Let me just respond to the bolded by asking you, what was Nigeria's population in 2006 and what is Nigeria's population as at today? Please keep an open mind and you will appreciate the problem which Jonathan is facing.
143.3 million (2006)
167 million (2014)

source: World Bank

Tell me what effect this has on unemployment rate. Do you think you are dealing with an ignorant Nigerian? Unemployment rate in 2006 was less than 7%, can you guess what it is now? No need to try too hard, it is over 18%. Good job GEJ!

It seems you are not current or you just chose to harden your heart.
1. Is Naira the only currency that is losing value in the world? Please read about the present state of world economy.
2. Have you heard about SURE-P? Apart from what the FG has achieved with it, do you know that the funds are also disbursed down to States and LG levels?
3. Do you know that govt stopped equipping the military during the IBB era for fear of coups? So, just imagine the rot in the military before Jonathan took over.
4. It maybe unconstitutional but it has been there since 1985 (I stand to be corrected here).
5. Do you think the infrastructural decay of over 20 years can be remedied in a spate of 6 years? Please give kudos to Jonathan for the modest achievements so far. I believe he will do more if given another chance. Continuity is very paramount here.

My friend, lets be honest with ourselves, Jonathan has achieved more than most ex-presidents. Even Obj's performance is no where near Jonathan's. Obj is aggrieved for selfish reasons. The hues and cries that Jonathan has not achieved anything is pure politics to discredit Jonathan and it is done by those who want power shift to the North but not for development.
It is just unfortunate that insecurity has engulfed the NE part of Nigeria but remember that between 1967-1970, insecurity engulfed the SE part of Nigeria. So, it is a problem not new. We should be united with govt just like we did in 1967-1970 to restore peace.

NB: Sorry, I find typing difficult , so I have to stop here for now. Thank you.
Keep on deceiving yourself!
What was Nigeria's unemployment rate in 2006? What is it now?
You keep using military era and comparing it to a democratic government, it is only weakening your argument. Jonathan is a democratically elected president, who has failed to deliver on his promises. Obasanjo's achievements are still being enjoyed today by the average Nigerian, sure he was corrupt but he did something, he is a mster negotiator, something GEJ obviously lacks! Fashola is corrupt also but we can see his achievements. Why is it so hard for GEJ to improve the lives of the people he governs. Six years is more than enough to improve an economy but unfortunately you and other GEJ sympathizers will always ask for more, perhaps let's give him 20 years, how about 40, in fact let him remain there till Jesus comes, still he won't achieve anything. Security=zero, employment=zero, transportation=zero, economic growth=zero, how long must we tolerate failure? How long?

To the bolded, I will say, INEC may have based on the assumption that Buhari as a military general automatically has the necessary qualification. Having the requisite qualification is a constitutional requirement and not PDP's requirement.
I know you are not telling the truth that Jonathan's administration has not improved lives. If you know where Jonathan started from and where we are now, you will appreciate the modest achievements so far made by Jonathan's administration. If past leaders have achieved even half of what Jonathan has achieved, Nigeria would have been far beyond where we are now.
I know you will point at insecurity as Jonathan's failure but I tell you Nigeria fought the civil war in 1967-1970 and many were killed. I feel the military is contending with the insurgents and Jonathan is making every efforts to equip and fund the military. You will appreciate what Jonathan is doing if you remember that Nigeria stopped equipping the military since 1985, during the IBB era.
Another joke, at most this government is mediocre. Obasanjo's administration achieved far more than this president administration, we can't compare any other administration since most were under military rule and operate under a different constitution. Please when you try to support your stance try not to mix apples with oranges. Jonathan operates under a democratically elected government, he has every tool at his disposal yet he has failed the Nigerian people. We want a president that won't put the party's agenda above the Nigerian people, one who won't give terrorists amnesty at the slightest provocation. I ask you this, what is the value of your life? If our government cannot improve security, the condition of our roads and so on, then lives are not worth very much!

Note that more have been achieved after this publication. Thanks.
I can't help but laugh

• The first President and non-muslim to build Almajiri schools throughout Northern Nigeria. Until now, no government at state and local levels have deemed it fit that these Nigerians deserve rehabilitation.
• He took the courage to unbundle the Power Holding Company of Nigeria. We believe that very soon Nigerians will begin to see the effects of this bold step.
• Restoration of the railway system. The system has been moribund for the past 20 years. Feasibility of three others to open new railway corridors, which will be concessioned to local and foreign investors. Expected to create 10 million new jobs and cause inflow of 200 billion dollars investment into the country. Now, go and see these for yourself:
* Lagos-Kano train service is now fully operation after being moribund for more than 15 years
* Eastern rail line from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri
* Zaria/Kaura Namoda rail route
* Abuja to Kaduna 187 kilometre rail line
* Ajaokuta-Warri Standard Gauge Rail line
* Lagos-Ibadan new gauge rail line
• About 90% of 22 airports earmarked for rehabilitation and remodelling completed.
• Agricultural production has increased.
* Eliminating the corruption in the fertilizer distribution system, thereby ending the over forty year old racket and government subsidization of corruption
* The government intervention in rice production and other such initiatives resulted in the creation of more than two million new jobs among rural dwellers
* Cocoa export reached the highest level thereby creating a new set of millionaires. 900 million dollars worth of Cocoa exported, as non-oil revenue first time in decades
* Anticipated annual earnings of $136 million in foreign exchange from cassava which was exported for the first time in 2012 under the Vale Chain Addition programme of the Federal Government.
• Massive rehabilitation of roads throughout the country is ongoing via Subsidy Reinvestment Programme SURE-P. Checkout the following roads
* Abuja-Abaji-Lokoja;
* Benin-Ore-Sagamu dual carriageway;
* Onitsha-Enugu-Port Harcourt dual carriageway;
* Kaduna-Maiduguri dual carriageway;
* East-West Road
* Amongst others
• The SURE-P projects resulted from the partial removal of the subsidy on petroleum products:
* 500 Primary Health Centres (PHC) across the 36 states and FCT of the Federation
* Selection of 125 General Hospitals across the 36 states and the FCT
* Training of Nigerians across the federation on skill acquisition.
* Over 5000 jobs created in the health sector alone.
* Many more in the road maintenance sector.
• National dialogue
* This is a bold step to reinvent Nigeria
* For the first time, the no-go area clause is thrown into the dustbin, creating an atmosphere for Nigerians to sit down to jaw-jaw instead the war-war.
* To allow Nigerians define their own brand of democracy suitable to our diversity
• Upholding democratic tenets
* First President to declare a state of emergency without sacking democratically elected governments
* First President to embrace and brook opposition without the usual coercion using the Federal apparatus
* The most misunderstood, insulted and criticized, yet has remained focused without the usual abuse of office by use of ALL MEANS AVAILABLE.
We hope that this will culminate in a Nigeria where every citizen’s potential would be maximally exploited for the benefit of the country. If you can run, you will be encouraged to run very well; if you can jump, you will be encouraged; whatever you can do, you will be made to do it very well.
President Goodluck Jonathan has shown the road map to good leadership, which is the bane of the Nigeria project. He has consistently shown
• Commitment and respect to the rule of law
• Commitment to conducting free and fair election
• Commitment to participatory approach to resolving national issues
• Commitment to govern within the premise of the constitution of Nigeria
• Commitment to accountability as indicated by the performance contract signed by members of his cabinet and their subsequent presentation of performance card.
Is this a joke? 6 years of leadership, no employment statistics, inflation report or standard of living analysis, are you serious? All the Jargons listed above further emphasize how clueless this administration has been. How about you tell your president to answer just a few questions.

1. What is happening to the Naira, why is it losing value?
2. The money saved from the partial removal of subsidy, what is being done with it? How is it impacting the lives of Nigerians?
3. How come our military don't have the necessary equipments to defeat Boko Haram? What happened to the Defense budget?
4. WTF is the office of the first lady? Is it even constitutional? What purpose does she serve?
5. There's more to Nigeria than Abuja, LAgos or Port Harcourt? Why is the condition of federal roads so poor?

The list is endless, only a fool would give this president a pat on the back or say he's done a good job!

My brother,
You are being parochial and sentimental in your line of argument. With all what you posted, you have also categorized yourself among the "most Nigerians" you described in your 1st line.

Ask yourself these questions:

What does the constitution/electoral act say about an aspirant academic qualification? Forget the motive, forget PDP, forget the presidency.

Is it that INEC has not been doing due diligence? Forget that it is Buhari forth attempt.

What is the minimum standard?

And you are not being objective also if you say this government does not possess some positives. If for nothing else, the fact that people speak their mind and are not intimidated or molested is a plus. We not be there yet but we are on course.

Gej may not be the messiah we are looking for but Buhari neither the alternative nor the the change we desire. Buhari is a junta. Buhari and his team killed democracy when they toppled Shagari govt. Buhari does not have any moral justification to ask for my vote. It is said that when you eat your cake, you can't have it.

Let me rest my case here.
Regards,
Must you use military coups to justify your vote for a weak, mediocre president? Don't you people have credible accusations besides religion/tribal/military ones? You have no point, if you can't name how GEJ has influenced your life positively. Either say something meaningful or keep quiet!

Most Nigerians are gullible, daft and weak. Any little news we shout bloody murder, we don't use our brains to question the motive or source. It is clear PDP is doing everything to ensure that GEJ retains the presidency even if it means painting the opposition as an illiterate, insensitive, evil monster. This is Buhari's third time contesting as far as I can remember, his educational qualifications were never questioned before, why now? Furthermore it is clear that the present government is trying to cover up the fact that it is a failure with zero achievements for the last 4 years that they are willing to fabricate stories to keep Nigerians from focusing on the real issues: Poverty, poor electricity, bad roads, unemployment and lack of security.

You don't have to like Buhari, you don't even have to like APC but you'll be a fool to believe a man that was given 6 years to improve our lives and failed will do something good for us if we give him 4 more years!

you are supporting a candidate who (through his open defense of Fulani herdsmen) supports the idea of Fulani herdsmen invading farms and destroying crops -some of the agricultural foundations that Nigeria needs to develop away from over dependence on oil.
you are supporting a candidate with a hidden love for total sharia. He once voiced it.

let me tell you one thing: Nigeria is a developing 21st century African nation.
we certainly don't need people with your candidate's qualities at this stage of our development.
You are obviously foolish beyond recognition! It's funny how GEJ sympathizers love using the religion/tribal/military card whenever talking about Buhari or APC. Are you blind? Do you think support for Buhari is because he's a saint, heck no! Support for Buhari is because he has the balls to do what is needed. I've said it once and I'll say it again, if I invest ina business for 15 years and it did not yield any profit, no amount of evil forces will make me continue pouring money down the drain. we already have the change we need.
Nigeria is now the biggest economy in Africa thanks to sustained institutional development of all sectors of the economy.
A country like Nigeria can only develop institutionally, not around any individual.
We don't need any person who cannot understand roles of different branches of government in a democracy.
we certainly don't want anyone who may be tempted (like other ex-dictators before him) to "order" development or progress.
in this century, Nigeria does not need cult heroes. we need strong institutions, and current government is already hard at work at them.
that is why investors are flocking to Nigeria.
i became more convinced when I noticed that the price of oil fell, but the price of foodstuff fell rather than rise in Nigeria. shocked
that never happened before in Nigeria, but it is happening now.
we have the best heads in Africa managing our economy, and we have a president who finds it easy to allow and work with even the worst opposition elements in Nigeria.

Many of them still dream of a Biafran state, a dream that can never come true, they should be mad at their own leaders who promised them success but ended up compromising their future. Your retort isn't shocking because you've always shown that you have no knowledge of history. And you're no different from the educated illiterates who decided to model a country like Nigeria, after America.

If tribalism never helped in the advancement of Europe, why do you think systems of governments in Europe were created to recognise the tribal fault-lines, with autonomy/semi-autonomy for everyone? Ukraine is that last bastion on continental Europe, hence it's going through whatever it's going through now. And that's the problem with Africa, and Nigeria in particular, with the fictitious borders - and the utter useless system of government that doesn't give room for self-governance.

I honestly don't know why you're citing illogical examples to buttress your point. What's the correlation between the civili rights movement and indigenous folks co-existing within the same space? So, the struggle between two immigrant groups after the indigenous folks were destroyed can be equated to to this one, no? What rights and social justice are you fighting for in Lagos, questioning the language and tradition of the people, when you have your own region within the same country? How about start with your region, and show others how it's done? Oh, you still have intra-ethnic squabbles you can't fix - but when it's claiming other people's possessions, that's when the inconsequential American junk becomes applicable. It's basically greed and a case of trying to eat ya cake and have it at the same time.

The continent is hopeless cos it's populated by you and your ilk. And rather than analyse the structural problems on the continent, and proffer solutions based on that- you keep adding more problems to it with innate greed. Supreme minds understand the foundation of problems and proffer solutions based on that, while shallow minds copy and paste look for quick fixes everywhere.
How's Nigeria modeled after America? Why do you people love bashing the United States, have you all forgotten that the same Britain colonized both countries. You made a lot of sense in you post but abeg leave America out of it.....USA! USA!!USA!!!!

APC instigated Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as CBN governor to rubbish himself by insinuating that 30 billion dollars oil money was missing, latter he revised it down to 20 billion Dolars.

This is APC tactic of telling the electorate that Jonathan is corrupt. APC continues to drum it up as election nears, not withstanding the fact that Nigeria's competent authorities have said that no money was missing.

Some elements in APC are behind the fight to have Islamic sharia codes spread all over Nigeria as being fought for by Boko.

As Boko fights Nigeria for sharia, it has become APC tactic to convince Nigerians that Jonathan is a weak president.

APC employs fraudulent political strategies in its race to win Aso Rock. APC does this becos it knows that a vast majority of Nigeria's electorate do not have access to right information, they believe in hear-say.

In advanced democracies, APC with its fraudulent political strategies shall be consigned to the dust bin by the electorate

Please watch the video of Buhari waving his spear and telling his supporters to "kill them" you will be disappointed.
You're the one that needs to wake up. Forget about APC, forget about PDP. As a Nigerian citizen, ask yourself, what did my president accomplish during his 6 years in office? Why should I vote for him again? Remove religion, remove sentiments, can you be honest with yourself? Can this president bring economic development to Nigeria? Can he improve our security? Can he reduce corruption? In any democratic election, the opposition is usually the one with a negative campaign, the fact that PDP has nothing to talk about in terms of accomplishment says a lot about our government. I support Buhari not because of his religion or tribe, I support him because it can't get worse than the current government. The past 6 years, Nigeria has declined in almost every sector and yet we want to vote for the same government because the leader is a Christian or because he had no shoes, let's wake up and use our brain. Is it not funny that we did not see any twitter comments before buhari's candidacy was announced, is it a coincidence that PDP and GEJ's supporters are not talking about GEJ's accomplishments while in office but are rather bent on talking about the negatives of the opponent? if you think Nigerian politics is all about merit and not interest then you re naïve, when people start seeing buhari as a positive change then I knew Nigeria's problem will never be solved , we lie to ourselves a lot , reuben told all the apc goons on twitter to name ten things that buhari did in his previous regime, with cash price attached till now nobody could name up to 4, I pity this country
Can you see how primitive you are? Look at the bolded statement, you want to compare military rule to a democratic rule, are you okayhuh You and Reuben must be smoking crack, the real question you should be asking is what has GEJ accomplished during his 6 years in office? I dare you to name 3, don't stress yourself too much trying to come up with an answer!

BUHARI IS NEVER CHANGE BUT A RETURN TO DEEPER MEDIOCRITY AND EVIL DOMINATION FOR NIGERIA.
Your propaganda will never work, Nigerians can see past your illusions! You want us to keep enduring years of mediocrity, years of excuses upon excuses. 16 years of hopelessness, common Ghana has stable electricity yet the giant of Africa does not. What achievement can this government boast of? Overwhelming failure and yet you want to continue with the same story, this year of 2015, Nigeria's story must change for the better, say NO to failure and YES to change!!!!

Bro, I had to log in to like your comment. It grieves my heart when people justify their call for the retention of the PDP on the fact that a majority of politicians in the APC fell out with the PDP. Even worse is the assertion that the APC candidate is old and has nothing to offer. These same folks were offered Utomi, Ribadu, Okotie at some points and they still had their excuses. Until we accept that it's only APC that provides an alternative to PDP, an act as appropriate, we shall continued to be held hostage. Whereas an incumbent offers incompetence and cluelessness while seeking to amplify all the things that divide us as a nation, we now have someone making a commitment to fight corruption, at least. Yet dem no go let us hear word
Well said.....I'm not even in support of APC, I'm in support of change. Currently APC is the only opposition we have to PDP, I would think sensible Nigerians would want to vote PDP out by all means, any other country would have revolted by now don't know why Nigerians are so comfortable with suffering. Gone are the days of e go better, this is the 21st century, e no go better for person wey e no go better for, let's use our hands to shape our destiny, PDP must go!

I so much luv this piece by a Nairalander
"APC: What manner of change?

The APC has been consistent in saying that the PDP has ruled Nigeria for 16 disastrous years inwhich corruption, impunity, insurgency, armed robbery and several ills of society held sway. But a very close look at the APC, I am seeing Amaechi - 8yrs speaker; 7yrs governor under PDP, Atiku - 8yrs Vice president under PDP, Akume -8yrs governor under PDP, Bukola Saraki - 8yrs governor; 2yrs Senator under PDP, Timipre Sylver -4yrs governor under PDP, Audu Ogbe - 2yrs chairman of PDP, Aminu Masari - 4yrs Reps speaker under PDP, Chris Ngige - 3yrs governor under PDP, Kwankwaso - 7yrs governor, 3yrs Defense minister under PDP, El-Rufai - 4yrs FCT minister, 2yrs BPE chairman under PDP, Oyinlola, 7 and half years governor under PDP, Segun Oni, 3 and half years governor under PDP, and to cap it all they went to OBJ begging, a man who they claimed spent 8 of the disastrous 16 yrs as the maximum ruler of Nigeria to come and lead them on a rescue mission.

It is now clearer that APC is a waste basket of the PDP, where the people who created and perpetuated the "16 Disastrousyears" are now dumped.

Please Nigerians what is the change in this APC?"
Like I said this is not about individuals but the party. A democratic country is supposed to have two or more equally powerful parties capable of governance. Since 1999, it's been PDP, it hasn't worked out, why not try the other party? Why would one party hold an entire country hostage? Let the opposition get a taste of power, let's see how they would perform. By your logic, APC is a recycled branch of PDP so we should not vote for APC, we should continue voting for the same PDP and hope one day uncle Jona and other PDP goons find it in their kind hearts to do something about the plight of the Nigerian people......NO NO NO!!!! The wind of change can no longer be ignored, there are many candidates out there that would thrive under a new opposition government(Imagine Fashola being in charge of Roads and transportation, Oshiomole in charge of defense, imagine cancellation of the office of the first lady, all these are possible with a new government led by the opposition). Finally in order for a country to develop, it must let any group or party know that they in no shape or form can never be greater than the people. Government is we the people, by the people, for the people. If we can vote PDP out, the next government would want to perform well because they would realize just how powerful the masses are. Forget sentiments, leave behind tribalism and let's use common sense for once!
