CelebritiesRe: No Nollywood Actress Makes Money Only From Acting- Rachel Lawani by 9jaRealist: 9:35pm On Jul 16, 2023
Monicaville:
Nollywood actress Rachel Owaika Lawani has denied the allegations that female actors in the industry are involved in prostitution to make ends meet. Reacting to the common allegations, particularly one made by a Nigerian evangelist on Facebook, Victor Edet sometimes back, who claimed that 48 out of 50 actresses in Nigeria are into prostitution.

Rachel in an exclusive interview with our correspondent, said that the evangelist's statement was baseless, false and defamatory. She said that she and many other actresses work hard to earn their income from acting couple with other legitimate businesses.

"Nollywood actresses are not prostitutes. We are professionals who are passionate about our craft and we deserve respect and recognition for what we do. The evangelist is just trying to tarnish our image and reputation with his lies," she said.

She also blamed some of her colleagues habit of painting the job as a very lucrative one, for the reason people who know better, often question their source of income. She said that any actress who tells you they make money solely from acting is just telling lies. She said that the movie industry in Nigeria is just a platform to get exposure and use the exposure for more opportunities in business.

"I am not going to subscribe to the notion that because there is no much money in acting, then actresses are selling their bodies, but sincerely there are a lot of us who are into one genuine business or another. Therefore some of our colleagues should stop deceiving young girls coming in that the industry is an avenue to blow up financially," she said.

Rachel said that the actors should learn to talk about the challenges in the industry so that they don't give the incoming ones a false hope, but they should be encouraging them to have an alternative source of income. She however hope that one day, the industry will grow to be one that most practitioners will be able to rely upon as their only source of income.
I stopped reading at “Nigerian evangelist…
There are probably no bigger FRAUDS and FINANCIAL PROSTITUTES on earth!

This is NOT a new concept….
In fact, many Nigerians have previously campaigned for this (including folks like Prof. Bolaji Aluko).

Essentially, the primary rationale goes to taxpayers benefittIng from their funding of the government of the state where they are RESIDENT. For example, if you live and pay taxes in State A, your kids should be able to pay subsidized (or, as in known in many parts of the CIVILIZED world, “resident”) fees to attend the State A University, rather than the kids of someone who is originally from State A but does not live and does not pay taxes (or has never lived nor ever paid taxes) in State A being granted subsidized “indigent” fees, since it is taxes that funds the State University - or it should be, but in reality most funding in Nigeria mostly come from ‘federal allocation’ largely derived from the economic and environmental GENOCIDE of my people in the Niger Delta!

All the people you listed won't risk their people and businesses by investing in hostile places where terrorists are in control, where people are slaughtered and forced to sit at home, where they close banks, burn Dangote delivery trucks and slaughter the drivers and where the leaders abandoned their authorities and surrendered to terrorists and so on.

These are the kind of failures many states transfer to Lagos , don't blame business and the people you listed for your own failure and inability to make your region conducive for them to invest.
Tragic ignorance…. grin grin grin

Dangote, Rabiu (BUA), Elumelu, Ovia, etc. have MASSIVE investments in the Niger Delta…
In fact, without crude from my “region” the Dangote Refinery that Lagos brags about would be NON-EXISTENT!

Meanwhile, as I previously pointed out to one of your primordial tribalistic ilk (see below)…
Without revenue largely from my “region’s” resources, Lagos would prolly been just like any other brown tin roof SW town. SMH

9jaRealist:
When the Nigerian government was using mainly crude oil revenues derived from the economic and environmental GENOCIDE of my people in the Niger Delta to build Eko Bridge (curiously when the native Lagosian Femi Okunnu was federal commissioner for works), rebuild and modernize Carter Bridge, build Third Mainland Bridge, Tin Can Island Port, expand the old Apapa Port, build Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Egbin Power Station, Tafawa Balewa Square, National Theatre, National Stadium, Festac Town, Badagry Expressway, Apapa-Oworonsoki Expressway, expand/rebuild Ikorodu Road, multiple ring-roads and flyovers, dredge the Outer Marina, etc., etc., you should have told them to abegi “leave Lagos for Lagosians” and non-Lagosian “Yorubas”.

With all DUE respect (emphasis on DUE), that was such a DUMB drivel. Next time, when you collect those taxes and tolls that you folks are always bragging about when driveling on about “internally generated revenue (IGR)”, why don’t you confine such tax collection to just “Lagosians and Yorubas”?! For, as the Americans would say (and fought a war over), NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION! A fundamental problem with so many Nigerians (living and building their states largely through the crude oil revenues from the economic and environmental GENOCIDE of my people in the Niger Delta) is a failure to recognize the nexus between TAXATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY. When you pay taxes, you have an absolute and unfettered right to question/criticize the spending of such tax revenues.

Meanwhile, no Nigerian should make any apologies wherever they choose to live in NIGERIA - nor be classified as second-class citizens!

The first sign of ignorance is when you see the phrase despite huge revenue.

Lagos income is below poverty level going by the population and the scope of responsibility.

The budget is even worse, it's between $3-4 billion per year for over 20 million people.

Lagos can never catch up in anyway until or unless the rest of Nigeria still transferring their failures, responsibilities and population to Lagos.

Buddha3:
It is not an arguable fact that Lagos State has not seen measurable development that is befitting of her status as a commercial city with a basic economic yield that eclipses about 50 African countries. In a manner of speaking, the annual revenue being disclosed to the NBS is actually well under half of what Lagos makes in reality. And for a state with a small geographical landmass, housing the population equivalent of two to three Northern states, Lagos is immensely overburdened, reason the very oxygen there is toxic enough to reduce the life expectancy of an average Nigerian by 10years.

That being said, it is important to remind the likes of the OP and others who find delight in meddling with issues concerning Lagos, that there's the need for you all to "LET LAGOS BE"!

Leave Lagos State for Lagosians. Whatever problems and challenges the state has, should be of no concern(s) to you. If you see the need to live or work there, do it in relative peace and self-awareness. Stop bothering yourselves with issues of no positive consequences to your lives. Yorubas and other Lagosians like the city as it is. Do not complain on their behalf. By virtue of studies and published analysis, Lagos is adjudged to be a sinking city that has been predicted to be swallowed by the Atlantic ocean in about 50years. If and when that should happen, leave Lagosians to mourn the loss.

I see no sense in making Lagos state your headache when you're peacefully residing in a far away state. Personally, even if a gun is put to my head, I won't live or work in Lagos State cause of my sanity. I spent 3years of my young life over there and the lawlessness and arbitrary living standards are not for me. So y'all should learn to find peace within yourselves and leave Lagos alone!

FamilyRe: My 17 Year Old Niece Is Addicted To Porn - Should I Intervene by 9jaRealist: 7:03am On Jul 14, 2023
questioner:
My mum has people staying with her - my niece, an extended family member and a close family friend and her daughter.
We are okay with it cos it ensures she always has company and reduces the need to always travel to check on her.

Recently the monthly subscription I do on the router at home, which usually has carry over data by the time it expires, now lasts about a week before they start calling me to renew
Everybody in the house denied being the cause of the data drain.

Last week, I came to spend some days at my mum's and first thing I did was to install a network tracker to monitor.
Long story short, I discovered the excessive consumption was from my niece but that's not the major issue.
She was visiting porn sites which was draining data but that's still not the major prob.
My problem was the frequency and how long she spent on porn daily.

The day I came, after she retreated to her room, the porn streaming started and didn't stop until the family member sharing a room with her came back at night.
The next morning once the other lady left for work, she continued with the porn until it was time to leve for her lessons.
Once she came back in the afternoon, she did some chores, ate, sat around the sitting room for a while and went inside
and boom the porn resumed until the other girl came around hours later. This was practically the routine for the 4 days I stayed there.

The day I was to leave I told my mum that I observed the drain came from my niece and blocked her from the router.
She called my niece and questioned her but she denied knowing anything about it, I spared her blushes by saying sometimes apps have background processes that consume data without the owner knowing.

Ever since, I have been wondering if I handled the situation properly.
I didn't confront her about it cos I was concerned about the embarrassment she will feel for a male family to find out about her secret.
She might even assume I have told my mum or my elder bro (her dad), which might weigh her down emotionally.

Also, I am concerned if this is a sign of promiscuity, she will be 17 next month And aside the fact that she's quite tall, she might as well pass for a 14 year old. She's barely endowed for her age- bottomline, not the kind of girl, you will associate with waywardness.

My question is
1. Would it have been better if I had confronted her
2. Is this a possible sign of promiscuity ? - if so, I will suggest mum sends her back to her Dad cos I am not sure at her advanced age
she should be dealing with issues like this, to avoid stories that touch later on
NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!

Globally, sub-Saharan Africa has the highest number of poor people. Sub-Saharan Africa is home to the majority of black people in the world. Thus, blacks in sub-Saharan Africa constitute the highest number of poor blacks. When compared with Brazil which has the highest number of people with Japanese ancestry outside Japan, we can see that Japan has the richest set of people with Japanese ancestry. AAs are the richest set of blacks globally. I am comparing blacks to blacks across regions, not blacks to other races.

The average Nigerian household is a poor comparison because there are fewer Nigerians in the US than the native black population. Funny how Nigerians are richer than AAs in the US meanwhile, Nigeria has the most poor people in the world.
You can blame that on Buhari and the APC… grin

Point is that because the US is the world’s richest-ever nation…
AAs in the US are generally the richest black folks because they earn American wages.

It’s essentially no different from average Nigerian household wealth in the US…

All secondary schools are equal, but some are more equal than others. Jephthah Schools, Ambassadors College, Loyola Jesuit, Graceland International Schools and the numerous Catholic-managed schools are good breeding grounds for academic excellence. I do understand that students from the likes of British International College, Grange Schools or the elite of elite secondary schools in Nigeria rarely write JAMB, but focus on SAT and IGSCE. However, I admire the earlier aforementioned schools for their academic excellence and moral upbringing. Ambassadors College and Loyola Jesuit tend to dominate WASSCE rankings, but that will require separate research on its own. For Ndi diasporans, I dare say Loyola Jesuit College is a better option than public and private schools in the US, Canada or UK or even Germany. The children get the academic The United States attracts the world’s best and brightest. No wonder she is the world’s greatest country. China, which I admire, tries but cannot try enough. The singular act of being able to get the best and brightest from all countries to study at your universities and participate in your economy is a bragging right and makes the US a superpower. The route to eventual naturalisation is tough though and it is a lottery system (https://www.nairaland.com/7535720/nigerian-students-now-americans-how). Marriage is the surest path because, without it, you fit sabi book yet find yourself kicked out because you don’t have the right visa or passports (some passports are more equal than others in accessing the US labour market). For a Black African and I dare say Black person anywhere, the US is the best place to thrive and succeed financially. No wonder African Americans are the richest set of black people globally.
Without prejudice to the rest of your post…

It’s only because they are Americans domiciled in America…
Looking at specific economic demographics, AAs are some of the WORST earners (even behind several immigrant communities).

Lol... don't be daft. Attended public schools all through my secondary. Never did anything at all with special centres, only scooped 4 Bs and 4 Cs. Had 303 in JAMB, 82% post jamb. Now in Unilorin studying MBBS. Were it not for the strikes, I'd have graduated.

Countless are in my class with better or top scores, yet graduands of public schools. The way you guys glorify private school sha, OP, Gerrard59, is culpable, with some snide remarks on public universities...

Lol... if I tell you how many profs are lecturing me. If I tell how much the global achievement of these folks are. If I tell you how National bodies presidents, like federal Anatomy and Physiology topmost bodies, are some of my lecturers, underlining the degree of national and regional administrative academic leaders I'm open to learning from. If I tell you how high the standards are. If I tell you how private schools try to lure these people, yet they stay, and only do part-time with them.
If I tell you how many of my public schools-schooled friends, with high JAMB scores, are on fully-fledged scholarships overseas, including Harvard and Oxford - just check out Adebisi Yusuff https://www.nairaland.com/6401080/meet-adebisi-yusuff-adebayo-graduate (UI, Now Oxford, 2022), Animashaun (Unilorin, Now Harvard, 2023), Basicity, Teslim, and so on, and so forth. Check the heads of most public and private enterprises...

You guys feed too much on publicity and media puddings and make the conclusion public schools are spiraling down, looool... comedians...
While the best public school students are at par with the best private school students…
Reality is that they are effectively outliers, and generally the best private schools are far better than public school counterparts.

It’s essentially no different from some Nigerian grads outperforming US grads…
But doesn’t change the macro reality that US universities are far better (and frankly far ahead) of their Nigerian counterparts.
