I don't think Arik ll allow u to fly even with ur fit to fly. It ll b better if u can call them here in Nigeria. I flew at 24wks n I was still scrutinized.

@twizzie, don't bother to use Arik! They won't allow you fly wit them, it happened to me last month, I took a fit to flight and called them but on getting to d airport, it was anoda story! I had to fly delta.

For the people asking about airline travel restrictions for preggers, it is always advisable to travel latest by 34weeks. That's sound medical advise o. Some doctors will even insist that they won't certify you as fit to fly after that. So why do you want to push yourself to the medical limits and endanger your life and that of the baby? I flew BA at 34+2 and they were already frowning. I was still within their limit so they couldn't turn me back. They only took my letter upstairs for their manager to approve while I waited at the counter. The truth is that from 34weeks, anything can happen! So if you are flying after that, pls note that the risk is all on you. You can't eat your cake and have it you know, having a baby in the US will cost you more than money. Its a sacrifice of time too.

I will advise that you book your ticket for 34 weeks max. Get to the US in good time, continue your antenatal care and wait for you baby to come. So that you won't be stranded, let you return date be at least 6weeks after EDD so you would have done your 6-week postnatal doctor's appointment, baby's documents all set & mummy relatively recovered.

Also, wen buying your ticket, dont just buy the cheapest ticket you can find. Consider everyth - flight time, connection, infant provisions (bassinet, baggage allowance, infant fare) and make an intelligent choice of airline. You are in a delicate state at departure (pregnancy) and arrival (travelling with an infant) so don't stress/stretch yourself more than you can tolerate physically & emotionally. If you have to pay a little extra in ticket price for some additional airline comfort then it is worth it. You can afford to pay thousands of dollars in US so don't neglect your own personal journey because you are trying to "cut costs".
Pennywise is sometimes equal to pound-foolish.

Read the airline travel restrictions carefully. They mean what they say on their websites. If the policy is 34 weeks and you are 34+1, don't bother. Move to another airline that accomodates your pregnancy date. If you think you can lie & do "gbologbo" fitness to fly, you will be shocked that they will whip out a tape and measure your fundal height. Dat one no dey lie. You are already payong so much, don't let anyone embarass you at the airport pls. Respect yasef and fly wisely.

Finally, pls note that direct flights are best avoided when preggy. You will be more comfortable since its a direct flight, as in, no connection but they will be uncomfortable with you @ POE because the flight is coming staright from naija and has automatically aroused CBP suspicion, they know there will surely be preggers on dat flight.

Just my little token of advise.
Cheers

MiddyO: @Nefertitiram

I am so sorry for your loss and pray the Almighty will strengthen you and restore all you have lost in Jesus name. 3 weeks ago I lost my pregnancy at almost 6 months (due to hospital negligence) and I can sincerely say that I understand what you are going through. Baba God knows best and we will come back to testify in Jesus name. I wish all expectant mothers a safe delivery and safe journey. Can"t wait to put up my own POE and baby testimony here soonest! smiley

This country shaaaa, 6 months! 7 months, these babies r a piece of cake for most US hospitals. I just found out that my babies were born alive. Then the hosp says they weren't breathing so well, like seriously? I believe the hosp did not make enough efforts, but I won't regret. I heard NICU stay in a specialist hosp is about 25k to 35k per day per child, and they will spend a minimum of 1 month in incubator.
God must have seen my pocket and decided to avert this suffering from my family.
My joy is that my husband and I able to mourn together and rise out of the embers like the Phoenix (hehehe, I was on my way to MIHS in Phoenix, bags packed, checked in online when the trauma began) but the Phoenix is indestructible and always rises from the ashes.
I seem to have even moved on faster than hubby, perhaps because he had to be the one to bury them at the cemetery, and they were his carbon copies, and even in death, the had the expression he has on his face when he is fast asleep.
What doesn't kill you makes you a stronger person, and you can only get strength when you draw inspiration from the Most High.
His thoughts towards us are thoughts of good and not of evil, to give you an expected end. He also promised he won't give us troubles more than we can bear, even in that, he will give us a means of escape.
God knows having sick children would have broken me more than having dead children. I can always start again, and I am a live to tell the tale. I saw my life passing, after losing 4 pints of blood in 2 hours. I have never seen doctors panic so in my life because the bleeding seemed unending.
That cesarean section saved my life, the babies died for their mother to live again, and they have become saints in heaven for paying the ultimate sacrifice.
Please say a special prayer for Eathan and Nathan for there were special, they fulfilled what their purpose on earth. They never knew pain and they will never grow old.
Tears won't bring them back, 10 more children may never replace them, but the flame of their memory will keep burning in my heart.
Thank you all for all your messages, they are very comforting

My POE is also Chicago o. flying BA. I asked this same question but nobody seemed to have an answer. But my friend who lives in Chicago said they ain't that strict because they ain't used to Nigerians, coz most flights coming from naija hardly go there. but its a very busy airport sha.

@Nerf, you really are a strong woman. loosing a child no matter the age in never easy. I thank God you are alive , coz when there's life, then we have hope. God be with you and your hubby.

I shed tears as I read your story. I thank God for your life and your strength. I pray that He will continue to lift you up and that the Holy Spirit will comfort your husband like no one can.
The same thing happened to my friend 3 weeks ago, she was 29weeks gone and was leaving for Houston two days before she started bleeding and was rushed to the hospital. She had an emergency CS and her baby was born alive, the same story of not breathing well was told to her and the baby died less than 20mins later. She also had to fight for her life cos of the blood she lost. We thank God for her life sha.
I weep this morning for you and your family, for my friend, for countless other mothers who have lost their children and their lives due to our under developed health care system.
For those of us who go through pregnancy and deliver safely, let us not take it for granted in any way. It is truly by God's mercy.
For those of us who have enough funds to even go abroad, it is a privilege and we should continue to thank God for putting us in the position to afford such.
I pray that none of us will know this kind of loss again. As we have come together from all works of life to share experiences and encourage each other, so will God continue to hear our prayers and have mercy on us.
Sorry for the long post, my heart is just heavy this morning.

Hi malory, Chicago is a stress free POE.

And d story begins.........
We arrived Dubai and ate then went to check in. At Check in d lady asked me if I m pregnant I told her yes, she asked for my fit to fly, I gave her photocopy na so d lady begin check d stamp to see whether d name on d stamp is same with d name of hospital. So I asked her if she needed original she said yes, I gave her and she confirmed d stamp and we went inside d plane. D head of crew came to me and took d fit to fly too and after like 5 mins came back with it that everything is fine and that was where d pampering began. I drank up to 30 bottles of water na so toilet become my best friend.... lol‎

We arrived Chicago 30mins b4 d estimated arrival time but like 8 flights arrived together so d immigration queue was longer than d word itself. It finally got to our turn. D CBP officer asked how long we wud be stayin I told him hubby 8weeks while mumsi and I wud stay 12weeks. He asked why 12weeks, I said cos we r here to av our baby. d guy typed somethings on the system and called one other guy that they needed to verify some info‎

They took us for secondary inspection and told us to wait (d 3 of us). After 30mins I saw our 3 passports with one of d guys. He opened my own first. He started reading my interview transcript. Read it over and over again and dropped my passport without stampin. He checked my hubby's own and stamped immediately. He checked my mum's own and stamped immediately as well. He carried my own again and started reading d interview transcript again. He read and read. But I just kept smiling. My mum was just sayin favour... favour.... favour..... lol. I told her d guy has no choice but to stamp me in, she say amen. D guy now took hubby's pp, and went tru hubby's interview transcript and I guess he saw hubby's purpose of applying and also saw my name as wife. He then checked d name on my visa and my passport, it was different cos I changed my surname. He now checked hubby's pp again and nodded then stamped me in. On our way out, d other custom pple asked if we had bush meat, palm oil etc we said no and they said bye. Our bags were not checked.

I noticed that no one at d secondary inspection room was questioned. They just go to ur interview transcript and that's it.

But pls note: I got my visa while I was still single and purpose was for vacation but I never used it until now. I informed d embassy by sending a mail informin them of my plan. My hubby's purpose of applying was that he wants to go witness the birth of his child.

Weldone bloggerina, you delivered a well written and informative piece. Just a little information for pregnant mamas who are bothered with the long layovers when they use Heathrow,BA or Schipol,KLM. On arrival at these airports you can check in to Yotel to sleep, bath and feel refreshed before boarding the next flight to the US. Yotel is a unique hotel idea built for long trip travelers and they charge per hour. 6 hours currently goes for 61pounds at Heathrow. You can set alarm not to oversleep or tell the front desk to wake you up at a specific time(Make una no sleep forget flight). I know we are all working on tight budgets but your comfort and that of your child should take the first priority. One love

Hello Everyone, I trust you all are having a great day.

I am really sorry nefertitiram for your loss. May God wipe away your tears and that of your husband and give you both the grace to bear this loss. Amen.

Please house your assistance is urgently required. I am presently pregnant and I intend renewing my US (B1/B2) visa via dropbox so that I can give birth in the US. My visa will be expiring at the end of January 2015 and I intended travelling by the beginning of January and staying till end of March. I want to know what to write as the reason for travelling. A lot of people have suggested that I write "going on vacation" since I might not be called for an interview but following this topic on nairaland has enlightened me on the dangers of that. Please what do you suggest I write as the reason for travelling. Can writing travelling for Childbirth while applying for a B1/B2 visa deprive me from getting the visa?

Thanks guys.

Read the lines again , I said "track" not "book", those verbs have different meaning in the English language. Besides, There are 1.1million ways of booking tickets. Cheers.
I understand you are a professor of English language. Your suggestion will only waste her time and make her spend more on the fare. Agencies always have cheap fare compared to the airline . Now after spending weeks tracking the price on the websites you listed , she visits the airline website and sees the price is more expensive . What would you have her do then. If you've been following my post, you will see I always post the airlines and there current prices so members can book themselves.
@ Malory please what response did you get from the embassy when you wrote to inform them of using your Visa for a different purpose?

I sent to Abuja embassy n it went like this:

Dear Mrs.........

Thank you for your inquiry. Before you travel to the United States to have a child you should make the appropriate preparations, including an appointment with a healthcare provider, detailed information about where you will receive your medical services, and an estimate of the financial costs. Immigration officials may ask for this information upon your arrival.  Healthcare in the United States is expensive, including costs associated with child birth, and can escalate quickly if there are complications. You are expected to pay all costs associated with the medical services received.  Retain an itemized statement of account from your healthcare provider that outlines all of the charges from your care and receipt of your payment.

We hope this information is helpful to you. Congratulations to you and your family.

Best Regards,

You can tell them you had not made proper arrangements with doctors and hospitals, so you were not really sure , and because you also didn't state childbirth in ur form, so you didn't want to complicate issues. and you had also heard from alot of people how they reject preggy women. or u can as well just tell them the truth that u were scared do u lied! The gurus in d house can give u more advice.
