owerri airport was omitted in the tabulated statistics of passenger travels

Nothing can explain the omission of Owerri other than the usual regional rivalry and envy. It'll be too much for one region to have the Owerri statstics included when the Enugu Domestic terminal is already ranking 4th.

On the other hand, the one international airline (Ethiopian), allowed to fly into Enugu, ferried 37,500 passengers to the airport in 2014. With an average of 3,125 passengers per month. This is impressive giving the fact that most air travellers in the region are averse to flying with Ethiopian.

Then, Asaba is one other airport they've equally refused to show us the statstics even as the passenger traffic at the airport has been quite phenomenal.

I don't want to make this about Tinapa, I've been through this before:

"The managing director of the resort, Bassey Ego Ndem, said Tinapa was designed to provide Nigerian businesspeople with a local alternative to Dubai and to retain some of the large amounts of money which have been flowing out of Nigeria. Ndem blamed Tinapa’s problems on the failure of Nigeria’s federal government to provide legal backing to the resort’s operations.Such legal backing, he said, was expected to include conferring on Tinapa the status of a free trade zone.

Former governor Duke’s administration reportedly received assurances from former president Obasanjo’s office that Tinapa would enjoy free trade status, but there is no paperwork to prove that the former president made the commitment.

The Tinapa project is still being considered by the federal government but the Customs Service has so far refused to give its approval. Ndem said the presence of customs officials at the resort – who carry out orders from head office not to allow the duty free zone to operate – had been a stumbling block to its operations."

Nigeria: Country Loses N219b Yearly On Tinapa - This Day
"Calabar — Nigeria may be losing more than N219 billion annually to Dubai due to the failure of the Federal Government to approve the procedures and guidelines for the take-off of the Tinapa Business and Leisure Resort in Calabar, Cross River State."

If you want to continue sleeping, that's up to you.
wow!! I didn't know of this........but since its obasanjo,I am not surprised........and this is the same man people wannt us to respect He did the same thing to tinubu as regards power generation........as I heard........only God knows why he didn't allow abacha finish his work on earth........

Yes but it was visible on the diagrams and ahead of Kano. I too would have loved a more detailed account but it unfortunately was omitted by NBS.

Correction: Against my earlier postulation of 37,500 passengers, the Ethiopian Airlines Enugu passenger traffic of 2014 was 46,442.

My apologies.

NAHCO commences cargo operations
at Enugu Airport
July 21, 2015 |

Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (Nahco aviance) has
commenced full cargo operations at the Akanu Ibiam International
Airport, Enugu.
Chinwe Chiji-Nnorom, chief financial officer of the company, who
spoke for Norbert Bielderman, CEO, who is on vacation, said the
opening of the two warehouses, one within the airport, and the
other a few metres from the airport, would further enhance the
development of the air cargo business in the South East, and the
country as a whole.

Bielderman had only few weeks ago inspected the warehouses
where he directed that it must start full operations before he
embarked on his vacation.
He also used the visit to meet with the Customs hierarchy at the
Enugu Area Command where the modalities for effective cargo
operations were agreed upon.

But speaking in Lagos, Chiji-Nnorom said the opening of the
Enugu warehouses was a major milestone for the company in its
determination to ensure that the economy of Nigeria was further
developed through the development of other airports in the country
outside of Lagos Airport.

The same excellent services Nahco aviance is known for in Lagos
would be available for all users of the company’s services at the
Enugu Airport, she assured.
“Nahco aviance would not rest on its oars in its continued efforts
at providing excellent services to its clients whether in Lagos,
which is our West Africa hub, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Kano, Kaduna,
Owerri or Enugu,” she said.

Nahco aviance is a Nigerian diversified enterprise with interests in
aviation cargo, aircraft handling, passenger facilitation, crew
transportation and aviation training. The company currently
serves more than 35 airlines at seven airports across Nigeria, with
plans to expand operations to other African countries. It handles
about 70 percent of domestic and foreign airlines operating in
Nigeria.

It was incorporated on December 6, 1979, as an aviation servicing
company but started operations in April 1979, with the
commissioning of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport,
Lagos.

Handsomegod:
I recalled informing you,my learned brethren on this thread, a month ago about the collection of diaspora technocrats whose sole aim is to drive an influx of FDIs never seen before into Enugu under Ugwuanyi.I equally told you guys some of them were already enroute to China and Europe? Gburugburu just confirmed that in his opening speech. The contigent to South Africa will be enroute to Joburg next week and the target is 3 billion dollars worth of Investments with low cost housing and solid mineral development having the upper focus.
Suffice it to say that great times are here in Enugu and the good news is that this bunch of technocrats are not only wawa born but also brothers from other states with prime interests in Enugu's mega-super-bright future! I pray Gburugburu does not become parochial and clannish! An all inclusive government is the real deal.
In another vein,mods,supermods,super-super mods, please,I beg all of you in the name of whatever (G) god you worship, push this thread back to the politics section where it belongs! There are countless trashy garbagges a.k.a threads with no substance for enlightenment and life occupying Politics section. This thread, just like the Anambra and Imo threads are our mirrors and meters to assess the quality of governance in the eastern states. The focus is pure State and Economy(Political Economy) and I struggle to know why and what d heck it is doing here@Travel session.
Meanwhile, have urself a soulful and sober Biafra remebrance day! I lost countless uncles and relatives, including 4 lawyers and 6 Engineers in the war. They did not die in vain.God bless us all!
this your post is still valid?especially the first three paragraphs?
