Human Right Activist and Lead Counsel for #EndSars campaigner, Abdul Mahmud says the judiciary, Nigerian Police and Prison officials are now working in cahoots to ensnare undercover investigative reporter Fisayo Soyombo.

Nigerian authorities according to an unconfirmed report is planning arrest him for his groundbreaking report into corruption at a Police Station in Lagos and the Ikoyi Prison.

The first instalment of the three-part investigation by Fisayo Soyombo, a former editor of The ICIR, The Cable and a contributor to Al Jazeera, detailed how Nigerian policemen and officers of the prison service “pervert the course of justice in their quest for ill-gotten money”.

In the second part of the investigation published on Monday by The ICIR and The Cable, he exposed “how the courts short-change the law, and the prisons are themselves a cesspool of the exact reasons for which they hold inmates.”

Mahmud in a series of tweets on his official twitter handle, said the state (Buhari led government) is planning to file a charge under the S.29 of the Prison Act 2018.

He said, “The gods have spoken to their Great Oracle. Fisayo, run; The ICIR run. The state is coming after you all for “espionage”.

Fisayo’s bail will be revoked. A charge will be filed under S.29 of the Prison Act 2018. The gods have spoken

The judiciary, prisons and police are now working in cahoots to ensnare Fisayo. So says the gods.

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Ibrahim Magu, says the agency is planning to rehabilitate young people who are engaged in Internet fraud, popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo boys.

Magu stated this in Lagos on Thursday while delivering a paper titled, ‘Strategic change administration and innovation to curb corruption in Nigeria,’ at the third All Administrators National Conference of the Chartered Institute of Administration

According to him, Internet fraudsters could be useful to the agency in future.

While speaking on collaboration between the Nigerian graft agency and other nations, Magu said EFCC had secured collaboration with ECOWAS member-states to aid in prosecution of cross-border crimes.

He stated, “So if you carry money from Nigeria and escape to Ghana, we will just call the men in Ghana and say, ‘arrange this man and keep him for me.

“This is what the Yahoo-Yahoo boys like to do. But we are planning to rehabilitate them because they can be useful to us in future.”

Magu said the graft agency had been able to secure 614 convictions between January and September. .

He attributed this to the increase in the agency’s zonal offices from seven in 2009 to 18 in 2018.

According to him, in addition to increasing its zonal offices, the agency had also increased and trained more personnel all in an effort to curb corruption in the country.

In the fight against corruption, synergy is important, the EFCC acting chairman said.

He urged the CIA to collaborate with the agency in the fight by making sure that they administer their affairs in a corruption-free manner.

He also called on civil organisations and members of the public to report cases of corruption to the agency.

They should have shipped the parts to Naija for assembling to create jobs and it will have been faster at least if it is 2 or 3 that has been completed they will be deployed immediately but now only God knows when these batches will reach Naija.
