In the future, we will see people walking down the street yammering to themselves whilst exhibiting a range of weird facial gestures to their phones. Maybe the world is going crazy.

PoliticsRe: Lagos Economy Rated Above Ghana, UK - Fashola by 4Play(m): 8:57pm On Mar 06, 2013
The first thing that has to be noted that there is no direct quote from Fashola which evidences that he did say that Lagos is rated higher than the UK.

Fashola argued that the yardstick for measuring good governance could only be done by those who know, adding that the economy of Lagos is now rated ahead of Ghana and the United Kingdom.

The governor said, "Currently, the Lagos State economy is being upgraded from stable to positive, that's good governance, you don't need any campaign to do that."
The use of the term ''rated'' is by the journalist.

What is even sadder is the motley crew of pathetic mentally challenged salad tossers who have tried to argue that Lagos is indeed rater higher than the UK. Bear in mind that the UK is rated AAA(prime grade) by all the major rating agencies except Moodys which has the UK as Aa1 which is high grade. Nigeria by contrast is rated BB-(non-investment grade). Effectively, what is known in the industry's parlance as junk. Now, Lagos as a component region of a state with junk status is also rated BB-, i.e, junk as well.

Now, before you copy and paste masters paste a link which refers to Lagos's national rating as AA(Nga), please let your ignorant brains comprehend that the identifier(Nga) effectively means that this bit rates credit outlook relative to Nigeria and is meant for local investors. Nigeria has junk status and Lagos has junk status compared internationally.

To compare Lagos or any part of Nigeria to the UK's credit rating is a rather obscene display of ignorance.

PoliticsRe: Progressive Governors On The Street Of Maiduguri Acknowledging Cheers(pix) by 4Play(m): 10:58am On Mar 02, 2013
Pukkah: Has Boko Haram stated that it's against Jonathan? You've assumed that it's against President Jonathan SIMPLY because the problem got worse after him. Don't problems generally get worse if they remain untackled? Is kidnapping problem not getting worse in the South? Is there any assurance that the Boko Haram problem would not have got worse under Yar'adua?
The Governors themselves congratulated security forces for largely pacifying Maiduguri which made it possible for them to be there, so I'm not sure about untackled problems. Boko Haram's violent ideology isn't compatible with a Christian president. It's no different from the sudden urgency to implement Sharia law in various Northern states after OBJ became President. Religion is used to mask deeper angst about having an infidel ruler from the South. I know GEJ has been the subject of death threats by Boko Haram, I can't seem to recall his presidential rivals like Buhari being so as well.

This is an attempt to cheapen the governors' visit. If they had announced the visit before going there, people like you would probably have dared/taunted them because Boko Haram had even been attacking emirs and threatening governors. They kill their own people on a regular basis.

Now that they've gone, rather than commend them or just ignore the news, you're saying they should go to Yenagoa. Are you saying the people of Yenagoa are so intolerant to the extent that they would attack them? Are you insinuating that Yenagoa is more unsafe than Maiduguri?
Yenagoa is safer than Maiduguri but in a political campaign, it is safer for politicians opposed to GEJ to stage political theatre in a more sympathetic city like Maiduguri than Yenagoa. The reverse will be the case for GEJ.

Nigerian politicians hardly do anything commendable. Whether GEJ campaigns in Maiduguri is irrelevant, I don't think it serves any practical purpose to put your life or the lives of Nigeria's security personnel in additional danger just to stage political theatre. If any shooting occurs while he's visiting, he will be whisked away in a helicopter whilst some poorly equipped and barely paid soldier or policeman is left to face mayhem. It's pointless political theatre that masks the lack of detailed policy initiatives on how to develop and secure the country.

And you are smart, clap for yourself. U belong to the class of educated who think insulting the other party only makes you sound smarter.( how dumb). Now mr smarty pants, let me ask you, why was d America involved in Libya and Iraq to emancipate the ppl frm it's leader lik dey said I.e ghadafi and saddam, and d same country turned a blind eye during the rwandan genocide refusing to help a ppl dat needed help, considering u said an industrialised nation means import, why didn't they help this countries after all it will mean more imports for dem.
Calling out people like you for your ignorance is to be lauded. It's ignoramuses like you who make Nigeria a squalid existence because evidence based reasoning and acceptance of personal responsibility is beyond you.

As for your rant about Rwanda, this ignores the fact that the country is a major recipient of Western aid. That the West does not militarily intervene in every conflict is hardly justification to conclude that the West wants these conflict ridden nations to remain impoverished. There isn't infinite resources for military interventions by the West. Rwanda has been a major recipient of foreign aid. Only the most jaundiced observer will conclude that failing to send military forces to a conflict is evidence that you want to conflict to continue. By this logic, the failure of the then OAU or other regional bodies to militarily intervene is proof that Africans want to impoverish Rwanda.

Us imports, because they can't produce some of the things, and because it's cheaper importing from countries lik china, did you knw us tried makin china revalue their currency, to reduce importation, which lead to d downfall of some American companies, you do knw dat American industrial system is going down and dats why evn do Us opposes china's political system they still do business.
Trade is about exploiting comparative advantages. You buy from others what others make better than yourself either on a quality or a pricing basis. Only that to buy first, you have to have more money. Therefore, Africans will be in a position to buy more US products as well as other foreign products if Africans' purchasing power is enhanced not constrained. It is, therefore, in Western interest to enhance our purchasing power.

Yes we are so poor we make do with less no of trade (import), but we are so naturally endowed and strategically placed we provide the raw material for some of their industries, Africa provides oil, gold, diamond to name a few, why where our ppl taken for slavery, and why did the Dutch settled in cape town?
Get your head out of the White mans butt and see.
Wouldn't our natural endowments be easier to exploit and export if there's peace and prosperity throughout the continent. Take Nigeria for example, what will be in Western interests is for peace and security which will mean no further disruptions to oil production and supply. Oil, gold and diamond are products whose full exploitation work best in an environment where there is order not chaos. Order can only be achieved through prosperity as there will be less unemployed youths tempted to take up arms. Your emotional incontinence won't allow you see that global prosperity is in everyone's interest as you prefer to dwell on the blame game.

No one said they formed boko haram, dat will be silly. But the west had always funded rebel groups in countries they re interested in this is not a peculiar Nigerian situation, it happened in south america, Asia and Africa.
It's simple, you have an interest in a country, you look for the extremist or the tribalistic or the people who re not happy bout their leader and help fund indirectly, causing unrest. And making more money, after all there re ppl who make money from arms deal, the west is a capitalistic society, you get the cheapest resources possible and make the highest profits, one of the reasons wall street almost crashed.
Are we supposed to extrapolate from the US funding armed groups that the US funds Boko Haram without actual evidence of US funding Boko Haram? Our forefathers drew many non-evidence based conclusions: twins are dangerous, women climbing trees is abomination, e.t.c. It is amazing that in the 21st century, someone who purports to be educated still advances rabid conspiracy theories devoid of a shred of evidence.

Can your severely limited thinking faculties comprehend that Africa's resources, just like Norway's or the UAE's, is best exploited by the West in a context where there is no conflict? Conflict does not make resources cheaper, MEND's activities won't make oil cheaper nor would Boko Haram's activities make the exploitation of solid minerals in the North easier or cheaper.

One thing is clear, in all the rants by the rabid conspiracists, there isn't a shred of evidence for their conspiracy. The poster by the name of Sissie has managed to ramble incoherently about Rwanda, Libya, Iraq and Cape Town but failed to provide justification for the claim which this thread makes: that the US sponsors Boko Haram.
PoliticsRe: Progressive Governors On The Street Of Maiduguri Acknowledging Cheers(pix) by 4Play(m): 8:15am On Mar 02, 2013
Pukkah: What would have been your reaction if the menace of Boko Haram had started after Jonathan became President? But you see, it was under Yar'adua's government that their leader was killed.
You are refuting a straw man argument that I didn't make. We know that Boko Haram existed before GEJ's administration but the campaign of violence escalated after he became President in a manner that suggests that much of the violence is inspired by the mere fact that he is President. I don't think it's far-fetched to say that the Northern Islamists will be far keener to kill GEJ than Oshiomole or any of the other Governors.

That the opposition walked through the streets of a city gripped by anti-Govt sentiment and violence is arguably less impressive than walking the streets of a place like Yenagoa which is virulently pro-GEJ.

Bluemosquito: sory to say this bro, bt you are miseducated, ill informed and mislead, why would Nigeria buy more technological products from the west, if it economy can produce such products, if nigeria's economy is to be industry-intensive, dnt you knw that nigeria would produce those bb,del laptops, cars, bikes etc themselves and thus no need to buy from foreign sources? God some Nigerians are really slow and circular thinkers, why the f.u.c_k do you think Us is opposing the siting of chinese industries in naija?
You're a typical benighted Naija pseudo-intellectual passionately wedded to ignorance.

You are effectively saying that Nigeria's industrialisation will mean no further imports. This is ignorance on steroids. An industralised economy means more imports, not less. The biggest importer in the world is the US. The country I live in, the UK, imports more in a year than the whole of Africa does.

An industralised economy means people have more money in their pockets. The wealthier Nigerians become, the more goods and services they can afford which will mean greater consumption of Western products.

The present situation where we are so poor that the whole of Africa only makes up about 2 percent of world trade does not serve anyone's interests.

As for the fabricated dross about the US opposing the siting of Chinese factories in Nigeria, can you provide evidence for this.

So the non-existent Wikileaks link which the article refers to is only available to subscribers like you? You can disprove all doubts about the source of the article by posting it here. Or are sworn to secrecy by Wikileaks too?

I don't blame you for your ignorance, I blame the abysmal Nigerian educational system which and others on this forum are testament of.
PoliticsRe: Progressive Governors On The Street Of Maiduguri Acknowledging Cheers(pix) by 4Play(m): 2:26am On Mar 02, 2013
I'm not sure what this piece of political theatre is suppossed to prove. If anything, in a country where suspicion and mistrust are rife, this will only strenghten the suspicion of those who subscribe to the view that the upsurge in Boko Haram violence is linked to opposition to GEJ's ascendancy to power.

It would be more impressive if they were walking the streets of Yenagoa.
Foreign AffairsRe: Wikileaks: Boko Haram Is A CIA Covert Operation by 4Play(m): 2:07am On Mar 02, 2013
@ Topic , NL on full re-tard mode. This is nothing but an opinion piece from a person with a feverish imagination. In a calculated attempt to mislead, the article purports that the source of its allegations is Wikileaks yet there's no shred of evidence for this.

I really shudder at the level of intelligence, or lack of, running riot here. Does anyone seriously think that the cause of Islamist violence in Northern Nigeria is America? We are suppossed to believe that Muslim fanatics in the North are simply puppets of Americans who are largely Christians or agnostic/atheists.

There is a related bizzare claim, that the West seeks to control Nigeria by destabilising it. People who subscribe to this dross think that economic development is a zero sum game, that you only develop at the expense of others. The reality is that Nigeria's prosperity will mean that Nigerians will buy more Western products from Blackberries to Dell computers to Peugeot vehicles. Only stark raving ignoramuses think Nigeria's poor state serves Western interests.

Ultimately, what this thread illustrates is the human tendency to avoid facing hard truths about personal failures by ascribing failures to external dark forces. For tribalists, lack of progress is merely down to the conspiratorial forces unleashed by other tribes. For the pseudo-intellectuals who think they're above tribalism, disorder is due to conspiracies from external forces like the West. Anything to avoid facing up to the uncomfortable reality, that we are largely the authors of our own misfortune.
PoliticsFitch Raises Outlook On Lagos To Positive by 4Play(op): 9:33pm On Feb 27, 2013
Fitch Ratings raised its outlook on Nigeria’s Lagos state to positive from stable, citing “improving debt management” and moves toward a balanced budget by 2015.

Increasingly bonds with “fixed repayment schedules, longer maturities and monthly provisions into the debt reserves fund, are replacing the traditional concentration of short-term bank loans” for the state that includes the country’s commercial capital, Fitch said today in an e-mailed statement. “Fitch views this as a sign of the state’s improving debt management.”

Lagos, led by Governor Babatunde Fashola, sold 80 billion naira ($505 million) of debt in November, its third and biggest issue in six years, to fund developments including an urban rail system that needs about $1 billion to complete. The seven-year notes were priced with a 14.5 percent coupon.

With an estimated population of 20 million, Lagos is the top contributor to the economy out of Nigeria’s 36 states and may grow 10 percent this year, according to Fitch. Tax contributions to revenue may reach 80 percent in 2015 from 70 percent due to improved collection.

CrimeNigerian Acid Attack ''Victim'' by 4Play(op): 11:34am On Feb 24, 2013
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2283673/Did-acid-victim-hurt-purpose-Police-seize-injured-womans-laptop-amid-claims-researched-similar-incidents-attack.html

Did Naomi Oni pour acid on herself? It would be ironic after all the invectives poured on Muslims wearing Niqab.

Police are believed to have seized a computer belonging to a young woman who was badly scarred in an acid attack amid suspicions that she may have caused the injuries herself.

But her family fear that detectives are not doing enough to catch the perpetrator of the attack and are focusing on a 'crazy' line of inquiry.

Naomi Oni, 20, was left with horrific injuries following the incident which happened as she left work at the end of last year and was in hospital for nearly a month receiving treatment.

Police are understood to have taken Miss Oni's laptop and are said to have discovered that she had searched the internet for websites about acid attacks before she received her injuries.

Searches are said to include material on Katie Piper, the former model who has campaigned for facial disfigurement victims since she was scarred in an acid attack in 2008, according to the Sunday Times.
PoliticsRe: Catholic Bishops Blast Jonathan, Governors, Over Massive Corruption, Rights Abus by 4Play(m): 9:41pm On Feb 22, 2013
The communique stated that the lack of transparency and accountability were responsible for the high level of poverty and security threats in the country.

It said, “To respect the dignity of a person is to concede his rights to him as fully human.

“We cannot fail to point out that the pervasive lack of accountability and transparency in governance in Nigeria has become a serious abuse of human rights.

“A government that is negligent in this regard, assaults the intelligence of the citizen; this, too, is a gross violation of human dignity.

“We call on leaders in every sphere of our society to be more accountable and more transparent in the conduct of public affairs.

“The lack of accountability, especially in the oil industry in Nigeria continues to give our country a bad name, impoverishes the citizenry, and threatens national security.

“It is a gross violation of human dignity that Nigerians, citizens of a richly endowed land, live in dehumanising poverty.

“That is why the government and the governed must renew sincere efforts to fight corruption and the theft and wastage of public funds in Nigeria,’’ it said.
To be fair, the Bishops' communique addresses leaders in general, not just GEJ.
PoliticsRe: Labour Rejects N384BN PHCN Settlement, Threatens To Shut Power Sector by 4Play(m): 8:48pm On Feb 22, 2013
If talk of PHCN having 50,000 strong staff is true, this epitomises what's wrong with Nigerian. Effectively, you have a situation where relatively few ''insiders'', whether politicians or Govt workers, extract as much money as possible from the Govt leaving the rest of Nigeria's populace living on crumbs.

How can PHCN which generates an average of 4000 MW have 50,000 employees when ESKOM of South Africa which generates over 40,000 MW including running a nuclear power station has staff strength of about 39,000?

In a country of over 160m people where the vast majority do not benefit from the Govt, to spend such vast sums on highly unproductive workers is ridiculous. Nigerians are so ingrained with the idea of taking as much as you can from the Govt that some people here argue it's PHCN's staff's ''right'' to demand more. N384bn is probably about 6-8 percent of the budget of a nation of 160m and this all to be spent on 50,000 people.
Christianity EtcNigerian ''Evangelists'' Condemned For False Miracle Claims - BBC News by 4Play(op): 11:41pm On Feb 21, 2013
TV shows made in London that encourage viewers to believe they are cured of life-threatening illnesses by prayer have been condemned by charities.

Charities criticised an episode of the Miracle Hour show, on Faith World TV, during which a diabetic caller was told he was "set free" from the disease.

"It is particularly dangerous and puts his life at risk," said African Health Policy Network head Francis Kaikumba.

UKWET, which produces the show, said it was "reviewing" its "new programmes".

The organisation, whose full name is the UK World Evangelical Trust, said: "We are now reviewing our new programmes to make sure our standards meet good practice."

Miracle Hour is filmed at Faith World TV's studio in south London. It is hosted by Bishop Simon Iheanacho, who is chairman of Minority Ethnic Christian Affairs (Meca), which supports black and minority ethnic Christians and is part of ecumenical body Churches Together in England.

In an episode broadcast on 4 January, on channel 591 on the Sky platform, a diabetic caller named Bode, from Leyton in east London, telephoned the programme.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-21505191

Seems to be a blindingly obvious point that telling, for instance, HIV sufferers or diabetics that they have been miraculously cured is dangerous.
