Call center agent for the bank ni, not the main banking hall job
A number of Deposit Money Banks in the country will close many of what they described as unprofitable branches as the economic recession continues to bite harder, investigation by our correspondent has shown.

It was similarly gathered that most of the banks would lay off hundreds of workers between now and December.

The revelation came barely 24 hours after Unity Bank Plc laid off about 300 workers, more than the 220 that was mentioned last week.

Diamond Bank Plc, Ecobank and Skye Bank Plc had earlier in the year sacked over 3,000 members of their workforce.

It was learnt that following the economic downturn in the country, a number of bank branches could no longer justify their existence as cost analysis had shown that the financial institutions were spending more on salaries and overheads than the income from the branches.

Some top bank executives, who confirmed the development to our correspondent under the condition of anonymity on Monday, said some lenders might be forced to relieve more workers of their duties before the end of this year.

An executive director in one of the banks that recently asked some of its workers to go said, “We have laid off some of our staff members but that it still not enough. Many branches are just existing for the sake of being there. They are not generating enough income. What they are bringing in is far less than what the bank is incurring as costs on them.

“We may have to close such branches before the year ends. I know a number of other banks that are planning something similar.”

Commenting on the development, an ex-banker and Chief Executive Officer, Cowry Asset Management Limited, Mr. Johnson Chukwu, described branch closure as an ongoing action in the banking sector, especially in times of economic downturn.

He, however, noted that banks were required to notify the Central Bank of Nigeria before closing any branch.

“It is an ongoing administrative thing in the banking industry. Banks will want to rationalise branches, especially in a difficult economy. Banks are planning to cut costs. Branch rationalisation is normal but the CBN has to be notified,” Chukwu explained.

The banking sector has been facing a number of challenges following the downturn in economic activities.

The slowdown in the economy, which has led to a high rate of non-performing loans in the banking system, made four lenders to lose at least N17bn in profits in the first quarter of this year.

Specifically, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, Unity Bank Plc and Diamond Bank Plc recorded a combined decline of N17bn in their profits before tax for the three months ended March 31, 2016, when compared with the corresponding period of 2015, according to the results of the financial institutions posted on the website of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

Phones › Blackberry-xit: Why Whatsapp May Lose Many Nigerian Subscribers by 0ubenji(op): 6:39am On Sep 22, 2016
IT is no longer news that Whatsapp, the world’s most popular messaging application will not be available on the BlackBerry platform come 2017. What might be news however, especially to the Facebook owned company, is that many Nigerian BlackBerry faithful say they will choose the Canadian mobile brand over Whatsapp. Although BlackBerry might have lost face all over the world, it is still a dearly beloved brand in the world’s most populous black nation for a variety of reasons. The easy-to-use physical keyboard associated with many of the older blackberry models is one of them. Although Android and Apple devices have relegated the physical QWERTY to the middle ages, it is still a feature loved by many Nigerians. Another point to note is the price factor. As a result of the BlackBerry boom in Nigeria few years ago, the country’s major networks designed special services for subscribers who used the brand. The average customers internet needs can be met with a one-off payment of N1000 a month. This feature, unavailable on other platforms makes the use of data more expensive on other Smartphones. Caterer, Princess Nwadinobi is attracted to the blackberry brand for this very reason. “I don’t really like the fact that Whatsapp is leaving BlackBerry. With a cheap subscription fee, I can browse easily every month on my BlackBerry unlike other phone brands that will cost me more. I think I’ll still stick to my BlackBerry because I can talk and do business with my customers through the BlackBerry messenger and Facebook messenger. Although device lovers, Nigerians are feeling the crunch of a dwindling economy, with the dollar rising faster against the naira like a cup of Ijebu garri in cold water. For millions of blackberry users across the country, getting a new device simply to accommodate an app might not be top priority. Mr. Sanmi Mosiko for example, a student at Kogi state University is more interested using his finances to further his education. He told Glamtech: “I won’t get a new phone even when I can no longer use Whatsapp on my BlackBerry. I’d rather do without the app.” There are still a few who might leave BlackBerry for Whatsapp. School teacher, Miss Amarachi Williams told Glamtech that she would have to get herself a new phone that makes use of the app because whatsapp is important to her. Be that as it may, it is unlikely that you’ll find a BlackBerry shelf when you go to a dealer in brand new devices-at least not in the Lagos metropolis. But that doesn’t mean that BBs are no longer sold in Nigeria. Just like with almost everything ‘Tokunbo’, the second-hand mobile market here is a thriving one, and Blackberries are still a major part of that market. Nigerians are still using Blackberries every day and that’s unlikely to change overnight or even in the next three months when Whatsapp will say goodbye to Blackberry.

oaroloye:
SHALOM!

These are very foolish questions.

First of all, you should tell us what you think happened on SEPTEMBER 11th, 2001.

I think that you are one of those utter fools, who believes that 19 Arab Muslim Hijackers seized four Jet Airliners, and rammed two into the Works Trade Centre sktscrapers, one into the Pentagon, and one which they attempted to dive into the WHITE HOUSE was crashed in a struggle between the Hijackers and the Passengers.

Let me begin with that jet first.

It is claimed that it crashed, but actually it was shot down. The proof of that is that its debris trail covered two miles. That is impossible in a crash.

(2) FLIGHT 77 went nowhere near the Pentagon.

That was ANOTHER LIE.

The first damage to the Pentagon was a 12 foot hole. It is impossible for any sort of AIRLINER to fit in there.

Six men were photographed leaving the scene with something under a sheet- the size was consistent with a CRUISE MISSILE ENGINE, which they could not allow to be found there.

By the time the press were allowed to see the fire brigade fighting the fire, they had enlarged the hole to destroy the wall- BUT IT STILL WASN'T BIG ENOUGH TO ACCOMMODATE A BOEING 757 AIRLINER!

Then they said that the fire was so fierce, that the plane was VAPORIZED!

Even the ENGINES were burned to ASHES.

Commonsense should tell anyone that that was impossible.

(3) THE WORLD TRADE CENTRE WAS BLOWN UP WITH EXPLOSIVES.

There were no planes.

The US MILITARY has the ability to create HOLOGRAPHIC IMAGES.that look like AIRLINERS.

Nobody saw the first plane hit.

George W. Bush, hiding in a classroom, waiting for news of the successful destruction of the WHITE HOUSE claimed that he saw the first airliner hit on a TV in the school.

That is a LIE.

No one saw the first "plane" hit.

There were several shots of the second "plane" hitting. This was interesting.

A video allegedly taken by a man whose name was reported, ended up on CNN.

If watched in SLOW MOTION, the PORT (LEFT) WING TIP clearly passes BEHIND the top of a building that was BEHIND the towers!

That is: this was a CGI FAKE.

(This video is on YOUTUBE.)

FIREMEN WHO ESCAPED THE COLLAPSE REPORTED HEARING EXPLOSIONS ON THE FLOORS ABOVE THEM:

."Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!"

One of them said, demonstrating with his hand.

ALL OF OUR SCIENTIFIC EXPERTS BETRAYED US IN THE YEARS TO COME.

A KID was asked whether she believed the Government version of 9/11. The schoolchild said that she did not.

Asked why not, the child replied simply:

"Because JET FUEL cannot melt STEEL COLUMNS!"

OUT OF THE MOUTH OF BRATS...

So therefore you see how foolish you are for throwing your Soul away, blaspheming God, and for WHAT?

Supporting the LIES of MURDERERS- who DON'T CARE about YOU!

The foolish Government dropped an ENGINE in the street, and said that it came from one of the planes. However it turned out to be THE WRONG TYPE OF ENGINE FOR A 757 AIRLINER!

THESE are the people you allowed to turn you against GOD?

Good luck with that!

TV/Movies › Nigerian Subscribers Blast Dstv, Demand Better Service by 0ubenji(op): 7:43am On Sep 21, 2016
Subscribers to DStv service in Abuja have called on the relevant regulatory bodies to check what they described as “inflexible’’ subscription conditions.
The subscribers to the digital cable TV service made the call in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.
They complained, among other things, about the absence of toll-free lines to reach the company whenever necessary, absence of free-to-air channels, as well as exorbitant subscription rates for bouquets.
The Consumer Protection Council (CPC) had in February issued a directive to MultiChoice Nigeria, owners of DStv, on the need to be flexible on its dealings with subscribers.
Investigations by CPC earlier had confirmed allegations of violations of consumers’ rights leveled against MultiChoice Nigeria in the delivery of its service.
Consequently, it ordered the cable company to, among other things; provide toll-free lines to its subscribers, release free-to-air channels, even when subscription expires and compensate consumers across board for lost viewing time.
The council also observed that the DStv billing system, whereby “billing is not contemporaneous with the provision of service” was not in the best interest of consumers.
It, therefore, ordered MultiChoice to install a billing system that would ensure that billing was commensurate with the provision of service.
However, over six months after the order was given by the CPC, subscribers to DStv service were still agitating for better service experience.
Some of them said that DSTV was yet to comply to the order, alleging it was either the company had “settled the CPC or money has exchanged hands’’.
Martins Asuquo, a civil servant, said there was the need for the cable company to be more sensitive and responsive to the Nigerian market in view of the present economic challenges.
“Our regulatory bodies should call DStv operators to order.
“If it really means well for Nigerians, DStv needs to listen to its customers and make its service affordable and readily accessible.
“If you are having any challenge with the service, you will have to make sure you have enough airtime on your phone before you can contact its customer centre.
“Why can’t they provide toll-free lines for us?
“If they have, let them make such lines readily available to their numerous customers across the country,” he said.
Mr. Asuquo said it was annoying that the company always reminded customers to renew their subscription that was yet to expire.
“One will always receive series of calls to be reminded on the need to get prepared for the next subscription.
“This is more disturbing when you realise that you will be yanked off as soon as your subscription expires.”
Another subscriber, Juliet Ogunyemi said the company had no free-to-air channels, in spite of the huge money they were making from Nigeria.
She added that there was need for the company to list all Nigerian local television stations on its free-to-air channels in all its available bouquets.
“The only free-to air channel I know on DStv for now is CCTV, which is not even our indigenous station.
“I don’t think it will amount to giving too much to Nigerians if DStv increased our free-to-air channels.
“We have remained loyal and consistent to this company over the years, let it reciprocate our loyalty,”Mrs. Ogunyemi said.
She added that the company’s service suspension mechanism, on account of being away for some time, was yet to be made efficient.
“If you apply for suspension of service, it normally takes longer than you wanted before they will make it effective.
“This also reduces the duration you are supposed to enjoy your subscription.
“It will be better if a code is devised to enable a subscriber apply for it on his or her mobile device,” she said.
In the same vein, Tijani Atojoko, a sports enthusiast, noted that some popular channels, especially on sports, were not available in certain bouquets of DStv.
“Sport is something almost everyone loves and follows.
“There should be an equitable spread of popular sports and other channels in the bouquets.
“Government should make DStv see reasons to make its service better for us.
“I don’t think this is how they operate in other countries such as South Africa,’’ he said.
Erica Ovuakporoye said since she subscribed to the cable TV, she’s had a nasty experience.
According to her, DSTV is exploitative.
Ovuakporoye said that even after renewing her subscription, she would still be disconnected.
She said the most annoying aspect was that she had to spend her airtime to call DSTV for a problem that was not her making to be rectified.
“It is so annoying and frustrating, the Nigerian Government has to stand up and protect its citizens from the exploitation of these foreign companies,’’ she said.
When NAN contacted Abiodun Obimuyiwa, the Deputy Director of Public Relations of the Consumer council, he said MultiChoice had complied with the order.
“We can confirm that they complied with our order. I am aware that DStv now has a toll-free- line for its subscribers.
“Also, they have also compensated consumers across board for lost viewing time.
“I don’t know why some subscribers are saying they are not aware of these,’’ he said.
Obimuyiwa claimed that that DStv had also a listed a local television channel as its free-to –air channel as stipulated by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
“By the NBC provision, a digital TV station is supposed to leave one local TV as its free-to-air channel, and DStv’s free to air is NTA,” he said. (NAN)

Conscience is simply the term we give to the intangible resource that governs our morality. It neither require faith nor some sort of religious belief init, to determine where one stands on issues like dis. Infact, it's got nothing, exclusively, to do with religion.
So, dont equate it to a debate of the existence of a God owing to a lack of tangible evidence; from the Atheist perspective.

ifenes:
You do realize that Atheism is anti-existence of a creator god. And free thinking is the ability to think without belief system blocking your level of thoughts.I would personally say free thoughts is formed based on personal opinion, logic and reasoning. What is not Free-thinking is thoughts formed based on religion, tradition and culture or political views.

You are right in a way that Atheism is not free thinking. Well, many atheist I have had met on nairaland are still subjected to traditional, authorities and political views, hence not really free thinkers. But an Atheist is more likely to have more free thoughts on general issues.

Regarding religion, free thinkers think there isn't enough evidence to support the existence of a god.Blind faith is a no no because it is subjected to respecting authorities like;parental views, community views on god.

Event scientifically, some people have no proof themselves but are subjected to the scientific books. I personally do not agree with 50% of what science books say. Why? Because I reason with every bit of information most times.

My views on Homosexuality is the same. Is it possible for someone to be gay? If you ask 10 Christians, they will most likely say No,Atheists may give a mixed view, some negative due to Traditional influence or family, while a true free thinker will say yes.

Another question is the rights of women. you will find lots of Atheist basing their decision of women being 2nd class to a man due to Cultural/traditional reasons. Basically means free thinkers ain't that much. But one thing is right,A true christian is no free thinker.
I quite agree with a substantial part of ur Post, Buh for clarity sakes..I'd like to point out somewhere u might av gone off-course.
The fact that I reasoned out and scrutinised some political, traditional or religious views and be subjected to some of them doesn't take away the virtue of free thinking from me..it's the process by which I arrived at my Conclusion at dat given point in time dat makes me a freethinker, not my conformity to any primordial belief of some sort; that wud be happenstance.
Freethinking doesn't necessarily av to derive alien views always..it only separates dogma from reasoning. Definitely, not every law set in times past came out of dogma and freethinkers av always existed sinx time immemorial.
I noticed we all in dis thread tend to juxtapose Atheism and free thought to educe some contrast Btw both. I fink that's where misconceptions stem from.
Atheists, skeptics, deists, gnostics, agnostics etc. are all affixed to perspectives to issues that bothers on religion. However, freethinking, relatively, encompasses all aforementioned(even on any subject at that), provided the thought process is free of dogma.
An atheist can almost always be a freethinker, but a freethinker don't need to be an atheist. He can be anybody but a religionist.

I beg to disagree, in the hope that you might make your argument more aptly put. For I think that when 'arriving at a conclusion' becomes more important than arriving at a 'universally verifiable truth', an atheist becomes no different from a theist, who supplants absence of explanation with the most convenient fiction available to him.

Answers are simply not available now. It doesn't mean they wouldn't be available later. Every free thinker is supposed to leave a room in their minds for the possibility that there might be a God of sorts somewhere, since it has not been proven that there isnt one. Now, the existence or not of this God, the nature of this God, his reasons, and capabilities, are to be determined by further questioning and research. Not denial or hasty conclusions!
1. Every individual, irrespective of their thought form nd world-view, leaves a room in their minds for possibility of the contrary..this is by default..aw big dis room is determines the concreteness of the evidence needed to proselytize him/her. So don't attack atheists as such cause they refuse to accept what u bliv
2. Sufficient Answers are not available now and may never be available..but, before that answer bcums available(if it will), a perspective needs be held onto..for the sake of further research..
u cnt mk further studies on something if u don't av a perspective to it beforehand which wud either be reinforced or quashed upon the advancement of such research... So if atheists, by their perceptivity bliv as of then and now, amidst countless researches, that thrz no God, so be it..until whatever evidence dey need is supplied..
Now, their wanting of that sufficient evidence is the room dey av in their minds for anything contrary to their current conclusions..when d evidence comes(as it has always been coming)..it goes into that room in their minds for examination before its being dismissed or accepted therein..
3. If u say Atheists are not freethinkers, u v simply accused dem of zealotry.. It's religion dat promotes dat.. Not atheism...
Atheism gives u a mind of ur own(and arrive at conclusions based on observation)..religion doesn't necessarily gv u a mind of urs unless u take it by force of reasoning.
4. A universally verifiable truth is an illusion as far as religion is concerned..until every human see life from d same window..which is 100% impossible..well, unless God comes in person or spirit to end all doubt and get mankind convinced irrefutably..
This is what the atheists earnestly want..dey seek undeniable truth.
5. If we see it as inept to dismiss something for lack of evidence, is it not more inept to admit something wen thrz zero evidence?
It's even the most inept when one has no perspective whatsoever irrespective of its authenticity
