The sentiment is not wanting to believe the truth that the devil had been given all power on earth by man whom God gave it to in the beginning, because it's the devil. You wouldn't even want to call the devil "the prince of this world" because that title belong to man at first before the devil got it. I also had the same the idea when I was still a kid until I was corrected while preaching it as a kid.
