Nairaland GeneralRe: Negative Thoughts About Yourself You Should Avoid by adetsim(m): 9:24am On Aug 31, 2013
yinkdj1: 1. I’M NOT ___ ENOUGH
Fill in the blank with anything. If you don’t think you’re pretty or talented or smart enough, ask yourself why you feel that way. If others are telling you these things, don’t believe them and find new people to surround yourself with that will make you feel good about yourself. If the media is the cause of your pain, realize that magazines and TV shows dramatize the importance of appearances and pictures are easily photoshopped. One of the negative thoughts about yourself that you should avoid is feeling like you’re not good enough. See your worth.

2. I DESERVE IT
When something bad happens to you, don’t blame yourself. It’s unhealthy to believe that you ‘got what was coming to you’ whenever negative things happen. While some problems can be avoided, others are impossible to stop. Remember that despite what you’ve done in the past, you’re a good person. You don’t deserve pain.

3. HE’D NEVER LIKE ME
Why do you think that your crush would reject you? If he’s only into girls that look like supermodels, find a new guy who’s not shallow. If he goes for girls with a good sense of humor, tell him your best joke. There’s no reason to think that you don’t stand a chance with a guy. Show him your lovely personality, flash him a smile, and see what happens. Don’t be fooled into thinking that your crush is better than you. He’d be lucky to have you; you’re a prize.

4. I CAN’T DO IT
You can do whatever you set your mind to. It sounds like a cliché, but it’s the truth. If you have a goal, try your hardest to accomplish it. Don’t be afraid of failure or rejection. Tell yourself that you’re capable of succeeding and remain positive.

5. I’M A BAD PERSON
After cheating on your boyfriend or having a nasty fight with your parents, it can be difficult to recover emotionally. Just remember that whatever you did wrong is in the past. If it’s impossible to fix your mistake, you can at least learn from it. Everyone has done things that they aren’t proud of, but that doesn’t make them evil. Humans are all flawed, which means they make mistakes. Don’t dwell on the how you’ve acted in the past and focus on how you want to act in the future.

6. NO ONE CARES ABOUT ME
More people care about you than you realize. Even if you haven’t been getting along with your family or friends lately, they still love you. There could even be an acquaintance of yours that looks forward to your little chats every day. You never know how many people you’ve affected. Never think that you’re alone in life, because there are people around you who genuinely care.

7. I HATE MYSELF
Hate is a strong word that you should refrain from using. There are traits that we all wish we didn’t possess, but there’s no reason to hate yourself over them. If the aspect you dislike is changeable, then what’s stopping you from bettering yourself? If it’s something that you can’t change, then you have to learn to accept that it’s a part of who you are. Never be ashamed of who you are.

Once you stop telling yourself the things listed above, you’ll be happier. There’s no reason to focus on the negative when it only causes you pain. In the spirit of positivity, what’s your favorite thing about yourself?

cramjones: In as much as I am all for charity...I would say this is a stupid move! How can you donate money from part of the money given to you? Even if you do so why not take the camera off and do it without anyone knowing. My point is you can't be asking for money and then obviously go and donate part of it because you have gotten more than enough. OJB should focus on his health number 1 and then focus on how to use part of the free capital he has gotten to make money. This publicity charity stunt is totally uncalled for. The people I know that donate to others either work for their money or inherit the money. If you agree like this!
I so much like the way you've reasoned. There's nothing wrong in doing this, but the timing. He could have scheduled this to be after the transplant has been successfully done; when people that donated to him would happily see the good result of their assistance. Everything thing in life requires wisdom.

Christianity EtcRe: Where Pastor Adeboye Got It Wrong by adetsim(m): 1:21pm On Aug 16, 2013
Then before sermon, General Overseer of RCCG, Pastor Adeboye made a special announcement. The church is to build a new auditorium, stretching 3km in length and width, and four times the size of the present auditorium, to accommodate many more parishioners, before next year’s convention. Everyone was naturally excited, particularly those who get to camp ground late and cannot be seated in the present auditorium. Then Pastor Adeboye shocked me with the following pronouncement:

“We need N1 Billion from ten (10) people, If you are one of them, please see my personal Secretary after we finish today. We also need N100million from those who can afford it, if you are in that category, please see my personal Secretary as well. Nonetheless, we need everyone’s involvement. If you can afford N50million, N20million, N5million, N1million to as low as N100, kindly make sure you participate. How many of you will build for the Lord?” All hands naturally went up in delirium.

I could not believe my eyes. I should not bother myself with how a church raises money to finance projects but a dangerous trend is being set and we are made to believe if we cannot ‘donate’ a certain amount of money, we cannot see Daddy G.O.’s personal Secretary. Such ‘privilege’ is for those that can donate handsomely for the work of God. Assuming a rich man in the Convention donates N1Billion effortlessly and a widow, whose next source of meal is unsure, donates her last N100; who among the two should see Pastor Adeboye’s personal Secretary? Well the answer lies in Luke 21:1-4 and Mark 12:41-44, where Jesus Christ acknowledged the poor widow who donated two copper coins (mite) over the rich donors and said “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on”.

How do we begin to justify asking members of a congregation to donate such a huge amount of money when poverty is smiling at most of the country’s citizens? The last time they were told to donate generously for the Lord towards a University project, as ordained by God, they all gladly did. The sad thing is atN510,000 per session for College of Humanities (100L & 200L), N520 for Management Science students and N550 for Natural Sciences students; Redeemer’s University is not for a Redeemer whose minimum wage is around N18,000. So they have contributed to a project, believing they are sowing for God, yet cannot send their wards/kids to such schools. Interestingly, many of the Pastors (and church leaders) running private Universities today, all enjoyed free education (absolutely free, including free lunch of Rice and Chicken – every Sunday) under Awolowo’s magnanimity. Education is now for rich members only but poor members are not exempt from donations. Hmmmm!

If the project was for research on AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, I would not bat an eyelid. If it was for national fight against Polio eradication in Nigeria like the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation in Africa, we would see the immediate benefits. If it was some sort of entrepreneurial aid to jobless youths, we would feel the impact as a nation. In spite of Bill and Melinda Gates contributions to Polio eradication, Nigeria remains the only African country (not Rwanda, not Mali, not Somalia or Sudan) where Polio is endemic and she shares this feat with Pakistan and Afghanistan. Interestingly, Pakistan reduced the number of polio cases from 198 in 2011 to 56 in 2012; Afghanistan saw a decrease from 80 to 35 during the same period, however, Nigeria increased from 62 in 2011 to 119 in 2012.

In 2013, The Gates foundation committed a fresh $1.8 Billion to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) out of the $5.5 Billion required. Britain contributed $457 million, Canada donated $250 million while $240 million came from Norway. Even the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahayan donated $120 million. Remarkably, these donations from foreign countries are geared towards solving the Polio scourge in 3 countries, Nigeria included. Foreigners help us to fight major health challenges while our idea of development is in gigantic buildings to be used once or twice a month for religious purposes. Our own priority in Nigeria isowning jets, breaking heads with mace, fighting for 2015 elections and building bigger auditoriums. Is it not clear why we are not developing as a country?

The message I got from the pulpit was clear, concise and profound. It does not matter where the N1 Billion comes from, provided it is donated for God’s work. Ever wonder why it is difficult for Pastors and General Overseers to condemn those who have looted our treasury? Recall when Cecelia Ibru and Erastus Akingbola had front row seats at major religious conventions in Nigeria? Did any Pastor speak against their deeds, like Nathan confronted and condemned King David in 2 Samuel 12? The subtle message is clear: “we need your money for the work of God and it does not matter how you get it”. Those who have sincerely worked hard for their wealth will only donate to worthy causes such as Aliko Dangote did when he announced a relief fund contribution of N2.5 Billion to the relief effort of flood victims in 2012."https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=658152460862248&id=100000024999611&refid=8&_ft_=qid.5911584831070047053%3Amf_story_key.-4075839890008540583&_rdr#s_878437630e9e448f9504d46c35ddb39e[/quote

HealthRe: I'm Experiencing Sleep Paralysis - Please Advice! by adetsim(m): 1:32am On Aug 14, 2013
[b]it started happening to me since last year. Ok i'm sleeping, and like a normal person i'm ready to wake up, u know it comes from within whether wilfully or not, then snap! ur body soul and spirit is awake. Right?? But the case is different with me. Though it only occurs once in a while, i can count the times i've had the experience, the latest been yesterday. Ok this is how it actually feels, i'm ready to wake up, but i feel something holding me down, inwardly i'm awake, i can hear every sound around me perfectly, but i'm unable to wake up, my eyes wouldn't open, my body would refuse to move, it'll just feel like its heavy. To someone looking at me, i may be fast asleep, but i'm actually awake, unable to stand up, move any part of my body or even open my eyes, but i'm actually conscious of my surrounding.

The first time i had it, i think i just fell asleep again after the feeling, the second and third time too was the same. The fourth time or so, i had it, i struggled within myself so hard to fight this stuff, and i was successful.

I really did struggle within me, psychologically, and i felt it when i woke up, i felt sort of drained. I didn't like the feeling.

The last time i had it i just stayed like dat, until i eventually opened my eyes after several minutes. That doesn't feel cool either.

Ok i guess i'm starting to sound like a weirdo but trust me its d plain fact.

Pls advice, what dyu think is wrong with me and wat can i do to stop it.

I really do hate this experience.

Thanks.

Booqee, I read some of the comments of some people and I was laughing. The fact is that you are the person if affects and you are the only one that knows exactly how deep if affects you. It could be such to an extent that at times one would think one would not be able to stand up again. Don't play with yourself, look for a spiritually strong someone and tell him/her to explain the meaning of what you have described to you. I am not scaring you, it can go, but you have to pray very very well. I have had the experience before.Don't be ignorant of the devices of the devil.

I can bet it, this will happen. Maximalliano, a time is coming when our leaders will think business as usual, whereas the masses have been over driven to the wall. An example is this Rivers State issue. People are lying to the Presidency that it is only opposition political parties that are angry but in reality majority of Nigerians are very mad at the actions of the FG. I won't be surprised if the revolution comes sooner than expected.
There is no doubt about this revolution. It is definitely certain, inevitable, and it's going to be the worst so far. The timing is what I don't know. The only thing that could avert it is the quick repentance on the path of our wicked leaders.

Yr persistence @ pooh-poohing d lies of Pro-establishment lilliputs on NL is very encouraging.it is so obvious that a large % of them were stil in their diapers or in d womb when we had a semblance of a disciplined govt hence they can never connect d fact that GEJ and his party are not and can never be d best 4 us

I for one don't criticise GEJ because he is a Minority or something, but I detest d fact that he has not even lift a finger to remedy no matter how small his impact would have been d systematic rot in d governance of our country rather choosing to hobnob with economic terrorists and outright criminals in d guise of Militants who are being criminally empowered to guard pipelines yet are stil engaged in sophisticated crude oil theft

So those who erroneously seek to help parry or deflect our blaming of GEJ 4d continued rot in d system by saying he ddnt buy dos aircrafts when evidence infact showed that he did are only being disingenous

His case is a clinical case of 'omo aijebe ri ton ja epo saya'- a child who finds a soup so tantalising to d extent of soiling his apparel wt stains!

D presidency and its allure is so overwhelming 4 GEJ hence he just wudnt see anything wrong in perpetuating d culture of profligacy of his predecessors when an executive bill seeking to dispose off a few of those crafts wud av cemented his heroic status in our hearts

But what does one expect from a man who hasn't got a shred of sage mentality or glory-hunting mindset? Clueless to say d least!

indianin9ja: OP, as an Indian living in Nigeria, here's my two cents.

Stop calling it "Slavery". This is very misleading, and may incite hatred. I sometimes experience anti-Indian hatred from Nigerians here, and it is misleading rumours like this that contribute to racism against Indians here in Nigeria.

After all, you signed up to the contract. If you had any common sense at all, you'd come to expect that the job is hell or else they wouldn't bond you for 2 years. Why would a great job bond their employees with such a hefty penalty.

Yes, you can try to find if they also breach the contract, in which case the contract would be null and void. But I've come to learn that the legal enforcement of this country really means nothing, and perhaps a bribe by your employer would mean that you have no case against them.

Anyway, best of luck. Stop hating on Indians.

Efemena_xy: I'm no legal practitioner but here's my two cents worth of advice:

~ First of all, whip out your Contract of Employment you were given and carefully go through the Terms of Agreement you signed up for.

~ Next, look for where they haven't honoured their end of the deal. You mentioned that part of the agreement was that they provide you with a car for ease of mobility. They haven't done that yet, even after six months. So you have a strong point here to use against them: i.e 'Breach of Contract'. If you can prove how much this has put a drain on your resources (receipts, etc), then even better.

Make a written official complaint to your employers that they haven't met up on their obligations to you with respect to providing you with transportation if you haven't already done so. Request also that they compensate you for your expenses over the last six months. Send them an email, then await their response. If after a few days you get no reply from them, then send a follow-up email. DO NOT DELETE YOUR EMAIL OR THEIR RESPONSE. It's your proof which you're hoping to use against them in your favour.

~ Secondly, go visit your doctor and explain the mental stress this job is exerting in you and how it's affecting your daily life, eg: unable to sleep at night, panic attacks, etc. You're doing this for two purposes: to get some medical help AND proof later on that you can use to exit that company on the grounds of health issues. Your doctor should keep a copy of the outcome of your visit.

~ Finally, be strong. Speak to friends and family members so they can provide you with the emotional support you need. Find the services of a good lawyer if you can too for more advice on what you can do and the options available to you.

Best of luck!
This is excellent.

Car TalkRe: Is It Possible For A Car To Be Charmed? by adetsim(m): 12:16am On Jul 02, 2013
lozanni: I was told that in a state bordering Lagos, if one of the towing truck operators touches your car, even if its brand new, it will stop working immediately so that they, the towing truck people, can earn some money through towing it to a garage.

The person who narrated the above story to me said, that the next time he saw the towing truck operators, when he was stopped by the police, approaching his car, he had to swear at them and warned them never to ever come near his car !!! smiley
Most comments have been making me laugh. I can assure any one that not only car can be charmed but humans as well. While in Oyo state, Ogbomosho precisely, in the next compound to my own , there was one transporter who specialises in things like this. Nobody has ever stolen his trucks without he not recovering it back. Once any of his vehicles is reported stolen, he enters his room and makes solid incantations and anywhere the vehicle may be, it gets knocked immediately. What we must understand is that everything created whether by God or man, has a name in the spiritual world. Acts like these are reducing due to development and basically religion and that's why most people don't believe it is possible.

rafhell: Jonathan is still the best and an example to many. Imagine what obj or buhari would have done to this amaechi by now.

Mind u I am not a fan of gej but I am impressed wit how he has handled certain issues
You're right. Jonathan is so humble to the core.
