As much as I sympathise with the parents, whoever was in charge of the boy was VERY careless. I see this happen often. While child would be in company of an adult, they would leave him behind while in front. Just few days ago, I was calling a girl to remind her that a child was with her and why would she leave him behind a few meters away just because she wants to buy something at 5 shops away from where the boy stood. She said I should leave him. Right there where the childstood were so many Northerners and some scary faces. Wetin concern me, after all, the parents handed their kid to the said who is likely a relative or a house help. I just bought what I wanted and went back. as much as I agree with you, not many Nigerians know how to punctuate properly. The content and message should be the most important thing that what punctuation can offer.
