PoliticsRe: As Nigerians, Can We Ever Witness Stable Electricity In Our Life Time? by adrusa: 5:07pm On Jan 10, 2020
No, as long as we expect government to provide us with electricity almost for free.
Yes, if and when we start paying commercial rates for electricity and private companies start building power stations.

I have installed a few. Your best bet is to get an earlier version of the app. The newer versions will request an update (which might brick your device). The settings provided by the rotary switch should suffice for most uses.

Avoid firmware updates unless absolutely required for the functionality you require. I've been burnt twice so I am somewhat experienced now. You could PM me if you run into issues with the earlier apps though I foresee none.
Thank you Sapiro. I eventually got a 2017 version that upgraded the CC minimally and allowed me to configure the CC. Thanks.

More better offers will roll in soon. Prices of panels have dropped down in recent times. You know what i mean if you know your way around alaba.
His panel prices are similar to what I paid for some 300W Mono panels recently. This is however not an endorsement. Buyers must do their due diligence.

So, why are you confident to say all this in a public forum? Because, you know deep in your heart that you are free to say anything you like including calling Buhari any name you wish, because there is freedom of speech. If you think threatening a duly elected government with extrajudicial, extra-constitutional removal, mouthing hate speeches and spreading fake, injurious news on social media is "free speech", you are dead wrong. These are criminal offenses punishable by statues in our laws.

brother, while purchasing a good quality cc, sometimes you have to look beyond price.
those chinese cc you're referring to may appear to be cheaper in the short term but you pay
for it in other ways.
and, if durability, ruggedness, peak performance is your thing, i think you'll be hard put to get
a better option presently in the market than morningstar.
Morningstar CC has a fatal weakness that kept me away from it. If the battery disconnects from the CC in the afternoon when there is sun, or if you mistakenly connect the PV before you connect the battery, the CC will catch fire and be damaged. I will never touch a MorningStar, ever.

Queen,

It depends on what you are connecting. One battery is not going to perform wonder and with light and TV, depending on the size and its power consumption, you are already enjoying your money's worth with 4 hours of backup. May be u should add one more battery.

Good day, we just installed a solar system in our house to power our electric fence 24/7.So far, we haven't had light for 3 days. 3 pcs of 150w mono solar panels were installed to charge our (one pcs) 200ah battery. Since it was installed, we haven't had light. When the sun charges it, it shows all the battery bars complete on the charge controller, but once I turn on the inverter it shows that only three bars of batteery is available for use. This has been the case for 3 days now that I have been charging it with just solar, since we haven't had light. It has never charged full even with good sun for most of the day.
.
.
.
With not all our connected appliances loaded, the inverter alarm starts beeping batteery low after 4 hours of use, whereas the charge controller will still be at two bars. My husband says his colleagues inverter battery charges with solar under 4 hours, and it's d same capacity as ours. Pls what do u guys think, cos I am planning to call the installer for remedy.

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by adrusa: 12:05pm On Oct 02, 2019
Yes, but.... Any conductor can be used, but it will not be as effective as copper. The idea of a lightning arrestor is to provide the path of least resistance to the earth, that is why pure copper is used since it is the best available and affordable conductor.

mcTrinity:
Good morning,

please, can the DC flex cable (used in Solar wiring) be used for Thunder arrestor and grounding installation ..?

I know, normally copper tape or stranded copper is used for thunder arrestor and stranded copper is used for house earthing... just wondering if the DC flex cable can also be appropriate.

thanks

I have two 150 watts solar panels and about to add another two. The two batteries usually get sufficient charge on most days from PHCN. My problem is I want to change the batteries now and was considering 6V batteries. Was told 2x6V 210AH will still give me what 2x12V 210AH will in a 12V system.
Nope! 2x6V 210AH is half of 2x12v 210AH. Don't believe anyone who tells you they are the same. He is either a conman or doesn't know what he is doing.

I have two questions
1. Can 400ah battery power a 1.5hp inverter ac for a period of like 4hrs?
2. Can one combine 2 batteries of different brands with the same voltage to get more amperage?
1. It is possible, but I won't bet on it. The higher the discharge rate of a battery the less the AH that can be taken out of it. In addition, depending on the cut-out voltage of your inverter, the inverter may cut off before the battery even get to 50%.

2. Yes, it is possible, but not recommended since each battery may have different charging characteristics and internal resistance. In reality, many people are constrained to do this for logistics and cost reasons. Using a balancer may help alleviate some of the side effects of combining dissimilar batteries.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by adrusa: 6:52pm On Aug 20, 2019
Let me share a little experience with you, especially for people who may be employing installers to do their solar jobs. A small solar set up was installed in my office with 8 batteries at 48v and what appeared like an a PWM controller but with MPPT written on it. We really didn't put it to use until sometimes last week. However, we noticed that the batteries soon died, even in the afternoon with blazing sun.

So my colleagues in the office informed me and I went down to see the installation. I asked that the NEPA input should be put off and put a load on the inverter. Lo and behold, the charge controller was not supplying any current to the battery. So, we were effectively running on the batteries. While the installer was fiddling with the installation, I looked at the label on the CC. Low and behold, it is labelled "auto 12/24v". So, the installer actually put a CC with max 24v input on a 48v system!

Fast forward to this afternoon, when the installer brought a Fangpusun CC (the FM80 Clone) to replace the CC. Still the CC was still not supplying any current to the batteries. Unfortunately, the installer was garrulous, unwilling to own up to his mistakes and was insisting that everything was fine. By the way, the Fangpusun was displaying "unloaded" at the right lower corner. I really have no idea what that means since I have never seen that on my original outback CC.

So, lessons

1. Don't assume that your installer know what he is doing, pay attention and ask questions
2. Ask a more knowledgeable friend to help you look over your installation if it is working well
3. Don't let any installer bamboozle you. If he can not explain what he is doing in a way you can understand, he probably does not know what he is doing.

But for the fact that I checked, we would have been thinking that our solar was working well, when we were only using NEPA to charge our batteries.

Finally, what does "unloaded" mean on Fangpusun Outback Clone?

@op I am 90% sure you are doing a marketing build up yourself.

Abi what is the point of this thread?
For those who may not have noticed, New LG TVs are now cheaper than the tokunbo they try to sell to you on nairaland. They have got to find ways of persuading you to buy their used one rather than the new "Fouani" ones. This is demarketing in its most subtle form. Nothing wrong with the "Fouani" LG, they are the same LG, indeed, the models we have here are the same models sold in Middle East, Africa and some part of Asia. They are usually different from the ones for Europe and may not be as good. But, when your Alaba or Nairaland TV develop faults, where do you take it to? Fouani LG is still the better option; new, cheaper and with warranty.

I had actually gotten price estimations to set up one with a 150watts solar panel, a lifepo4 battery etc
Costs less than 70k

I just want other options especially with lead or mercury battery.

Also if you have a link to the powerbank please share. I just want ro compare every thing and see which is the best for me.
Thanks.

It's just for a laptop and a phone. Thanks.

Please if you know where I can get new or fairly used products to fit my budget it would be of great help.
That will just buy you a high capacity powerbank with ports for laptop and usb, not enough to set up a solar system.

Yes o, as part of his civic responsibility to this great thread, he must name and shame 'em angry
Anyone who wants to set up a solar inverter system must invest some time in understanding how it works. Either by reading up or coming to a forum like this and seeking for the opinions of knowledgeable people. Many installers out there just took some few days or few weeks crash courses and start calling themselves experts. For me, I design my system based on my readings and information gathered from different sources and only get an installer to do the hard work of buying materials, climbing the roof, fixing the panels and connecting the wires. In Nigeria, you need to educate yourself to some degree before calling artisans or installers be it for your car, house appliances or solar, otherwise, some will turn you to an ATM and even destroy your things with their poor knowledge and then get you to pay for their costly mistakes.
