The world was mocking him, “What are you doing Noah? You’re crazy Noah!” Etc... Noah was being ridiculed and laughed at, but he just kept on building.’ As we all all know The problem is that you won’t find this anywhere in the Bible – not a whiff. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that Noah was mocked. In fact, if you consider Jesus’ words about Noah, this was likely not the case at all: Matthew 24:37 As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, 39 and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. The fact of the matter is that the people of Noah’s day didn’t realize what was happening. They were too busy with other things to really care even if they did. That’s the point of Christ’s words. And so it goes with the ungodly. They continue not to care. -------------- SAUL DIDN'T CHANGE HIS NAME TO PAUL AFTER ACCEPTING CHRIST Relax sir/Ma'am! Yea! U read right! Where these misconceptions come from still baffles me. Saul had always bore the name "paul". This is unequivocally expressed in Acts 13:9. Incidentally, that was where the name was first mentioned in the bible. It seems to have been fairly typical for first-century Jews to have more than one name. Other New Testament examples include: · "Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus)" (Acts 1:23); · "Tabitha (which, when translated, is Dorcas)" (Acts 9:36); · "John, also called Mark" (Acts 12:12); · Paul's companion Silas (Acts 15-18), who is also known as Silvanus (2 Cor 1:19; 1 Thes 1:1; 2 Thes 1:1). ----------------- GOD NEVER CHANGED SAUL's NAME TO PAUL Well, the bible you and I read(except u got another one aside dis) never mentioned anywhere that this happened. You can refer to Acts 13:9 for clarity as well. If I may add; that name "paul" actually means "shorty OR small". This information raises an interesting question about the use of Saul's two names in the book of Acts. Luke, the author of Acts, refers to Saul of Tarsus as "Saul" until Acts 13:9, then shifts to "Paul" for the remainder of the book. (This is one source of the misconception about Saul having a "name change" .Why doesn't Luke simply stick with one of the two names throughout the book, as he did in the case of Silas? Well, Only Luke(the acclaimed author of Acts), knows. ------------------- ----------------------------- P.S: Opposing views are welcomed. Atleast open your bible and read thoroughly(and understand in context) before coming forward with a debate we can learn from. |

Take, for instance, a very unique name mixed with a very unique girl; the name clearly embodies the girl’s personality. Anyone that meets her would not be surprised in the least that this name was given to this girl. That her personality mirrored the true aspects and uniqueness of her name. Imagine, *a comely and chaste girl with the name Mary, Ruth or Naomi *A snubbish and promiscuous lady with the name Jezebel What about a more common name for a more common boy? He is normal and has a very normal name. His personality, like the unique girl’s case, fits so perfectly with his name that it’s no wonder he bears such name. Like, *A world record sprinter named Usain bolt *A power-hungry and ambitious child named Herod or Pharoah Atimes, when meeting a person, usually the name of the person fits that personality and appearance. The name truly embodies the person who possesses it. You might know the actual Meaning of the name yet, but you just have this impression that this name carries an aura that perfectly fits this person, just as in the examples aforestated above. But what about people with names that really don’t fit them physically or emotionally? If the idea of the name affecting the personality was true, why isn’t this sort of person also affected by their name? Imagine, *a weakling going by the name Samson *an atheist man named Moses When picking names, what’s the most important part of the process? The parents. This may seem a bit shallow, as the name is made for the child, but it’s true. A parent isn’t going to name their child something they consider “unattractive” or downright “unfit.” Therefore, the parents are picking a name they find personally attractive. It not only embodies their ideology of a perfect child, but it fits their family. Children grow up creating their personality, true, but parents have a huge impact on the person their child becomes and if it'll relate to the his/her name or not. Because of this, the child may be similar to their parents and this causes the name of the person to fit “perfectly.” A unique mother picking a unique name for her child will more than likely create a unique girl, not because of the name but because the mother. Of course, not all children end up like their parents. Wouldn’t this then explain the name not fitting the child? If the personality of both of the parents and child are extremely different, the name might not necessarily fit the child. So, do names affect your personality? Perhaps, but more than likely not. More than likely, it’s because of the family, not the name, that helps create the personality of the child. ------------------------- DOES YOUR NAME AFFECT YOUR PERSONALITY? Many of you might be thinking the answer is blatantly obvious, that yes, of course, names influence personalty, but does it really? Is it solely the name which you’ve been given that determines your personality, or is it the society that you grew up in? |

This is one grossly misconcieved part of the bible, we, christians have flung out of context... The issue is most of us read a single bible verse nd rigidly take it literally for what twe want it to mean. Moreover, a true Biblical principle should be based on a systematic theology, by looking at it from the big picture, not an isolated verse. Wanted to raise this issue in this section sometime back, just changed my mind. Dunno if it had been raised b4 and dealt accordingly. I'm only being selective in my battles. Salvation dey say, is personal tho. OP...it's a sin to judge.......that's what religious fanatics promote..but no..!! There's more to it than that |
