PoliticsRe: Outstanding Public Officers In Nigeria Since 1999 by Afam4eva(m): 6:29pm On Oct 02, 2013
Jarus: To me, Fashola is the best public officer Nigeria has produced since return to civil rule in 1999

Others that posted (post) decent performance (by our low standard in Nigeria), by my reckoning:

1, Umaru Yar'adua (reversal of VAT, refinery sale, price hike, asset declaration etc)
2, Barth Nnaji (decent effort in power reforms)
3, Sule Lamido (good capital projects efforts, even if a bad politician)
4, Rotimi Ameachi (Decent capital projects efforts in his state)
5, Godswill Akpaebo ( Even if I don't like his politics, I admit he tried for his state. I've been to his state; best raod network of all the about Nigerian states I have visited)
6, Nasir el-Rufai (Not his biggest fan either, but I salute his efforts in FCT)
7, Nuhu Ribadu (You can argue he was selective, but you can't argue his victims were innocent. Plus he returned $15m Ibori bribe)
8, Lamido Sanusi (I commend his work in CBN)
9, Charles Soludo (His attention to ethics may be questionable, but you can't fault his achievement in terms of strenghtening our financial system)
10. Attahiru Bafarawa (I served in Sokoto state, and msut confess he did well for hsi people in terms of capital projects. Good roads everywhere)
11, Rauf Aregbesola (You can fault his politics - can be loud-mouthed, intervening in what doesn't concern him - but you can hardly deny his commitment to the uplift of his people. I was in Osun in August and the whole state looked like one big construction yard, road projects everywhere, despite meagre resources)
12, Ifeuko Omoigui (Decent and silent reform in FIRS; enlarged revenue base for Nigeria)

These are the guys I can give pass mark (50%) of all the public officers (elected or appointed) since 1999. There are others I have herad or read about (e.g Kayode Fayemi, Rochas Okorocha, Peter Obi), but I'm not convinced yet.

Strictly my opinion as a watcher of events in the country.
Personally, i think this list is very flawed. Apart from Soludo, Akpabio and Omogui, El Rufai and maybe Nnaji(he didn't stay for long), i don't see what others are doing there. Where's Akunyili, Donald Duke, Iweala, Fashola?

Pls, how did the match between Sunshine and Rangers end?
SportsRe: Official NPFL Thread. (nigerian Professional Football League) by Afam4eva(m): 6:01pm On Oct 02, 2013
The officiating in the Nigerian league is nothing to write home about. The officiating of the match between Sharks and heartland was appaling and soo glaring. The linesman always raises his flag whenever heartland were on the offensive whether they were offside or not. So, this is what home teams enjoy?

Chai, shooting don suffer. it seems they may just be relegated this season once again.
TV/MoviesRe: Kunle Afolayan's Trailer for 'October 1' Movie by Afam4eva(m): 3:22pm On Oct 02, 2013
MusicCafe: The art directing is top notch, the historical accuracy of the costume, building, cars and the general ambience are not unnoticed. Kunle Afolayan has set another standard. However, the colour grading aesthetic is not very reflective of the timing; is not particularly reflective of the era. May be a sepia not yellow/gold would have worked better, sepia has a way of transporting the audience back in time. Good Work Boss.
It's not necessarily especially when you're not doing a flash back. Olden days was as colorful as today and they need not be sepia toned. It makes films boring and uninteresting to watch. I think the houses, attires, cars and other antiquated materials used were on point.

He is a racist
That was very racist but i'm happe he was not suspended but i think a monetary fine would have done it.
BusinessRe: Would You Be Shy To Make A N500 Counter Withdrawal? by Afam4eva(m): 2:33pm On Oct 02, 2013
fresh_dude: In April, I was outta town and a transfer failed to materialise and seeing as I knew nobody around I decided to withdraw the last 500naira in my account.
I get to the bank at 8am after sleeping hungry and present a filled-out withdrawal slip to the teller and he looks up at me and says I don't ha ve enough to withdraw that amount, I wan die.
He then goes on to explain that I'll be paying a 100naira charge for not using my atm card, come see as I dey smile on top 400naira.
I collect my money leave the bank premises buy bread and butter and tea tutu for 130naira, get a 100naira recharge card and call the mofo who put me through the mess and cursed his generations yet unborn.
Point is, I was overjoyed with my 400naira, would I do that again? Yes, if hunger threatens to put an end to my dreams and happiness.

Soyinka said it's because politicians hijacked Achebe's burial. Achebe has been long buried, so let's bury this issue.
PoliticsRe: Fashola Condemns Nigeria’s Centenary Celebration Plan by Afam4eva(m): 11:39am On Oct 02, 2013
crackhaus: You make me laugh bruv. The topic on this thread, as with Fashola's argument is based on what should or should not be celebrated. It's you guys that started arguing over the mis-use of words like Country, Sovereignty, and so on.

But since you want to get clarification on Country versus Sovereign Country, I'll oblige you bruv.

A SOVEREIGN COUNTRY IS A COUNTRY, aint no damnn difference.
Here is a definition for you;
"A country is the most usual, neutral word for a geograhical area that has or used to have ITS OWN GOVERNMENT".
Now by that definition, we were not a country before 1960 because we were under the direct rule of the British Monarchy/Government...definitely not our own Government.
What we were, if that will serve your purpose to name Nigeria before 1960, is a NATIONALIZATION of people with the same or identical culture and history living in an area under one government (in this case, the British Government).

The amalgamation actually brought together two different nations of people (northerners and southerners) in the most widely rumoured mistake of the century, and this was done out of greed and blind ambition by the British colonialists.
My argument isn't really about what should be celebrated. Like i said, i would care less if neither of them are celebrated. My point is that the argument Fashola gave for why 1914 should not be celebrated is not right. Nigeria was founded or formed in 1914 and not 1960.

And pls don't go thinking that every country is sovereign. That's a pure fallacy. Are you insinuating that Australia, Canada and New Zealand are not countries?
PoliticsRe: Fashola Condemns Nigeria’s Centenary Celebration Plan by Afam4eva(m): 11:00am On Oct 02, 2013
shymexx: Ok, let's say the northern protectorate opted-out like Ahmadu Bello wanted to, before he was persuaded by Zik - and the remnant of the amalgamation formed a country. Would there still be any need for 1914? The answer to that should end this.
if the Northern Nigeria opted out before 1960, 1914 would have still being Nigeria's birthday. The date won't change. Imagine if Eastern Nigeria breaks away from Nigeria in 2015, will the date of birth of Nigeria become 2015? The date of birth will remain 1914 while the date of independence will also remain 1960. Do you think India changed their history when Pakistan(and Bangladesh) broke away?
PoliticsRe: Fashola Condemns Nigeria’s Centenary Celebration Plan by Afam4eva(m): 10:56am On Oct 02, 2013
demmy: And Nigeria did not become a country in 1914. The country has always been there.
So, there was Nigeria before the Northern and Southern protectorate were amalgamated?
