Every so often, someone dredges up and writes a version of this same crap...
The nature of businesses and different industries (especially hydrocarbon-based) is changing globally.

In Nigeria, unlike Angola, São Tomé (where Nigerians have a significant presence in the oil sector), Gabon, etc...
Nigerians and Nigerian companies have developed a significant role in the sector - both downstream, midstream and upstream.

Thus, while in these other countries, oil and gas is an ENCLAVE economy (run by Oyibo and with little linkage to the local economy)...
In Nigeria, Nigerian companies and Nigerians are involved in virtually all aspects of the sector (upstream, midstream and downstream)!

The local content law in Nigeria has increased in-country and indigenous participation, and deepened linkages to the local economy...
It really pains me when Nigerians/Africans measure their own self-worth by Oyibo validation. Every challenge is an OPPORTUNITY!

Lagos State is supposedly a mega city but, just as every other state across Nigeria and a million others in Africa, the city is poorly-planned.

Poorly-planned streets, poorly-planned drainage system, poorly-planned night lighting, poor electricity supply and more other poorly-planneds and yet it is recognized as a mega city.

I wish there would ever be a means to transport every African to the Occident, for them to see such mediocre they have been celebrating and gloating about down here.

But in everything, Eko o ni baje!
Lagos is NOT “supposedly” a megacity...
It is ACTUALLY a megacity (defined as a city of 10 million or more residents).

As for planning, Lagos has grown largely ORGANICALLY...
Largely by ordinary Nigerians (and others) voting with their feet and flooding into Lagos.

These ordinary Nigerians trade on streets, on sidewalks, train tracks and along highways...
They turn residential buildings and zones into shops, business buildings, restaurants and markets.

They build houses on flood channels, and (as mentioned in the report) use drains as waste disposal points...
Ordinary citizens routinely drive against one-way, disobey traffic lights and signs, and even steal road furniture (guard rails, etc.).

Btw, under Nigerian law, state governments are NOT responsible for electricity distribution in Nigeria...
Nonetheless, Lagos has 5 IPPs that powers its water plants, govt buildings, courts, hospitals, tertiary schools, etc.

As I said many times on NL, Nigerians are the WORST thing to happen to Nigeria. And sadly, it seems that relatively progressive governments (such as Lagos’) often find themselves struggling to build 21st century infrastructure for residents with 18th century lifestyle habits.

I had my 5yrs old son in a Lagos State Government hospital. Even though the hospital is on the high side, their services were superb. I think Sanwo Olu should look into the cost of having children in their hospitals.
Lagos has a family health insurance scheme...
With it, you shouldn’t be paying for each treatment.

While any developmental projects are welcome.
Unnecessary boasting is not required.
The first statement is very misleading ,how can you claim you are the first subnational ,to build a metro.
If it's nigeria ,you are comparing ,then yes.
In Africa ,many cities have built their metro.
In world ,they are literally hundred of cities ,which has built they own metro,with little central government support
Lagos is the FIRST (and likely ONLY) sub-national govt to do so IN ALL OF AFRICA...

All the other metro rail systems in Africa are built and funded by NATIONAL governments.
Except for South Africa’s Guatrain, which is a BOT PPP project built/funded by the operator.

PS: Btw, it’s not “unnecessary boasting” when he was merely answering questions on a TV program.

For so many including me, NYSC has done more harm than good to us because it destroyed our beautiful relationships.

Mine was like a decade ago, she went for NYSC in Port Harcourt while I was residing in Onitsha. Throughout her service year, I wasn't able to visit her and as a honest partner, I always notice when things are going south.

A remarkable one was on a Valentine's day, she said they're doing get together in their compound that was why she couldn't pick my call. I called over 10 times she didn't pick till next day. Which kind get together? If you can answer my call in the presence of your parents and village people, who are your neighbor's that you can't answer my call in their presence.

Anyways, to cut short the long story, she came back after NYSC and immediately I saw her, I told her "I've lost you." I gave her food, while she was eating she was pressing her phone, I asked her to stop pressing phone and eat but she continued, I then took the phone from her and start going through.

It happens she was with a guy she met in a bus from Lagos to Onitsha (who would later become her husband) on that Valentine's day. She slept with one of the NYSC officials, had some smooching with her classmate. Omo, thank God for the kind of heart I get.

I pulled out of the trap same day, learned my lessons and moved on with my life.

That's it. Are you a victim of NYSC relationship brouhaha? Tell us your own story. grin grin
