Romance › What Do Women Really Want? by acorntree(op): 7:31pm On Jul 25, 2018 |
Young King Arthur was ambushed and imprisoned by the monarch of a neighboring kingdom. The monarch could have killed him but was moved by Arthur's youth and ideals. So, the monarch offered him his freedom, as long as he could answer a very difficult question. Arthur would have a year to figure out the answer and, if after a year, he still had no answer, he would be put to death.
The question?... What do women really want? Such a question would perplex even the most knowledgeable man, and to young Arthur, it seemed an impossible query. But, since it was better than death, he accepted the monarch's proposition to have an answer by year's end.
He returned to his kingdom and began to poll everyone: the princess, the priests, the wise men and even the court jester. He spoke with everyone, but no one could give him a satisfactory answer.
Many people advised him to consult the old witch, for only she would have the answer.
But the price would be high; as the witch was famous throughout the kingdom for the exorbitant prices she charged.
The last day of the year arrived and Arthur had no choice but to talk to the witch. She agreed to answer the question, but he would have to agree to her price first.
The old witch wanted to marry Sir Lancelot, the most noble of the Knights of the Round Table and Arthur's closest friend!
Young Arthur was horrified. She was hunchbacked and hideous, had only one tooth, smelled like sewage, made obscene noises, etc. He had never encountered such a repugnant creature in all his life.
He refused to force his friend to marry her and endure such a terrible burden; but Lancelot, learning of the proposal, spoke with Arthur.
He said nothing was too big of a sacrifice compared to Arthur's life and the preservation of the Round Table.
Hence, a wedding was proclaimed and the witch answered Arthur's question thus:
What a woman really wants, she answered... is to be in charge of her own life.
Everyone in the kingdom instantly knew that the witch had uttered a great truth and that Arthur's life would be spared And so it was, the neighboring monarch granted Arthur his freedom and Lancelot and the witch had a wonderful wedding.
The honeymoon hour approached and Lancelot, steeling himself for a horrific experience, entered the bedroom. But, what a sight awaited him. The most beautiful woman he had ever seen lay before him on the bed. The astounded Lancelot asked what had happened
The beau replied that since he had been so kind to her when she appeared as a witch, she would henceforth, be her horrible deformed self only half the time and the beautiful maiden the other half.
Which would he prefer? Beautiful during the day... or night?
Lancelot pondered the predicament. During the day, a beautiful woman to show off to his friends, but at night, in the privacy of his castle, an old witch? Or, would he prefer having a hideous witch during the day, but by night, a beautiful woman for him to enjoy wondrous intimate moments?
What would YOU do?
What Lancelot chose is below. BUT... make YOUR choice before you scroll down. OKAY?
Noble Lancelot said that he would allow HER to make the choice herself.
Upon hearing this, she announced that she would be beautiful all the time because he had respected her enough to let her be in charge of her own life.
Now... what is the moral to this story?
The moral is.....
If you don't let a woman have her own way...
Things are going to get ugly. |

Don't come to Canada with super high expectations or you will be disappointed quickly. If you have a great job with good benefits where you are, pls. stay there. A lot of high skilled immigrants I've met as an employment counsellor who helps to find jobs in Canada are demoralized as they can not find equal level jobs they left back home. Know this, your skills are not considered comparable. Period. You will start from the BOTTOM! Discrimination exist covertly. Your accent, communication skills, your ability to convey knowledge/ experience in the Canadian context might differ from what You are accustomed to. You will have to be on top of your game. It might be about who you Know. Networking is sometimes key. Know your job description well. Interviews are not about knowing your skills. It's also about that and more. Chance are you don't don't have appropriate answers. What they need, want to hear. Chances are you did not know what they want because you did not read, research and learn about the company and industry and job duties, you did not research the Canadian context of the job. It's cumbersome if not prepared. Another idea per my experience, remove countries you've gained experience or worked in from resume to gain attention clear and void of what's deemed foreign experience, not canadian experience. I came here in 2007. I speak well. Even with a good amount of good American accent in Canada, unless nervous then it shows. I know my shit! In fact my name could never tell that I am black, African. I get the interviews but once they are my black face, all else changed. So beware folks! Unless your life is threatened in your country. If you have respect in your profession and a good job where you are, stay put. North America, Canada is no joke for those educated people, secure in your knowledge, you will have to start from the begining even with Phds. Medical doctors. Master's from abroad… think carefully before you come! Consult an employment counsellor and even they can not predict your future. I have been there. Just saying! |

Entry level engineering job doesn't require you to have been registered with coren. You need to work for some years under a certified engineer before you can be registered. you need registration when you are gradually becoming manager or HOD in your chosen profession else you may not be promoted to or beyond certain level. No company or establishment will require a young graduate to have registered for any entry level job. registration is only needed for experienced people. Engineering is not like medicine where you become a doctor out of school. Engineer need experience. No where in the world you become a certified engineer out of school. Pupil engineer need on the job training. you're expected to go through a professional training/tutelage. you need to gain experience under or supervised by a certified engineer in your industry or field. Note: the argument here is baseless. Those engineering graduates calling themselves Engineer are absolutely ignorant. Their engineering education has only exposed them to science of engineering not engineering practices or techniques. they need to add value in their chosen profession before they earn like or even more than their counterpart medical doctors. Adding value comes from years of experience which many young engineers lack. |

I told my friends I won't buy even a pencil for the man because I have fulfilled my part going by the school regulations and paid my fees/dues so I see no reason giving gifts conditionally.
Like joke this man gave me 12/60 making it 43/100 and my CGPA dropped dramatically, funny thing is, everyone was blaming me for not doing the needful. I was just surprised and laughing. EternalTruths: The problem is not mental inferiority but mental laziness.
Black people don't treasure Research & Development.
Black students are not ready to spend money to learn more but are ready to spend on unnecessary things.
I have seen professors who shy away from Research & Development simply because they don't want to stress their mind and spend their money/time.
Most importantly, our Universities are not Research & Development based but just classroom based because we place more emphasis on lecturers than Researchers.
We don't even have a cadre for Researchers as we do for Lecturers, Technologists and Technical staff.
Our universities are not attached to any private company for financial support in the area of R & D and Infrastructural development.
We have not even made it mandatory for each department/faculty to have a yearly R & D project work that involves all the Students in all levels.
@ Rossikk talk is cheap but action cost lots of sweat. lecturers are called researchers by their nomenclature. You can't become professor without being a researcher-- you have to write hundred of research papers b4 you will be promoted to a professor. The problem is with the irresponsible government that we have. |

ken4jj: This is a long write up but it is very good to read for people who always compare Nigeria to the western countries
The problem with Nigeria is our mentality. An average Nigerian is all about money, money, houses, SUV etc and this is why this question is always coming up. Because of our greed and our ability to acquire, acquire and acquire, our society have been built on storing money, properties. It is not surprising to see Nigerians in Nigeria with fat bank account, many houses with high fence and big gate, high SUV yet the street they live is littered with bad roads and full of generator noise because that is what we care about.
The western world is different because they are not built for people to store money. Their system is designed for money to circulate. This is why even services we pay peanuts for here is Nigeria is costly abroad. Everyone is given the opportunity to live a base life and if you want to be rich you can use your brain and do something extraordinary. For example, a barber, cleaner, nanny etc in the western world has the opportunity to live a normal life. He can save a little money, make a little down payment and buy a house or car on mortgage despite being just a barber. He gets to enjoy his tokunbo car and 2 bedroom apartment even though he is paying for it in the next 10 years. Even if he dies before he finish paying, he cannot say that he didn’t enjoy the basic things of life. Enjoying the basic things of life is not left for the rich alone. In Nigeria, some people can never enjoy the basic things of life forever. For example, a cleaner, nanny etc can never buy a car because Nigeria is designed for the rich to exploit the poor and there is no buffer to help the poor.
A top bank manager earning more than 1 million naira a month cannot bring out 50k to pay a Nanny or gateman. Instead he will go and bring one Ekaite from the village whom he will exploit as slave. Ekaite will do all the jobs in the house and will not even go to school for the first 3 years. After 3 years, they will now send her to a local school where children sit on the floor even though their own children are going to posh schools. During Christmas, they give Ekaite’s family a bag of rice and 20k and the family is happy due to poverty. But this same man store millions of naira in his account and building lots of houses yet his gateman is just paid 10k a month. In the western world, the bank manager will have over 60% of his earnings go into the payment of other services. That means he will pay the Nanny, guards, gardeners, cleaners, barber etc that works for him an hourly minimum wage. So he has little money to save and build mansions here and there but the good thing is that the people in the lower cadre live a normal life off him and the money circulates.
The Nigerian society is built for exploitation unlike the western world. The greatest disservice to poor man in Nigeria is that they are not paid hourly. The rich man/organizations takes all their time and pay them pea nut at the end of the month but a poor man aboard can work 24 hours and be paid for those 24 hours if he has the strength.
So before you travel, you need to understand how the western society works and what exactly you want. If your aim is to make millions and become rich, build houses here and there, the western society is not for you, you can become rich easier in Nigeria. It is only in Nigeria, you can become rich overnight. You can go to china, import some substandard goods into the country, bribe SON and customs and sell your goods and make mega millions in a jiffy and build your mansions here and there. If you run a business, you can avoid paying taxes, just tip the FIRS and they would look the other way and you take those taxes you should have paid and build mansions for yourself, you are rich! The FIRS,Custom, SON guys make mega money and build their own mansions, you make your own mega money too, the ordinary people and the government are shortchanged but the govt is not bothered because they loot their own from crude oil directly. In fact, Nigeria is a goldmine if you have the mind and can throw away your conscience. Dem no born you well to not pay your taxes in the western world or do anyhow in the western world.
If you work in many organizations, you may not have to touch your salary because you will be getting illegal cash every day. For example, if you work in immigration, you will be getting 3k, 4k from people who want to get their passport else they may have to wait for one year to get it. If you work in universities, you will be getting extra 3k, 4k, 2k from people who wants their transcripts else they will look for your results for the next one year and so many examples. If you add up this monies, you can see that you are getting more than your salary from your little office. No wonder these civil servants you see have a lot of money. This is what you can never get abroad.
So you can see that it is easy to make it in Nigeria but it comes at a cost. A country where nothing works. No light, no water, bad roads, bad schools, hospitals, insecurity etc. There is no fine house in Nigeria that does not have a high fence and a big gate. In the western world, you would hardly see a fenced house because the police is 2 minutes away from your phone call.
So our mentality is different from the western world. While the western world cares more about the larger society, we care about our individual self and individual wealth and this is why we are richer individually than them but they are richer and better collectively as a society than us. The question you should ask before you travel is what you value more as an individual. This is the basic truth, Nigerian system is design to exploit the weak, poor, striving individual. Most big businesses don't even pay tax. The so called rich men pay near to little or nothing as taxes. If you work for them you're underplayed and no system to even help you out. I just pity low skilled workers like artisans, bricklayers, electricians etc they hardly survived based on only their profession . And this is why many of them resort to riding okada, keke napeb as second means . Nigerian system is warped, from education to health. Transportation system zero, electricity null. Everyone aim is to sabotage the system. Get rich quickly, short cut to things, store plenty monies ,build houses, live in mansion, drive latest cars all at the expense of others. I spit on Nigeria. Our forefathers had failed us, we inherited bad attitudes and system from them. As for timesup and pidgin2 ,I know its poverty that has turned your brain upside. I know two of you will be here, galivating and mastubating on this thread. |

donniemc: Did you even read what i wrote
The averagely successful programmer in America makes $120,000 per year (before taxes)
The averagely successful programmer in Nigeria makes about about $20,000 per year (7.5 million)
Meanwhile,
The averagely successful Android / iPhone/ios programmer anywhere in the world makes close to $400,000 per year
That's 3 times more than what an averagely successful programmer makes in America!.
The moral lesson here is to try and publish as many Android / Ios app you can as a programmer which would in turn increase your chances of becoming an averagely successful Android/ ios Programmer so that you can earn $400,000 per year!.
Unfortunately, Nigeria has only a handful of Android / ios programmers (less than 100). majority of the programmers in Nigeria are web programmers!(at least 99.6%).They code with languages like Php(Laravel), Asp.net, node.js et.c....these web languages can help you get a few freelance jobs but ultimately you would not make as much money as even an average mediocre Android developer.
This is why developers in Nigeria are struggling!!. And that is why in my previous post i suggested that anyone considering to learn programming should just learn Android /ios programming (kotlin or swift).
Believe me, there are Flashlight apps on the Google Play Store that make more than $3,000 per day
Here is a link to one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.peacock.flashlight
Nothing, Absolutely nothing stops you from creating one yourself!. infact you can even just buy the source code to one flashlight app and publish it on the Playstore. Here is a link to pruchase the source code:
https://www.chupamobile.com/android-full-applications/android-flashlight-app-962
Again, Am an Android programmer,I dropped out of school, i have over 60 apps on the Play store. I make quite a lot on the play store!. I wont trade my Nigerian driver's license for an America citizenship!! Are you really sure or just exaggerating ? Why are Nigerian youths not tapping from these sources of wealth because I've seen good nigerian programmers who are barely making a living .Can you teach me how to be making just $100 dollar daily developing android applications? |
