When I came of age (around 18), behind my mother's back, I went in search of my father. Because he was long dead that meant visiting the cemetery where he was buried. I went to the office, carrying his name and date of burial and we went through the records and found the ground where he lay. And from that day I felt complete. I got closure. And I felt like I knew myself better.
