Where were the kidnappers when all this ransom money was waiting for them? I think foreigners are suicidal. Unless this wedding was before the kidnap menace. |
adaobi123: So even older woman are now carrying drugs ? Issokay.[/b]The oldest I can recall was the Nigerian caught in Brazil. She was 73: A 73-year old Nigerian woman, held for suspected involvement in drug peddling by Brazilian authorities has died in a hospital in that Country.- Source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/11/nigerian-female-drug-suspect-73-dies-in-brazil/#sthash.hUo5ExsK.dpuf |
The most basic principle is that gays engaged in consenting adult intercourse does not warrant violent reaction or legal intervention as their actions do not affect non-gays. For me, and I guess for most people, it's yucky to even contemplate what they're doing, but one cannot ban an act merely because non-participants find it disgusting. It is rational to ban harmful things which affect us or could affect us. It is completely irrational to ban things which we are not party to and would not contemplate being a party to. Why would the actions of gays elicit such emotional strong reactions in non-gays unless such non-gays harbour some dormant homosexuality which they feel might be aroused by the presence of gays. Incidentally, research shows homophobic men most likely to be aroused by homosexuality: One study asked heterosexal men how comfortable and anxious they are around gay men. Based on these scores, they then divided these men into two groups: men that are homophobic, and men who are not. These men were then shown three, four-minute videos. One video depicted straight sex, one depicted lesbian sex and one depicted gay male sex. While this was happening, a device was attached to each participant's penis. This device has been found to be triggered by sexual arousal, but not other types of arousal (such as nervousness, or fear - arousal often has a very different meaning in psychology than in popular usage).Link to articles. We as Blacks are the biggest victims of Black criminals, yet we have no marches or rallies against this. When Bawomolo, a Nairalander, was senselessly killed, it wasn't in the hands of a white vigilante or cop but Black gangsters. It's easier to deflect from the criminality causing such huge loss of young Black lives by railing against Whites. |
I made these same exact points in another thread but nobody addressed it. What Yerima defeated was an attempt to delete S29(4) of the Nigerian constitution, which section has been in force since the constitution came into force. |
I may have missed something here: S29(4) of the 1999 Nigerian constitution provides that for the purpose of renouncing citizenship, a woman who's married may be deemed to be of full age. This provision has been in force since the enactment of the '99 constitution and was not recently introduced. What Yerima opposed was a proposal to delete the provision. The deletion attempt having failed, we are restored to the status quo. Nothing has changed so why the hysteria? I may be mistaken but Nigeria has marriage laws that prescribe the age for which one can get married. One has to be legally married, including meeting the statutory marital age, before S29(4) can be invoked. If there is no statutory marital age, the National Assembly can still pass one by a simple majority, the Yerima rejectionists are obviously outnumbered on this issue. Am I missing something here? |
It's probably just guarding its next meal |
The man is an embarrassment on TV as he is not articulate and doesn't come across as in command of the issues. |
Nothing surprising. Just look at this forum which is used by a demographic more educated than the average Nigerian. The forum is marked by an obsession with promoting ethnic division and personality clashes between rival corrupt politicians. We blame our leaders but our leaders are drawn from the general population and are a reflection of us. |
uche13: This is very simple. As a lawyer, let me explain what Fashola lawyers tried to achieve by discontinuing the suit. Jang's counsel filed a preliminary objection challenging the locus standi of Fashola to institute the suit in the first place. Locus standi means the capacity to maintain an action which means that one must be directly affected before filing a suit.Fashola as a sitting Governor and a member of the NGF does have locus standi as he is personally affected by the supposed attempt to hijack the vote. If it was something as mundane as locus standi, his counsel would have disclosed this, or have I missed the disclosure? |
Prof Corruption: 1965 - Soyinka was arrested and imprisoned. He was falsely accused of broadcasting false election results on radio. Internationally renowned writers such as Norman Mailer and William Styron led protests of Soyinka’s imprisonment. Soyinka was freed after 3 months. The price for freedom of expression is no longer as steep for literary icons. The present GEJ administration and political system represent a quantum leap in civility compared to our past leaders. Where you used to get detention, you get smear campaigns by Abati/Okupe and other smear merchants. |
3 of the top 5 are ex-white minority rule countries: Zimbabwe, South Africa & Namibia. |
elfico: sorry 2 interrupt u mr High I.Q. So ICC should go for leaders who purported victimizd their own people only why those that invade other people's countries should be given medals. Ask urself y US is nt a signatory to the ICC and why no charges have been brought against Assad of Syria. Or why all supposed great nations have refused to accept that what took place in Egypt is a coup. They preach democracy yet turn d other way when g democratic govt is disposed. If they cant recognize what happen in Egypt as a coup, they should not tell us who to arrest or not. Well, u would nt knw dis since u have a very high I.Q of 60, last time i checked. The ICC's focus on Africa may be unfair on Africa's political leaders but the attention paid to the indiscretions of African leaders is beneficial to the common African person. Unless you are a part of the political class, your possession of a simple mind shouldn't stop you from comprehending that the threat of war crime charges goes a long way in dampening a ruler's likelihood of going on a killing spree. Who suffers most from our leaders' evil other than Africans, so why are we shedding tears if they are put under the spotlight? And what's all this dismissive talk of alleged war crimes in Sudan, many Nigerian soldiers have served in Sudan and can attest to the devastation wreaked by Al-Bashir's racial war on Darfurians inspired by the sense that as ethnic Africans, they are of a lesser status than those who perceive themselves as Arabs. Why are we Black Africans moaning that our leaders are subject to scrutiny and that Al-Bashir, who deems us as his racial inferiors, has been indicted by the ICC? |
@OP Does OD stand for odious dimwit? |
If you needed any evidence this is a low IQ nation, this thread offers it in abundance. Of course, the ICC has almost exclusively focused on African leaders but this is to the benefit of the ordinary inhabitants of Africa who have to live at the mercy of our national security forces, ask the residents of Odi and Baga about the potential of our military to run amok. The threat of ICC action keeps the worst excesses of our leaders action in check. They only victimise us not Westerners. |
KwoiZabo: Wole Soyinka don't see such things maybe when it comes to issues like this his microphone doesn't workIs he supposed to address every political wrongdoing in Nigeria? |
This kind of article exposing bi-partisan egregious theft by our politicians doesn't usually make front page as it doesn't follow the formula of pro or anti-GEJ stories which the paid agents and bigots that infest this forum prefer. |
Al-Bashir committed his atrocities against Africans in the name of Arab supremacy and we have Africans on this thread and in the AU defending him. |
Poverty has barely gone down in Nigeria and this is largely a function of high birth rate, the average Nigerian woman has 5 or 6 children in contrast with the likes of China with their 1 child policy, and economic growth that is not export led or job creating. It's 2013 and no one knows what concrete plans the FG or the opposition have to spur quicker economic growth and job creation. All we hear is endless name calling. |
I think they are wrong to put us ahead of the likes of Morocco and Algeria. |
Has anyone asked how credible this news report is? Where can we verify CNN's statement on the matter? |
nagoma: Al -Mustapha is not from kano state you dunce.See how this witless sectarian replies to a facetious point with glib Nigerian provincialism? What legal provisions exclude him from running in Kano? |
endy247: u shld do ur analysis well, both d rich and d poor wil be affected by fuel subsidy cos increase in fuel price means increase in transportation fee then increase in goods and services. The justification for fuel subsidy is that it helps the poor but I will suggest that there are far better ways to help the poor. The money budgeted for fuel subsidy will double our education and health combined budgets. Free education and healthcare is far more beneficial to the poor than cheap fuel. Using fuel subsidy as a welfare measure is regressive as you benefit more the wealthier you are as fuel consumption correlates to wealth. If you are a rural dwelling poor person, most Nigerians live in rural areas, who simply lives off subsistence farming, your fuel consumption is minimal, almost non-existent. There are many Nigerians in the rural area who don't use transport or require it. To use a personal example, my mum often runs her generator 12hrs a day, largely to keep her freezer cold or for things as mundane as watching TV. In addition, her driver warms her SUVs every morning. All these activities require the use of subsidised fuel. Her next door neighbour who is poor has no car and no generator and lives off subsistence farming and petty trading with a rather large family. The subsidy element of my mum's fuel consumption will mean that she will get more money from the Govt than her poorer neighbour. The bizarre thing about fuel subsidy is that you benefit more the wealthier you are and the more you consume fuel. This often explains why anti-fuel subsidy protests rarely spread outside urban enclaves. In the 50s, 60s and 70s, we managed to make tremendous progress in improving living standards without fuel subsidy by spending hugely on health and education. Awolowo is famous for his free education and not subsidy programmes. As we became a major oil producer, we became oil drunk and suddenly got the idea that the way to eradicate poverty is by subsiding fuel consumption. The fact that we have progressively got poorer since doesn't seem to have made an impression. |
Al Mustapha for Governor of Kano State in 2015! Not far-fetched when Buhari who is mooted as the next President is an ex-coupist with blood on his hands, not to mention the collection of cultists, drug dealers and money launderers like GEJ's logorrheic wife involved in politics. Al-Mustapha has enough murderous and criminal inclinations to become a major political player. |
ThiefOfHearts: \So you are still alive? Launching tribal diatribes while living in New York, as far away from your ethnic group as possible I think that country is getting more racially polarised as whites feel that their privileges are being threatened. The election of Obama didn't help. |
Ah, the London 'riots' were a spontaneous display of aggressive shopping. We are a picture of racial harmony in Blighty, you should leave the racist Neanderthals in the US and come here. toshmann: By the way, the same story of hate, race and injustice. Black man don suffer oCheck this from our lovely Italian friends: The Italian prime minister, Enrico Letta, has condemned as unacceptable comments made by a senior rightwing senator in which he suggested the country's first black government minister had "the features of an orangutan".http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jul/14/italian-senator-roberto-calderoli-cecile-kyenge |
The people to blame for this debacle are the prosecutors who in a bid to sate Black outrage resorted to extremes by going for the most excessive charge they can levy, despite the absence of sufficient evidence to sustain the charge. Manslaughter was an afterthought but it should have been the main charge. Anyway, this is why that country is uncivilised, unlike us here in Blighty ![]() |
For those asking why Sgt Rogers hasn't been charged with perjury, it's not up to the court to bring criminal charges against him. It's for the State to do this. Perhaps they won't as it's true there were attempts to bribe him. Either way, it vindicates Al Mustapha |
It's hilarious that there were protests in respect of the petrol price increase when most of the Nigerian poor are rural poor whose petrol use is relatively minimal. Kerosene is more important to the poor but the long running dislocation of its market price from the official price hardly generates attention. They should scrap the fuel subsidy and retain only a kerosene subsidy. Fuel subsidy is a retrogressive welfare measure as it rewards the wealthy more, they having a far higher petrol consumption than any segment of society. |
OP doing his job as a paid political hack. I disagree with the premise that the Govt should solve the unemployment problem by providing jobs directly. effisyman: What an achievement. .. of over 50million idle able educcated capable and with burning desire to work.Let's just for the sake of argument accept your claim, that there are 50 million unemployed, which you most likely plucked out of thin air. Do you want the FG to provide jobs for them? How many do you think the FG can afford to employ? Lets take a scenario where the Govt employs these people on an average wage of $1000 per annum, 160,000 Naira per year. This will cost the FG $50bn, more than the total annual budget. The Govt can only try and create an enabling environment for businesses to grow and employ people. |
If there were sound business reasons for establishing a national carrier, why is the Govt getting involved in the minutiae of setting this up? Arik, any of the other local operators or an entirely new private sector owned local airline can function as one if there was a business need for this. |
So where are the guns the suspects were alleged to have used? |
