The population of Muslims in Ghana is 19% compared to about 53% of Muslims in Nigeria. Compare the ratio.
I am not talking of the general population just yet.

Right. Is 53% now 100%? Why is halal meat pushed on the majority of people in Nigeria?

Nigeria's Muslim population only increased.to 53% recently
Re: Why Is Pig Farming Not Fully Explored In Nigeria? by PrinceMajestic: 10:14pm On Dec 07, 2022
Some religious Terrorists say Jesus cast demons into pigs and others say pig offended their prophet and they make up 99% of Nigeria population so you see that majority of Nigerians have personal problem with pig how then can its business flourish? They just causing problems for Agriculturists in this country, It's flourishing in Southern Nigeria anyway

And who is pushing halal on you majority of Nigerians? Has any Muslim ever told or tried to compel you not to eat pork before.

Or you have ever been stopped from buying at a market. Stop saying things like this Abeg.

Nigerian Muslim population did not rise to 53% recently.

How many markets in Nigeria have you been to? How many Nigerians do you that don't eat bacon or sausages or hot dogs?
brain54:

You pls go to an open market in Nigeria and tell them you want to buy bacon, hotdogs or sausage. I just hope they won’t give you the sausages made from baking flour.

Come back and give me your report after. Then we can talk.

Why is pig rearing not common in Nigeria?
Is it that there are little to no demands for pork meat?

Who says pig farming or rearing is not common in Nigeria? Google the largest pig farm in Africa before you come and speak. Better still, ask questions.

Pigs are among the cleanest animals if they eat or urinate somewhere they won't eat there unlike goats

Just because you have one or two very large pig farms don’t make pig farming common.

What is COMMON? Is turkey or goat farming common? We are still importing chicken, turkey fish
Even Cow farming we have not mastered
Truth is we have a serious knowledge deficit
Industrial level animal farming need industrial production of Maize and Soya to feed the animals

US produces 11 Metric tonnes of Maize from 1 hectare of land compared to 1.5 in Nigeria

Even cassava which we are the highest producer in the world we produce 10metric tonnes per hectare compared to 22 for Thailand

We love foreign Chicken, Fish and Turkey more

Fulani cattles from far away Muritiania always taste better to Nigeria

Rams from Chad, Senegal and Niger are the best for Nigerians

Okporoko, stock fish from Norway and Finland taste better than our own catfish as Nigeria

Canned Sardine, Canned sweet corn and beef from America is sweeter in our mouth

.

Islam prohibits the consumption of pig. Even most Christians are not conformable consuming pork. So I don't see any logical link between the country's preference for foreign goods and the disinterest in pig farm.

sad

Because it is haram (forbidden) in Islam so Muslims won't come near it.

Most Christians are also not confortable consuming it as it is considered unclean.

It is not true that there is a disinterest
In southern Nigeria there is even more interest in pig farming than cattle rearing

. You really do not know what you are talking about.

Nigerians eat ANYTHING

Pig farming requires knowledge and Capital just like with poultry. To do it right requires a lot of money. The market is there and growing

Just like with cattle farming. We can see the conflict of herdsmen because they refuse to take responsibility for growing what their animals eat
It is big in Benue , Plateau and Taraba

Not like Islam is the only religion, we have traditionalist and Christians who do take hotdogs, sussages and bacon made from pork but shipped from abroad

It's not peculiar to piggery alone. There are many units/sections of agriculture that could have been invested in and create employment for millions of Nigerians and also generate revenue for the government and citizens.

Sadly, they don't care because they can't make the type of money they embezzle within 4 years from agriculture. So, everyone can't sacrifice his belly for the citizens that elected them.
Oga the biggest farms in the world are owned by private businesses not government.
We do not need government in establish pig farms, it's up to you and me.

Because some mofos up North are calling pork haram and gradually killing off the consumers of the meat. Plus the fact that the farmers too are not farming with best practices.

I feel it is due to the fact that a section of the population does not eat it. Thereby cutting down d market size when compared to other animal husbandry.
Secondly, it takes a whole lot of input and effort due to how d environment can be stinking.

The few people that are into it are really cashing out!!!

I don't think it's because a section of the country don't eat it.
After all, alcohol sales generates billions of naira every year even though a section of the country and a lot of Christians down south don't also accept it.
It is actually capital intensive and requires a lot of time and effort to maintain.
Returns do not also come back immediately, so it requires some investment patience (which a lot of people may not have).
It requires a lot of skill and knowledge to start and to sustain if you are going to be successful in it.
It generates a lot of stench (though this is not major because even fish farming generates a lot of stench too).

The good news is that the few people into it are making a whole lot of money, some are not even able to meet up with customers orders.
