Hey, lets not forget about the little guy, cheesy I found this little insect dug out from the ground and looking like a leaf, it was moving so I took interest to see how a leaf of about half inch will be moving and I found this little beetle. I will turn it around in the next picture, amazing!

This is what I will refer to as attention to details!

Just curious, were you testing the soil topography when
you found the leaf insect

I forgot to mention the driver who brought us iron rods and his truck sank into the mud, his charge is N5000.00 and I didn't mention it in my cost updates. that total will now be N93,060 + N5,000.00 = N98,060

Add this to the previous N196,100 and the new total spent on this house will be N294,160.00

gtrust:

The wastage it prevents as mortar will not be lost inside the hollows.

I thought the 'hollow' was meant to be filled with mortar to increase binding and strength
and also to prevent someone breaking into your house with a sledge hammer when the door
is looked! (and there wouldn't be a space for snake etc to hide if done properly)
I might be wrong!

Great Job!
Love your dedication and honesty. wink

Hollow blocks can be filled with mortar or preferably weak concrete depending on the circumstances involve.
You observe that when filling a building that has its DPC level high, there is this tendency for the fill to exert pressure on the wall.
But if the hollow is filled before the filling, the block will have enough strenght to withstand the pressure of the fill.
This is more pronounced if the fill contains a high degree of moisture.
But this can equally be taken care of by supporting the wall on the outside with a counter fill to stable the wall before chaining at DPC level.

@spyder, thank you for a job well done so far.
Because I will be following this your thread assidiously,
I will equally be asking a lot of questions.
Firstly,
when you say excavation per partition what do you mean because to me its like excavating for a raft foundation.
If so what is the area and depth involved.
just enlighten me more.

A partition around here is 12 foot length, the depth of this foundation is 2 foot 6 inches and the width is 2 ft 6'' as well.

We poured 16 bags of cement to complete this blinding and stand some of the pillars.
Payment for labour for pouring concrete = N400 X 16 =N6400.00
payment for labour for basket sinking and standing N200 X 22 =N4400
Payment for 2 masons to range concrete blinding N2000 x 2 = N4000.00
water fetchers from well, N250.00
20 bags of Ibeto cement = N1780 x 20 =N35,600.00 (Unicem and dangote sells for N1650 but my client prefers Ibeto for its quality)

Total spent today is N50,650.00, bringing the cumulative total to N344,810.00

We got a supply of one trip of gravel today but it has not been paid for.

We are going to complete the standing of these pillars tomorrow and possibly form the foundation blocks, maybe we shall be through with the foundation and come up to the land before Friday this week, that's my plan.

Due to the over stony nature of this land, the thickness of this blinding is 4'', however column bases are blinded 6'' below and casted round 9'' up, we do this by placing blocks round it before we pour concrete, just to make sure the footing is solid.

Yes labour of this building is cheap, this is the Spyder team on duty, they are doing this for the Spyder company as they are not charging me as high as other workers, I have promised to compensate them by keeping them employed all year round, shifting them from site to site as the need arises.
