PhonesRe: Android Apps 'leak' Personal Details by 4llerbuntu(m): 7:34pm On Oct 23, 2012
actually its BS, because ALL mobile platforms have this same flaw, android gets audited so easily because its open.

its not an issue with the platform its an issue with the app coders who simply are too lazy to do it right.

this was a big discussion yesterday on the internets and people who work for software security firms confirmed that its common to all platforms, but they could not point fingers because of the no disclosure clauses in their contracts.

bottomline is this things are everywhere, and at least the android ones always gets outed. try that with apple like charlie miller did and see their response

Jencejyde: This was a game where i felt we could have gone into a 4-4-2 somewhere in the second half as it seemed that we were too predictable. i mean, look around, all the top teams change formations and tactics depending on the situation they are faced with.

Norwich looked like they knew exactly how we were gonna play and knew exactly what they had to do over 90 mins...too predictable. A switch in formation or taking off Giroud and making gerv the center forward could not have hurt against a defensively minded Norwich side.

Its gonna get tougher and we will meet so many more of these kinda oppositions and that's where the Manager has gotta earn his money.
@ bolded. nuff said. thankfully some people can still see.

debosky: Time for the manager to earn his paycheck and whip this team back into line.
well sha, i do hope sometime towards the end of this season pple will not come up with the no players, no purchases line. this squad is talented enough to be within 5 points of the league winner, what i'm beginning to doubt is if the management is similarly specced.
PhonesRe: Android, Anyone? Part II by 4llerbuntu(m): 2:46pm On Oct 19, 2012
Important distinction tho.

The only phones that are running "Android" are the Nexus devices,

All other phones are running its own operating system based on Android.

for example Sense, Touchwiz, Blur, etc.

So with that being said those people who care about the very latest version of Android should buy a Nexus and those who don't care about the latest and greatest updates buy the other oem versions.

or if somehow they do, they have the option of installing a custom rom on their phones, most likely CM which is based on the latest version of stock Android.

So the whole fragmentation argument is off the mark and is only made up to make Android look bad

ComputersRe: Windows 8: The Thread by 4llerbuntu(m): 10:26am On Oct 19, 2012
http://arstechnica.com/security/2012/10/experts-windows-8-features-make-account-passwords-easier-to-steal/

New features designed to make it easier to log into Windows 8 accounts allow encrypted passwords to be converted into plaintext in some cases, security researchers said.

The features, which allow people to sign in with a picture-based password and four-digit personal identification number, are intended to provide a less-cumbersome alternative to entering a password each time users want to access their account. Once people have set up a password for an account, they can use pictures or PINs to log in from then on.

But the added convenience comes at a cost. According to security experts who have tested the features in developer pre-releases of the upcoming Microsoft operating system, the features cause Windows 8 to store passwords using encryption that can be reversed. Attackers who gain physical control of a computer as well as administrator access can extract the key that recovers the plaintext password of each account that uses the log-on alternatives. The latest version of Windows Password Recovery, a password-cracking package sold by Russia-based Passcape Software, claims to do just that.

drobadebayo: Android os jst doesnt make sense.cant imagine having to turn on and off d data connection.wat happens to push email?its supposed to be an os for smartphones and tablets naw,hw cme its nt so smart
what happened to your IQ?

did you even read the thread?

the complaints about data consumption is the same on all true smartphones, whether IOS or android

the difference is that these people complaining do not know that:

they have apps that actively download data say every 5 minutes,
their web browsers are capable of loading up full websites that weigh in at Megabytes a page,
That some of their free apps are supported by running adverts and these adverts also consume data,
that a lot of the apps they run are designed to show lots of details and effects that consume data
that doing things like watching youtube videos consume data

etc etc etc.

smartphones are very similar to having full fledged web experience on computers transferred to your mobile device. if you bought 100 mb of data, how long would it last on a pc?

it has nothing to do with push email. push email does not "consume" data at all on any platform.

AND YES, ANY TRUE IOS USER WILL CONFIRM TO YOU THAT DATA IS ALSO CONSUMED ON AN IPHONE! these are not S40 java phones

if you have people in this boat who do not know this things or how to mitigate the effect, one sure way to ease their stress is to toggle off the data!

which is why one shares how to reduce data consumption drastically.

i used to use 200 mb, and now 1gb data monthly effectively, and yes i really use my phones and i don't toggle off data except im saving my battery (which is a bigger concern than all these data noise ur all making sef)

NB: Android is "free" but actually paid for in different ways, ads is a major one.

hunh huh huh huh
lord almighty! dude your pretty older than this shyte. whats up with the BS?

im really getting weaned off NL by crap like this

moonraker: Btw what OS are you using right now?? Let me take a wild guess!!!! Ubuntu and Windows 7?? Well news for you pal,

Windows 8 will be more secure than 7. The worst OS in terms of security is OSX (Personal Experience).
what does my choice of OS have to do with anything?

windows 8 will be more secure because MS has given you a lot of tech geekspeak BS?

have you ever seen a software product launch that did'nt go on overdrive with the hype crap? just because the marketing guys at MS say its so does not make it so.

was win7 not supposed to be the most secure when it was released too? xp, vista? even the OSX you so gallantly demean is marketed as the most secure of all time

like i said, TIME will tell us if truly its the most secure thing since methuselah's cojones.

don't hold your breath tho, as at this morning i have seen software to crack, remove wga, activate, rearm e.t.c all the versions of win8 and its not even official yet.

duh!!

moonraker: Windows 8 The most secure OS??

Read below

http://www.itproportal.com/2012/07/31/will-windows-8-be-the-most-secure-os-in-town/
Hmmn, time, oh sweet time, will tell. i do believe from track records, we know what to expect.

anyway, as an aside, how many exploits have been recorded against a pure BSD or debian install at these "conferences" without having root?
or is the definition of "OS" limited to commercial ones?

anyway, i doubt u need to reboot, just toggle flight mode off and on. its currently an issue with airtel.

ridlaw: @4llerbuntu Pls I just got a samsung galaxy s3 with Android OS, v4.0.4(Ice Cream Sandwich) and wld like to upgrade it to 4.1(Jelly Bean)....pls hw do I upgrade it?
official ROMS are like 2 weeks away (or less). actually some are out but not the global version. u may exercise a little patience. when its out all u need is locate the official ROM on XDA or via google, download it and use ODIN to flash.

else if you are interested in custom roms, XDA is ur one-stop shop. visit the S III forums and knock urself out (if you are not savvy, id recommend you stick to stock ROMS)

the thing is the new JB release and hardware like S3 makes using stock roms a whole lot bearable for the average user

DAvIt0: please guys do you know the tweak to show battery percentage on droid status bar.huh?

@4ller yu b boss for this thang
CYANOGENMOD has this built in. if u run a cm rom, look for the settings

if not, if u want to do it yourself, use the kitchen @ http://uot.dakra.lt/
easiest choice, u have to extract your framework.jar and upload it, pick your mods and apply, then download the zip for flashing. its self explanatory at the site.

or just install battery doctor from the market, it will give u a percentage icon on the status bar, actually therer are lots of apps that do this, but this one has some great features in the app anyway grin grin grin grin grin grin
