Politics / Re: Pictures Of The Remodelled Benin Airport by Novice1(m): 10:25pm On Mar 12, 2013
Sincere 9gerian: http://fmi.gov.ng/nggt-edo-fg-upgrades-benin-airport-to-service-400-passengers/

Established in 1979 to cater for a traffic of over 200 passengers daily, the Benin Airport is being remodeled by the Federal Government to now accommodate about 400 passengers at a time.

Briefing members of the National Good Governance Tour at the Airport on Sunday, the Airport Manager, Mr. Ayodele Sunday said “because of the improvement in the socio-economic activities of the State it was impossible to accommodate users of the airport. He said for a very long time the airport was more or less abandoned.

We thank God that we have a President and also a Minister (Aviation) that is very visionary and they are agents of transformation.

“If you were here 11years ago, it was actually an airport that one would consider in shambles. It was totally neglected. It is an airport that now goes along with a lot of compliments. Before, we did not have Airconditioning, now we do. The conveyor belt will come, and just yesterday we also took delivery of 1000KVA generator and everything has been going on smoothly.

He said previously the airport only had Arrival and Departure halls but now it has a public concourse.
“Apart from the completed Departure and Arrival halls, also completed are the ticketing/airline offices.

In addition, also being constructed simultaneously is a new control tower as well asimproved weather forecast equipment and new terminal building.

He equally informed that to raise air safety, a Wind Shear Alarm System has been installed at the airport.

Sunday further stated that total VHF coverage has also been achieved at the Airport. According to him, the console the airport started with has been replaced with the new equipment.

“An aircraft that now takes off from Lagos can contact Benin. All the controllers are now very busy because Benin is an enroute station.
Aircrafts going to Port Harcourt, going to Enugu, Asaba, Warri are being controlled here.

While commending the work done so far, the Nigeria Union of Journalists President, Mallam Mohammed Garba assured that the media would follow up on the project to verify that the commissioning takes place in two weeks as promised by the airport manager.

The Minister of Works, Arc. Mike Onolememen, who hales from Edo State praised the aviation Minister for totally transforming the Benin airport.

“If you used to know what the Benin airport used to look like and what it is today you will better appreciate the works that has been done here. It is a very good sign of the many good things that will happen not only in the Aviation Sector but indeed other sectors of the national economy as encapsulated in the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan”, the Works Minister stated.

“My only plea to FAAN is that they develop a means of sustaining this development because sustainability is key”, he added .

The Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku noted that the country was now having standard airports that could measure up with those all over the world.
He said “The airports before now were like poultry sheds. If you go to old Akure Airport you would know what that kind of vision was. And an airport must have space for the operation of other businesses around the airport. I want to commend the Minister of Aviation again, Princes Stella Oduah for her drive and what she had done inour airports.

“This is the 11th airport under transformation. Kano has been commissioned, Lagos has been commissioned and Benin is virtually ready for commissioning with the exception of the lighting system which is being done to ensure this place has light to carry the new A.Cs.

“We also have 100 percent radar coverage of Nigerian Airspace now. Anyone who fliesinto Nigeria from anywhere, wewill pick you on our radar. This has been done in the last two years to ensure safety.

Responding to a question the Information Minister said Nigeria was not the only country having airports within city vicinity. He said

“It is our belief that God helping us, because even accidents could still occur with the most equipped airports. There are certain elements that are beyond human control but as we get more equipment, better aircrafts, better safety equipment accidents will reduce to the barest minimum.

He said the Ministry of Aviation, Private Sector operators and banks were working together to access newer aircrafts, pointing out however that the issue was not necessarily with the age of an aircraft but maintenance.

Wht is it always about the person? So a person doing his/her duty for which he receives pay becomes news?

Psycophancy is the bane of Nigeria

Democracy, in part, ensures mutual respect for people's beliefs and basic personal freedoms.

The NYSC law ( or decree, edict or whatever) should serve the people and not the other way round.

Movingcoil: y ar dz muslims supporting this islamists terrorists? Am stil confused why why why, the french are bombing the islamists terrorists not innocent people or are they innocent people?

And how do you define the T- word? must every fighter remotely linked to Islam bear that brand? Must Islam's name be mentioned in the T- title?

-Why was Brevik (who killed close to 100 people in Norway) not a Christian T?
-Why was the guy who rammed a taxi into a plane on the tarmac at Calabar airport and claimed he was sent by Jesus not called a T by the media?
-Recently a guy killed 20 defenseless children (nay babies) and their five teachers in an elemntary school, and his official title from the media was not a T.
-John Holmes opened fire in a theatre in Aurora last year, killing a number of moviegoers, and he was not branded the T-word.
The only time you hear the T-word is when a muslim is involved. International conspiracy to identify the Noble religion with the bad acts of a few people, mostly ignorant of the the Religion's teachings.

And follow-follow guys like you are ignorantly echoing the global obfuscation of our intellects by the Capitalist Military-Industrial Machine.
Politics / Re: What Can Be Done To Curb Corruption In Nigeria? by Novice1(m): 8:40pm On Jan 15, 2013
All your points are excellent ways we can curb corruption. But the establishment in Nigeria will never allow any single one of them to be implemented bloodlessly.

Revolution is the only way.

This is to all folks wishing for Pakistani-style drone attacks in Nigeria.
If you think the strikes will be limited to the North when they start, have a rethink.
They have more interest in the south (where the oil is, presently).
And dont think think you will be immune to the effects, when the devastation begins.

May be thats what we need to give a shot to our unity: A common enemy.

Guys I can't believe you did understand what martyns303 meant. He meant Arnold was exuding humility. How many of our former governors can behave like that.

The thinking is different.

Most Africans are always afraid of going back to poverty, develop complexes, and always look for ways to project affluence.

Europeans/Americans don't even have that on their mind. They just look for what they want, not out to impress/intimidate anybody.

Car Talk / Re: I Want To Buy A Bmw X5 Please I Need Your Advise by Novice1(m): 8:43pm On Dec 05, 2012
yesman: Hi, I'll be visiting the states where I intend to buy a used BMW X5 2002/2006 model and have it shipped to Naija. I'd like to know from current owners or those of you familiar with this car:

1. I noticed that this car is not popular on Nigerian roads, is it because of the cost or high maintenance? Or is it highly sought after by thieves?

2. What are the differences between 2002,2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 models (can't afford beyond that) as they seem to be within similar price range?

3. What should I consider as ideal mileage?

4. This will be my only car as I'm getting rid of my current, would it be ideal to use for another 4-5 years?

5. How much will routine servicing cost? Will I be able maintain it on my salary (i earn N400k/mth)

I'd appreciate valuable info from you guys before taking the plunge.

It isnt popular becuaseof the prohibitive maintenance costs..... I have a friend that went to coscharis for routine servicing and they submitted a quote of close to 800k. and 300k alone for registration.. becuase he did not buy the car from them.

Take it to the roadside mechanics and they will mess it up for you.

If you have another car, u can go for it because of the technology and comfort. But be prepared to park it forever in the future or sell it at a giveaway price.
