The most congested area in Owerri. Douglas road needs total demolition to meet up with other emerging and beautiful parts of Owerri.

Imo Government employs 3000 fresh graduates

A statement issued on Monday in Owerri by Mr Sam Onwuemeodo, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, said the employment was in fulfilment of the governor’s promise to provide jobs for Imo youths, especially graduates.
A breakdown indicates that a total of 1,499 graduates were engaged in the state’s civil service while 1,501 graduates were employed into the local government system.
The statement said the affected graduates, who are computer literate, had begun to collect their appointment letters.
“Before now, the governor had promised to inject new blood into the state’s civil and local government services with the aim of making the entire structure vibrant and productive in the overall interest of the state and its people.
“Also, before now and for the sake of the free education programme, the state government engaged more than 3,000 teachers to beef up the teaching staff in the state school system.
“The governor congratulates all the youths who have been employed in the current exercise after series of interviews and charged them not to disappoint the state,” it said.

[ENUGU—Ahead of his administration’s second year anniversary, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, yesterday, stirred celebration across the state as he simultaneously inaugurated 26 development projects executed by his administration. The projects sited mostly in the rural areas were among the 35 flagged off simultaneously late last year across the 17 local government areas, in line with the administration’s vision to open up the rural areas to create more urban centres for socio-economic growth.]

Enugu state govt says its vision is to open up more rural ares to make them urban centres.

In a video broadcast in 2015, Gov Okorocha labelled rest of Imo state, excluding Owerri, as rural areas - a tactic to save money that should have gone for provision of urban infrastructures outside Owerri.

For a diversion, he first dualized about 6km of urban roads in Orlu and Okigwe in 2012, but excavated and abandoned more roads in them.

Since then, he started to use the federal allocations of the 27 lgas, as well as the state's allocations and levies, (what fraction??), to demolish and build in Owerri.

Imo state excluding Owerri gets poorer, remains rural -: economically-dis-empowered.

Gov. Okorocha decorates top of the roads he builds in Owerri with metal-decor ornaments.

Many roads his govt excavated in Okigwe and Orlu since 2012 remain abandoned.

If this were to be a military govt, Okorocha should have been called to Abuja for questioning.

They don't need to demolish anything.
Just build a proper market along the Aba-Owerri express road close to Nekede and enforce total relocation to the approved markets. Then you can ban all street markets inside the city.

Go to Enugu, Anambra even Ebonyi and see the quality of roads springing up there...Now go to Gombe and see the kind of roads there then you will understand that these roads are just shoddy...

Tell Rochas to stop awarding road contracts to miscreants...Mind you, i am from isiekenesi in ideato south..

Do you live in Nigeria? If so you shoulda known how impossible it has been to push people away without demolition. It's same everywhere.

No one to tell this gov that his Owerri City shall be overcrowded, beaten down with social vices, by the time even 1/4 of Imo state moves down to settle in his Owerri City.

The tunnel looks alot presentable now. Any news on the ongoing road construction at umuguma from world bank. That place was a mess during Easter. The contractors should speed up the work.

People living in that area are impressed though many fear works might be interrupted by deep rainy season.

Like play like play the face of Owerri metropolis is changing rapidly. Watch out late 2018 how it will turn out. Douglas road and it's environs needs to be demolished and rebuilt like other parts of the emerging city.

oga, take it easy with this chestbeating line. ROchas is using Northern style, but we are Igbos, In igboland we tied to our ancestral land unlike in hausa land where one can move anywhere he want and that place becomes his home forever. This is why in the North, they build their cities and those who can afford to relocate does so while the remaining part of the state perish in stone age. My point is, the villages matter in Igboland and people, no matter the great heights they have attained, will somehow be tied to their villages. Okorocha need to touch the rural areas, of course the state capital takes the lion share

I wish we were still attached to our ancestral land but unfortunately we have deviated. Majority of Igbos now live outside their homeland and have invested all their life savings in foreign lands. There children have not been to the village and cannot speak Igbo language. I think we should spend more time in our villages and develop them. Okorocha has developed his village but we all need to develop ours.

Living outside is not the issue, being permanently attached to the village is the issue that is why it is only in igboland you see beautiful edifices outside the cities.Same reason all road even in innermost villages are on lockdown due to hold up during xmas period. same reason a lot money is always spent to take the corpse of every igbo person that died back to his ancestral home for burial. as for the bolded, Okorocha is governor, we are not all governors. It is because of the igbo way of life that he returned to his village and became governor instead of becoming a governor in Jos. Former governor of Kano, Ibrahim shekarau is originally from Borno state same with Abacha, but they have all lost touch permanently with their ancestral home, same is never possible with an igbo man

please can you use your influence and connection to make that suggestion get to the governor? Douglas needs a six lane road with clean and wide pedestrian devoided of street traders and tents.

Owerri looks beautiful indeed ,however,I heard Rochas with his own mouth on Channels said 70% of Imo allocation is buried into Owerri to beautify it. Anyway,if you guys are happy with that who am I.
Re: Few Pics From Imo State by OreMI22: 3:05am On May 31, 2017
If the intention is to make Owerri beautiful, Rochas should get in habit of planting trees and flowers massively and always.

A typical Nigerian believes the best way to beautify a place is to pour concrete. Then when they are abroad, they appreciate the impact of flowers and tress on the environment.

Without trees and flowers, you waste your time in trying to transform the environment of a city.

Owerri is not lacking in that aspect but what I saw is more like road expansion and not strictly beautification. Some places that were green have been converted to roads and concrete. I think it's normal everywhere including Dubai that some city highways come with concrete pavements for easy maintenance.

Okay, even if the median is concrete, then you could still plant trees on the sides which will help give the city a true feel of life.

Ancient city of Okigwe. The contractor that handled the dualisation of the major road should refund the money wasted on the poor work. Hopefully this bad work will be corrected for the good of those resident in this beautiful town.
