Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II says there are no more witches in Ile-Ife. The Ooni said this while receiving members of an ile-ife socio-cultural group known as Ife Klub 1 in his palace yesterday March 6th. He said sons and daughters of Ile-Ife who have hitherto been scared of investing in their hometown over fear of witches and wizards destroying their investments, should not entertain such fears again as there are no more witches in the town: “This Klub worked with my last two predecessors and is now working with me, so by the grace of God it will never disintegrate. I must stress to you all that the wellbeing of Ile-ife is paramount to me because we are like the proverbial white chicken who doesn’t appreciate its value. Whereas, it is in its home that the chicken is not highly regarded, it is highly valued abroad. God himself resides in Ile-Ife and that is the truth. There are many Ife sons and daughters who the land has blessed but they abandon their roots. They say there are witches in Ile-Ife that kill children, or that if they establish businesses at home, witches won’t allow them to prosper. There are no witches here that will disturb anybody anymore. They now want to have money and send their children to school too.” The monarch appealed to his people to contribute towards the development of the kingdom, saying he is putting in his best to ensure that Ile-Ife becomes a leading tourist destination. "Some are making money in Ife, yet they don’t contribute anything to its development, rather they take their monies to Ibadan, Ilesha, Lagos, London and America. The Almighty has restored Ile-Ife’s glory and we must not let it go dim. So many people of Ife origin have refused to come back home and this is why we are making concerted efforts to put many things in place to attract them"he said http://www.newshelm.com/2016/03/no-more-witches-in-ile-ife-ooni-of-ife.html cc lalasticlala |

Below is a press statement from Ibori's media office... Chief James Onanaefe Ibori’s defence lawyers shocked the Southwark Court, London on Wednesday 10th February 2016, when they adduced evidence before Judge Tomlinson of a conspiracy between Nigeria and Britain to railroad Ibori and his associates into jail. Mr. Tony Eluemunor, Head of Ibori Media Office, said in a press statement that that evidence was the highlight of Wednesday’s court proceedings which was delayed for hours because the London Metropolitan Police and the Crown Prosecution Service, suddenly turned lukewarm and refused to appear in court for the day’s hearing. A thoroughly disappointed Judge Tomlinson refused to adjourn hearing to another day but issued an order by 12.30 pm that the Prosecution should be in court by 2pm as the matter at hand, professional misconduct, dishonesty, perverting the course of justice and criminal non-disclosures, lying to the trial court and Court of Appeal, were serious and urgent. This time, the hunters have become the hunted and Ibori’s defence team were the accusers while Ibori’s erstwhile accusers and prosecutors were the accused. Pointedly, two prosecutors; Sasha Wass and Esther Schutzer-Weissmann were not only at the end of finger-pointing, and have been dismissed from the Ibori case, their activities are now being challenged in court for grounds on which to upturn all the convictions – Ibori’s and his associates’. In fact, all the prosecution lawyers plus the entire police officers that have represented the British Police have been dismissed from the Iboir case and all other cases stemming from it – following allegations of corruption against them; lies and deliberate misleading of the court. Yet, the worst charge so far against the British prosecution came when the court resumed by 2 pm as counsel to Ibori’s former lawyer, Badresh Gohil, dropped the bombshell. The Counsel, Mr. Kamish, stunned the court when he revealed a sinister conspiracy between Nigeria and Britain to railroad Ibori and associates into jail. He backed this up by pointing at a document signed by British and Nigerian governments agreeing that the Department for International Development will be paid 25 million Pounds Sterling from monies that will be confiscated from Ibori, before any penny is ever remitted to Nigeria. With that document in place, that Department became so aggressive as to start paying the salaries of some police investigators on the Ibori case, especially that of Dectective Constable, John McDonald. Wednesday’s hearing was at the request of Ibori’s lawyers for the prosecution to explain their non-compliance with court orders made to ensure fair as opposed to unfair trial. Mr. Kenneth Talbot represented Ibori while Kamish stood for Gohil. The case was adjourned to 8th March 2016, to enable the Prosecution appoint new counsels as the old ones that have handled the Ibori case since the beginning have now been tainted and dropped and may be facing investigations of corruption and legal perversity. Signed: Tony Eluemunor Head, Ibori Media Office http://www.metronaija.com/2016/02/james-iboris-lawyers-shock-southwark.html |
Kaduna magistrate court, yesterday, February 10, detained 189 Shiite Muslims following the Zaria massacre in December last year for allegedly possessing illegal firearms. Already a 13-man Judicial Commission of Inquiry had been set up by the Kaduna State Government to unravel the circumstances surrounding the cause of the clash. Senior Advocate of Nigeria and one of the most respected lawyers in Nigeria, Ricky Tarfa, was reportedly arrested by the EFCC yesterday evening Friday Feb. 5th at the premises of the Lagos High Court in Igbosere, Lagos Island, for alleged obstruction of justice. EFCC Spokesman Wilson Uwujaren, who confirmed the arrest to Channels TV, said Mr. Tarfa was arrested for allegedly trying to prevent the anti-graft agency from arresting his clients, a Beninois national, Granhoue Sourou Nazaire and his Nigerian lawyer, who were on trial for offenses bordering on forgery and conspiracy. The accused, who were already on bail, appeared in court yesterday and when EFCC tried to re-arrest them, their lawyer, Ricky tried to prevent it. If you had been thinking that rail travel is dead and buried in Nigeria, then you got another thought coming because that is not true – not with the current drive of the federal government to resuscitate rail transportation throughout the length and breadth of the country; and then, we’re talking of super-fast rail systems as you see in developed countries, not the slow and rickety rail-trains you’d always known. Whatever, Lagos State is one among many states in Nigeria working hard to bring back the glory of the rail transport system, and to necessitate dependence of rail travel as it used to be in decades gone by. But still talking of Lagos, let us examine the places you can visit through a rail transport from Lagos, and those places in Nigeria that have a direct rail transport to Lagos. Rail travel from Lagos to other parts of Nigeria · From Ebute-Meta to Kano – In November 2014, the federal government resuscitated the transportation of petroleum products from Lagos to Kano, and a train with 20 wagons carrying 900,000 litres of petroleum products (equivalent to 27 road tankers) left Lagos for Kano. Over 30 tankers of diesel left Ebute-Meta via trains to Kaduna this same month. But this is not limited to cargo trains alone, numerous passenger trains have been leaving Lagos to Kano and Kaduna among other northern destinations. On the trip to Kano, it is estimated that the train might stop at major terminals at Abeokuta, Ibadan, Osogbo, Ilorin, Minna, and Kaduna before arriving Kano. · From Lagos to Jebba – The Lagos-Jebba train trip is also now perfected to allow passengers to move from Lagos to Jebba in Niger State via train travel. A lot of traders dealing in physical goods will like this because there is a lot of space to pack goods within a train from Lagos to Niger State in the northern part of the country, from where passengers could easily get into Abuja. Rail travel from other parts of the country to Lagos · From Kaduna to Lagos – It is possible to travel from various parts of northern Nigeria to Lagos, the most commercialized city in the country. When taking off from the Kaduna Railway Station to Lagos, the journey by train lasts approximately 650 minutes – or 10 hours and 50 minutes, but it might be something you’d enjoy if you could make the most of your time on the trip. · From Abuja to Lagos – If you are in Abuja the FCT, you can easily board a train on a direct trip to Lagos without any hassles because the federal government has made it possible for passengers to embark on such trips from the Nigerian capital. · Lagos to Port-Harcourt – You can take a train trip from Lagos to Port-Harcourt and some other eastern parts of Nigeria such as Enugu and Aba and beyond. Traders from the eastern part of the country coming into Lagos with lots of commercial goods can come by train if they wish to without much difficulties. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/02/places-you-can-travel-tofrom-by-rail-to.html cc: lalasticlala |

Jonathan said this while speaking at a ceremony organized by International diplomats, the Cercle Diplomatique, based in Geneva last week. “I am former president and I cannot throw myself on the new government. It depends on the assignment the current president decides to give me and also depends on if I have the capacity to carry out such assignment. He is our president and can decide to send people on assignments based on national interests. When I was in office, I used to give assignments to former presidents and that is how it has always been. The Rivers State Government has approved January 27 every year as a public holiday to mark the survival of the state from the forces of political conspiracy who attempted to subvert the mandate of the people. The Supreme Court delivered her judgment validating Governor Wike’s election on January 27, 2015. Also on Tuesday, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike reiterated his warning to those planning to rig the rerun elections in Rivers state, noting that they will be treated as armed robbers by the people. Addressing thousands of civil servants at the State Civil Service Secretariat in Port Harcourt , Governor Wike said that the public holiday signifies God's intervention in the affairs of Rivers State. He said: "Every January 27 will be observed as a public holiday in this state because that is the day God came down to save Rivers State. What people must understand is that power comes from God. We know God speaks last and he has spoken". The governor also announced that Friday February 5, will be observed as a public holiday to enable all Rivers people prepare for the rerun elections. Governor Wike urged the civil servants and other Rivers people to ensure they vote for PDP candidates in the re-run elections to promote harmony in governance and sustain the development agenda of the state government. He pointed out that the defeated APC in the State plans to use the rerun elections to enter the political arena through the window having been shut out by the people and the Supreme Court. Governor Wike said: "When someone cannot come through the door, he may want to come through the window. Rivers people must not allow them. Our people must stop them from entering through the window to obstruct the good works of this administration ". Speaking further on the rerun elections, Governor Wike said that the will of the Rivers people will prevail, adding that the use of security forces and other electoral officials to rig the process will fail woefully. According to him, the people believe in the transformational leadership of the PDP, stressing that it was exhibited in Bayelsa State, where the use of force by security agents failed to deliver electoral victory. He said: "Anyone who plans to rig an election is an armed robber and should be treated as such. If you are coming to rig an election in the state, first prepare your will before embarking on the journey. Inform your wife or husband and go ahead to say your last prayer. "When they used the security forces in Bayelsa State, it didn't work. It will also not work here in Rivers State. Rivers State is a peaceful state and our people are peace loving. We want to remain so". The governor assured civil servants and pensioners that his administration will continue to pay their salaries and pensions. He said all welfare issues will be given top priority. He, however, stated that steps will be taken by the administration to verify the actual number of civil servants and pensioners to stop payment to non-existent beneficiaries. The governor added that the administration will work out modalities to improve the state’s internally generated revenue. Earlier, Head of the State Civil Service, Barrister Rufus Godwins commended the governor for being up to date in the payment of salaries and pensions. He assured the governor of the loyalty of the workers. Following claims by the present administration that former president ,Goodluck Jonathan's administration negotiated with fake Boko Haram members,Jonathan has rubbished those claims.Speaking recently the press centre of the Cercle DIPLOMATIC in Geneva,he said We did not negotiate with fake Boko Haram. I agree that within that period, especially whenever there was a problem, people volunteered all manner of assistance. It is just like what, my successor, President Buhari said in a recent media chat that if his government gets credible leaders of the sect, they would be willing to discuss with them. People will come to you with all kinds of names. But my government never set up a team to negotiate with Boko Haram. We found out that the activities of the terrorists were coming from a section of the country, the North East, and they were more active in two states, Borno and Yobe. There was never a time we negotiated with Boko Haram. I think this whole idea is all politics. The world over, people do and say all kinds of things in the name of politics. But then it is wrong for people to play politics with very serious national issues. The only group we negotiated with which started when I was a deputy governor was the militants in an area called the Niger Delta. I believe that if we had negotiated with Boko Haram, we would have come out with an action programme in that regard. When we negotiated with Niger Delta militants, we were able to do that because you could identify them and they had a clear position on all the issues. In that case we were able to come out with what we called the amnesty programme which brought about the end of militancy in that part of our country where crude oil is being produced. We asked the militants to surrender their weapons in exchange for their rehabilitation. We engaged them with relevant training and placed many of them on a monthly allowance. Some of them were trained outside Nigeria and some were encouraged to set up businesses and so on. For a negotiation to take place there should be certain expectations from both sides. We just couldn’t negotiate with the terrorists because such expectations could not be established. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/02/i-didnt-negotiate-with-fake-boko-haram.html cc: lalasticlala |

The market was gutted by fire last night and three almajiris who sleep in the shops reportedly burnt beyond recognition. The governor expressed his sympathy and affirms government's commitment towards rebuilding the razed market. "It is most unfortunate that we continue to have this incident. What is sad for me, is not just the loss of property in this case, but the fact that the fire fighting equipment could not get in and reduce the losses because of the way and manner the market itself was designed. We already have plans for this market; we have plans to build a modern neighborhood centre across the railway line and relocate them" Malam further assured that the leadership of the market and state officials will sit to assess the situation and bring a report to the government for further actions. The deceased, a wheelbarrow pusher, was said to have suffered high degree burns and was confirmed dead by doctors at Ajisafe Hospital, Omu-Aran, where he was rushed to by the police on Friday. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that doctors at the hospital battled to save his life as the fire affected most parts of his body. The deceased was said to have been accused of stealing an undisclosed amount of money from some roadside beggars on Friday and was apprehended and handed over to his father. The father, a commercial driver, allegedly drove his son to a nearby bush on Omu-Aran-Isanlu-Isin road, tied his hands and legs before setting him ablaze. Sola, who was still alive when he was rescued, told his rescuers that his father was responsible for the act. The mother of the deceased, Rachael, was seen crying in the hospital after the death of her son was broken to her. The mother, who is a trader based in Odo-Owa, another suburb, told NAN that a friend had notified her of the development on phone before she rushed to the hospital to check on her son. The mother, who acknowledged that Sola was an unrepentant troublesome fellow, however, expressed shock at the father’s action. She disclosed that although she gave birth few weeks ago, she had divorced Kehinde about seven years ago as a result of irreconcilable differences. Mr Ajayi Okasanmi, the Police Public Relation Officer in the state, confirmed the incident, saying that the suspect was already in police custody and that investigation was ongoing. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/01/photo-22-year-old-man-set-ablaze-by.html cc: lalasticlala |
