However, a lawyer is merely an agent of his client, so he is not doing anything (much less “eject” the tenant) other than serve notice of his client’s intentions in respect of the property. Furthermore, the client is NOT “ejecting” the tenant either. He is merely essentially saying that when the rent runs out in 6 months, he has no intention of renewing/extending the tenancy agreement. The court cannot stop a landlord from reclaiming his property after the expiration of a lease term (if he had served suitable notice as per the lease agreement).

The landlord is NOT terminating your lease early (nor for failure to pay rent).

He is essentially merely notifying the tenant that, when the current lease term expires in 6 months, he does not intend to renew/extend the tenancy arrangement. Leases are not in perpetuity, and just as the tenant can decide not to renew and to leave the premises, so also does the landlord have the option not to renew nor extend an expiring tenancy (each upon suitable notice as provided in the lease agreement).

Personally, I think 6 months is more than reasonable enough notice (unless the lease agreement provides otherwise).

He merely seems to be notifying you that he does not intend to renew/extend your tenancy upon the EXPIRATION of the current lease term. Personally, I think 6 months is more than reasonable enough notice (unless your lease agreement provides otherwise). If I were you, I would use the 6 months to start searching for a new place.
