What are they still waiting for? They should forget Shekau and co. Let them concentrate on their sponsorers. I mean those oil well owners, whose licence will expire btw 2016 and 2018, hence they see 2015 as their last hope to return a northerner that will renew it for them.

gbadexy: I am not against neutralizing menace to society, but the collateral damage of those drone attacks are high, and the highest they would do is to offer apology.
They can conduct covert operation to remove such threats, besides would the drones be flying straight from america? They would need a military base here.
I like the appeal made by Nigeria embassy to consider innocent lives, because they will bring the drones if they want irrespective of what our government says. They attacked and killed osama inside pakistan by breaching their sovereign integrity and they have been doing so in even countries like yemen without permission from their government.
However, I doubt if they can attack a suspect overtly in china or russia without permission.
All in all, america's involvement would make a difference in the war against the extremists in nigeria, but they should sha avoid innocent casualty.

and who told you so? A drone is a remotely controlled unmanned fighter jet, it can take off anywhere, go do its runs and return to base.

mu2sa2: Anyone calling for drone strikes? Pray that you or your mother, father, daughter, son or other relatives do not become the first collateral damage in a strike by pilotless planes that are controlled electronically from USA, while they do the mindless bombings 000s of miles away. In any case, only a fool will think that Boko haram will disappear even if the three named persons are killed or captured.

Here goes a bloody BH sympathizer, may the DRONES locate you and your ilk. Nonsense.

Nigerans! Nigerians!! Nigerians!!! You truely want American drones in Nigeria and yet you're asking question if its activities will be limited to the North. What made you ask such question? It means the evil you do not wish for yourself is what you're wishing for your innocent fellow Nigerians. Can drones actually solve the problem? No! Because it has never solved any problem anywhere in the world. Even Osama bin Laden wasn't killed by drones but through covert operation. Nigerian embassy in US knew what is at stake and that was why they wrote the US govt about the inevitable. But very soon, everybody will be tired of drones including Igbos whose illustrous sons and daughters living in the North will be part of collateral damages. Just a matter of time.

The fighter jets have flight range, they burn large amount of fuel to gain high speed. Besides, their fighter jets take off close to location of attack either from a base or carriers.

the northern Nigeria never experienced war and mass killings before. What they did during the biafran war against the ibos and west God is about to repay them. They are like the biblical egyptians who pursued after israel and eventually drowned in the red sea.Their red sea is the American drones.since the UN bombing America had waited patiently for when to strike and the foolish boko harams played to their gallery. The aftermath of this declaration will help Nigeria a great deal to deal with this menace of terrorism with great consequences.Who cares if the north is cut off from our map.Their leaders who are their sponsors will regret ever fighting a man who depends on God and asked us to pray against bombings which he said has come to stay with us.God has answered his prayers.God has seen and heard the cries of innocent souls destroyed by this agents of death who claim they are doing the work of God.God will fight for His people and now shall we know who is serving the true God.

Its obvious that we are still saves to our own leaders in this country.some of us are shouting United Nigeria, United Nigeria to some blood thirsty PDP, President clueless idioots Goodluck led Administration when what we need in this country is nothing but a radical change. Innocent citizen have been killed in the hands of clueless government who do not know what to do to salvage and tacke its security challenges and more innocent people will die. Whether the United States of America bring their drones or they dont. People are dying on a regular basis and the politicians are busy looting the cofers of this economy dried. Whether U.S come or dont we are still slave to our leaders. We have no say to this so called democracy and our leaders do not care about the welfare of its citizens. The countries that you mention, Germany, Russia and china all have the interest of their citizens, economy at heart and they are run by real government who takes responsibility for the security and future of their citizens. Last thing Nigeria politicians care about is security and peaceful coexistence of its citizen. They dont give a damn about the lives been wasted everyday as long as they could keep looting the national account dry.

PLEASE LET THE U.S COME AND DO THE MUCH NEEDED REVOLUTION FOR US. NIGERIANS CANNOT COME TOGETHER WITH ONE VOICE AS THE EGYPTIANS AND FIGHT FOR THEMSELVES AND RESQUE THEMSELVES FROM THE HANDS OF SELFISH POLITICIANS.

When there are several people on Nairaland with little to no knowledge of how the UAV works or its history of inaccuracies, then you know where in even deeper whole than one might have thought heretofore.

We don't want a drone in Nigeria, it would work just the same way it's working now in Kandahar, Swat Valley and Yemen. That is, killing several thousands of citizens with few terrorist juggernauts but no arrest for proper intelligence gathering that could actually make an impact.

President Bush minimized the use of drones because he knew it would mostly shed the blood of the innocents, the emphasis of his National Security cabinet was focused on arresting the Warlords, that was how he captured KSM, Mehsud, Massaoui, Bin Laden's driver and countless others.

Although Obama condemned Bush for using unmanned drones "for summary killings" and called the Guantanamo Bay operations "unpatriotic and embarrassing to American values" at the time.

Today, Obama has quadruple the use of drones for straight assassination of suspected terrorists, he even ordered the assassination of an American citizens, Anwar Al Awlaki and another man from Alabama with AQAP in Somalia whom I've forgotten his name, an event unprecendented, even unconstitutional, in American history. Guantanamo Bay is still opened. Renditions still on the table at the Pentagon. According to the latest book by New York Times' David Sanger, Obama now keeps a "kill list" in which he just point and kill alleged terrorists even though their capture could have helped more in efforts to root them out.

So Bush waterboarding high valued terrorists like KSM is "unpatriotic, embarrassing". But Obama actually ordering their assassination, alongside their family member or anyone that might be close by when they strike, without trial is honky dory. Yeah! Right!

My point: in as much as there's no denial in the magnitude of both immediate and perpetual threat Boko Haram posses against our Republic, I must note that allowing the US drones on our skies would disintegrate the country. Some people want it disintegrated anyway, but shouldn't we tread carefully to avoid Civil War?

Do we need help from a sophisticated military power like the United States? Absolutely. But counter terrorism nerds and cutting edge weapons are all that is needed right now. Not a drone. No.

In 2009, bowing to political correctness, Obama ordered the State and Defence Departments never to use such terms as "Jihad", "Islamic fundamentalist" or "Jihadists" and they've since tailored their response to terrorism towards that goal. That's why despite all calls from the Hill from senators like Scott Brown and John Kerry to list Boko Haram as a terror group, the Obama administration has continued to obfuscate all chances of achieving this. Other than a belated listing of 3 of its members as terrorists which is tantamount to throwing a bone to the dog. What a pity.

If we need help at being ruthless against Boko Haram, methinks we should contact Russia for support. The Russians will render expedient help while obscuring media scrutiny and diversions. US, UK and the entire West no longer fight a war, they're saddled with political correctness and mainstream media eye popping headlines.

Let all of us in Lagos and others across the land just continue to speak out passionately thus the NASS and those surrounding the POTFRON can find their bearing ASAP, because looking at Mr. Jonathan's predictable, and often risible, response to every attack, it's ostensible that the man, himself, is beyond help.

Didn't America predict we would split by 2015? Did anyone doubt it then? Is anyone in doubt still? Drones in the North will simply mean Southerners will find their ways out within 24 months. We will cut of economic ties as the north's social value will be at -20% then. The North will dry up and be like Afghanistan and thereby lose the power of negotiation to remain in Nigeria. Southern Nigeria will be one. Ibos and Yorubas run Lagos already. They won't split. The first drone is the first physical manifestation of our split. Congrats to those who waiting!

By the way, that letter is as responsible as a government can get. It endorses tacitly America's action and an admittance that we cannot handle Boko Haram. But America definitely can handle their fathers.
