CaseSensitive: So I have a bit of time and I feel I should drop a point or two. As Nigerians, we have a problem that needs to be addressed, that problem is the sense of entitlement. When you apply for your UK visa in Nigeria, there’s a clear immigration rules pertaining to what your rights are as an international student visa. Reading some comments here, I’m disgusted by the number of Nigerians who believe that just by having a student visa and finishing a degree here, everything should be handed over to you on a silver platter; job, residence permit and whatnot. Making a transition from student visa to being able to get work placement, blend into the society and hopefully get a permanent residency might be a farfetched dream because they don’t expect you to stay here after your graduation. But we have this problem of thinking we have a degree, then UK should provide a job after spending a fortune in tuition fees, NO they won’t! Infact your student visa is like a contractual agreement between two parties. In this scenario, yourself and the British consular in Nigeria who you convinced to give you a visa.
You are allowed to work maybe 10 or 20 hours per week and it is no brainer that the UK put this filtering system in place to prevent the influx of international students in their labour market, they will give jobs to their citizens first and I will tell you this for free, international students will be at the very bottom end of the spectrum unless you have a desirable skillset or a STEM degree, a job you will be lucky to get anyway because work experience will probably be required which boils down to the main point that as soon as you finish your studies, UK expect you to get on the plane and jet back to Nigeria.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not trying to knock anyone for wanting to get a better life and try their luck in the UK, but that sense of entitlement needs to stop. If you want to come to the UK, you’re within your right to do that but get your fact right, educate yourself, ignorance is not an excuse because otherwise you will be slapped in the face with reality when you get here without planning and weighing your pros and cons. On the issue of getting a permanent residence in the UK, I guess there are different ways to skin a cat but I can’t stress it enough, get rid of that sense of entitlement because UK don’t owe you anything, not a job after your degree, not a residence permit. Nothing! Are you Phrakleen a youtuber. |

Tajsagay: My experience with 4px and other untracked mail is that 90% of them do get missing. A friend told me that that's because post office people usually steal take because after all, they can't be tracked if this 90% untracked package not delivered is true, most sellers would not accept sending untracked packages to Nigeria again. I've being seeing those trend on aliexpress. Sellers only send untracked packages to us based on trust. And if we continue not receiving it, opening dispute everytime, they will stop sending to Nigeria. Using registered shipping is somehow expensive, especially if what youre buying is small. All my untracked packages about 5, sent since early march can not be traced , only one registered I received 3 wks ago. Those unscrupulous element in NIPOST will continuing spoiling our already battered name. I believe that most of these atrocities are committed in NIPOST headquarter in Lagos , because in my local PO, all packages whether tracked or untracked are recorded in a big register as soon as they arrived. You just check the register to know if youve packages in case you're not called. I think they are just using convid 19 to steal as many as possible. |

Nothing seems happening. I'd so much appreciate if you could give me some guide as to contacting the CC rep. Your effort counts. wait for some weeks. its on its way to your destination. reopen dispute when its almost 90days. Your first order shouldn't be like this. Relax and wait, so that aliexpress won't kick you out of their platform |

jboixxx: If you're bn served by a GPO in Lagos, you shouldn't have delayed delivery, otherwise, you might.
I was told that they don't send unregistered items straight to your state/PO but to your national Zonal HQs. Those of us in NE are under Bauchi Zone, so all unregistered items go to Bauchi before dispatch to respective states/PO (depending on how knowledgeable about PO locations/routes the officer in charge is).
I got 1 out of about 5 of such S00 that's been in 9ja since March last week. So, if that item is impt. and urgent, don't use any of those S00s if you're not in Lagos (and probably served by any of the GPOs) or Southwest (during this COVID-19). Thanks, but dispatching to nearby state ,Ogun should not take more than 2wks. this order seems to have arrived since march and we are in middle of June! |

Opperwezen: Hi guys, Is it just me or a lot of sellers have stopped shipping to Nigeria?
I spent the last 30mins trying to order a replacement screen(S9) but to my surprise none of the sellers are shipping here or could it be aliexpress at work? its because of slow delivery during this period. Even cost of shipping have increased. Most seller don't want to use free shipping with untrackable no, since most buyer will not want to wait for over 60days grace b4 opening dispute. I still have early march orders not yet received. though I've open dispute for them. so seller are careful not to continue loosing money due to untraceable order, since they won't know whether you received the order or not . you can chat with seller to help you ship to Nigeria but be ready to pay for high shipping cost. |

Sanchez01: Imagine! And I have disposed of everything
At the emboldened, it doesn't happen, actually. It is as smooth as butter whether or not it is plugged. The only thing I noticed is power draining 5 times faster on Windows 10, which is a common problem with 10 until I had to disable redundant apps.
Can a passworded BIOS be capable of doing this? No BIOS don't have anything to do with that. what i can see here is data corruption. Os becoming corrupted. Do you also observed it takes long time for some application to load |
Computers › Re: Help: My PC Keeps Destroying HDDs! by acorntree(m): 7:52pm On Jun 05, 2020 |
Sanchez01: I have an HP 8440p that has gulped 3 HDDs within the past 3 months!
A little history
I bought it on Amazon in 2018: a core i7 HP EliteBook and it has not given me an issue for a day until about three months ago.
Although I noticed that the BIOS was passworded when I got it. I couldn't bring myself to take it to Computer Village in Ikeja because of my past experiences with Policemen around that area.
The power pack got damaged about five months ago and had to change it immediately.
A month after, the original HDD that came with it crashed one morning without signs or warnings. All I noticed was media files kept freezing at intervals and I did a restart and that was it.
About two days later, I got another 500GB HDD. Mounted it and installed a Windows 10 on it. I had barely used it for three days before it crashed. Had to take it to the shop I bought it from and they outrighly declined a replacement and refund altogether. Then I got another 500GB (Seagate) which has been perfect ever since until this morning.
I noticed my programmes weren't responding and did a restart. 20 minutes later, it was yet to restart even though it said "restarting". I did a hard reset and it failed to boot.
Hard disk test says "read failure error". I had to remount the HDD but the response is the same.
Along with the one that came with it, this is the third HDD within 3 months. A part of me wants to smash a heavy rod or wood on the PC but irọ nla. It is a crazy strong PC and I love it.
I'm weighing the option of selling it off or taking it to Ikeja for a swap deal but those guys always negotiate items like they are stolen.
I want to know if I can still salvage the PC. Epp me, edakun.
Lalasticlala All those HDD are still OK. HDD are rugged and designed to last for minimum of 3 yes. So the problem is with the motherboard. Do you observed that when you run on battery the system runs smoothly and once power supply is connected it freezes or screen turn blank. if you observed this, once you install new os boot into window in same mode and disable all the multiprocessor configuration. |

Education › Re: Skills A Mechanical Engineer Should Learn To Be Relevant by acorntree(m): 7:06am On Jun 03, 2020 |
Himtoisand: I am an undergraduate student in one of the Universities of Technology. I am studying mechanical engineering. A 4.50 - 5.0 CGPA student, but i dont know how a mechanical system like a car operates. My school curriculum is obsolete. I love to learn but i am confused on how to develop myself. CAD today, Programming tomorrow, cloud computing next week. I dont want to be confuse in life and end up like my father. Who studied in one of the best universities in europe but we are based in one of the poorest region in Nigeria and he has no job for the past 10 years due to poor preparation and planning. Please help me on how can i develop myself to be a great mechanical engineer?. You can identify your father's fault. He depended too much on paper certificate. The world is changing, gone are the days where you focus only on certificates for means of livelihood. Skills is what you need, and not just one skill. You've to differentiate yourself by becoming an expert in whatever you do. That's what will make you stand out among your peers. As a mechanical engineering students focus more on design skills. There is great need for new machines in agricultural field, homes etc which most Nigerians are not able to solved. Machines are becoming more intelligent, so you need to be good in programming to add this feature. So think in general, IoT, etc. Autonomous machines need programs to work ,so python, c language etc are prerequisite. All what mentioned here are hardly taught well in most Nigerian Universities and that's why we've so many half baked engineering graduates who can't solve real life problems. There are so many online courses you can take to help develop these skills. |

jboixxx: Logistics isn't a direct trip as most of us have been thinking. Yes, no pass 3hrs but it isn't the same vehicle that picks from Lagos that'll deliver at Abuja as each has its terminal point.
An example: Makurdi to Lafia is about 4hrs (if I'm not mistaken) but Makurdi vehicle won't deliver nasarawa bound package, only Portharcourt inbound Abuja vehicle that will pick it up at Makurdi and deliver to lafia on it's way to abuja. If it takes 5 days to come to Makurdi, that's how long the package will stay at Makurdi before it leaves to Lafia.
Reason why you see your DHL items going round the world before coming to 9ja. @jboixxx help me interpret this o. I was at post office yesterday to check for my packages but was told I didn't have any. Tracking this morning shows this.
