I stepped out from the popular metropolitan supermarket in Uyo. I started the car and was about to leave then this man knock on my window. Holding his folder he introduced himself as Edidiong Ekanem from Eket. He said he just attended a meeting in Uyo but got stranded going back as he is short of funds. I handed him the whole change i had which was exactly N350. He look at the money in disgust and guess what will come our his mouth. "Is that all, this will not take me to Eket now". I said give me bck so i can give you N500 with the expectation of denying him when he gives me. He said bring it, i just rollled up my glass and swore i will never be kind to anyone in need again. |
I know it is expensive as an average Nigerian to properly service a car according to owners manual with oem parts. We can still attempt to do it but in a Nigerian way avoiding some major cost. I serviced my 2003 Honda accord I4 yesterday with very good results. Items required; 1 5litre gallon of milemaster 5W20 engine oil N6,000 Oil filter N1,000 Set of 4 unused Tokumbo NGK 6994 IZFR6K-11 Laser Iridium Spark Plugs N1,000 1 can of Carb cleaner The list should have been more than this or better than these but that was what is affordable. Change of oil went through the usual process. Plugs were removed and the tokumbo unused plugs was brushed with iron brush, regapped to 11mm with a gapping tool then sprayed with carb cleaner and installed. Air filter was removed and blown by a vulcanizer. The result was obviously positive. I plan to in the next service; -Change the air filter which according to the manual be replaced after every 30,000miles. -Inspect and adjust valves which the manual states 110kmiles as the due time and my car is at 118kmiles at the moment. Valve adjustment specs for 2003 accord K24A1 Intake: 0.21-0.25mm (0.008-0.010in) Exhaust: 0.28-0.32mm (0.011-0.013in) -Change gear oil with Genuine Honda DW1 ATF found in Konga for N1,800 for 1litre. I will buy 3 which will cost N5,400 plus 1k shipping making 6.4k. According to manual its due at 120kmiles. -Change engine coolant which is at Konga too and due at 120kmiles and subsequently every 60kmiles. The ones i have not planned are brake fluid replacement (every 3years) and power steering oil replacement. I do rotate my tires every 10kmiles. Mind you, that check engine light is due to Air/fuel ratio sensor which i have been looking for for months now. What are your car's recommendation and how close arw you to doing service according to the manual?
|
Totfulguy:1.You will have to start from the Check engine light by scanning the car and fixing associated sensors or parts. 2. Remove air filter and blow out dust or replace entire. 3. Remove, inspect, clean, regap or replace all spark plugs. 4. I really dont know what to tell you about the last one but something needs to be done on your injectors. It should be better by the time you go through the list. |
Mogidi:If you were sent by GEJ with loads of cash, will you wallk into their office with probably security and spy cameras to set urself up as the most foolish bribe emissary. Was it not the same thing Farouk Lawan did that Nigerians called him the most foolish public holder with so many assistants that could take the money on his behalf. If you have nothing intelligent to say, just keep quiet. |

anneki:I agree, if you do more of city driving, then you may need to change sooner. Its stated like that in thw manual. Our office cars were last service with Mobil xhp 20w50 exactly a year ago. The suv has done up to 20,000km now and the greedy men would not drop a kobo for some reason i wont say. Those engines are still moving fine. Anyways, i dont feel that extended usage beyond recommended quality grade of oil will have an immediate negetive effect. It will have to be some thing more critical like wrong engine oil grade to no engine oil at all switch gives you a negative result almost immediately. In my case, I have been topping with new oil and so may not be that bad. Dont fret my guy. Infact you scared me into changing now when there is no money around. |
anneki:I have just crossed the 7.5k miles 2 days ago and the 'Maintenance required' light started flashing but not steady yet. I have decided to change and have purchased a gallon yesterday. If you want Milemaster in Abj check this link https://www.nairaland.com/1970453/pls-where-buy-5w-30-oil#27597883 I have been buying from Crystal Express Resources – LIFECAMP. Piyke:I have the same honda @117kmiles and have been using Milemaster with exactly the same results. However, i have been experiencing the shortage before the 5w20 and not any better or worst. So, i continued with the Milemaster for its obvious benefits while dealing with the shortage with an extra gallon just for that purpose. |
It seems she is not keeping it for long if she is actually bothered that sex was their reason for leaving. Right from the day she decided she was going to keep it, she should have decided that she would boyfriend full or boyfriend less. What she is experiencing is expect and worst of it is yet to come. Its either she sadly gives it or happily keep it. She cannot sadly keep it or happily give it since she happily decided to keep it. |
nairacountry:Sorry didn't try to respond to that. Unfortunately, NO! That is the responsibility of you brake pads and rotors. The brake pad may not be of good quality or the break-in has not been achieved. The break-in procedure is critical to brake performance. The reason for a proper break in is to establish an even layer of friction material deposited on the rotors from the brake pads. It is very important that this initial layer of friction material is evenly distributed. Usually you have to drive with caution after installing new brake pads without a break-in procedure. There is a procedure for advance car users i have read called Pad Bedding Procedure which involves intermittently driving and braking at controlled speeds to heat the pad and rotors and imprint rotor surface pattern on the pad surface achieving maximum contact for effective friction. |
poiZon:I will love that only if your are f. Thats where i have the will to do as much push ups. |
mozee:You didnt mention whether the part you bought was new or tokumbo. |
CircleOfWilis:Welcome. The pix by billy187 is also a valid difference between the American and European. Thirdly, in the instrument cluster, the American will definately have speedometer calibrations in miles and in bold with smaller case kilometers but European will only be in Kilometers with no presence of miles. |
nairacountry:There are two things i know that are related to that light 1. Low level of brake fluid/its broken harness 2. Blown brake bulb/its broken harness Since you dont have a shortage in brake fluid, my guess is the brake lights or its wiring. Have some depress the brake pedal while you look for the blown one. My friend who drives that same car has that light on, checked his and the bulb was replaced and the light went off. However, that same bulb has burnt out so many times now that he has been ignoring it for long now. You better look for a belgium replacement. |
nairacountry:Atleast one of your brake lights is burnt out. Check and replace the bad bulb and it should go off. |
poiZon:LOL Na God, nature and lack of will to keep fit. |
What i think the op is asking is in physical difference. To answer that i will upload two pictures of the same car with a red circle and an arrow pointing to what i have always noticed as a difference between the American and the European Golf models. Notice the side amber reflectors/lights in the first pix which is the American model. The same difference exist in all Golf models i have seen. Personally, i prefer the European model to the American.

drhappy: drhappy:From the picture you posted, it is primary to use oil that is designed for gasoline engines, minimum API rating of SJ, SAE 5w30 and energy conserving. Using synthetic, synthetic blend or dyno oil is secondary and a user choice. However, your choice of oil will change your recommended service interval, thats all. Please Note that the latest API Rate is SN (2011) which which is well above the older SM (2004), SL (2001) and SJ (1997). These ratings are backwards compatible but with exceptions. So, it means you can use SN, SM, SL, SJ but not SH, SG, SF etc |
Collynzo29:Whats your thought on the killling of Hausa men by supposedly a hausa man. Does that in anyway benefit the hausa man even if his cause is to Islamatise the whole country? He carries out his cause by killing his muslem brothers. I dont see any sense in all these killings but i smell conspiracy. |
If he can afford two cars, that means he can afford to present you a car key as a wedding present but not before. Do you live under his roof at the moment? If no, you have no right to even think of that. You can make him your personal driver and thats the limit. |
You need to check the car for the brake binding. Google the symptoms. |
Its simple. The police probably stopped you and asked for papers. You handed to them papers of the car you recently purchased which bears the seller's name. You also handed them your drivers license showing your name which has no relationship with the owner. They asked you who the owner is, you probably said 'i just bought it'. They ask you for proof and you gave them a transaction receipt. The receipt does not show that the seller willingly agreed on the sale so police assume the worst, ITS A STOLEN CAR UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE. A change of ownership agreement with the sellers name and signature is the closest convincing document you should have had. In this condition the seller must show up with his ID showing his name that corresponds to the car's document for the car's release. You are lucky the did'nt throw you in the cell with the allegation. Get the seller (real owner) to the police station fast. After that, you get an agreement and get a change of ownership certificate (N2,000) with which you can change the name on all the other documents will be change on expiry. |
Is this to counter the picture of Tambuwal driving himself? The two pictures cant be compared, its a lame one from Jonas people. Does the President have to wait for his flight or what? |
aljharem:He actually has a choice. He could hire thugs to escort him just like Fayose and many PDP stalwarts do! |
bhobhot:It is designed to test for specific range of oxygen in the exhaust gases, if you remove entirely, the sensor will not be fooled since the oxygen level will be above the specific range and will almost certainly throw you a different code. |
cretin:It is important to note that almost or if not all brand new cars sold in Nigeria do not have emission control systems installed. Same with tokunbo cars from europe. Mostly tokumbo cars from North America are the ones with emission control due to their laws. We dont have such laws in Africa. I do not mean its a good thing to perform the tweak, if you care for the environment and can afford to maintain you emission control system, please do. If you cant afford to keep the system intact, do what the op says to have a better mileage if there is a CEL due to the system. |
andre82:LOL In addition to all, if your wheel bearing is bad and completely dry of grease, it will run hotter than usual. You will have to identify and separate brake binding first. |
I thought this is the American model Toyota Corolla. Its already in Nigeria, i have seen it so many times. This one looks probably like the sports version which i have not yet seen. |
anneki:I said am considering. I am considering that for economical reasons and also that i have since the initial switch topped with almost 3 litres of the same new milemaster. In other words i have a mixture of good and bad oil with the old one almost totally replaced (4.2 less 3litres). My initial target was 7500miles being half way between recommended 10kmiles with synthetic and 5kmiles with dino. If there is anything am scared of is the filter. In my office car, Mobil xhp was used to service and has been on for a yr now which has done almost 20k kilometres and still counting. Their choice not mine. |
I have been using milemaster 5w20 on 2003 Honda accord and have since done 7000miles and still going. I lost my Bosch filter early at 2000miles or there about to a mechanic puncture which i replaced with the conventional blue honda filter. My engine oil has been shortening before the milemaster so i have no regrets due to shortage. I experienced better performance with it. The oil on dipstick still looks good tempting me to go all the way to 10,000miles. I have since bought a whole extra 5litre gallon for topping the shortage which has gone just beyond half way. Probably thats why the oil still looks good. I add a quarter of a litre every 600miles. |
yousee:Lol. Will tell him. Small world. Saint Bath abi? |
Atouke:Ufan mi, like i said before, i owe you no explanation or further details. If you wish, call me a liar. What i have seen, heard and the threats to my life were personal or official experiences which i am not willing to share on this forum. Just like you said, Ibeno is a nice place, i visited it so many times to catch fun with friends and family. Like any other place, there are downsides and that is what i have mentioned. In several occasions, i found it hard to walk bare footed from where i parked without feeling like am walking on dirt. You talk about getting approvals like its the only thing you have to do to invest in a community. Once again, if you have no experience you need to keep quiet. Your last line is way off. That beach if you don't know is a public natural recreational site which the government must maintain or develop. Our government is blinded by oil money that's why these little tourist sites are not converted to revenue generating source of the government. |
