I dont think this op knows what living abroad as a graduate really entails. The truth of the matter is that most of these countries have structures in place that cannot be bypassed mostly if you haven't been educated in their country. You find out in most cases that graduates that do these jobs do them for just a while pending when certification exams can be passed in the host country thereby gaining access to study in a feild one claims to be proficient in. In short, any graduate that really knows his/her onions only does most of the listed jobs for a short while. What u dont know also is that a mortuarian for example in d US earns more than most graduate bankers in Nigeria so who really gives two hoots?

So the news about Nigerians working in mortuary is false? Does that mean people spreading this information are lying?

Anyway what about the other listed points brother?

Why make a fuss out of what people do for decent living? Citizens of the country they do these jobs also do the same jobs and they all live well as such, let them be.

This is just bad....when you consider the amount they spend to get visa and air ticket it will be used to open up a small business ....just that most of these diasporan dudes are pessimist ...how can somebody spend almost 400k to go to EU and end up selling or hawking sweets yet no papers now eatern Europeans have compounded their problems

With 400k you can open up a business in Nigeria and give yourself few years your employing people but most of these people won't hear that advise

I have been to UK, UAE and Asia and if you see how our people suffer there ...you will pity. Some will beg you not to let their peeps in Nigeria know their position. They will go to nice area snap with nice cars and post ..they hutsle like dead and envy us

The rush for greener pasture has becloud the vision of Nigeria Graduates to the extent that most believe nothing good can happen owing to the deplorable state of the country's economy.

As a result of negative economic situation, some have travelled to the overseas in search for good jobs but it's unfortunate that they eventually secure shameful occupation which they can't even wish for their enemy to do.

Therefore, 8 Annoying Jobs Nigeria Graduates Do In Order To Survive At Overseas Countries

1. Cleaner

It's so demoralising to see a PHD holder cleaning toilets, streets, floor of hotels, bars and offices. No matter how terrible Nigeria economy is, a graduate of such calibre cannot even think for once in picking such jobs in this county except if his/her village witches are at work.

2. Security guard

I have heard cases of professors in Nigeria University been employed as security guard in overseas countries because his quality of education and expertise cannot even match the skills an employer is looking for. What could be so agonising to see your celebrated professor as puppet in another country?

3. Washing dead bodies

It's rather an insult upon injury to see a Graduate of this country washing dead body in another man's land to make end meets. The most annoying thing they claim to be working as forensic officer but what happens when they contact a deadly disease during the occupation, of course prophet T.B joshua will be at their rescue.

4. Prostitution

I don't know why some ladies who are graduates has completely lost self esteem and integrity hereby resorting to prostitution career when they travel to overseas. This is a common act in countries like Italy and Brazil where they have sex with all sort of men, dog, horse and monkey in order to make money. I am sure that people must have heard the story of a female Nigeria celebrity who did this act. I pity the guy that will marry her.

5. House maid

I believe that the highest qualification to select a house maid suppose to be someone with O level certificate but the case is different in overseas countries where some Nigeria graduate make mockery of their selves to work as house help.

6. Refuse and Sewage packer

Honestly speaking I pity the life of refuse and sewage workers because they are marred with poor health condition which is as a result of the bad stench oozing from the waste. Let's be frank here, can a white man work as sewage worker in Nigeria? Abi no be the same brain God give us?

7. Drug smuggler

Smuggling cocaine, hemp, marijuana and other hard drugs is not a legitimate occupation and it can never be. Greed and desperation to become wealthy fast has ruin the destiny of so many Nigeria Graduates whereby some have rot in jail while others has received death penalty.

8. Undertaker

There is dignity in when a graduate of this country patiently build his/her career at expense of picking a job that will never add value to his resume. Imagine a graduate working as undertaker (lifting corpse in coffin) at overseas countries because of the money attached. Is that life?

You can also add yours

Before commenting on your post, i took the liberty to check out your profile.
It was telling. Not sure if you've actually lived abroad or if you visited for two weeks and came up with the shambolic list of yours.

Anyway,
1. Where did you generate this data about nigerian graduates doing these jobs You just woke up came up with an imaginary list, pasted it on nairaland and people are buying your crap.

2. Why is it annoying? Even if Nigerians graduates are doing these jobs (Your no 1 ) IS IT YOUR BUSINESS

3. With the fall of the naira, a cleaner who hustles well in New York will still earn way more than an average worker in Nigeria and still send money home. So your point is

You remind me of a sadist that makes fun of people trying to justify your lack of ambition..

OH AND BY THE WAY THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF NIGERIAN GRADUATES MAKING WAVES...cut your bs!!!\

It is disgusting to read through your list, because there are all wrong information .I have travelled far and wide, I haven't come across PHD Holders or Professors doing the kind of Job you mentioned although you made it clear that you heard of it not that you came across them doing it. Please don't write anything based on hearsay. I can authoritative say that places/ countries like Germany,Switzerland, Austria etc are places whereby specialist are allowed to handle dead bodies. Yes our girls are into prostitution in Europe but the ones that are prostituting are not educated. If you have good friends that are based in Italy or generally Europe you can ask them about this fact. I have a friend based in UK doing a security job (though not a graduate) and his wife is Msc holder in Accounting and my friend picks £3k while his wife pick less. He is having a spacious house in UK and a beautiful one in Nigeria. My Bro, you never see life. If you are comfortable that does not implies others are too. Nice day

@OP
Apart from drug dealing and prostition the others are far more better than any profession in Nigeria... For instance in my part of the world working as a cleaner gives you much money than someone who is even working in a taitiary institutions in Nigeria and places like banks and consultant companies too this am very sure of so tell me again why won't you work as a cleaner, security guard etc mehn fam you got to start from somewhere...

Their proportion is quite high.

It would be if you look at absolute figures but very different when the comparison is done using ratio/rate

Besides, it pays them to be on the dole than working them shifts

Don't we have the same jobs here? Why can't they do it?

What's the need of becoming a graduate if you want to use it for a cleaner or an undertaker...?
It's not as if they are being paid in millions, the cost of living is also high there, some of them have little or nothing to show after spending a lot years there...

You're saying the op mentality is bad when actually it is urs that is worst....

My friend sharap, ignorance is really Ur problem.
N by the way What is so special about bin a graduate? Gone are the days when ppl flaunt the fact that they are graduates cos every one now goes to school one way or the other including the só called " never do wells" .
I see absolutely nothing wrong in a graduate doing security Jobs even in Nigéria as long as the pay is good.
I wud rather work as a security man in shell ,Mobil,b&t n other 5 star companies to get well paid than be a Manager in a small firm with little benefits.
At the end of the day What really matters is paying Your bills n meeting up with Your responsibilities.

I pity u for displaying ur level of ignorance, d so caled people u mentioned are not complaining its u that is crying on their behalf.
I started my life in america as a cleaner despite d fact that am a gradute in nigeria but d person that took my there made me realised that that was d post that was vacant then.
As i cleaner i earn $12 per hour which translate to over 5million naira in a year aside frm my overtime.
Within 2years i was able to build a house wat 6million naira in nigeria.
People like u always remain poor bcus u beliv u are a big guy that cant do just any job.

Shut up there liar! 95% of Nigerians in America never see 6million naira cash in their life, and that includes those who have stayed there for 25 years. talk true, na check and tax yahoo yahoo you take make that money. 62% of Americans (first and white citizens)don't even have 1000dollars in emergency savings yet you come here to talk rubbish. Even Registered Nurse that most Nigerians go into are not rich, it will take them 15yrs to even come up with a down payment for a decent home. You must think everybody in NL are fools

Hmmm..good thing is nobody forces anyone to work. I don't see why anyone should be 'annoyed' with what puts food on the table. There's dignity in labour, however 'condescending' we consider them. Better than those who rob, kill, abduct for ransom or rituals.
