Politics › Re: Dapo Abiodun Says He Took N7bn Loan To Pay May Salaries by Advancedman(m): 8:50am On Jun 25, 2019 |
Sanromeo:
‘I met no money in the treasury’
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has disclosed that he took a loan of N7bn to pay workers’ May salaries.
He said this on Monday while addressing leaders of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
He added that he would rather focus on ensuring good governance in the state than pre-occupy himself with the actions or inactions of his predecessor.
He said “We have by far too many things to do than to begin to be bogged down by what someone did or what he did not do or what he left behind.
“I cannot begin to describe in the open to you the Ogun State that we inherited. I cannot begin to describe it to you. I will not because I have made up my mind that publicly and privately, I will not discuss anything about the past administration.
“We have resolved to draw the line and to move forward from there. We need to be focused. We are going to rebrand and re-launch the security trust fund.”
Abiodun added that his first challenge in office was how to pay the May workers’ salary, saying he had to call his friends who are managing directors of banks to get a credit facility of over N7bn to pay the workers.
He said, “30th day of May was our first day in office. And on the 31st, it dawn on me that it was the end of the month and we need to pay salaries.
“But here we are on our second day in office. I don’t even have an office; I don’t even know how to sign any document; I don’t even know what the protocols are. Suddenly, we realised it was 31st and I intend to keep my end of the tripartite agreement. So, I called the Head of Service; I told him we must pay salary. But he said to me, ‘You are new in government and everybody understands that you just assumed office and we don’t have that expectation of you paying salaries now. They (workers) will understand. There is very little or no money. We can talk to them.’
“I told the Head of Service, whether they (the workers) were expectant or not, it was my promise to the people that salaries would be paid as and when due.”
He added, “So, I picked my phone and called my friends who are MDs in different banks. I told them I needed to pay salaries and this is the little I have; almost nothing in the state account.
“I requested for a credit facility to allow me to pay over N7bn which is the state wage bill. That day, my intention was that maybe one or two will oblige me, but the five banks I called obliged me.”
He said civil servants received their alerts that evening and that gave a sense of fulfillment, being his first task in office.
The governor later held a closed-door meeting with the APC chiefs.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Publicity Secretary of party’s caretaker Committee, Mr Tunde Oladunjoye, said the governor called the meeting to brief them on the activities of his administration in the last one month.

tactius: Thing is, if we all use cheat codes, we cheat the company out of income...which would lead to the company losing income...which would lead to the company closing shop in Nigeria...which would lead to massive job loses.
And it isn't just job losses for those working for MTN...it would be job loses for data resellers, scratch card salespeople, and so on.
And the impact on our economy would be harsh.
I know many people think MTN is ripping us off...but let's be frank, MTN is a business. Many of you who would quote me to insult me run businesses. You won't like it if people used your products for free.
MTN will take its business elsewhere...and Nigeria will suffer.
So, to the man who reported the leak....thank you. You are saving the jobs of millions of Nigerians. Carry go. Stealing is not good.
P.S...If you quote me to insult me and abuse me, I shall report you to the mods. Be polite in your responses please. Your praise for the reporter is inappropriate without considering his motive for his actions which is because he doesn't have MTN SIM. |

The leadership of the Abia State Police Command says it has arrested 15 police personnel under its command for allegedly extorting money from motorists and other members of the public.
The police officers, it was learned are standing orderly room trial at the command’s Headquarters in Umuahia, the state capital.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ene Okon who disclosed this in Aba said that the command would not shield any corrupt person within its workforce that is trying to tarnish its good image.
The CP who was reacting to the calls made by some traditional rulers during a Town Hall Meeting in Aba, asking him to call some of his extortionist officers to order, assured that the Nigeria Police does not shield anyone with criminal behavior.
Okon pointed out that the command is determined to get rid of bad eggs among its personnel, stressing that it was why it declared one Sergeant Collins Akpugo wanted for killing Mr. Christian Onuoha in Umuahia.
He further disclosed that a reward of N500, 000 will be given to whoever has information on his way about.
Okon who maintained that bail is free, however, urged the members of the public to resist the urge of giving money to any officers who tried to extort them, stressing that every citizen ought to know his right and stand on it.
“We are the only organization that when you err, we punish. All of you must have heard about a policeman that shot somebody and killed on the 4th of June in Afara Umuahia?
“After killing, he ran away and disappeared. We have declared him wanted and we have placed N500,000 on his head. Anybody that will give us Information on his arrest collects N500,000 cash from me,” the CP said.
Speaking on bribery and extortion by police officers, Okon said “It takes two to tangle. If you don’t give the police will not take. It starts with you. If you know that you’ve not done anything wrong, if you know that you’re operating your joint according to rules, if a policeman comes, you prove to him that you know you’re right.
“I don’t know that policeman that will not be afraid to even tell you to bring knowledge that you know your right. Insist that you know your right. Let me be very frank to you, I am not supporting police collecting any money.
“As I’m talking to you, I have 15 policemen in my cell. 7 were arrested here at Opobo Junction when I heard the information that they were collecting money. I sent out my monitoring unit and my monitoring unit went there and met them in the act and arrested them.
“I subjected them to investigation and we have completed the investigation and they’re undergoing ‘orderly room trials’. Let God be with them if they’ll escape. At the end of the day, they’ll turn to civilians and be giving money too and see how painful it is.
“I have a monitoring unit. We are not sleeping on it. I don’t like it, but you too must stop giving. If you don’t give, they’ll not take. Insist on your right. My phone number is here, call me, give me the information and see what will happen.”

Look at the way he's attacking an effective method of preaching that has always been effective, right from the Old Testament and even done by Jesus and his Apostles in the New Testament
*Noah was a “herald of righteousness” ( 2 Peter 2:5 ). *Solomon addressed the entire nation of Israel “with a loud voice” ( 1 Kings 8:54-56 ). *Ezra called the people of Israel to repentance as they sat in the “open square” ( Ezra 10:9-14 ). *Ezra read the law of God and explained it to the people of Israel while standing before them ( Nehemiah 8:1-8 ). *Jeremiah stood at the gate of the Lord’s House and “proclaimed” the very words of God ( Jeremiah 7:1-3 ). *Jonah preached on the streets of Nineveh ( Jonah 3:1-5 ). *The prophets of old were hated by the people, because they heralded the word of God at the city gates ( Isaiah 5:29 ; Amos 5:10 ). *The first street preacher, the first to herald the good news in the open-air, was John the Baptist ( Matthew 3:1-2 ; Mark 1:4 ; Luke 3:3 ). *Jesus sat atop a hill and preached the greatest sermon ever preached in the open-air -- the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). *Jesus’s disciples preached on the streets in many villages ( Luke 9:5-7 ). *Peter preached in the open-air at Solomon’s Portico, after healing the lame beggar ( Acts 3:11-26 ). Philip preached the gospel to large crowds on the streets of the city of Samaria ( Acts 8:6-8 ). *Paul preached the gospel to the entire city of Antioch. He was viciously heckled, yet all those whom God had appointed to be saved believed the gospel ( Acts 13:44-52 ). *Apollos boldly and publicly refuted the Jews and proclaimed Christ Jesus in Achaia ( Acts 18:27-28 ). *Paul stood before the judiciary of Athens, atop of Mars Hill, and preached to the men of Athens in the open-air ( Acts 17:22-34 ).
The best place is even the market place. This freezer brain don froze. |
