H2O2:

then perhaps you can bring me to understand how a sky marshal would have prevented Farouk Abdul Mutallab's successful boarding and  failed explosive-detonation.

Air marshalls may not have been deployed at boarding gates to prevent the Nigerian underwear bomber from joining passengers on that flight, but were one present on that flight, I have no doubts that the perpetrator would have been shot dead instantly, and the passengers would have gratefully applauded the timely pest extermination.

And given the tight structure of aircrafts, suffice to say it's impossible to oversee every nook and cranny to fish out suspects who simply have to press down on a syringe to initiate their "incendiary" equipments.  grin  grin.

Let's be candid in tackling the problem from its root,
While the U.S. is focused on exposing and publicizing its own security loopholes, terrorists are busy at work devising means to exploit those weaknesses and others they haven't caught on to.

It gives U.S. citizens a feeling of safety while the actual problem remains at large

One moment, Nigeria is giving ultimatums to the US and the very next, we're a$$-licking 'em.
Nigeria, a country with a leadership of misplaced priorities.

Don't tell me you expected your government officials to stand firmly by their ultimatum.
What strength do they have to imbue fear in the U.S.? pssh lol grin

I'd rather have a sharp-shooting lawman around and not need one, than find myself hopelessly trapped in a metal cylinder with no sky marshall present, and at the mercy of a demented and sexually frustrated terrorist who wants to kill me so he can go get laid in heaven with 72 virgins.

LMFAO grin grin I'm wish you sha.

And if they fail to detect or stop the madness we're only coughing up a couple more carcasses to the terrorists.

When a country is rudderless and leaderless, this is what happens. Nigeria has had years of warning from the US and the international community about the growing threat of Islamic extremists within the country. But Nigeria's ingrained culture of ambivalence and neglect has allowed a rot to grow to this extent.

However, the regrettable action in this episode is to announce the agreement publicly. Both the US and Nigeria may come to regret it because the US may have unwittingly painted a bull's eye on Nigeria. Any overt exercise of US law in Nigeria is recruitment propaganda for Al-Qaeda in the Islamic north. The temptation for Al-Qaeda to thumb its nose at the US over Nigeria will be too much.

Nigeria, today, is fast reaching its nadir in international relevance and reverence. It's a shame because in its younger years, the country had so much promise. These days, it's anybody's turn to pee on Nigeria.

I am beginning to adjust to the idea that this may indeed be the beginning of the end of Nigeria.

-----------------------
Emotions aside, the US cannot legally put US air marshals on a foreign aircraft while the aircraft is outside US jurisdiction. The US can, however, put armed marshals on US carriers outside US airspace provided they have the consent of the host country.

But putting US marshals on Nigerian airliners in Nigeria on flights en route to the US is an extrajudicial development. Any lawyer in Nigeria can challenge the jurisdiction of US law enforcement within Nigeria since Nigeria’s constitution does not recognize American jurisprudence.

My guess is that the air marshals will be deployed on US carriers only. I am also inclined to believe that the US landing permit given to Arik (or was it Virgin Nigeria?) will be put on hold until the US has trained enough Nigerian air marshals to fly on Nigerian carriers en route to the US.

wow. these Nigerian politicians alway keep proving how much they are empty headed. They are probably just allowing this because they think it will get them off the terror watch list.

Colonization is gradually returning. I guess we need it anyway judging by what our leaders are doing.
Re: Nigeria To Allow Armed U.s. Air Marshals On Flights by otukpo(f): 1:32pm On Jan 14, 2010
My fear is that the air marshals may not be able to even stop a smart terrorist from detonating an already prepared explosive. If they can effectively prevent any act of terrorism on board, well and good. Afterall, its for the safety of all, both US and non-US passengers.

Any action they intend to take to forestall any terrorist attack on planes,is good step in the right direction. If only you have been on a plane that wanted to crash and later God intervened and saved you people. You will realize how helpless and mind boggling it can be.Even atheists, native doctors and the rest unbelievers realize how close everyone is close to death and then they start beckoning on Jesus to save them.

Dudes, wouldn't u feel safer on a flight knowing an armed US Marshal was on board than a Nigerian Officer (accidental discharge) cool.
Re: Nigeria To Allow Armed U.s. Air Marshals On Flights by emmaf5542(m): 2:06pm On Jan 14, 2010
I am sorry to sound a bit rude, but dont you guys follow the news. AIR MARSHALLS WILL BE ON EVERY FLIGHT coming into the US whether from the UK or Nigeria or Canada or Iraq.

Every country has the right to take steps to protect its citizens.

I will suggest that those of us who still have family members in Nigeria should start sending money home to our relatives to build underground bunkers. Al Qaeda will definitely retaliate to teach the Nigerian Government and the USA a lesson. This was a move in the wrong direction.

By aligning with the USA , our fncked up government and douchebag SSS officials have just endangered the lives of 150 million people all in the name of a$$ kissing. We could barely contain Boko-Haram , I wonder how Nigeria will survive if Al Qaeda operatives start bombing Nigeria and when the USA “invades” in the name of Homeland security. Those who are scared to fight now will be picking up used Ak-47s for just $200 a piece.

Everyday we seem to be moving from frying pan to fire.
Re: Nigeria To Allow Armed U.s. Air Marshals On Flights by otawa: 2:23pm On Jan 14, 2010
I am not suprised.

AFRICOM is the end game of USA.

The possibility of big BANG in Nigeria is very high now.

This would even fast-forward the AFRICOM but as always USA will have to plan it carefully.

This is a very good idea.  Anyone who gets violent on board an aircraft or tries to light an incendiary or explosive device will need to be neutralized quickly and precisely with a well-aimed volley of shots.   The marshalls must of course load up with those ceramic rounds that will kill a human, but shatter against the fuselage, rather than puncture the aircraft skin.

Indeed, if you air-marshal missed and shot hit the fuselage. Good Luck to your plane!

how pathetic sad

first they summoned the dad , now this,
i bet you, the next will be the handing over of the keys of ASO rock shocked to the americans, all in the name of terrorist preventive measures.

Bad suggestion. Cuz they would simply be looking for opportunities to extort bribe from the passengers. I hope some of them would be posted in the first class cabin

Let the cycle of bribery continue. Amen

Funny, but your govt has been arranging to bring in both Africom and the Isreali's. The US is not the one pressing to introduce Africom, Yar Adua was practically begging both Africom and the Isreali's to come into the country were they would have been used against innocent folk. This is open news (but we 9ja's hate reading  grin). All that BS about opposing Africom was cover up, Yar Adua went to Washington, signed up with Africom and sold our sovereignty.
Africom has been patrolling Nigerian waters for going to two years now (it is not known if they are even on land as well in the ND) http://africanpress./2008/01/20/nigeria-africom-ship-heads-for-gulf-of-guinea/

they are taking this too far

what next - us marines escorting their nationals on nigerian soil?

keep your air marshals and keep out, thank you very much

do we have us marshals on british flights?

the fact of the matter is that even if a us marshal had benn on delta airlines, it would not have made much difference. they were saved by the fact that farouks contraption misfired.

are these marshals supposed to be on local or international flights?
