Orlu enjoyed massively during Okorocha’s first tenure but failed to cast her vote for him in his 2nd tenure. Areas like Mbaise and Orlu (Orsu, Oru West, Nkwerre, Isu, Oguta) seems to be neglected by Okorocha because of how they supported Ihedioha. Okigwe zone, Owerri and other L.G.A’s who stood for Rochas in his 2nd term campaign are those enjoying the largesse of the state. Common sense should tell you that Okorocha is on a revenge mission. So no need crying over split milk, instead cast your vote for candidates that will repair the neglected infrastructures in Orlu come 2019.

Orlu voted massively for gov. Okorocha in 2015.

In 2015, the politicians in Orlu zone refused to present another candidate to challenge gov Okorocha. What could have been greater support for Okorocha than that? OKOROCHA left too many uncompleted projects before 2015 election. There were fears if Okorocha was denied 2nd term, the projects might not be completed.
Today, those projects in Orlu area remain abandoned.

Okorocha is driven by ancient grudge against Orlu, not because of 2015 votes.

Since late 2013, after about four principal roads (about 5km in all) in Orlu were dualized, you can't see any news about development connecting
Rochas Okorocha and Orlu. Google is your help.

Abagworo, what does the government have planned for industrialization. Or is that being left for the next administration?
Also, a rail to Umuahia is life or death for Owerri. Has the possibility of this been discussed?

Power plant, cargo airport and industrial park are all at different stages. No Governor can venture into interstate rail line.

Konga is set to roll out two warehouses in Abuja and Port Harcourt next month in order to achieve same-day delivery for its teeming customers and accommodate first rate merchants.

A statement by the e-commerce company said that the Abuja warehouse which was centrally located would serve the northern region while the Port Harcourt warehouse would function as a major hub for the South-South and South-East of the country.

According to Konga, the newly refurbished warehouse in Lagos is expected to serve Lagos and other western states; and new warehousing facilities are being developed in Owerri, Enugu, Ibadan and Uyo to bring the brand closer to customers and merchants.

It explained that with the strategic warehousing, the company would roll out same-day delivery and relaunch Pay On Delivery in major cities.

It added that the warehouses had been certified by global IT warehousing/logistics agencies as best in class in Africa and equipped with state-of-the-art security, automation and cloud infrastructure.

Both warehouses, according to Konga, are highly secure structures and comprehensively insured to provide storage spaces for Konga’s growing merchants, enabling these partners who sell on Konga’s platform to stock their goods for instant access and order fulfilment to customers.

In addition, the company said the warehouses would make physical inspection of product quality possible, help the company to achieve same-day delivery and meet global standards in e-commerce.

The Chief Executive Officer, Online, Nick Imudia, noted that the set-up of the warehouses and upgrading of the company’s technologies and some of the many innovative strategies the company had unveiled was to lift standards in the e-commerce sector.

He said, “At Konga, we are passionate about customer satisfaction. With these warehouses in Abuja and Port Harcourt, our customers will enjoy the added luxury of same-day delivery of their items irrespective of their locations within the regions. For our merchants, it is also a chance to take advantage of greater storage capacity for their goods and products, allowing them to do larger volumes and grow their business.

“We are constantly working round the clock behind the scenes to set new standards and raise the bar of service excellence in the e-commerce industry. Some of our innovations and world-class strategies are gradually being unveiled and these massive warehousing facilities are one of such innovations. More of them will be unveiled in August and the coming months,” he said.

THE BENEFITS OF ACFTA FOR NIGERIA HUGE – OSINBAJO

ACFTA
The benefits of ACFTA for Nigeria huge – Osinbajo
— 16th July 2018
Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said the benefits of signing the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA), is huge.

He said this at the 8th Presidential Quarterly Business Forum with focus on the Export Sector and a brief on the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA).

President Muhammadu Buhari had last week confirmed that he would soon append his signature to the AfCTA.

He had at the opening of the 25th Annual General Meeting (AGM)) of the African Export-Import Bank (Afrexim) in Abuja, disclosed that the consultation process was almost over.

Buhari had at a joint briefing with the South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, last week in Abuja, said the delay in signing the agreement was because he wants to guarantee employment, goods and services in the country, adding that he was being careful with agreements that will compete successfully against upcoming industries.

The Vice President said, “With respect to the ACFTA, there are clearly huge advantage for us no question about it at all. The rest of Africa see the enormous advantage of Nigeria’s participation, everybody is waiting for us naturally and that is because they see a huge market, there are advantages of our being there. But we must ensure we get the best possible terms for Nigerian trade and commerce.

“Our experiences with dumping and other injurious practices makes it obvious to us that our market could be a real target, our local manufacturing could become unprofitable, our agricultural advantage could be reverse.

“Consequently, we have embarked on an extensive consultations with trade groups, manufacturers and organized labour in all the six geo-political zones in other to get a clear sense of concerns as we navigate the process of signing the treaty.

“I think the general resolve favours engagement but the concerns remains around improving the domestic environment for greater competitiveness, concerns of power supply and investment in infrastructure.“

Osinbajo said the government has noted the various studies that MAN will like to see done, adding “I think those background checks are important as to what works and what doesn’t work and what is going on with the industry and all that. I think those concerns are very crucial and I think many of them are being done already. But at the same time we must be careful not to give the impression that these are minimum pre-conditions for engagement with the process because the question of course has been asked when will we be ready? What is the opportunity cost of not engaging now? I think these are some of the concerns that we must fixed.

“The only way to go is that we must fix the gap, we must keep the engine running, there is no time for us to say let’s wait, take the entire time just to prepare. I think this is the time to go ahead and do something about it while we are taking into accounts all the issues that have been raised and making sure that we are negotiating well.”

Osinbajo said unlike in the past where treaties were signed without engagement, Nigeria was not only being engaged but was leading the engagement.

He said, “For the first time Nigeria is actually engaged and we are leading the engagement, this is something that has never happened in the past. In the past we found treaties that were negotiated nobody knew who negotiated them, nobody knew how they were done, nobody knew what was going on.

“I have been involved many years ago as attorney general in the federal ministry of justice, one of the critical things we did then was gathered all our treaties reports from 1990, I actually edited 10 volumes. All those volumes nobody knew who negotiated them, we just simply signed. But for the first time we have an office that we have trade negotiators and that is how come we are in the forefront of this particular negotiations, we actually went and poached Ambassador Osakwe from the WTO.

Because Nigeria is actually positioned today in Africa as the largest economy, we also want to be positioned as the leader in innovation, business, industry and to do so we have to have the right people that are competent, must be ready to work and must also understand this is how the environment work.

“And I think we have a big advantage in having our own negotiators taking the charge here. If we are the ones negotiating the terms are better for us than for us to seat back and watch other people do the negotiations that we may end up signing.”

The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah, stressed the need to be on the table of the negotiating while taking care of the concerns raised by the private sector else Nigeria will be shut out.

“If we are not at the table when the engagement is going on because those at the table are those who are deciding, so if we are not at the table we actually run a risk of being shut out. I have had meetings with some of the lead manufacturers and what we have proposed going forth is that, both Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and other stakeholders should join our working committee to make sure we engage. But the idea of not signing the agreement actually disadvantages us, it weakens our position. As have been pointed out by the speakers, the agreement is a ticket to play and I mean not buying the ticket to play is suicidal in a market where the consequences will be there.

“So I suggest we do both, we accept to play and also solve these problems and make sure the work goes on. And that we want to do collectively in a partnership. We are going be having another meeting with MAN and other stakeholders who are interested in continuing with us very soon.”

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, said Nigeria with six export cities cannot be afraid to sign the agreement when counties with single export city have signed.

He said, “I hear that we are not ready. I am not a business man, I don’t know how to do business. But if the decision on whether to sign or not were mine, I will look at the countries that have signed. The interesting thing about the countries that have signed is that, unlike us where we have Kano, Kaduna, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Lagos, Owerri, six different cities
that can land an Air plane and other cities like that, the countries that have signed are one city countries – Rwanda – Kigali, Niger – Niamey, Ghana- Accra, those are the countries that have signed and we are afraid?

“How much power do we have and we say we are not ready? Just listen to me and you can fact check this, as at 2016 Rwanda was trying to get to 106 megawatts of electricity, the suburb of Rwanda are on generators. The only place that I saw that has dual carriage way when I visited last year was the GRA, all their roads are one carriage way, but they are ready.

“Apart from the airport in Accra built by the American Nexim Bank, which other roads have dual carriage way? Because I go there. It might interest you to know the Niger Republic power minister came to see me, they are owing us on power but they are ready. We supply 150 megawatts of their power their entire grid is 250 megawatts, the 150 we supply they can’t distribute more than 110 megawatts but they are ready. Ghana has roughly about 3000 megawatts installed, they are distributing only 1,600 megawatts that’s a little above what Lagos is getting.

“So, do we want to play in the olympics or in the Para Olympics.”

The Director General and Chief Negotiator, Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN), Ambassador Chiedu Osakwe, disclosed that 49 out of 58 members of the African Union have signed the ACFTA agreement while six have rectified.

He said in ECOWAS, out of the 15 members 13 have signed, while only two Nigeria and Guinea Bissau, have not signed.

He said, “On current trend, the ACFTA should come into force by the end of this year, one point I should leave is this and you need to know because you are the drivers of the economy, Nigeria has not engaged since the signing on the21st of March. The reason I say this is that one, signatories including the team in ECOWAS are moving on with the development of the goods and services schedules and they will table them over the next few weeks with the AU with the ACFTA, so that work is ongoing.

“Secondly, with regards to the products specifics roles of origin, remember what we negotiated, agreed and will be signed are the general roles of origin. Negotiations have since resumed with the products roles of origin, I think you need to know that the world moves on nonetheless.

“There is a strong support for it but at the same time there is consensus by the private sector that there are issues to address on Nigeria’s business environment to address.”

Some business stakeholders at the meeting insisted that it was still too early for Nigeria to sign the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA).

While accepting that the agreement will be good for Nigeria in the long run, the private sector players maintained that many things still need to be put in place in the country before Nigeria can sign the agreement.

Among the infrastructures they want in place, include good interstate roads, power, access to ports, efficient rail transportation in the country.

They expressed fear that Nigeria may eventually become a dumping ground.

Speaking at the interactive session, the Chairman of NEPAD Business Group and former President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chief Mrs. Nike Akande said Nigeria is not ready for the agreement until Nigeria’s goods and services are competitive enough.

She pointed out that the government cannot do it alone, otherwise the country will become a dumping ground.

According to her, good infrastructure is key to promoting trade and investment.

Also speaking, the Vice President of the North-West Zone of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Engineer Ibrahim Usman, said “We are not against signing the agreement, but if we don’t get this right, we will be in trouble.

“We agree that the agreement is for services and not goods. If things are still work in progress, why the hurry?” he queried

He also urged the government to urgently conduct three studies including export market survey, study on national economic industrial product survey and study of liberalization on manufacturing in the country as a whole.

Ministers, National Assembly representatives and Private Sector operatives were in attendance at the 8th Presidential Quarterly Business Forum.

We need to lay more emphasis on improving the GDP of Imo state, Orlu seems to have the potential to be a trade and commercial hub for the state and hence the economic planning team should consider ensuring the necessary infrastructure is made available. A major market that has a modern outlook both in structure and perception should be built, not all these coagulation of dwarf or our typical one storey building shopping complexes we are used to. We need something modern. Orlu's proximity with Onitsha could push it to be an annex trading center for owerri, umuahia and okigwe.

Okigwe could be a manufacturing hub, the presence of that bottling company's manufacturing plant - can't remember the name now, can help promote a favorable economics of scale for the success of other manufacturing concerns. Okigwe's strategic position creates an opportunity for it to exploit the markets that is abia, anambra enugu and even ebonyi. We need more strategic policies of development in Imo state. We seem not to be making headway with current state of affairs.

I guess you aren't from Imo State. What you wroye has already been done and investors will gradually key in. At least 3 new markets have been built in Orlu by Okorocha in addition to the one built by Udenwa while an expressway from Owerri through Orlu to Akokwa and Anambra boundary has been built by same Okorocha. Okigwe is undergoing same process and so are several other towns and villages. Disregard what you are told by opponents.

MADUMERE’S IMPEACHMENT; IMO LAWMAKERS DARE JUDICIARY, IGNORE COURT RULING *Orders Clerk To Issue Notice To Dep Gov Through Publication

Posted by admin on Jul 16th, 2018.

By Onyinyechi Amakaulo

In a bid to properly execute their plans, the Rt Hon Acho Ihim led Members of the Imo State House of Assembly surprisingly returned to the chambers for what they tagged Special Sitting, on Monday.

Our correspondent who was at the complex and monitored proceedings during the emergency Plenary Session discovered that the lawmakers not only ignored the court order against their continued execution of the Impeachment of the Deputy Governor, but also kept mute about the ruling of the Abuja High Court.

It would be recalled that angered by what is going on in the Assembly complex where five lawmakers have been suspended and there is a serious push to remove the Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, a citizen of the state went to court in Abuja to challenge the action of the lawmakers.

The action of the lawmakers was on the move until an Abuja High Court intervened and acted on a Motion ex-parte filed on 03/07/2018 by one Stanley Okwara seeking an Order of the Court restraining the Speaker, and the Chief Judge from initiating and exercising any action with a view to removing the governor or the Deputy Governor of Imo State without the suspended four lawmakers.

Using 16 paragraphs affidavit to support his claims, the trial judge who said that while he is cautioned not to take orders sought in the motion ex-parte so as not to “frustrate the smooth running of the Imo State House of Assembly or restraining the Honourable Chief Judge of Imo State from exercising his constitutional duties” the prayers were granted and applicant to serve the processes in the suit 1st to 6th (including the Speaker and Chief Judge) through substituted means.

The judge also ruled that parties maintain the Status Quo pending the hearing of the Motion on Notice so as not to destroy the res in the motion of notice.

The case was adjourned to November 27, 2018 for Hearing.

Trumpeta noticed on the floor of the House that the Majority Leader, Hon Lugard Osuji representing Owerri Municipal moved a motion citing Section 188 /7of the Nigeria Constitution as amended stating the process to carry out impeachment processes.

The House further states that the constitution will help them do the needful.

The Speaker further instructed the Clerk of the House to do a newspaper publications both in state and national levels as well as radio announcements and pest copy of the letter in the office of the Deputy Governor to avoid not complying with the authority of the House.

Speaker lhim also informed the Chief Judge of the State to carry out his investigation based on the committee set up early.

The house do adjourned to 28th of July 2018. This newspaper noticed that while proceedings were on, on mention was made about the Court Case.

Meanwhile, in a statement, a group has decried the action of the House. The statement reads; “The Imo State All Progressives Congress (APC) Stakeholders Forum wishes to thank the good people of Imo state for their resilience and steadfastness in standing up to the latest of Governor Rochas Okorocha’s perfidy against our collective integrity. The Forum salutes every well meaning citizen of the state who, through one medium or the other, has stood behind it in the fight against the governor’s plan to turn the state into a jungle of irrationality and brigandage, the latest of which is the planned impeachment of the deputy governor of the state, His Excellency, Prince Eze Madumere.

“The Forum wishes to assure the good people of the state that it will not relent in its efforts at ensuring that Governor Okorocha does not succeed in his grand plan to remain in office after serving his constitutionally permissible eight years, by imposing a member of his family, Mr. Uche Nwosu, on the state as the next governor.

“As the peace loving and law-abiding people of the state must have learnt, a court of competent jurisdiction has halted the planned impeachment of Prince Eze Madumere, pending the outcome of a motion on notice by a concerned citizen of the state; and that the hearing of the motion has been fixed for November 28, 2018. The court, an Abuja federal high court, also gave an order that the status quo remains pending the determination of the case.

“The Forum, however, has it on good authority that His Excellency, Governor Rochas Okorocha has directed the leadership of the Imo State House of Assembly to ignore the court order and proceed with the impeachment process. According to information from government circles, the governor assured the legislators that he is in a position to shield them from getting punished for disobeying the court order”.

If we want to achieve such groundbreaking feat it has to be as a united Igbo region not this "mind your business' attitude of both us and our Governors. There's a bridge linking Imo and Anambra that collapsed recently and both Governors and people have not been able to pool resources together replace it. Meanwhile the bridge is just maybe 30 to 50 meters.

Why would one suggest a single governor to construct railway line linking both states? You guys are very funny, for real! It’s like asking Okowa or Obiano to build the second Niger bridge, or Bello to link Lokoja to ABJ by track.

Why didn’t El Rufia construst the Abuja-Kaduna metro line? See, until the leaders of the SE gets their political calculations right, you guys should stop proposing such a heculian project for a single person to embark on. And I wonder why you guys are not proposing Aba and Owerri rail route, instead of Umuhia.

that's not true. You need cooperation with the federal government and at most, Abia state. If it's a privately led project better. It is a shame that small things like that bridge aren't attended to, but you have the governor's ear. What's the wait?

Geographically Umuahia is closer. There's nothing like political connections. Those people hate igbo people. Are they not connected to igbo politicians? Is Rochas not APC? What about Ngige? APC is an anti-igbo coalition and that's more than obvious.

The time for complaining about what's fair is over. Lets us what we have to have the life we want. Imo natives built Owerri airport, not the federal government, today we're all benefiting enormously. I believe in developing our land and working towards actualizing Biafra at the same time, but once you say mention the federal gov., we're no longer speaking on reality.

See, until the leaders of the SE gets their political calculations right, you guys should stop proposing such a heculian project for a single person to embark on. And I wonder why you guys are not proposing Aba and Owerri rail route, instead of Umuhia.

Sincere.

Already, there is the federal government standard rail route proposed to link most of the Eastern states.

It's a herculean task for Okorocha or any other governor to build inter-state railway lines.

Anyhow, Owerri is a civil service town, no industry. It requires passenger train and train transporting fuel tankers.

First, you missed the import of my response, which is: a state Governor can’t embark solely on such capital project that cut across states. However, since you wish to derail a little, let’s ride on!

You claimed APC is anti-Igbo, what did PDP do for SE. You guys had GEJ as your man, why didn’t your politicians persuade him to link Aba-Owerri-Umuahia or Asaba-Onisha-Enugu-Abakaliki? The Enugu-Onitsha express way is till deplorable till date. Under PDP, the only established airport was not functional, despite having your daughter up there. It took just few years to set-up kaduna airport under APC, but you guys failed to deliver one functional airport in 16yrs under PDP.

See, the leaders in SE are greedy and gullible. Under GEJ, the old Eastern region couldn’t establish a viable trading route from Aba through Ikot-Epkene down Calabar. Go see the road linking these towns, it’s in a pitiable state, yet you want to blame APC.

The lesson I’m trying to teach you is that the infrastructure deficiency in SE/SW has nothing to do with political party, but majorly on the tenacity of the politicians to push for projects and the will to see them actualize. The FG is connecting Lagos and Ibadan, Abuja-kaduna-Kano-Maduguri, while other important tracks are deferred to later phases, with your sons as minister of transport and trade. Or don’t you think Chibuike has the power to push for PH-Onitsha-Enugu rail carriage?

The greater Eastern region needs to act as a group and shun their individualism. Push for project that will improve the region as a group and see to their implementation. Forget about this APC or PDP stuff, hold your representatives accountable and see to project completion. It’s sad that till today Owerri axis of Ph-Owerri road is uncompleted, same with Enugu-Onistha, yet we want to blame APC. It’s like the Black American here in the States accusing the white for their backwardness, instead of getting the right education to compete for opportunities that abound in the country

Building Prison is federal government responsibility.

Building Police Barrack is Federal Government responsibility.

Okorocha using the money that should have provided amenities to your favourite Owerri to build these federal government projects - that's what people decry. But as usual, you jump the gun.

According to information from government circles, the governor assured the legislators that he is in a position to shield them from getting punished for disobeying the court order”.

http://www.imotrumpeta.com/?p=20003

About 90% of Imo legislators that signed the impeachment move are from Orlu zone.

Continuity of Okorocha/Nwosu is what they are paving the way for, But Okorocha/Nwosu concentrate more than 95% of the government's development projects in Owerri zone.

Sotay, Okorocha/Nwosu opened up another IMSU campus in Owerri. another in Okigwe zone, established a College of Education in Okigwe zone, but set up a committee headed by Acho Ihim to relocate Imo state University Teaching Hospital from Orlu to Owerri.

Tufiakwa!!!

Okorocha is waiting for Orlu votes to make Nwosu governor so that he can get enough political clout to relocate IMSUTH from Orlu to Owerri, in his bid to trade IMSUTH with Owerri, so that Owerri shall not question how Okorocha built his private Eastern Palm university while sitting as governor of Imo state. In 7 years, all the roads leading to IMSUTH have remained dilapidated, despite all pleas by stakeholders before Okorocha/Nwosu to repair the roads.

See what Okorocha's selfish ambition is doing to Orlu zone.

Who told you Owerri has no industry? Do you know the number of industries that BOI have helped open in Imo state in the last 4 years? People in Nigeria are just ignorant, no wonder a person ignorantly said that Okorocha is still owing 2 years salary all because of hate and ignorance.

It still falls on ignorance. I still wonder why Igbos supported GEJ massively knowing fully well that GEJ,s tenure was the worst for Igboland since 1999.

Name the industry or industries in Owerri.

Hopefully you are not taking block moulding and aluminium sheets retailing companies in Owerri as industries.
By industry we mean manufacturing enterprises that employ scores or more people a shift.

There is no industry in Owerri.

Owerri thrives by the three public universities and two polytechnics in Imo state all located in or nearest Owerri, without any regard to the fact that Orlu and Okigwe zones are also part of Imo state.

These five tertiary education institutions in Owerri bring about N2 billion a week to Owerri.

Which PDP made Ebonyi state a rice capital? Hope you are not referring to the FG? PDP is the most useless party in Nigeria.

Which PDP made Ebonyi state a rice capital? Hope you are not referring to the FG? PDP is the most useless party in Nigeria.

Of all the things I listed you only found 1 you could question.

Central Bank of Nigeria Tuesday in Yenagoa said that a 50 kg bag of Nigeria rice is selling in Ebonyi for N8,000.

This was disclosed by the Acting Director, Corporate Communication, CBN, Mr Isaac Okoroafor, in Bayelsa State.

Speaking at a sensitization workshop for the CBN Anchor programme for farmers, he said: “We should eat Nigerian rice provided for by the CBN Anchor Programme; 50 Kg of local rice is now N8, 000 in Ebonyi. Already, the Abia Government has ordered rice from Ebonyi for Christmas,”.

He said that the Anchor Borrowers Programme for the promotion of Agriculture has set the country to begin exportation of rice by 2017.

According to him, farmers in Kebbi, Jigawa, Ebonyi, Sokoto and Cross River states, among others, have already keyed into the programme, resulting in massive rice cultivation. He said the country would achieve self-sustenance in rice production if the momentum was sustained, adding that the country should commence exportation of locally produced rice by 2017.

Okorafor said Kebbi State had already harvested one million tons of rice, adding that Ebonyi’s harvest had outstripped the earmarked production for the year.

“The development is encouraging and by the end of 2017, we will not only meet our national demand which is between six and seven million tons but have surplus to export.

“We must rid ourselves of eating foreign rice that has been stored for over nine years in Thailand, Vietnam and India. Nigerian rice is fresh and healthier.

He further said: “What we have done with this programme so far is to create jobs through farming, especially for the unemployed youths.

“Nigerian youths must wake up, dust themselves up and join this worthy campaign.

“Remember that the status of our farmers is now better due to the support they are receiving as a result of government’s policy. Our currency is weak because we engaged in needless importation of all kinds of food stuffs, including tooth picks; the government is determined to stop this.”

The Branch Controller, CBN, Yenagoa, Mr. Oke Nwajah, said the state was blessed with rich wet soil that supported rice cultivation. He therefore, urged the farmers to take pride in farming, adding that the Anchor Borrowers Programme was an intervention to reduce their burden.
