coogar: when torres won the golden boot last year, excuses were made for scoring against top sides. he's scoring against bottom sides and people are still criticising him.
you have started revising again grin grin grin.

what was said then was that he bagged the glorious goal scorer award with a paltry 3 goals in a tourney, and actually tied with another player but was given the award based on some useless FIFA rules.

if i remember sef, i think he scored in just 2 games.

who said anything about big sides n small sides?

bruv if a footballer once valued at 50 mill cant score against jobbers like tahiti, then he is better dead than alive.

how scoring against tahiti becomes a reason to pop champagne beats me

Hello folks.

I really could use some help.

The issue basically is that I have a couple of computers on a ring topography network getting internet service off a router.

Now the internet service is metered and the users on this network are murdering the data .

Now I already setup a block lists of blacklisted sites.

But I really need to find some way to limit file download size.

I'd appreciate any ideas in this regard. All iv found is proprietary software that will only make sense on a star topography network with a central server sharing data.

I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty.

Point is, we are not recommending. At least I'm not.

The man already bought the device. He simply came here to inform us after he did.

Like I said..... read above again on why I think etisalat might havr 3G on the device.

Anyways he already bought it. U won't suggest he throws it away? Its not a bad learner phone for someone who does not even know what APN is.
PhonesRe: Android, Anyone? Part II by 4llerbuntu(m): 6:23am On Jun 18, 2013
Fair enough.

Did you try etisalat and glo on that phone?

Like I said. I was hoodwinked by one fool on nL to buy a 3G router that suppprts only 850 band 3G.

Etisalat gets 3G signal on that router. I always thought otherwise too.

Meanwhile if memory serves me right glo used to maintain 850 band too. I know because I used to own an america only samsung phone that only got glo signal back in the days.

AnywAys, its a moot point. The user ALREADY bought his phone before telling us. Its for him to confirm if this works or not

fadinus: Bros its not possible for the htc inspire 4G to recieve 3G/4G signals because its frequency band is not supported here in nigeria.

He should get a Desire hd instead.
that is not true especially not on etisalat.

the phone specs support 3G on 850 and 1900 bands.

and those bands are on nigerian networks. I have a gsm router that supports just 850 band and it gets etisalat 3G quite fine.

I use that router at my workplace on the island btw

revise your assertion please.

and feel free to visit the HtC site and gsmarena for confirmation.

meanwhile the owner of the device can attempt to scan networks to see which ones the phone receives.

Ikonz: last time i was here, i came to seek info on android device that will be good to have, now I got one, I hope is ok?

HTC Inspire 4G, Android V2.3.3, Memory 768mb, Camera 8mp, i dnt knw wat kernel means but the version is 2.6.35.10-gd2564fb. Its dark brown wit at&t written at the back.
This is the AT&T version of the phone also called HTC Desire HD

Its a decent device. Its much better than buying any crap in the name of using android.

Its a Network Locked device (used to be but has been unlocked) Which is why AT&T is written on it.

Ikonz: am actually new to android, just learning it, bt it doesnt have file manager,
File managers are a dime a dozen. This is not a source of worry.
You just need to visit the Play Store and download from the long list there.

The only OEM that bundles a file manager with the OS is samsung.

Ikonz: i cant even send/receive tins via bluetooth with my Nokia 5800.
Well, i daresay that will probably be due to some other factor. Bluetooth is not restricted on android.

Ikonz: Can I upgrade it to JB? How? Wat does rooting mean?
Official JellyBean, No because HTC did not update the phone to jellybean and since the RAM is less than 1GB, that could also be a limiting factor.

Unofficially via Roms Like CYanogenMod, maybe.

CyanogenMod is unofficial firmware based on direct google releases of android, and not the version you see on your phone presently.

The biggest difference is that they do not look the same.
CYanogenMod also has the advantage of being Lighter and running smoother than OEM roms.

however its a question of preference.

The reference page for you is http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1018

That link is for the XDA section for your phone.

AS ALWAYS, PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND WELL BEFORE TRYING ANYTHING WITH YOUR PHONE. CONVINCE YOURSELF AND ASK QUESTIONS

there is a CM10.1 (JellyBean) build for the phone anyway http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2073997

Please learn how to manipulate and flash the phone properly before attempting anything

When you know what the phone is like, THEN TALK ABOUT ROOTING

Ikonz: How do I even browse with it? My etisalat said it can't be configured over the air, dat i shld visit their centre.
You browse with it by subscribing to a data plan, then creating the APN yourself.
no need to go anywhere.

You need to go into the settings, locate the entry for mobile networks and APNS.

there you create a new one with

APN: etisalat

username : ,<leave blank>

password : <leave blank>

save this new Access point and choose it as the active plan.

(if you have been using a Nokia Phone this should not be an issue to you anyway!!!)

Ikonz: Where do I download Android apps - games, wallpapers, themes,
You download them from the Google Play Store. There you find lots of free and paid games and apps

All you require is a gmail account. if you dont have one, open it on www.gmail.com Its free

Ikonz: actually am begining to get low spirit buying the phone cos notin seems to move fine yet, & the battery doesn't last long, just 1350mah or so (can i buy a higher battery?
Stick to at least trying to learn how the phone works first.

you don't run before learning to walk.

The battery is of a low capacity, but like practically every other smartphone out there, we always want it to last longer. As for a higher capacity battery, im not very sure you can get.

Then again, Possibly the battery that comes with the phone is already weak!!

Higher capacity batteries are usually bigger in size and come with a new bulkier back panel. besides im not really sure u can still get for this device.

Google for it and make your choice. one thing i know is prices are usually high sha.

Rather than that, id suggest you buy a spare battery you can swap (that's if the battery is removeable)

Over time when you learn more about the platform, there are ways which you can manage the battery better

I read in one book that "a fool and his money are soon parted"

its not coincidence that every other building in computer village is branded by tecno or some other chinko maker.

and its not coincidence that there are suddenly a lot of threads on NL whose sole aim is to advertise Chinese phones. its even on NL that you learn of phones that are to be released in 6months time without even an official statement by the largely invisible OEM.

it costs nothing more than an internet connection and a browser to open Nairaland, open multiple accounts and start trolling yourself.

what is sad is that fools in search of cheap things will always fall mugu without even rationalizing the whole arrangement carefully.

it should be illegal to complain about this things on NL. no coercion here now. just some clever underhand marketing.

penny wise and pound foolish
PhonesRe: Android, Anyone? Part II by 4llerbuntu(m): 10:39am On Jun 15, 2013
Leopantro: two things that cause this
1. earthing problems. the cheap components that was used to create motherboard have no where to discharge the excess charge

2. look at your charger. it is rated 2A ,500mah. it charges the tablet fast but 2A is over pumping it and it only has the screen as the discharge point

either you don't use it when it's charging or you get a lower amperes charger or use the USB port to charge it. don't use a Nokia charger on it when the charger spoils. though the pin will enter but the polarity is reversed. learnt that the hard way
I keep telling you to stop this thing u do. U won't hear.

That defect is actually common to those devices and its from poor engineering. Lots of those things have issues like this, often times the touch modules is bad and goes crazy all the time. A few minutes googling will clear your doubts.

OK sha. It is well

PhonesRe: iOS 7 By Apple : A Major Redesign by 4llerbuntu(m): 4:24pm On Jun 12, 2013
IOS 7 Indeed.

is it by simply pushing nothing and calling it a new version that gives props?

Buroda coogar, android updates, windows phone updates are major point releases that apply across board to every device capable of running it.

How do you even expect uniformity in a diverse ecosystem like android? do u have any idea how many different android devices are manufactured per month by different OEMS with different configurations, parts etc?

compared with a company that maintains just 2 device configs a year and the only thing different in them is the radio?

Google/MS could also release updates to the phone and message app and call it the next version of android so phones built 5 years ago could boast of running the latest.

its funny how you can see that hardware constraints may prevent IOS devices from running certain things, but you cannot see the same for android.

apparently u expect droids with 512 MB ram to run the same as those with 2GB ram.

the problem with you folks is that you cherish being deceived. you want people to look you in the eye and insult your intelligence, then you hail them for it and give out money for the privilege of being fooled

when you say x number of phones are running gingerbread, it does not mean they dont get updates both to core apps and other aspect of the system. it simply means the device maker has not deemed the hardware capable of running the latest.

for apple its excusable, all u need is push something into the fones and call it IOS7, but other folks cannot eh?

if i make and sell a 2010 BMW, then change the tyres and label it 2013 BMW, you will buy and then deceive yourself that you are using the 2013 version right?

in any other business this practice would get the company sued.

whatever rocks your cradles gentlemen, all these debates are not fashionable anymore.

Leopantro: Android DVB-T TV is a useful app to watch via USB DVB-T Stick TV on the road and at home.
Android DVB TV itself does not require root access. Android TV uses a special process to scan the channels on all frequencies. This must be done each time when you become a new transmission area movements (for example, moving to
a different city). Once the devices have been searched, the channel list on your Android device and saved you can easily switch between the TV programs or listen to the radio in the app.

Features:
* Channel List
* EPG list
* Connection types: ATSC, DVB-T, DVB-S, DVB-C
* All countries available
* Supports many DVB-T sticks WITHOUT driver installation, but not all.

Prerequisites:
* The best kernel 1.3.10-g52027f9 (100% compatible with the DVB-T drivers, other kernels will be
recognized.)
* Enable USB Debugging (Go to Settings> Applications> Development> USB debugging)
* Root access! (To install drivers)
* The app "Terminal Emulator" (to install drivers)
* Support DVB-T stick: http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/DVB-T_USB_Devices
* Supported device OTG
All this your grammar sef.

is this hardware or software?

how is this useful for us? as far as i know there are only 2 DVB-T in naija, startimes and Gotv. They are both pay tv and im not very sure their stuff sef is regular DVB-T

so how is this useful for a naija boi? are u using it?
