Politics / Help My Friend In This Dilemma by Cutezt(m): 12:01pm On May 10
Good day, fam.

So, I have a childhood friend (let's call him Dave) who stays in a different state from me. We've been close pals since we were kids, and as it happened, when he introduced his girlfriend, now baby mama (let's call her Jane), to me, she was someone I knew and was friends with a long time before she met him.

They've been living together for some time now with their 2-year-old child. My friend is someone who is very hardworking. He is not a graduate but is skilled as an engineer and is one of the best, if not the best, in his field in the state he resides in. He has 3 shops and many people working under him, has a car, a land which he intends to develop soon, and many more. I'll say he is doing well for his age.

A few days ago, Jane chatted me up and was crying. She explained that she read Dave's chat with a mutual childhood friend (let's call him Iyke) of ours who has been in China since 2017, and he is planning on traveling to China to hustle. Now, I don't have a problem with that, but the urgency and the situation surrounding the whole thing is not very comfortable.

First, Iyke went to China to study, he graduated sometime around 2020 or so and has been there since. Now, I am not very conversant with China's immigration laws, so I am not sure exactly if his stay there is still legal, as I stopped checking up on him after he graduated and suddenly stopped the usual video calls and chats we used to have while he was schooling. He suddenly stopped responding to me, and after months of trying, I simply deleted his number and faced my battles. Moreover, nobody is feeding anyone, as I am doing very well for myself too.

The issue now is that my friend doesn't have the complete funds for the trip. He has decided to sell his car and some of his properties to make the trip. He also said in the chat that he will also ask me for financial assistance, which I am not even ready to give for such a gamble, by the way. From their conversations, Jane says he plans on going there to be a taxi driver, and our mutual friend has been asking him to learn how to drive manual cars. Now, I am wondering of what use is driving a manual car in a developed country like China?

Secondly, Jane discovered she was carrying their second child just a few days ago and is worried about the whole thing. The urgency of the whole thing is what borders me, as they came to inspect his car yesterday, just to show how urgent he intends to make this trip.

As for the funds, Jane told me that every time Dave and Iyke talk on the phone, Iyke is always talking in millions, but when Dave asks him to borrow some funds for the trip, Iyke refuses, saying he doesn't have, which is suspicious to me. We all grew up together in the same community, at some point, in the same house, so our parents and all know our bond. Another thing is that Jane overheard Iyke telling Dave to go do some fake documents, and for me, that is a big red flag. Anything that doesn't concern legal travel, I don't think is worth risking. Dave is financially down right now as he has already spent quite a lot on some documentation and bills to facilitate the trip.

I am not exactly sure how this decision will plan out for him, and I really do not want my friend to make unnecessary risky mistakes that will cost him. He has worked too hard to get to where he is today.

Iyke has not been back home for years now, for only God knows why. So, I was just wondering, if everything was so good for him over there, he would have at least visited his parents and siblings even if it's just once. It's been 7 whole years, also, immediately he graduated from school, he stopped posting anything online, no pictures, no post, nothing, he just likes and passes.

Please, I need your suggestions, fam. Do you think I should talk to Dave about this, or should I just let him make his own decisions?

Your installer holding staircase to work truly shows his regard(sic) for safety, anyways that's how you lots place no value for your life in Nigeria.

Don't diviate from the argument, that is not the bone of contention. A satellite can be tracked in 10 mins, get a competent installer, or if you are installer yourself, go and improve your skill.

Good reviews. Can it get FTA for sure?

Yes, I have seen a number of decoders with MBC 2 and the like, you can get many FTA channels with it, but I think something has to be done to the decoder to track those channels, an upgrade or something, either way, it is not a huge task for installers who are knowledgable.

Do they have the right to air super sport? Super sport belongs to Multi choice which owes DSTV. Something fishy is here mehn.

That's where the exclusive license rule comes in. SLTVs argument is that DSTV should subllicence these sports channels to them officially, but DSTV is refusing, which is why the case is still on. Since there is no more exclusive content right in Nigeria.

Either DSTV gives them the license, or slam them with a huge licensing fee for them to pay. Either way, it's going to be an interesting battle.

No technician will setup dish and decoder in 10mins or less...NO ONE.

just sell your market without adding sugar.

Lol, I do not have any affiliation with SLTV, or DSTV aside being a subscriber, I have no business with that, even the installer told me he was surprised he was able to properly track a good signal in such a short time. I had a dstv pan up already, he used it, and the most surprising part was that there was a car parked right under him, and the owner was out, so we couldn't move it to place a ladder as I stay in a duplex. The installer had to take risk and held the stair case to do his work and he did it in record time. If your installer lacks the capacity, it doesn't mean everyone does.

Be careful. SLTV is illegal. It is committing the same piracy crime that TSTV was committing before its owners went underground. They're stealing copyrighted content from a licensed operator and by using their platform, you are making yourself an accessory to crime. When NCC and BON eventually comes for SLTV, a lot of people will weep over the money they have thrown away

Seems you didn't read the post completely. The NBC was sued alongside Multichoice by SLTV for violating their own sublicencing codes to create a favorable environment for pay tv competition and SLTV won.

There is no more exclusive content rights in Nigeria, that privilege has been removed by the minister of information and the NBC.

I don't know what you are talking about but even if SLTV shuts down today, I am not at loss at all.
I can get an installer to still help me track FTA channels with the decoder.

Moreover, SLTV has been existing since 2019 and despite all the court battles, they still show Supersport till date.

TV/Movies / My Review Of SLTV After 2 Months Of Usage by Cutezt(m): 5:05pm On Apr 28
A few months ago, a friend told me about an exciting alternative to the ever-increasing DSTV prices - SLTV. Intrigued, I decided to give it a try.

One evening, I rushed home all hyped to catch the UCL action, only to find my subscription expired. Ready to cough up some cash, I recalled the SLTV chat with my friend and thought, "Why not?" So, I decided to explore SLTV

After some digging, I found a bunch of SLTV sites, many of which I realized were incomplete, without much information about the company. but I settled on one that had dealer info and locations at https://metrodigital.tv/find-a-dealer/.

I reached out to a nearby dealer, who initially quoted me 27,500 Naira. Cool, right? Determined to make the switch, I decided to wait until the following week to subscribe as it was the weekend. So next week rolls around, and bam! Dollar rates soar, and suddenly it's N37,500! (This was just a flimsy excuse by the dealer to extort me tho, the price still remains the same according to the company, but I let it slide when I calculated installation fees and all)
Still, compared to DSTV's wallet-draining ways, it seemed reasonable. So, I bit the bullet and called the guy over.

The next day, the dealer arrived promptly and had the SLTV decoder and dish set up in less than 10 minutes. I was thrilled to discover that I could now access all the Supersport channels and more. Eager to learn about the subscription options, I found that the Diamond package was priced at 2,500 Naira, while the Gold package was 5,000 Naira per month. I also learned that SLTV offered a variety of free-to-air channels, but I didn't bother to have the installer set those up for me.

My SLTV Experience

After using SLTV for nearly two months, here is my review.

1. Broadcast Rights:

While I was able to access all Supersport channels without restrictions, I've noticed that SLTV streams a majority of their channels from DSTV and YouTube.

Occasionally, you encounter the DSTV interface and error code on your screen, and also the YouTube auto caption (mostly on CNN) which writes rubbish. This can be discouraging and unprofessional.

I thought about how TSTV vanished into thin air, but I made peace with myself when I decided to view the SLTV installation fee as paying for a DSTV subscription, just in case SLTV later shuts down. After all, I still watch my matches at the end of the day.

The streaming experience can be inconsistent, with lags ranging from a few seconds to up to 2 minutes behind the live action.
Intermittent signal cuts during matches, though not frequent, can disrupt the viewing experience.

Digging a bit deeper, I discovered SLTV has been engaged in a legal battle with DSTV for some time now on sharing its broadcast rights. DSTV initially won the case, but SLTV appealed the judgment in a higher court and won the appeal, However, DSTV has also challenged the judgment, so the case is still ongoing. ( https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/542466-court-orders-multichoice-to-sublicense-channels.html?tztc=1 )

The handling of SLTV's social media presence and branding suggests a need for improvement in terms of professionalism, including the employment of a dedicated social media manager and a graphic design team. An instance where SLTV openly called out MultiChoice and included names in a post, I perceived as unprofessional.

As far as customer support is concerned, it is nonexistent! A call to the number listed for support on their website and you will be greeted with 'switched off', I wonder how customer care will be switched off. Their social media support is no different. When you encounter a challenge, your best bet is to get an agent/dealer. That is why it is good to keep subscribing with a particular dealer so as to build a relationship in case you need any help someday.

I was however comforted when I learned of the presence of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, at SLTV's launch. It was an encouraging sign that the platform had the backing of the federal government. This government support has provided a sense of reassurance that SLTV won't leave its viewers "hanging" (at least for the time being).

2. Picture Quality

When tuning in to SLTV for your favorite matches, it's important to consider the picture quality. If you own a large screen TV, especially 50 inches or larger, you might notice that the claimed full HD stations are not actually full HD, possibly around 480p or 720p resolution at best. However, it's worth mentioning that SLTV does offer approximately 2 Supersport channels in full HD. There is room for improvement in enhancing the overall picture quality across their channels.

3. Subscription System.

The affordability of their subscription service is overshadowed by the lack of a functional public subscription system. Despite promoting both an Android app and a website for subscriptions, using these platforms often results in your money vanishing into thin air.

Personal experience attempting to subscribe through the app revealed a disconcerting outcome - while the payment was processed successfully, the subscription failed to activate. Even after contacting an agent who checked my profile for me, no record of the subscription or money could be found. A frustrating situation where payment was made for a subscription that was never received, necessitating an additional payment from me for another subscription.

For a company serious about its operations in 2024, the absence of a reliable subscription system is a significant drawback. Relying on agents for subscription management is an outdated practice that does not align with modern consumer expectations. It is misleading to advertise apps and websites for subscriptions that are not fully operational. Even after subscribing sometime, you will need to call and disturb an agent to refresh your profile for it to start displaying. Further investigation revealed that this subscription issue is widespread among users, not just me, indicating a systemic problem that requires urgent attention.

4. Available Content

While the platform offers a respectable selection of channels, the content is not tailored specifically for the Nigerian audience. For instance, the music stations predominantly feature tunes from across Africa, rather than catering to local Nigerian Audiences as the company claims to focus on providing affordable local content.

Switching to channels like Trace or MTV, you often times encounter unfamiliar songs from East Africa or outdated hip-hop tracks.
The movie selection, although more recent than the outdated offerings on DSTV, still falls short of providing the latest releases. Similarly, the National Geographic and wildlife-focused channels, while present, do not offer the same level of entertainment value and content as the Nat Geo on DSTV. Even tho they are both Nat Geo/Nat Geo Wild, they show different content.

On a positive note, the platform does provide a selection of cartoon channels, such as Nickelodeon, to cater to the entertainment needs of children, as well as Nigerian Movies from Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Epic, and Urban movie channels.

In summary, SLTV may be a suitable option for football lovers with screen sizes of 40 inches or less, who are not overly concerned with picture quality. However, for those seeking a more tailored content experience and crisp visual quality, DSTV may remain the preferred choice.

I hope to provide a more detailed video review of SLTV before the end of the week. Please feel free to drop comments if you have any further questions.

I stayed in Badore for years. I dont know much about the holdup issue. But after Ajiwe, where you have the police station all the way to Shop Rite, you have many estates to the left and right. These areas are all okay. Unless you want to go in deeper to areas like Awoyaya

Do not go to Abijo GRA o. Do not take the comment above seriously. There is extreme spiritual backwardness and lack of progress casted on that entire environment o. People there basically just live in tatters, an area without more than 5-10 times of light in an entire year for over five years isnt a good area. Plus the difficulty in getting bike inside everytime asids from the cost.

I hope you know abijo GRA is massive? It's one of the biggest and deepest areas around Ajah axis. The issue of backwardness is for those who stay deep inside GRA, there are many wonderful estates with very rich and wealthy people at GRA. I hope you know that the estate where dangote refinery workers stay is in the same Abijo GRA?

Go to areas around the catholic church and all, there are countless wealthy and enlightened people there, I personally have many friends doing very well with their own personal houses in estates there, so the issue of being backward is limited to those living in the deep parts.

The only truth is the light problems. Getting bike even at midnight is not an issue. I have gotten a bike from the bus stop around 1am when we wanted to surprise a friend in his birthday, and there were many bikes there by that time.

About the cultism, no area suffers that issue like badore/okeira/langbasa in the whole Ajah axis.

What about Badore? How good is it compared to the ones you have mentioned

I'll say Abijo is a peaceful area, you get relative close access to amenities like the mall, good schools, fuel stations, etc, but like the other poster said, abijo suffers from light issues, it's very serious, Lakowe and other parts even get more light.

I'll recommend Abijo GRA instead, it's just like 3 minutes walk from Abijo and the people there are a lot more advanced than the archaic Abijo people, however, the light issues persist.

About the traffic aspect, it's due to the road construction and once completed, Ajah and other areas are just a breeze away.

Badore is the headquarters of cult clash and robbery in the Ajah axis.

Mr army sir, you are the useless and baseless ones.

The CAN chairman is not asking you for protection anymore, they are simply asking you to leave. Let who survives survive.
The statement is baseless, yet for hours, they were killing in Barkin Ladi, I personally have relatives there whom I spoke with when it was happening and I can attest to the fact that the helpline was called for many hours and nobody showed up until the terrorists completed their agenda and went away, this is not hearsay, I was on the phone hearing gunshots.

This has been the gameplan for over 20 years on the Plateau, impose a curfew, and then the bloodthirsty terrorists come and kill the law-abiding people observing the curfew in their homes, these terrorists are not spirits, they don't appear all of a sudden and start burning houses and killing people, so where are the security agencies meant to be enforcing the curfew? Or do they wear headsets and suddenly can't hear gunshots when this is happening?

Let the army leave and let the Plateau people show the world they are not cowards. It's so terrible that this is even happening in the current governor's LGA.
