If I talk now, they will say I'm a hater.

We Igbos keep having this notion that Enugu is the best thing after friend rice and while I don't think Enugu is had, we need to do better by making Enugu more than just a beautiful mini city. I was in Akure just a few days ago and it had a lot of resemblance with Enugu and I wonder why I don't see people praising Akure to high heavens. Enugu governors should take the bull by the horn and strive to make Enugu compete with cities like Porthacourt while still maintaining the serenity that it currently has. I think the development of Enugu should begin from the Enugu- Porthacourt expressway.

I am using this opportunity to register my displeasure on behalf of the people of of Iju Road in Pen Cinema Agege over the deplorable state of the road which has made life extremely difficult for motorists who ply the road daily. The roads have become pernicious and unmotorable and is made worse when it rains as cars are stuck for hours and making movement almost impossible. Even pedestrians find it difficult to move about. The situation is worsened by the construction of Pen cinema flyover Bridge that has been abandoned by the current government for a over a year thereby causing unwarranted traffic that can take hours to clear up.

In earnest, i'm calling on the Lagos state Government to rise to it's responsibilities by acting fast and fixing the road. It is an embarrassment that should not be allowed to linger further.

secession is the fastest way to plug brain drain in Igbo land. In fact that is the primary reason I support Biafra. You become a foreigner over night , make though decisions or come back home.
True. But i like being realistic. Are we sayng that if we don't gte Biafra, that we won't do anything about the brain drain? For how long are we going to wait? it behoves on our leaders (which btw, we have to elect better ones) to make a concerted effort to fix the problem. We needs our best hands back and the only way is to create the enabling environment.

The only way to stop Igbo brain drain to other regions is to secede the country. Igbo intellectuals are too relaxed being outside their region, secede will force a lot of them back permanently.
Secession is definitely oe of the ways but don't nder estimate the resolve of Igbos to remain outside Igbo land. Don't be surprised if Igbos, upon secession start trying hard to get Nigerian citizenship. I'm ashamed to say this but the best way may be for local Indegenes to chase all of out of their states. I mean chase us like they did in the 50s and 60s. We've become too relaxed living in Lagos and Abuja.

As long as the country has tourist potential, it's a quality country

just my thoughts sha
Quality in this case simple implies a place that can be termed quality in the eyes of a Consular at the embassy. If a American Consular sees that you have been to Canada before, he's more likely to give you a visa compared to if you have been to South Africa for example.

You are 100% correct. We have a massive brain drain and the less educated keep running and and being voted in by other less educated people.

But the Nigerian factor is the real reason that the brain drain is happening. That’s basically my point.

There are so many igbos that will come back home if they feel that the Nigerian dysfunction won’t affect them. Example is if we were to go back to regionalism where we have good control of our destiny.
of course that's what triggered the problem but it doesn't have to be what sustains it if we do something about it. There's absolutely no guaranty that if we went back to regionalism, that things will change because these Igbos who are in Lagos and Abuja will most likely remain there because they feel those are places that they can get a better life. We need to put in measures to actually bring Igbos backk to Igboland. it annoys me whenever i see young Igbo undergraduates litterd all over Owerri justbecause there schools are somewhere around only to run back to Lagos or wherever they came from, the moment school closes or they graduate making the city look like a Quasi Ghost town.

They day igbos can have unlimited control of their own destiny is the day a true black and powerful people will emerge. It’s unfortunate that we have so many dragging us down in this Nigeria with their hopelessness, lack of ambition and parasitic attitudes.

One thing I know in life is that nothing good last for ever. One day all this will end.
As much as this is true, we as Igbos have a lot of problems bedevelling us that is greater than being a country filled with people who want to pull us down.

Having analyzing all igbo states in comparison to other states in the federation, i've come to the conclusion that ne of our problems is "Intellectual flight" or "Brain Brain" as we love to call it in Nigeria.

The reason for the lack of ambition of the people we call Governors in Igboland is because the citizenry do not demand those things. For instance, there's no reason why Abians will elect derelics like Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodoore Orji and Ikpeazu in succession, except for the fact that most people in Abia state are either less edducated or haave been hypnotized not to know what it good for them in the long term. That's why a sitting governor can go about sharing kerosine all over the place. Now, imagine if Enlightened Igbos in Lagos, Abuja, America and the UK actually moved to Igboland ad setup shops either as doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers etc, don't you think they will elect more credible leaders that actually has something to offer rather than distributing kerosene.

All we need to do is to repatriate our best brains. Ugwuanyi will not build a space center in Enugu except we actually have world class scientist that are ready to settle in Enugu and demand that a space center be built. As long as our people in the east keep demanding "Ota Aka" kind of services, that's what they will get from the government.

The Northerners do not care. They are not as ambitious as the south or Igbos in this case, so they can as well sit on the progressof the country granted it benefits them.

True dat!

It's just the greedy leaders we had during independence who wanted to take over the privileges and material benefits from the white man that they had been watching and envying for decades! Some were genuinely able and had the burning desire to manage the affairs of the newly emergent nation, but they were overwhelmed and outnumbered by the greedy, tribalistic and visionless ones. Not to mention the fact that Nigeria was starting the journey of independence with a huge handicap of schisms, antagonisms and mistrust between its component units.

Personally, i wish the British had stayed to at least the 80s, to help save us from ourselves.....or alternatively, broken up Nigeria so we could all go our separate ways on 1st oct' 1960.
If the British had stayed longer we would have just being like Black South Africans, who are modern day slaves to the white establishment. We may not be where we hope to be but never pray to be a slave in whatever form. We still have our destinies in our own hands and we can determine our own fate. The only thing i think bedevelling us is corruption and of course the unwillingless of the government at the center to decentralize power to the constituent units.

Be rest assured, I'm not complaining to you. Your comment was an avenue I'm using to educate some of our home folks. I briefly tried doing that last year but stopped. I just resumed posting comments maybe last month.

What is going on in igboland is an abomination. Every time I enter aba, coming from calabar, I feel very depressed. Aba people, nay igbo people live in hell compared to calabar people, which is a city I visit often whenever I come home. Almost all the roads within calabar cities are tarred. Some neighborhoods in calabar that was developed 10 years ago have tarred roads with HUGE WIDE gutters that are interconnected, which allows the free flow of water, preventing flooding and opotopoto. But, umungasi aba that was fully developed 40 years ago have absolutely no tarred roads. A few roads that was tarred was not maintained and have since fallen into disrepair. This is not just umungasi aba, but other aba suburbs.

What I see every time I visit home is unimaginable amateurish mediocrity of the worst kind. For example, I'm shocked that igbo states have not figured how to set up a refuse collection system. Drive around igbo cities and you'll see uncollected heaps of refuse dotting the landscape. When you travel from owerri to aba and you join enugu to portharcourt expressway, there are heads and heaps and heaps and heaps and heaps of uncollected refuse in the entire highway stretch, some of, which I saw five years ago. If one does an excavation in igboland and dig twenty feet deep, what they will find is billions of plastic refuse that was never picked up going back probably 50 years ago from the end of the civil war.
Ofuzo, while i respect and agree with your views on the level of decadence in Igboland, i think we should actually study why this issue persists. Is it that Igbos don't just like good things or are there deeper problems that would make us not emulate what goes on in places like Calabar and Uyo.

You first claimed there was no source to the news of elevating Eze Ndigbo, I provided 1 now you are telling us its not credible.

I have provided proof, whether it satisfies you is another thing entirely.

Stoking tribal tension and working on Ibo voters insecurity is the modus operandi of Jimi Agbaje. PDP has always campaigned in Lagos and no one has accused any other candidate of stoking tribal sentiments except Jimi

The below was a tweet he made, Tell what is the purpose of that tweet?
What you provided is not a source let alone it being credible.

As for Jimi Agbaje, he's a politician and would use any means available to him to win. It doesn't mean he likes Igbos more or less than APC's candidates. As far as i'm concerned, the APC whether directly or indirectly have contributed more to this ethnic strife than Jimi Agbaje has ever done. Was Jimi Agbaje the one that force the Oba of Lagos to make that statement? Or was he the one that sent people to stop Igbo voters from exercising their franchise?

I watched Sanwoolu and Hamzat in an interview this morning and i'm leaning more towards them because i think they have more experience of running Lagos than Agbaje but let's not kid ourselves for one second that APC has not tried in more ways than not to whip up ethnic sentiments both at the federal and state level.

So the article that reported it was lying? You asked for evidence I provided one. That is evidence and Do newpapers such as Punch Vanguard Sun especially the last 2 dont they lie regularly? So why is their report more credible than others

These are the campaign promises a news media dated back to 2015 reported about Agbaje, PDP has always relied Ibo votes from time, so why did they not report this about other PDP candidates in lagos from Koro, to Dosunmu why is it only Agbaje?
That was an article by someone named Fabiyi Rotimi and not a news reportage. As much as every newspaper tell lies, the likes of PUNCH, Vanguard and SUN are more credible than a someone writing a blog post and claim whatever they like. I'm not disputing the fact that Agbaje and Lagos PDP have always relied heavily on Igbo voters and i don't have an idea of what they have told thi Igbo voters. But if we must believe anything, we must seen a concrete evidence. I'm too educated to fall for all this antics of politicians. In 2015 when the Oba of Lagos said he will throw Igbos into the lagoon, there was a video evidence for anyone to make an informed decision. So, if you want people to believe that Agbaje said he would elevate the Eze Ndigbo to the Oba of Lagos of status, you must provide proof.

Few days after this, the ceremonial (not officially-recognized) leader of the Lagos-based Igbos commonly referred to as Eze Ndi Igbo openly stated with panache at a social function that “…[the Igbos] must produce the next deputy governor of Lagos [State]…” Annoying and taunting as these statements were to the Oba Of Lagos and indeed to all Yorubas in Lagos (especially the real Lagos indigenes in Epe, Ikorodu, Isale Eko, Olofin Isheri, etc), the governorship candidate of People's Democratic Party in Lagos State Mr Jimi Agbaje consciously or unconsciously worsened the situation by openly stating during his own political campaign that ”… I will elevate Eze Ndi Igbo to the status of Oba of Lagos …” and subsequently added during another campaign that “… I will appoint 6 Igbos as commissioners …”

https://www.thenigerianvoice.com/news/176439/jimi-agbajes-ethnically-coloured-political-campaign-oba-of.html
That is an articulate by an individual who like many people on this forum have not provided a concrete evidence to this. I can claim that Sanwoolu said when he becomes the governor, he will deal with Igb people in Lagos and even write an article on it and promote it as truth. Agbaje is just a victim of being in the opposition and relying on Igbo support to become governor. if you can provide a reportage by news outlets such as PUNCH, SUN, Vanguard on where Agbaje actually made those statements then i will concede. I can't believe there's neither a video nor audio evidence in this time and age.

In the history of Lagos politics, no politician has ran a divisive, ethnic-based and tribalistic campaign like Jimi Agbaje, governorship candidate of the PDP.

When Jimi Agbaje contested the 2007 governorship election under the defunct Democratic Peoples Allliance (DPA), he ran a very robust, issue-based campaign which was acceptable to all Lagosians.

Fast forward to 2015, Jimi Agbaje began a campaign of calumny which seeks to knock the heads of Yorubas living in Lagos against non-indigenes, especially our Igbo brothers from South- East. His promise to elevate Eze Ndigbo to the status of Oba of Lagos greatly angered Oba Rilwan Akiolu, making him to utter the notorious 'perish in the Lagoon' comment?

Now Agbaje as the PDP governorship candidate is running the same campaign again which has pitched Igbos living in Lagos against Yoruba. We say enough is enough.

Yeyesewa of Lagos
That's how you people go about lying like kids. At no time did Agbaje say he will upgrade the Eze Ndigbo to the same level as the Oba of Lagos. If anybody is divisssive, it is the APC governemt who are hell bent on twarting democracy by intimidating people who they think do not want to vote for them.
