rvp20182: It will take a lot of hard work to fix Lagos. First gov just needs to start zoning laws. They will declare illegal to roof a house with zinc or tin. The owners will have to bring down their roof and roof properly. 2ndly they declare they must re-paint the buildings. Plant flowers, trees and the works.
It won't just happen. In Nairobi - City authority - regularly orders people to re-paint their houses. They also have strict zoning laws. And strong resident associations. Mombasa ordered people to even paint in only two colors.
Gov has to interfere on people's live to make sure they don't live like rodents.
Lagos - start with zoning laws - choose roofing materials - colors - and name it. Also, start tree planting - and beautifications.
Those unable should sell their land to keep up with standards and go to low-income areas.
You cannot have everyone doing whatever they want There are already zoning lawsin place but Nigeria has a large population so it is hard to maintain , And you need to stop acting like Kenya doesn’t have slums either. |

rvp20182: The difference btw Kenya and Nigeria slums. Nigeria slums are legal. In Kenya they are illegal and constructed with temporary materials - because they will eventually be demolished. They don't have title-deed - and are not expanding. They are established along river beds or public reserve land - so nobody can invest serious money in them.
Now for Nigeria - you have allowed 85% of your city to turn into a huge integrated slumpolis.
And as Abbhoy said - the only solution is demolition.
And strictly enforcing zoning and building codes.
Otherwise as long as anybody can do anything in Nigeria - you're creating an urban jungle.
You're ready to pay the price. In Kenya we demolish multi-million houses routinely. I agree with you in most parts but 85% of Lagos is not slum, the buildings in Lagos island, have zinc roofing which makes them rusty, and the buildings scare very old and near collapsing I would say 60-70% of Lagos is slums but not 85% let me show you a map of Lagos and circle the areas with slums

I will not even lie, 85 percent of Lagos island is a slum, thst is a fact poor roofing, old buildings but there is now hope because they have just finalized the design of the Lagos island regeneration plan, it basically entails moving some of the people currently living in those buildings to the new ilubirin housing scheme, rebuilding the balogun market and turning it into a massive mall, than demolishing the rest of the buildings and turning them into high rises see pics down below, the last pic is construction progress on the low cost apartments for the people living in the slum of Lagos island.

Nairaland General › Re: Is Akwa Ibom State Becoming The Nigeria Of Our Dream? by Abohboy: 9:55pm On Jun 30, 2020 |
Uyo, Ikot ekpene and eket need some sort of masterplan to control the growth of the cities, and stop the creation of slums anywhere in the city currently Uyo is growing uncontrolled which cannot happen. |
Nairaland General › Re: Is Akwa Ibom State Becoming The Nigeria Of Our Dream? by Abohboy: 9:49pm On Jun 30, 2020 |
All they need is to these three things because every thing else is coming well on it’s own they need to build better houses, of the standard in America well planned neighborhoods, than they need to provide water for all the citizens, than the last thing is to establish public parks and forest reserves across the state than it can be considered a developed state. |

gallivant: Sorry bro. We dont shop in Nandos, Steers, Shoprite or at Furniture palace. We also wont drink castle beer. We have learned how to intentionally avoid South African products on a national scale. You can thank the beer wars between EABL and SA breweries for this predicament. But you do eat rocomamas, the other day someone posted a pic of a rocomamas in Nairobi that was packed to the brim, and guess what it’s a South African company. |

rvp20182: Typical houses in Mombasa middle class - I don't understand how Nigeria and Ghana - west Africans - destroy their environment and erect ugly concrete structures. Lies, typical upper class house, the average person in mo,bass lives in the slums, majority of the population doesn’t live in Nyali or island. |

lordaltruist: Bro trust me when I say that the place to be now is Akwa Ibom State why because it is the only and fastest growing state in Nigeria.
Akwa Ibom as a state can not be compared to the states that were created along with it and today even states that were created before her are envious of the pace at which it's developing.
So trust me when I say that your investment in Akwa Ibom State won't go in vain; there are better government policies to see that your investment meets its purpose compare to other state; secure, peaceful and serene environment with welcoming people too.
My uncle just moved to Akwa Ibom State and he is already telling me had it been he knew he would have moved earlier that there are so many opportunities to tap from in the state.
I myself I am looking at moving there to start up a business idea cause as a fast growing state, any business that come in now takes the biggest share. It’s not my business. It’s the business of someone I met through twitter. |

Hunchogee: Meanwhile I saw you posting electric car stuff.. Can you elaborate more It’s an American electric car company, named mims motors. 100% black owned car company. And their cars have more mileage than any other electric car on the market. So I contacted him on twitter to talk about setting up plants in Africa. And he said he had plans of setting up one in akwa ibom and also building a power plant, which was very interesting. He plans to start production by 2021. |

Hunchogee: Find blow update of Ibom Tropicana amusement park Blue print pix While the third picture is the Ibom Tropicana hotel that was abandoned but luckily for her we now have investors for her Nice. Now all akwa ibom needs is better housing and real estate the roads are good, the airports are good, hotels are good, malls are good, food is good. All that is waiting is for there to be more high class residential areas so people can move into the city. It just makes it look better by 2025 I see Uyo being named one of the cleanest, best planned and eco friendly cities in Africa. |

DuwaRepublic: Not sure why mims is trying to combat tesla in Nigeria, most Nigerians can’t afford Teslas Check the website the cheapest car is about 10 000 dollars much cheaper than Tesla. That’s the competition higher standard cheaper price, they’ll destroy Tesla in a few years |

Hunchogee: My brother everything has is reason, am not the governor mind is to share what I saw to interested people ... when I ask the security man at the site he said the governor want to build a signature project to stamp that Akwa Abasi Ibom state is indeed a Christian state...so is not my call and I think is a win win thing Yh it will attract hundreds of thousands of tourists around the world, t come to akwa ibom and see this. But we need to develop other forms of tourism in akwa ibom like an amusement park and a beach resort. There is a need for many more five star and four star hotels all around akwa ibom. Currently we only have two. Akwa ibom needs to invest in tourism and agriculture those are it’s two main points of growth. |
