BusinessRe: Will A Large Supermarket Thrive In Nigeria? by abujabooks(f): 3:12pm On May 02, 2008
A big supermarket like Tesco will definitely work in Naija.

There is a supermarket called "shoprite" owned by South Africans in V.I.

We need more supermarkets.

Large land, with parking facilities will be ideal. Outskirts of Lagos - you will find cheap land.

BusinessRe: Opening A Store by abujabooks(f): 2:39pm On May 02, 2008
Diversify by selling different things in the shop. I don't know anything about Port-Harcourt, so you will have the research the market.

Personally, I will sell Christian books, computer accessories, charge cards, naija movies rental, some household appliances such as kettles, irons, rice cooker.

The reason for diversifying is that, you don't know what will sell initially.

TIP - Make your shop look appealing, organised and neat to the customer and not cluttered.

Have you heard of "Tesco" in England? They have diversified to the full extent.
BusinessRe: What Should I Import To Nigeria by abujabooks(f): 2:34pm On May 02, 2008
Computer accessories and mobile phones.
BusinessRe: Starting Ice Cream Business by abujabooks(f): 2:24pm On May 02, 2008
Ice cream business. Um! Personally, I won't go for this because you need electricity constantly and it is perishable. Invest the money in stocks at Initial Public Offers and let your money work for you.

If you really need to do a business, try and sell things like computer accessories. You will always make a profit and they are not perishable.

To your success.
BusinessRe: Opening A Gift Shop by abujabooks(f): 2:20pm On May 02, 2008
You can also sell things like kettles, irons, deep fat fryer, rice cooker, small household appliances. These are things that will sell all year round.

To your success.

Next clothes, shoes, bags, anthing "Next". For the best time to buy in the UK, December and August sale. Go to the "Next Clearance" shop in Lakeside, Essex. You will find massive reductions in everything.

TM Lewin shirts for men is good as well.

Primark clothes for the cheap end of the market.

Good luck.

@Crown007 and Ebonyj,

Go to the thread "Stock tips for nigerians". Start reading from page 1 and you will know everything you need to know about stocks. The thread has really helped me. But, I have realised that, what works for me is the Public Offers and the Initial Public Offers.

Check out these sites, I use them weekly:
www.nigeriansecurities.com - portfolio management of your stocks.
www.proshareng.com - information about everything happening in the Nigerian Stock Exchange
www.cashcraft.com - market trend - I don't use them.
www.zenithsecuritiesng.com - daily prices of stock.

I hope this helps.

To your success.
