The south south region are helpless and that is the pure fact.

you listed a whole lot of things and what is the effect of what isaac adaka boro or what happened to ken saro wiwa? all these men lived in dreams and when real decision were made, those things they fought were taken into obscurity.

how many years did the midwestern region last?

where is the niger delta republic?

You claim to be from south south but i bet you have not really been to the different local governments where oil is been drilled. these people constitute one of the poorest people in this country.

your south south is helpless because if you are powerful as you think and bring senseless history, 80percent of the oil wells will be owned by the people from the region and not from faraway north.

if you think that south south isnt helpless, your brotherly in Udi would not have been killed by obasanjo government.

the south south are helpless because with the northerners drinking your oil wells, no man in the south south have the license to mine gold in sokoto or in osun. but they have license to head the refineries in warri, ph. a northerner is also the md of shell nigeria.

so, you are powerless and helpless. they called your brother a drunkard.

they locked your freedom fighter, asari in an underground prison.

they killed your former freedom fighters.

yes you are powerless and helpless
Tonyebarcanista, this is the bitter truth...

The 13%, NDDC and Min of ND Affairs came through agitations. Though they aren't enough but they are peanut worth eating pending when we get hold of the chicken. Sadly, Ministers of ND, NDDC MDs and Chairpersons and all 6 Govs over the years have failed to make use of these for our development.

So who are the people agitating for the chicken from the federal government?

and let's be optimistic the people eventually got what they wish.
How will they face your ministers and chairperson in your region?

its not its illiteracy..

what the SS, get is tax paid to the government..

it they like let them give Oil License to Sheeps and Goats from Spain the SS would still get the 13%

same thing with North, they will get mining derivation paid from government tax regardless of who has the License to operate..

Chief Executive Officer of Seven Energy International Limited, Phillip Ihenacho, has disclosed that the company was targeting the development of the Anambra Basin for the supply of gas to industries in the eastern and parts of northern Nigeria. Ihenacho said in an interview in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, that Seven Energy was investing substantially on three blocks in the Basin with hope of supplying gas to power plants and local industries.

“In the 70’s a few wells were drilled in the Anambra basin and were subsequently abandoned. Then, the last thing you wanted to find was gas, so the wells were sealed and left. The Basin sits effectively underneath Onitsha, Nnewi, Aba and Owerri all the way up to Enugu which are all areas with substantial light industry, using diesel fuel.
“We have recently farmed into three blocks in the Basin and our plan is to invest in developing gas in that area in order to supply gas to these locations. This will take time, as there has not been that much sub-surface work done in the area to date.
“This is a long-term plan and we hope to use a combination of pipelines and compressed natural gas that can be delivered by road in the interim. We are exploring near-term ways of monetizing gas such as compressed natural gas and liquefied natural gas.
“There are CNG players in the market today. Lagos and Port Harcourt are being supplied already. This presents a big opportunity for Seven Energy to assist with the industrialization in these areas, but also to support power and industry further afield in large cities in the North such as Kaduna and Kano, which can be reached by road deliveries of CNG or LNG”.

Ihenacho explained that so far the company has invested over $800million in developing gas infrastructure in its area of operation between Port-Harcourt and Calabar and up to Aba.

“We have invested in pipeline infrastructure which, once we have completed the next phase, will mean we have a pipeline network of over 250 km and a processing plant that can process in excess of 200million standard cubic feet a day of gas. This is a substantial investment and by next year, we will have invested over 1 billion dollars.
“It is not easy to raise capital for infrastructure and the success of our business is essential for Nigeria to continue to attract further investment in the sector. Success will bring further capital.
“We have invested on the basis of long-term off-take agreements with Ibom Power, UNICEM – the Lafarge cement factory and Calabar NIPP and these agreements are 10-20 years in duration. Ideally these contracts are backed up by credit enhancement or guarantee, for example the World Bank is working with us on Calabar NIPP.
“These contracts give us a few anchor customers with which we have long-term off-take contracts. It is very similar to constructing a new building where you look for a few tenants who can take a few floors for a 10-year lease, and once these are in place, you have the confidence to build. Once the building is ready, you can then look for additional tenants.”

He said the country needs to “unlock money for the private sector and this can be facilitated by working with organizations like the World Bank and African Development Bank to enhance credit and provide some sort of guarantee to create credit worthy long-term contracts.”

I read a thread written by a member of this forum with username 'Sweetguy25' titled Reasons Why Yoruba And Hausa Are Happy Being Nigerians. In the thread, the writer, inspired by the figment of his own imagination gave some reasons why some ethnic groups are 'happy' being Nigerians. In the said write-up, the writer wrote some insulting remark on the Ijaws and other ethnic nationalities in the Niger-Delta. In the words of the writer, "the reasons why Ijaws and other minorities in the South South are “content being Nigerians” Ignorance and helplessness. .

The position of the writer on the Ijaws and other ethnic nationalities within the Niger Delta region is a statement cluelessness and ignorance to be fair with the author. May I remind the author that the ethnic minorities in present day Edo and Delta states are the first and only group of post-independent Nigeria that got their demand(Midwest) through referendum after years of civil agitation. Till date, no other group in Nigeria have got ANY of their demand through referendum. It is on record that an Ijaw youth named Major Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro was the first in the history of Nigeria to declare an independent republic in 1966, the Niger Delta Republic. It is on record that an Ogoni man named Mr Ken Saro Wiwa defied the military junta of Abacha to press for an end to environmental pollution in Ogoni land and the Niger Delta region. It is on record that Ijaw youths in the late 1998 defied the military government of Abdulsallam by declaring their bill of right in Kaiama, Bayelsa state. This was after the Ogonis have did theirs in 1991. In fact, virtually all ethnic nationalities in the south south including Ikwerre, Urhobo, Oron etc have their respective Bills of Right, all of which are before the United Nation Organisation, African Union, ECOWAS, Commonwealth, and the Federal Government of Nigeria. Though I don't support armed struggle, it is on record that the first post civil war group to carry arms against the Nigeria State are Niger Delta youths, when the demanded an end to marginalisation.

Considering all these, is it not in place to state that the author of that said article is misinformed? Can a helpless group declare sovereignty in the military era? Can a helpless group challenge Abacha? Can a helpless group pick up arms? Can an ignorant group maintain their advancement for fiscal autonomy? Were the Midwest(Edo and Delta) ignorant and helpless when they pushed and got demand for a separate region? Can ignorant and helpless group identify what they need from the system, document them and present them to local and global authorities? Why then should someone make himself to believe that Niger-Deltans are 'happy' being Nigerians due to ignorance and helplessness?

It is always proper for people to check records before uttering statement in public that portrays them as ill-informed and clueless.

I believe that no Nigerian is happy with the present state of the country irrespective of the position of the selfish and greedy elite. The ethnic nationalities in the south south shall continue to advance for fiscal autonomy within the Nigeria State by exploring every peaceful and legitimate option available. A time shall come when Nigeria State will be left with no option but to call for all ethnic groups to a round table in order to restructure the system for the good of all Nigerians.

May God Bless Us All and Bless Nigeria

Though you assertions are flawed, empty and shallow as usual, but lets just go with your bogus assertion just for the sake of argument.

When governments seeks investments, they don't sit around stipulating and hoping the investments comes from their own people. Procter&Gamble is the worlds largest consumer products manufacture, a fortune 500 company.

They have 3 new manufacturing plants in Lagos, Ogun and Oyo states all in the SW and the fact that this is a multinational doesn't alter the fact that they like others are major investments, source of taxes, jobs and better life and opportunities for Yoruba people.

These benefits stays in Yorubaland and definitely not going to SE or any other parts of Nigeria...

Not all the businesses in America are owned by America Nationals and they care less as long as they create jobs, pay taxes and abide by their laws..

It's just so sad and pathetic that many of you reason so absurdly, upside down and ignorantly...
