You're funny. You will find that your folk are sending emissaries to the FG on the inviolability of one Nigeria, it was decided just a couple of days ago. But una no de read! embarassed
Those who sent emissaries are the practical ones, while dreamers like you make up fantasy stuff to post on the web, its funny.

Like I said, no govt has the right to bulldoze poor peoples accommodation without rehousing them. That is just wicked.
Emissaries? The people that are PDP that need their positions back? The fact remains SW is still a part of Nigeria. And has every right to participate in their government. What about your principals flying private jet in the middle of the night to ensure they steal the votes of the SW? So they shall be compensated for being shallow at the presidential level. Really, you shouldnt surface when these types of arguments come up. You put incompetence in the spotlight and it is not good for your salary.
My point is that oil economy is still based very much on Oil and I do not want to lie to you that it is not. Yorubaland has Oil and not based on baylsea state or rivers state crude oil but based on pro-yoruba groups like the itsekiri and ilaje who own 75% of the oil land in delta state which is the largest oil producing state.

Beaf is turning this into a Niger-delta struggle and I do not want you to fall for his trap.

@TOPIC

The Hausa or any other group be it yoruba or igbos have NO RIGHT TO ATTACK THE AUTHORITY NO MATTER THE SITUATION.

this is my take.
Look here, if oil makes your whole life and you are satisfied with Nigeria as it is. Then fine, you are entitled to your opinion. The fact remains Lagos will survive without oil. Lagos has almost the same population as London and New York, but is given this "stipend" to carry the weight of the country. If they take measures to make life comfortable, people will come out and criticize. Even the roads that the FG builds is not strong or durable enough for the human traffic, this is why the roads spoil again in a few months. If someone is trying to restore law and order it should be supported. Again, you and your families survival may depend solely on oil, but mine doesnt and never has. The government hardly affects the common man in any way, so what oil are we screaming here? The fact is Lagos will not collapse without oil. Please take your oil, if it will make the state become great again.

The truth is bitter. I guess that is why you are so angry and turning uncivil, Lol
Dude, the long and short is that oil is the only economic driver in Nigeria and that includes the far-fetched dreams island you have in mind.

As long as the FG is dutifully giving states a monthly stipend, those states MUST see to the human rights of every single individual within their borders and not go bulldozing the homes of the poor in some short-sighted display of wicked arrogance that will only drive the homeless into armed robbery and other crimes.
Well dont come here and moan when the states are doing what they can with the little "stipend" the useless FG is giving them. Until then you can feel free to go somewhere else with your argument. When Nigeria divides though, we will see how far your oil will take you and the heaven it will create. Is it not the same elements today in Nigeria that are going to be in your 4x4 location? hahahaha. It will be a very interesting country.

So what is the duty of state governors, are they just glorified beggars that collect monthly upkeep from Abuja and do nothing? Your reasoning is wishy-washy my brother.

As for the Dangote's and Ibru's moving into Lagos, they only did so because the FG created opportunities in Lagos, not because any governor did. You dream of Lagos being a country? What do you think will happen the moment it declares independence? I will give you a few pointers:
[li]All oil coy's will relocate their headquarters to the oil producing regions[/li]
[li]All banks will follow the oil coys[/li]
[li]Insurance coys will follow the banks and oil coys[/li]
[li]Manufacturers will follow the money[/li]
[li]Traders will follow the money[/li]
[li]The population will follow the money[/li]
[li]Markets at Idumota, Idumagbo, Balogun, Alaba etc will quickly dry up[/li]
Lagos, like the rest of Nigeria, is 100% sustained by oil and dependent on the FG. But you can keep dreaming unrealistic stuff that has no basis in reality. What sources of employment will keep such a country going?

The long and short of the argument is that the FG is doing enough to keep Lagos alive, so Lagos in turn should do enough to keep its population happy and their human rights sacred. It shouldn't go around bulldozing the homes of the poor in a wicked display of arrogance.
Look let them move. Oil is a curse, they can go. Dangote especially. The whole of Nigeria will profit from it. Let them go and free up Lagos. We want it to dry up patapata. Dont worry about us, just go and carry your Ibru and Dangote away including your oil curse so that we can wall the whole place. hahahha, the oil thieves will kill themselves in a year. Majority of the banks are owned by Yoruba's. SO please just move away. In case you are uneducated there are different kinds of banks. And there are so many industries that will be created that will make your oil industry look like shit. Food industry is far more lucrative than oil. Most countries without oil are far richer than dull Nigeria with oil. So pack your mumu oil and go make una go kill una self. They moved the NLNG na abi? Did Lagos collapse? Instead i still see bus loads of your urhobo people moving in daily.  Tell the FG to do their job. I know you are trying to bring Fashola down pre 2015, but it cannot work. Tell your principals to start working. Oil, oil, oil. If oil was so great today i wonder why they are scrambling to deregulate it. Is it not becoming a cheap comodity around the world now. I am sure the SW can even import oil at a cheaper rate that Nigeria would. In case you dont know Angola and Cameroon have oil. So please pack your dirty oil and go. tongue

What more do you want the FG to do for Lagos, bath the governor and brush his teeth? Every state already get tonnes of undeserved money from Abuja, IMHO that is more than enough.
The FG on its own has shown love for the common man by being the first govt ever to ship Nigerians out of the troubled zones of the World; that is caring.

As for your anger about "everybody" moving to Lagos; you might not realise it, but Lagos will quickly collapse without the rest of Nigeria. It is not an island. One important thing to note is that almost all of Lagos IGR comes from increased tax collection, not increased employment and wealth creation. In other words, Lagos like the rest of Nigeria is kept artificially alive by injections of money from Abuja. What country can survive by collecting taxes without generating wealth and employment?
The richest people and greatest employers in Lagos today are not Lagosians, but outsiders; the Dangote's and Ibru's etc. So please stuff that "everybody coming to Lagos" line, its a trash argument meant for the intellectually laboured.
Your question is what is the FG doing for Nigeria as a whole? NOTHING! So dont bring rich and poor bullshit. Until we are in a federalism the FG is solely responsible for the welfare of Nigerians. If Lagos did not create opportunities people will not move there. As for your Dangote and Ibru bullshit, before they moved to Lagos, Lagos was great. They also moved for the opportunity. If they move away, no shaking no one will even notice. All the better, monopoly will stop and industries will spring up. More people will be employed. The SW has people that will take over immediately. Let them clear the Fuc8k off. They need Lagos, Lagos does not need. them. Open your yeye mouth and call Ibru that cannot run a bank. GTB is probably a bigger employer bank wise, so what the trash do you have up there? Plain and simple, do not erect illegal structure if you dont want to be homeless. There are laws. Get an accommodation and share. If the city is too expensive, move away. The FG is responsible for all Nigerians not the state of Lagos. If Nigeria should break away without Lagos as a country even better!!! We pray for the day it will happen. lol. See this one boasting.hahahahah. Lagos is in a much better position to even be a country. Dont tell your principals to start working instead of stealing. Dey dere dey spin nonsense.

I dont know whether to laugh or to be sarcastic. So everybody should now move to Lagos, and Lagos should bear the burden of the whole Nigeria? Let them move to port harcourt, delta or cross river now where Nigeria's riches are to chop from the allocation. Wetin concern agbero with overload. If you dont want to be homeless, dont create illegal structures. You can squat with people or rent houses with people in a share. There is no excuse to constitute a nuisance. These cattle sellers have the money to build or rent. If they created an illegal abbatoir it should be removed. For some reason everyone thinks there is money in Lagos. Look at welcome to Lagos, they are comfortable at home but move to Lagos to become a nuisance. Kudo's to fashola, keep clearing them away until the abide by the laws. There are landlords all over the place with open rentals. Get 5 people to put money together and rent a house if possible. Dont constitute a nuisance. The waterways should be next. 13yr old manipulated in grandmother’s death

A 13-year old boy, Nnadozie Dickson, has been manipulated in the death of his 80-year old grandmother, Magdalene Ezeanowane,
an incident which occurred on August 23, this year in Ikotun, Lagos State.

Nnadozie, who admitted that he conspired with a domestic cleaner, Augustine Ukwoma, 31, to rob the woman, said he did not have any intention of killing her. According to him, on that fateful day, Augustine had given him some drugs, which he said were sleeping tablets, to put in the old woman’s cup of tea, so as to make her sleep and enable the cleaner to rob her without any hindrance.

SATURDAY PUNCH learnt that it was while spending the last holidays with his aunt, Mrs. Chinyere Umekwe and her family, with whom his late grandmother was living, that the incident occurred.

Narrating the circumstances surrounding the death of the old woman, a source said that the Umekwes had just packed into the neighbourhood.

The late woman’s daughter, who incidentally is a younger sister of Nnadozie’s father, Mr. Theophilus Ezeanowane, was out of the country on an official trip to Ethiopia, and had left Nnadozie and her two little children in their grandmother’s care, as her husband was based outside Nigeria.

The source said that Ukwoma, who had been staying in the same building for two weeks before the incident, was hired by the landlord to clean the compound.

After Ukwoma learnt that the old woman’s daughter had travelled and her husband was abroad, he called Nnadozie to inquire if there was any hard currency in the house. The young boy naively informed him that indeed, there was a sum of N150,000 in the house and also told him where it was kept.

Ukwoma then promised to give Nnadozie some of the money if the boy could assist him in stealing the money from the old woman.

He allegedly gave Nnadozie some drugs, which he said were sleeping tablets, to be dropped in the old woman’s tea.

Nnadozie, after giving his grandmother the drugged tea, noticed that rather than sleeping, the woman started coughing repeatedly and dangerously.

Panicking, the young boy subsequently called Ukwoma to inform him of the development.

Not wanting to lose the money in the event that the old woman dies, Ukwoma asked the boy to go and play with his little cousins, who were playing downstairs, after promising to take care of the boy’s grandmother.

Nnadozie had gone back to the flat with his aunt’s six-year old son when the two children saw Ukwoma trying to suffocate their grandmother with a pillow. They then ran downstairs to the landlord’s flat to inform him.

An eyewitness, identified simply as Chuka, said Ukwoma was apprehended by the neighbours. After taking the old woman to the hospital, the landlord reported the case at Ikotun Police Station.

The old woman, it was learnt, later died as a result of the complications she developed after the incident. Her son, Ndubuisi, later reported the case at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, where ukwoma is being detained.

However, Nnadozie was released to go home with his father, but must report to the SCID whenever the need arises.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, confirmed the incident, saying that the domestic cleaner was currently in police custody.

Because majority of them are dull. Their brains have not yet evolved and can be likened to that of a child or homo erectus. Just show an African a shiny thing and tell them if is worth something, they can spend any amount to get it. They dont have the capacity for analyzing and solving problems. I think it can be mostly blamed on lack of exposure or not being in a position where you are required to act rationally. They lack self control. Business › Naira Drops to N200 To A US Dollar by 2mch(op): 3:14pm On Oct 08, 2011
Naira heads for 200 to US dollar
By Bosede Olusola-Obasa
Saturday, 8 Oct 2011

Entrepreneurs, salary earners and housewives should brace for greater pressure on their budgets, as the naira continues to experience a free fall when paired with the United States dollar.

Some financial and economic analysts drew this conclusion in separate interviews with SATURDAY PUNCH on Friday while weighing the implications of the ongoing currency devaluation for the ‘ordinary’ citizen.

The naira has consistently weakened on strong demands for the foreign exchange, which only receives limited supply.

A week-long assessment showed that the naira closed on September 28, at N158.45 to the US dollar on the inter-bank market; but recorded an all-time low of N159.75 to the dollar at the close of activities on September 29.

As at October 6, the naira had fallen to a new record low of N164.85 to the US dollar.

Financial analysts have said that if the naira maintained the current rate of devaluation, it would exchange at between N180 and N200 to the US dollar by the end of 2011.

A financial analyst, Mr. Ola Ogedengbe, said that as long as the Nigerian government failed to strengthen the real sector of the economy through the provision of energy, tightening the borders and granting friendly duties on importation of raw materials for manufacturers, the economy would not be healthy.

He said the behaviour of the naira was a replica of the weakness and instability of Nigeria’s economy.

Ogedengbe said, “There is no way the naira would not depreciate. The problem is primary. The real sector is not working. We import substandard versions of things manufacturers strive to produce locally, thus destroying the market for them.

“As the naira falls, importers of all categories will require more volume for foreign exchange. If the Central Bank of Nigeria allows the depreciation as it is now, N180 to N200 is in view.

“The consumer then bears the brunt, because the difference in the cost of doing business is ultimately passed on to them. Prices of goods and services will definitely go up because people are in business to make money. Even people who send children to study abroad will pay more. Whichever way, Nigerians will be the losers.”

Another financial analyst and stockbroker, Mr. Jire Oyewale, said that for a long time, it had been difficult to measure the real effect of economic policies on the economy and the capital market.

He said that even if this were to be an official move to devalue and stabilise the currency, the usual problem of policy inconsistency might soon rubbish it as measures would soon be taken to check it.

Oyewale said the current trend might further plunge the naira to N200 to the US dollar. If this is done, he added that it would erode the value of salaries earned; even the N18,000 minimum wage, as prices of goods begin to skyrocket.

He said, “We expect that if petroleum subsidy is removed, the government should redirect the funds to other sectors to assuage economic hardship, but what you find is that the money is taken overseas. People that matter are not interested in growing this economy; that is why it is so weak.

“We don’t even need foreign investors as much as people make it appear because so much can be achieved with good, consistent and committed economic policy directions. My position is that if the end does not justify the means, CBN policies are a mere rhetoric.

“The prices of goods will further go up because we do not operate a closed economy. As long as people can pay the required duties, they are free to import just anything into Nigeria, how then do the local manufacturers survive?”

Fuel subsidy removal battle: FG releases millions for pro-deregulation campaign

Amid the widespread condemnation of the proposed removal of petroleum products subsidies in January 2012, the Federal Government may have started taking steps to counter the envisaged opposition to the policy.

A top government official told SATURDAY PUNCH in Abuja on Friday that the FG had set aside a substantial sum of money for the effective prosecution of the campaign in support of fuel subsidy removal.

He spoke on the condition of anonymity because the FG had not authorised him to make the matter public.

The official said that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation had been instructed to take the necessary steps to gather support for the subsidy removal, which the FG claimed would free up to N1.2tn of public fund that would be used to address the national infrastructure deficit.

The official said that the media unit of the NNPC was expected to work in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance to sell the government’s idea of deregulation and its benefits to the Nigerian public.

However, the source did not specify the exact amount of money said to have been set aside for the promotion of the deregulation campaign in anticipation of the opposition against the policy and its impact on Nigerians.

“Look, the Federal Government is not joking with this issue of deregulation,” the official said. “I can only advise people to support the government on this issue because they have a point,

“The government is convinced that the subsidy is only going into the pockets of some persons who are bent on resisting its removal.

“Already, the government is involved in strategies to ensure that Nigerians are convinced on the issue of the removal of fuel subsidy.

“They have set aside a huge sum of money for the media unit of the NNPC to ensure that the policy is well projected in the media. That is to tell you that these people are not joking.”

The NNPC Group General Manager, Public Affairs, Dr. Levi Ajuonuma, lamented that Nigerians were yet to understand the benefits of deregulation despite the gains such a decision had brought to the country’s telecom sector. He said the deregulation campaign was not a new thing, adding that it was the people’s right to be sensitised on how the removal of petroleum subsidy would benefit them.

He said, “Some people are saying that the refineries should be fixed before the removal of subsidy but the question is, where is the government going to get the money to keep fixing the refineries when it is spending the same money on fuel subsidy?

“Nobody is asking why investors are not coming to put their money into building refineries. The reason is simple, no investor would want to invest in a refinery and at the end of the day someone else comes out to dictate to him how he should sell his product.

“It is important for our people to get this message. If the government can save the subsidy this year alone, can you imagine how many universities will be well funded, how many roads we can build, not to talk of other social infrastructure? We should allow the private sector to come. It’s taking us too long and we all should know that the world is changing.”

Since the FG made known its intention on Tuesday to remove the fuel subsidies from January next year, the announcement has attracted widespread condemnation from a cross-section of the citizenry.

The leadership of the two umbrella labour bodies in the country, the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, and the civil society bodies, have come out hard against the government on the planned move.

The President-General of the TUC, Mr. Peter Esele, and the General-Secretary of the NLC, Mr. Owei Lakemka, described the move as a deliberate act to anger millions of impoverished Nigerians.

The labour leaders and their civil society counterparts have vowed to call out Nigerians en masse to resist the proposed removal, which is likely to lead to an increase in fuel prices.

“The FG has been unable to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians,” Lakemfa said in a telephone interview. “The role of the government is to protect and defend the interest of its citizenry, but this government is not doing that. The government is unable to provide the basic necessities of life,” Lakemfa said.

Is this real or a joke. Now that they have the names of the boys, cant the senate request that the video is cleared up to match their faces with the ones they have identified? If they have identified them, then they should be able to find the girl. This is very wrong and we all should condemn it, may our daughters never experience such a thing and we are unable to get justice because some big man thinks he is above the law. Dont forget that your situation can change tomorrow, and you can find yourself in the position of a less privileged person. Let us do what is right. Why are the other SE states keeping quiet?

Crazy thread. But seriously though, yoruba's are very liberal when it comes to marriage. All children are treated equal in the house. Girls are not seen as property to be given away, even when the parents die they are equally entitled to their father's property. This is not the case with Igbo's.  With Yoruba's even if she is married, she is still a child of her father's house. If you maltreat her the father will take her back. They also keep rooms for all their children in their family houses. This is why when they dont want to collect bride price and tell you to donate bible, you get suspicious. They are telling you that the two families are only coming together, they are not giving anybody away. shocked shocked shocked. I think Yoruba women are far more liberated. cheesy

It has to be done by somebody. There is entirely no planning in Nigeria. You cannot build and setup shops or homes on rail way lines. Or will they prefer the SG send one archaic 1ton train to drive through the settlement? City life is not for everyone. If you cant afford it move to a state where you can. Kudo's to fashola. And please deport that mumu togolese. Imagine? Nonsense upon rabbish tongue. Now to those mumu's that have taken over the whole waterway. Dropping trash and feaces in the water.

We were taught not to believe in juju, but i have seen things. shocked shocked shocked. And now acknowledge that as there is good in humans, there is also evil. I cant remember which part of Lagos it was, but i have seen a bird drop. I didnt see the transformation but some moments later people gathered around a woman that couldnt move and was almost Unclad. Also, i have seen a little girl claiming to be possessed do swimming actions on concrete. shocked shocked shocked. It was very smooth like she was swimming in water. Till today i cannot explain it, but those experiences really stuck. You become confused because you dont know what to believe. All i know is that as there is good, there is also evil out there. Never take anyone on face value. undecided

[s]History is mostly true to the extent of story teller’s recollection. As I referenced in my previous post, most towns in Yoruba land as lately as 1980 were one-road town. Otta was practically a village in 1980. Even Abeokuta was all about one thorough road in and out of the city. I am not even going to mention Oshogbo, Ogbomosho, Ado Ekiti, Ile-Ife or Akure. Badagry was a fisherman village in 1980. Even my lovely Ijebu Ode town was a farmer’s village then.

As for British upland move away from mosquito infested swampy Lagos to Abeokuta, you claimed many number of reasons manifested such move including hostility of Lagosians. I am not surprised you decided to diminish the menace of little creatures. Anyway by 1861, all forms of hostility by inhabitants of Lagos had been swept under the rug by the British forces. Even King Kosoko turned tail and ran as fast as his legs could sustain and I gathered he did not run far.

This guy is a big liar. Is this a mental illness? King Kosoko was exiled to epe. When ddid the british come to Nigeria? They were only successful in 1861, not so? see where the loop holes in your story become evident? Yoruba land comprises of mostly cities. Most people's "villages" are towns. This is not the same with Igbo's. Igbo's lived in hamlets. One road town is even better. More like maneuvering through the jungle in your case. You know absolutely nothing about Yoruba towns. Nothing.loool. The guy tries to sound like an authority in knwoledge but he just lies at every opportunity.
