BEATING YOUR KIDS; Discipline Or Abuse? by Alexsmith20(m): 11:53pm On Oct 22, 2014
As an african man i believe in the adage which say "flog him once and he would flee twice".

but thats not how my wife sees it,she is always keen on pampering the kids base on the facts that she was born and brought up in the states and was not subjected to such method of discipline.

So my question is, is beating a form of ABUSE or DISCIPLINE?

its dicipline...but when it gets to a certain extent,it becomes abuse...e.g...regular beating of kids at every wrong done dose not always says dicipline...because at a certain stage, beating might become used to the child...so..at times its advisable to use other methods like;tongue lashing and punishments

it is pure abuse, why would inflict pain on your child and be happy about it. Thats psycho. Most people beat their children because the holy books say so.

I don't beat my children and they are wonderful, well behaved children. You start training them the day they are born. Talk, teach, mould their character and be a role model. Flogging instils fear and warped personality . It doesn't always work out fine.

It's depends on how one looks at it , I think it discipline to some point not when a child is beaten for every mistake he makes.

Not every offense should be corrrected with the rod. Beating kids incessantly is abuse. However, once in a while the rod should be used. Trust me. Silent treatment has a much more disciplinary effect than unnecessary flogging and beating.

for me, its discipline. There is this my neighbors kid, his parents named him after my name. Now, he disobeys his parents and talks nonsenseee when he is asked to do one or two things. But whenever my name is mentioned into his ears that they will tell me about his actions, he quickly adheres to whatever errand or instruction given to him

Some children will only change for good when you instill discipline on them through a form of beating.. it's always good to beat children because it helps to give them fear that if I do something wrong my mum/dad will end up beating me. But in a situation where the child knows that it'll result to only scolding the child will be willing to do that wrong doings over and over again..
Note: this goes especially to children brought up in an average home i.e parents that are not financially buoyant.
