Nigeria's problems are not mostly from the government.. they're from Nigerians.

Just imagine how the media adulates and celebrates Otedola as a billionaire, blah, blah. How did he make his money? huh

As Nigerian citizens, we're being deprived of our basic ammenities of electricity and power which makes him a billionaire. You and I have to patronize his oil and gas to fuel our generators for power.

With people like these, the gov't and most importantly, the Nigerian people's mentality... we'll never progress or succeed as a people. angry
Is Otedola the Minister of Power? Abi na Petroleum?! shocked

Nigerians will go vote for NextLevel and yet seem bemused by their hardship. SMDH

if I get the kind of monopoly and the backing dangote is getting from the govt...who knows if he is even useing Nigeria as a collateral.
There’s NOT a single sector in Nigeria that Dangote has a monopoly in...

Cement: LaFarge, Heidelberg, Scancem, BUA, Ibeto, etc.
Sugar: Flour Mills of Nigeria (Golden Sugar), BUA Group, etc.
Flour Mills: FMN (Golden Penny), Honeywell, Olam, etc.
Tomato Paste: Erisco, Jos Tomato, smugglers, etc.
Rice: Stallion Group, Olam International, Croscharis, etc.
Petrochemicals/Fertilizer: Indorama, Notore, NNPC, retc.
Refinery: NNPC, Orient, 28 other licensees, etc.

Am i the only one who doesn't understand this? A mother (married I presume) doing face time with her ex boy friend, hears stupid things and tells her daughter who in turn, decides to inform us on social media. Maybe I don't get it, plz I need someone to explain the scene that just played out. Should a responsible woman that has a grown up daughter be chatting with an ex? Let alone doing face time. They must have been seeing each other and having sex i guess. Naija women are speedily turning to black Americans in the ghetto. Watch the MAURY show u all will understand.

EducationRe: Ilesanmi Adesida, First African To Head University of Illinois, Public Ivy in US by 9jaRealist: 6:51am On Apr 30, 2019
Respect to the dude...
BUT THE HEADLINE IS SIMPLY WRONG ON SO MANY LEVELS!

First, the University of Illinois system is headed by a President (just like most US universities), while each campus of the multiple-campus UI system is head by a Chancellor, and thus it seems that what Dr. Adesida was is head of academic affairs of ONE OF THE THREE CAMPUSES of the university - itself no mean accomplishment but not what the headline (or the ignorant Vanguard article) is proclaiming. Kudos to him.

Meanwhile, can we drop this so-called “Public Ivy” nonsense which is nothing but puffery?!

They have come again.

I’ve learnt very long ago that statistics can be skewed/ manipulated to suit the need of whoever is preparing it.

All this is to condition the subconscious mind of the unsuspecting populace towards a greater future cause.

So they are basically telling us that life in nigeria is worse than life in Syria or Zimbabwe or even Venezuela as it is at the moment or even Palestine where Israel has blocked all land, air and sea access to the people in that area basically locking them in a real life prison.

My level of exposure won’t allow me the stupidity to believe all this propaganda aimed at programming the mind of the people.
My Naija peeps don vex! grin

Always interesting how no one knows the population of Nigeria, but “know” how many extremely poor people are in Naija and our AVERAGE life expectancy (which requires population data to calculate). Garbage in, garbage out.

maestroferdi:
You are getting ridiculous...

Are you saying that Nigerians have an existential problem with making government endeavours work/thrive?

My friend think stuff through before hitting the keyboard...

A conscientious leader will out round pegs in round holes to ensure that processes and initiatives work.

The fundamental problem is that the so-called leaders themselves embody graft and official recklessness thereby confirming the aphorism/truism that one cannot give what they never had in the first place.

The problem of Africa begins and ends with the quality of leadership...

You dont spend tens of millions either to sink a borehole or to design a website which in each case cost a minutiae of their actual costs and then turn round and expect your followers to do otherwise.

The law of sowing and reaping is universal, my friend...
I am saying that in almost 60 years as an independent nation, Nigerian governments have not shown the capacity properly run businesses...

Coincidentally, somewhere in those 60 years, Nigeria has privatized banks, cement, fertilizer and petrochemicals companies, downstream oil companies, deregulated telecommunications and oil/gas services, and each has worked almost always (not necessarily always) better. Now, folks may want to indulge in theoretical discussions about “existentialism” but for whatever reason that’s the just the stark REALITY (see my moniker) of our collective national experience.

Perhaps, it IS a “problem of leadership” (personally that for me would be the subject of an entirely different discourse) but whatever it may be it remains OUR REALITY, and while theories and theses may well be all good and dandy, as I previously said, OUR own history should be OUR best teacher. The way science works (including social “science”) is that after repeatedly getting the same outcome from the same experiment, a theory is considered proven.

Meanwhile, we had a dude come along promising “change” in the quality of leadership, and we ended up as the poverty capital of the world.

Ibeto is importing cement, simple.

NO, we are not sufficient in cement production. Ibeto cement, Bua, Nigercem, etc are all imported.

Dangote also imports cement n bag it in Nigeria, but let's leave that for another day.

Nigercem Nkalagu has been shuttered for nearly 20 years, without producing/importing.

As a Nigerian entrepreneur myself...
I THINK THE REPORTER SIMPLY GOT IT WRONG!

Uncle Tony probably said/meant an average tax rate of 48% (after adding up the multiple taxes/charges)...
I can add up all the taxes/charges levied by the govts and regulatory agencies, and it doesn’t even break into double figures.

PS: PEBEC is also making it easier to pay all business taxes and charges through one single window.
