crackkhaus:
The only traditional ruler on this list that should never have been listed is the Oba of Benin.

That was a king who resisted the colonial slave masters and was exiled (not dethroned) by them because he chose not to be their pawn.

Ovoranmen Nogbaisi is a hero and should be treated as such.
God bless you.. putting him on that shitty list really unsettled my guts.. i hardly could resist the urge to be very irritated..

Saopedro:
The dethronement of Muhammadu Sanusi as the emir of Kano has continued to generate reactions; some say it is expected going by recent happenings but others are still in shock. There are also those who claimed a revered traditional ruler like the emir of Kano has never been treated in such manner. Some even said such cannot happen in certain parts of the country.

But the dethronement of emirs — or those in similar positions of authority — is not an entirely new thing in Nigeria; one of such events played more than 100 years ago when the oba of Benin was deposed and sent on exile.

Here are seven influential traditional rulers who have experienced such.

OLUWADARE ADESINA, DEJI OF AKURE

Who remembers Oluwadare Adesina, the former deji of Akure, who fought with his wife in public? He was dethroned after the public brawl with Bolanle, his wife, an act that was widely described as a public show of shame. The Ondo state government deposed Adesina in 2009, after invoking sections 17(1) and (2) of the state’s chiefs law, accusing him of conducting himself in the “most dishonorable, condemnable and disgraceful manner.”

The dethroned king was also banished from Akure for six months. The council of kingmakers had called for his deposition, while his estranged wife, now late, sued him for battery.

OVONRAMWEN NOGBAISI, OBA OF BENIN

Apart from not being in good terms with then British government, part of the cause of the dethronement of Ovonramwen Nogbaisi as oba and his subsequent exile in 1897 was the murder of James Philips, then acting consul-general, during a visit to the Benin kingdom.

The oba was captured by the British authorities and tried in accordance with the British law; he was subsequently found guilty before being deposed. He was said to have angered the British government through various actions such as forbidding his people from trading with the British and barring the white men from entering Benin after he discovered a treaty signed with the government was a “tactic to annex Benin into the British Empire.”

Another of his actions that did not go down well with the authorities was the stoppage of palm oil supply to Itsekiri middle men in 1896. He reportedly took the action because they refused to pay their tribute to the oba, a move seen as puncturing the business of the British merchants in the region.
its ill conceived to classify this oppression as deposition.. it was a cowardly act by people who will never want to be called animals but would never agree to be called plants...

People should understand that Fulani herdsmen are always armed with dangerous weapons even if the weapons are not openly displayed. You don't argue with an herdsman if you are not armed and ready to shed blood. He will kill you without even thinking about it.

Fulani herdsmen are extremely dangerous if you cross their paths, especially in a forest or any isolated place. If they are in your area, make sure you are armed, secure position and ensure you strike first when there is altercation. Those guys are natural killers !

A lot has been said so far on this issue, but in my opinion, this is an open display of backwardness. Which one is "exile" again? If the government has anything substantial against Sanusi, let them take him to court already. He should be the one seeking asylum form political persecution instead......their problem!

My major concern is that another avenue for looting has been created, now that they have exiled him for live, and he is to be housed somewhere under government watch.....ehn! How much did Lai Mohammed say we are spending to feed El zakzaky every day again?

DONSMITH123:
A former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani, on Monday, said those behind the dethronement of the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, displayed “the intolerance and toxicity of the liquor of power”.

Sani said the Northern Elders Forum had waded into the misunderstanding between the deposed Emir and the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, but failed to make the two parties reach a truce.

He tweeted:

https://mobile.twitter.com/ShehuSani/status/1236994961733812225
only time will tell but I might be old then and make references as an elder statesman but funny there will still be idiots from idiots that will go against my current observations and knowledge of things... it’s pathetic but one day a very strong institution will rise and make any Nigerian by birth be equal and the gap between the rich and poor will be minimal..
PoliticsRe: Sanusi's Grandfather, Muhammadu Sanusi Was Dethroned By Ahmadu Bello by 6digitscomrade: 8:04pm On Mar 09, 2020
festacman:
Governor Ganduje has the right to dethrone and remove Lamido Sanusi. He also has the right to take him out of the Kano, briefly, to protect any new Emir.

However, in this modern time, Governor Ganduje has no right to keep Lamido Sanusi under house arrest when he did NOT commit any criminal offence. Having being dethroned, he ceases to be subject to the Kano Emirate bye-laws. His dethronement does not make him a persona non grata. He is still a bona fide citizen of Nigeria entitled to all fundamental rights as guaranteed by the Nigeria Constitution for all its citizens. Therefore, any attempt to banish him and detain him against his will is nothing but an act of kidnapping. I am sure his family, friends, associate and particularly his personal lawyers know what to do.
he can’t be exiled or banished we aren’t in cave men times.. at least I know that can’t happen not in 21st century

British Council 75th Anniversary: "I was a Multiple Village Boy but Today Am global and Well Travelled" - Val Ozigbo

Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, the President of Transcorp Group and Anambra state Governorship Aspirant has been honoured and recognized at the 75th Anniversary of British Council In Nigeria. He was honoured for his inevitable role in promoting and supporting the youth empowerment and activities of British Council in Nigeria.

While reacting to the honour and recognition he received, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo had this to say "These days when I introduce myself as a multiple-village boy, because I grew up in 3 remote and peaceful villages, my newer friends find it difficult to relate, until they see me with corn on the street, palm wine from the calabash or in the midst of masquerades in absolute fraternity. Well, I love to identify myself as one, because village is the start and part of what made me what I am today, and I am ever grateful. But I am also global and well travelled (no bragging intended), thanks to the Grace of God and what He has positioned men and institutions to conspire in my favour".

But the turning point for me was the opportunity that British Council and Foreign & Commonwealth Office gave me, with the award of the most prestigious Chevening Scholarship, that enabled me to travel to England in 2003, first time in my first 33 years of existence to travel abroad. With this scholarship, passport was procured, visa provided with ease, tuition paid for, living expenses sorted for free, and with periodic check to see how I was doing, it was easy to complete my MSc in Finance from the prestigious Lancaster University with Distinction.

Just last year, 15 years after, the same Lancaster University honoured me with a Distinguished Alumni Award at its convocation ceremony, and today, as British Council celebrated its 75th Anniversary in Nigeria, it was humbling to see this same village boy as one of few guest speakers and awardees. As I remarked today, I see a better Nigeria where opportunities like this would not have to come from a foreign partner but from within. We can and should democratize luck and opportunity and raise the living standards and restore our pride as a people. As we do these, in the next 75 years, we will see Nigeria and British Council in stronger partnership, with us putting more on the table of the partnership."

All of u replying are not from Edo so you are responding in ignorance.

It's true that the governor has power, however the oba has a strong influence over the Edo people and they would certainly side with the oba over the governor if push comes to shove.

Any Edo governor that does what ganduje did to the Emir to the oba will effectively put himself on political exile. The state house might even impeach him before he gets the chance to do that.

If you don't know about Edo culture don't quote me and display ur ignorance.

So, in church during the prayer session, and after the prayer topic has been introduced, I find I can't pray for more than 30 seconds, 1 minute tops.

After that, I have nothing else to say. Yet I see others praying until whoever is leading the session intervenes and introduces another prayer topic.

What exactly are they saying for that long or are they just repeating themselves. I can't speak in tongues too, so that doesn't help my cause.

I also cannot pray loudly, I always whisper under my breath even when the pastor says to shout at the top of our voices, because that's just how I am.

Do these things I mentioned n hinder prayers from being answered?
