Even the Bible asked us to "seek Knowledge" first.

Those who have Knowledge (sound education) will never worry about Money because "Money will keep chasing after them".
Go and look at guys working in places like LNG, Chevron, e.t.c whose earnings are just too embarrassing to mention, legitimate money!

And they do not have to kill or ritualize someone or pirate somebody's work or import fake products or kidnap anyone!

Fools run after Money while the "wise" seek knowledge.... which adds unlimited wealth.

If you see a University graduate who says his Degree is worthless, you have seen a graduate who mostly likely cheated to graduate.

Yeah, I know right, it doesn't correlelate one bit, I am sure those who even had A's in the course would have forgotten how they did it. In Nigeria universities, we are only taught to forget, that is, for only exam purpose.

A particular lecturer taking me Ecn- macroeconomics: he teaches well though. But when hr gets to a point he says things like "I don't need to teach you this part, I didn't set it as your exam question, you don't need to know it". If we even go further to read up and ask questions about that which he said we do not need in class, the man would flare up and would almost storm out of the class.

I doubt I would even use my degree to work, sometimes I pray I get quick funds to move on with various business ideas I have.

the man has taught you the one he understood na,this idea of teaching only the part the teacher understands is also rife in our secondary schools is primarily responsible for the poor performance of students.

Though, in my 100level, we did a university required course in Computer programming just for a semester. But totally doesn't relate with accounting as we were busy writing codes to build a GP calculator.

GP as in geometric progression? what language was used? it surely has no correlation with your course of study.

i guess you must be a student of unn?what they're teaching there is simple library science, they added the information science to the name because they were not getting enough students and therefore needed a change of name to deceive unsuspecting students into applying for the program, even the library science they're teaching there is archaic and does not reflect the modern needs and skills needed for the profession. a similar fraud is been perpetuated at the department of archeology and tourism,likely the department of theatre arts and film studies too.

Lol, very true, for someone like me in department of accounting. My lecture is still what my dad learnt when he was studying like me as well. Plus so many irrelevant courses. Left to me,4years programme would conveniently run for a year if all is done well.

i honestly share your views, check out the course outline for most universities abroad and you would realise just how backward the system is,you would likely not even get enough computer/management information system practicals to be much useful to an employer upon graduation or setup a business of your own right away, that's why many white people with technical certificates are stealing jobs from us in this country with their skills.

it might mean something else, in many Nigerian university departments, you actually learn the same thing from your second year to your final year, they would just be rehashing almost the same material and even assignments.

You may care to know that of she tries that in one of those sane countries that she is importing drugs from, she would be in jail faster than she can call Panadol.

The Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria (PCN) has been having a running battle with these sort of QUACKS for some time now.

The problem with most Nigerian is that they "confuse" HAVING MONEY, with KNOWLEDGE!
Any fool can stumble on Money, steal Money, do Yahoo-Yahoo to get Money, Sing to get Money, Loot treasury to get Money, e.t.c.... especially in a corrupt society like Nigeria.
But it takes TIME, EFFORT, INTELLIGENCE, PATIENCE and DEDICATION to STUDY and ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE.
Not everyone can muster those qualities..

That is why they say " A fool and his Money is soon parted".

Infact, this thread has revealed a lot about those Nigerians who are academic failure, who in turn want ot encourage others ot be like them, as a sort of consolation.

they are into importation not dispensing or retailing, the manufacturing companies abroad must be certified by nafdac,the imports subjected to both regular and random tests etc,what they're doing is 100% legal in any country, they make use of a pharmacist and obey all prevailing laws, if I'm to follow your thinking, then only pharmacists would own any nafdac license even for the production of sachet water but the truth is that anybody can get those licenses by following laid down laws and procedures. let me give you an anology using building, most contractors in the USA actually design their houses, but they would a certain amount to an architect or certified building designer or employ one in their company to look through it and place their seals on it in order to get building approval,thus you can actually own a design and build company without actually been an architect or engineer. in most places, most classes of simple buildings might be approved without those seals.

Thus, learning is meant for university while training is for colleges, polytechnic etc

Nigeria is a developing economy and the kind of jobs it can attract are mainly ones that require low and medium level technology and this is where the problem lies.......
The Nigerian graduate is not trained to function at this level of technology.........
the Nigerian graduate is largely unskilled n untrained, all he has is a certificate. unfortunately, the system gas no use for this........

Therefore, the Nigerian educational system should focus on developing capacity building on low to medium level technology to enhance industrial production and capacity through production of skilled and trained workforce.........
This should be the bedrock of our development.....

Low and medium level technology is what is needed to operate simple n complex machines in factories; establish low and intermediate scale manufacturing; production of consumer n household goods; produce basic pharmaceutical; engage in shipbuilding and steel manufacturing; electronic n car assembling plants; solar technology; produce skilled technician that can construct roads, bridges, tunnels, skyscrapers; establish a vibrant textile industry that can compete against foreign imports; modernise our agriculture esp in the area of irrigation, storage n preservation, mechanization; training quality artisans that not only replicate but also add value to jobs given to them; development of the value chain in our industrial sector......
we also don't need graduates to work in majority of jobs available in our service sector........
if the job is not highly specialized requiring specific skills, then a diploma certificate holder will suffice.
and our technical institutions can be responsible for that.......

govt needs to revive our comatose technical institutions scattered all over the country, they should be adequately funded n their curriculum be structured to fit the need of our present economy.

skill acquisition n practical learning should be the bedrock of these institute and industrial training should be introduced right from year one.
there should be less of classroom learning n more of work experience.
courses that has no practical basis should not be offered in these schools, there's really no point.

90% of our teeming youths seeking higher education qualification should be encouraged to attend these schools as this is what the country need right now.

entry into main university should be cut down to less than 10% of its present number. the country do not need so many graduates right now.......
what it has managed to do is breed a bunch of frustrated graduates as evidenced by comments in this thread......

let's do this and watch as our nation become an industrial giant 10 yrs after its implementation......

When I was in school then, one of my lecturers who took us "Synopsis of Motor Vehicle Technology", I used to rate that he was very intelligent then. it was when got into the field I knew He knows nothing about vehicles but only the theory.

I can't make use of his textbook again because it is rubbish to me. Nothing inside except theory and the theory is lacking not in details.

ha ha, you can easily make an a in a course in photogrammetry and aerial photo interpretation without seeing a single aerial photo, same goes for courses in geographic information system. the oil companies would rather give such jobs to foreigners with a good technical school education or previous working experience.

To buttress my point further I know of one hausa man who took to farming and was successful, he ended up employing MSc holders and contracting doctors and professors, of wch most of them still use Sir even wen older than him.
U can argue with me but trust me our system only breeds crammers I call them superficial learners, too synthetic, its d reason y 90% of core members today can't even write a good official letter, some don't even know how to write cover letters or prepare a résumé. But will u blame then NO!!!! because this students r a product of either an institution that employs quack lecturers or like I said d lecturer himself can't even deliver d msg.
Imagine what Nigeria would be if our parents had allow every child to manifest their talents.
