Bros relax...You can't do that here in Naija cos Nigerian banks dont issue such.Just ask someone you know in the US to help you issue a cheque to them with the details properly inputted on the cheque just as the school instructed. If you do online banking, transfer the equivalent amount of the expenses which the person you are sending has accrued...but you can do this after the person has helped you send the cheque o.

This is nice though , newBbies don't drop info here anymore , unless some forming caucus .

Anyway we shall continue to do our best .

@obsculyfe

I think there is an international money order at post office but not all post offices . So why don't you apply for a prepaid credit bank at banks and give your school the info to charge it for $25 , it is a lot easy coz the international money is kinda no more in service here in Nigeria .

Hope this help

Hello house,
I was denied F1 visa last month.
The interview was so short, the VO was typing MOST of the time. He rarely looked at me.
I was asked just 4 questions-
1)Why Public Health?
Me- I have a passion to serve people, and improve the quality of health for those around me, rising need for public health specialists in Nigeria, etc
2)Who is sponsoring you?
Me- My Dad
3)What does he do?
Me- An engineer
4)What work do you do?
Me- A dentist
I answered fully. No documents were asked. After a long period of typing, he just said, Sorry....and that was all.
I was denied last year also. Same course, though a different school. So this year, I applied to a less expensive, but equally good school.
I have re-applied and will be going soon.
A few questions-
--Im trying to fill a new DS 160, but there is really nothing to change. I filled to first one as carefully, and truthfully as I could.I do not know how else that form could be filled.
--Do I need to snap a fresh passport? I still have copies of the passport I submitted last month.
--How about wearing a good sweater this time around. I felt too cold the other time.
--The 'remarks' section on my I20 says 'all funding subject to Consular Verification' Abeg apart from bank statements, what other 'verification' would they need?
--What else can I do, guys?
Hope to hear from you all!

Hey dear..sorry about the denials.

First, I hope no one filed for an immigrant visa for you and I hope you ain't a current winner in the visa lottery stuff.

Just fill out your ds 160 form as carefully and truthfully as possible but make sure all cogent and sensitive data remain as consistent as possible. Do not alter very sensitive data...make sure they are the same with the formerly filled ds 160 forms. How did your first interview go? What were the questions asked of you?

If your passport aint more than 6 months old, then you dont have any need for another.Just hold at least 2 of them.
Try ask your dad to get a bank letter of introduction that states that he is the owner of the account.
Ask your dad to get a letter of employment from his company too(might not be necessary but may be useful in beating all odds).
Make sure the funds in the account well exceeds the amount on the I-20.

You can put on anything that is decent and makes you comfortable.

Please state the documents you have ready, your graduation year, your present occupation and so on and let us make sure you are well groomed for the next interview.

@Julie 55

Since you said you applied last year and was also denied and during your recent interview the Vo kept on typing on the system. I believe there is something on that system implicating you. Reflect back from your past application and try and sort any Discrepancies. Publich health is a good course and you are from a medical field so there is a fault somewhere. As for the passports you can go with the old one. If wearing a sweater will make you more comfortable pls do. I'm still Perplexed why your school indicated verification of funding on i20... Well not a big deal. Just reflect back on your application last year!

Cheers!

No one has filed for an immigrant visa on my behalf.
The first interview went okay. Normal questions were asked till the VO said 'why do u want to change career?'
I did not answer that well. (I have a couple of friends who are dentists going for Public Health who got their Visas.)
My documents-Bank statement, with supporting letter just as u said,School certificate, GRE+ TOEFL scores, admission letters,NYSC certificate, and the other school documents- SERVIS, I20, etc.
Graduated 2009, works as a denitst.

Julie am so sorry to hear that you was denied
Even me was disqualified at Abuja this July, so i ask the Guru here and there gave me solution to my problems, but what i noticed that even b4 the VO Ask me i was shaking, when i came out from the embassy i was just laughing, when i got home i was just receiving a lot of calls, i told them they were trying to console me, i told them this first experience. i can never give up like that

May be when he ask you, you did not sound convicely to him,

Why Public health:I have a passion to serve people, and improve the quality of health for those around me, rising need for public health specialists in Nigeria
is this all? common, you should have master it very well. please do more research

As for the DS-160 Form, please do not change too many info(vital) as this might affect your chance,

Please read more on Public health and it application to Nigeria

king1_00,dr do little
Thanks King1_00
Im thinking
--Could it because I have changed my job severally, with a change in income? I work part time so as to focus on this and do not earn so high presently.
--Another thing is - I applied for a B1 (visitor's visa) a year before applying for the first F1 and was denied on this 'home ties issue'.(Also, then I was earning quite high)
I felt the F1 application would be a fresh interview, and previous denials would not have a strong impact on it.
Sincerely, I do not know what discrepancies to sort out at this stage.

So I have been on this thread since 2010 and I have been following up throughout my GRE and TOEFL process, through my application process and through my spring rejects but I finally had my interview last Friday and this is how it went down.
It was pretty short (about 3 mins) as I told God I wanted the previous day and out of my over 20 documents, only 2 were requested by the VO.
I was at the Lagos embassy and about 4 VOs were interviewing:the African-American on Counter 1,one white guy on 2,one elderly guy on 3, and one other guy on the last counter.
The guy on C2 refused all the women that came for visiting(Did he think they were pregnant undecided). Anyway my token number was 174 and when i saw 173 on C2, I don dey fear but I don dey prepare my mind for a difficult interview even though I was sure I would make it.Suddenly C1 flashed 174 and I walked up to him on jelly legs. It seemed I had forgotten everything I had rehearsed. Anyway....
The Interview
Me: Good morning
VO: Pass your documents, please.
Me: I passed them. He scrutinized them and at the same time was looking at my face. Maybe he dey look this small boi wey dey go do PhD.
VO: Did you take the GRE?
Me: Yes I took it (I passed him my scores).
VO: Do you have your transcript?
Me: Yes, I do. I pass am.
VO: Looked at my transcript and asked 'What is ecology?' I guess this question came up because I studied Botany and I am going for a PhD in Ecology.
Me: I don already dey blow answer afterall na my turf na, but he stopped me and asked:
VO: What is the difference between Botany and Ecology?
Me: Botany is basically the study of plants while Ecology is the study of plants in their environment..both biotic and abiotic. Short like that, I no sabi talk too much wink
VO: So what will this degree do for you?
Me: Well, I already work here as a ...... so it will enable me get promoted more rapidly in my place of work.
As I was answering the last question He was already tearing the green ticket.
VO: Alright, I am granting you your Visa, go and collect it on Wednesday at Ikeja.
Me: In a small voice..thank you. I was trying to hide a smile but I was not successful. grin
All the best guys, I will try to be available to answer any questions. Cheers!
