Racoon: Though Shoprite-the SA company have been ripping us here while its citizens are committing xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in its home country while the relevant government agencies did practically nothing to succour us, the departure of Shoprite is a sign that the company have seen something coming. What does Shoprite have to do with xenophobic attacks in South Africa? Your mentality would be like blaming Nigerians abroad whenever a foreigner is kidnapped or robbed in Nigeria. SMH > |

Amotolongbo: NULGE opposes move to delist councils from constitution
https://m.guardian.ng/news/lg-administration-getting-worse-in-nigeria-obasanjo-cries-out/ We should stop wasting money on our so-called “LGAs” and instead adopt the Lagos LCDA model...
Almost every local government “election” in Nigeria results in the ruling party winning all seats... Which means effectively wasting scarce funds on state election commissions and these dodgy “elections”.
Let’s simply have state-created LCDAs (and each state can have as many as it can sustain)... Funded by the state governments (using the funds presently wasted on LG “elections” among others).> |
Education › Re: Why The Government Is Right In Licensing New Private Universities (Opinion) by 9jaRealist: 2:49pm On Apr 09, 2021 |
HigherEd: 1) Nigeria's Birth Rate Is Too High:
Every year, Nigeria adds about 200,000 more candidates to UTME. The UTME candidacy of 2021 is largely predicated on the birth rate of 1998 - 2004 which hovered around 6.16 births per woman. In 2021, Nigeria still has one of the largest birth rate in the world with 5.4 children per woman. However, unlike 1998 - 2004 there's even far greater appetite for education and a dwindle in child mortality. What this means is Nigeria is set for serious admission crisis in the near future.
Any nation which wants a purely public funded education must keep her annual birth growth to less than 3.0 per woman. E.g Finland has 1.3 birth per woman, Sweden has 1.6 birth per woman, China has 1.7 birth per woman. Cut down on the effing birth rate... Most of Nigeria’s problem today stems from a runaway population. And unfortunately it’s generally those who can least afford it who have the most kids... At IDP camps, they are busy breeding like rabbits when some already have more than double-digit kids. Unfortunately, there’s no consequence for having kids you cannot support... Sadly these kids are consigned to begging, Almajiri or simply abandoned to their own devices. > |

> Personally, I do NOT care much for these so-called influencers (and the whole celebrity thingy)... But please let’s not treat nor elevate the seemingly inherent anti-influencer bias to the level of CRIMINALITY.
I have never heard of this Alex Saab dude until the last few days on Nairaland... But I know that one is not automatically a criminal for pissing off the US govt by supporting the Venezuelan govt.
What’s happened here is substantively no different from supporting Alexei Navalny who is a “criminal” to the Russian govt... Nor supporting those in Hong Kong or the minority Uighurs, whom are “criminals” and “terrorists” to the Chinese government.
Nigerians do NOT have a dog in this essentially PROPAGANDA dog-fight... Hopefully, these influencers should ask questions (or be more circumspect), but there’s NO CRIMINALITY here! > |

Alejoas: They were openly supporting something they knew little or nothing about because they were recruited or induced. That is wrong in my opinion Presuming that they know little about the mater (and none of us know that for certain)... That may be “wrong” (perhaps unethical) but NEVER a crime, and should NEVER be made to look like it is. Many people who campaign (eg) for the Uighurs in China know very little about the facts (and frankly I don’t either). > |

You were paid paid in support of a crime that has made you a criminal weda you were aware or not.
They should be blocked from twitter permanently before they contaminate others who are genuine with huge followers with their leprosy.
2023 election is here I don't want to start seeing stuffs like vote Tinubu the Messiah or vote Atiku the next big thing after Jesus Christ. HUH?! Yet again, exactly how is it crime? If someone supports Derek Chauvin (or even OJ Simpson), did they commit a crime? Meanwhile, there’s something called the PRESUMPTION OF INNOCENCE... So not sure how you can leap to the conclusion of crime without a trial and conviction. Do you think lawyers commit crimes by taking money to defend criminals? Do you think that PR firms, lobbyists, publicists, etc., commit crimes when employed by accused people? Do you think that those campaigning in favor of Chinese Uighurs are committing crimes? Because the Chinese government has accused and labeled such Uighurs as criminals and terrorists. Abegi, I know “repeat-after-me” (cram-and-regurgitate) is a staple of Nigerian education... Alejoas: They were paid to add some pressure to the course of justice They were paid to influence public opinion... The “court” of public opinion is different from the court of justice.
Eg, social media influencers are carrying on about events in Hong Kong... Do you think it a crime to “pressure the course of [Chinese] justice” in Hong Kong?
The ONLY reason this is made to sound bad is because it’s anti-US interest... If this was (eg) anti-China or anti-Russia or anti-Iran interests, there would be NO stir.
That’s partisan HYPOCRISY... It has NOTHING to do with justice (or its purported subversion).> |

Business › Re: Dangote Is Selling Cement For 1,150 Naira In Zambia by 9jaRealist: 4:57am On Apr 08, 2021 |
Aconomist: 1. All cement companies around the world operate their own powerplants because its cheaper. This is not a disadvantage, it saves them money because they get electricity at or below cost. Regardless, all of that is included is his cost of production -- which is what we substract from revenue to get his profit (60% of revenue in Nigeria).
2. There is no such thing as a profit margin above 100% in business reporting. Profit is calculated as a percentage of selling price (revenue). You are thinking like a petty trader who doesn't understand accounting. And even in that sense, Dangote's profit margin would be above 100% because he is selling at more than double his cost of production.
3. Few, if any, manufacturing businesses in the west that earn profit margins like that. Not even pharmaceutical companies after factoring research expense, salaries and regulations. You Nigerians are really just poorly educated monkeys. I don't know what they teach you in school. This “monkey” can recall the cancer drug Lomustine priced at over 1000% its cost of production.... Meanwhile your uncouth juvenile insults merely betray your lack of a substantive argument and a crude personal upbringing. SMH > |
