~Bluetooth: And this is the face of our military, the people who are charged with the task of defending our nation and who are supposed to uphold the highest levels of discipline. If this is how they treat the rest of us (in this case the police) with such disdain, how are they expected to fight for us?? These people are just bully's, people who pick on those they think they are stronger than. Police, military, customs area boys etc are all just armed gangs. They do what they want, extort and fight to show they are harder. And this just goes to show how the police are pussies (excuse my language)!! You're in an ARMOURED Personnel Carrier (emphasis on armoured) and your running away When soldiers burned down the police HQ in surulere police did nothing, when they killed a whole DPO and his deputy (and many other policemen) in cold blood last year they did nothing. Again, after the Navy has damaged their vehicles and assaulted their personnel, for doing their job, the police will do nothing. Actually, they may set up a committee but that's about it. |

Decryptor: Firstly, where do you get your statistics on the police from? Secondly, it absolutely untrue that people from the North and West hate Igbos. I can't understand why you would say that and you can not just generalise. Here in Lagos I don't see people hating Igbos, if that was the case, then Igbo people would live in special communities for protection. Igbo people move freely and settle in all parts of the country without being attacked or molested. The only exception is in the core North where all Christians are targeted by fundamentalists because they are Christian. These people hate and want to kill yoruba, Igbo and even hausa Christians. This is why you have the sabon gari (or whatever it's called) where non-hausa non-muslims live for fear of attack. I think you're the one who hates people from other regions BTW, I feel strongly about this issue because my immediate family is made up of yoruba, igbo and calabar. |

chima12: And we have idioots like alex ekwueme parading themselves as Igbo leaders but they will not utter a word when their people are being killed by fulani policemen and soldiers in Igbo land;rather the fo0l prefers to host arewa people for selfish gains.it is high time all security agents are posted to they geographical zones of origin.the killers of these people must be brought to book.these killings are an act of genecide against the Igbo race, the united nations must be made aware of this. I very much doubt it's genocide against igbo people, because there is no way you can be a hausa or yoruba (or any other tribe) group in the middle of igbo land and just be killing igbos and nobody will know?? Its quite simply murder, you know what politicians and police are like so chill. Your igbo police/military/politicians are no different to the ones in the rest of the country 2 Likes |
Crime / Re: More Dead Bodies Found In Amansea River by Afolabs101: 10:19am On Jan 26, 2013 |
These bodies are obviously people who have been murdered at various times and dumped in the river. Quite possibly they were dumped in a certain part where there is little human activity and due to nature may have been swept from their original places down the river to the point where they appeared in a populated area. I will bet anything that the police are complicit. SARS is basically a hit squad for politicians and wealthy crooked businessmen. Remember they are the ones who killed that Ogun politician (Dipa Dina) in broad daylight. |

taharqa: He did not meet power at 2,400MW. Obj left it around 3,000MW and by 2009/2010 when the NIPP's had come on stream it had increased to between 3,900MW and 4,000MW. The peak this year was just above 4,500MW like you said. Also, remember that the extra capacity is due to the NIPP's that were started long before GEJ came into power. I'm not saying Obj did anything as those who built IPP's did so as business investments, while the $16bn the Government spent seemed to have vanished into thin air. |
Politics / Re: Christiane Amanpour To Interview President Jonathan Tonight by Afolabs101: 1:05am On Jan 24, 2013 |
@ifihearam and taharqa, Must you insult people?? You have your view, others have a different view, stick to the facts to make your points without calling people all sorts of names. The same goes for those opposing you, there is no need to hurl insults at the President. Lets keep this objective! Some people are saying that GEJ is working, power is improving, corruption is reducing, security is better etc But do not forget that he is a product of the PDP who has ruled Nigeria for almost 14 years. POWER - it is a great idea to privatise the genco's and disco's but our transmission infrastructure has a maximum capacity of less than 6,000MW and covers less than 40% of the country with no plans to invest in and upgrade it. Manitoba are to operate it only, without significant investment. We talk of going from just under 4,000MW in 2009/2010 to a peak of 4,500MW this year OIL THEFT - Til date, NNPC/the Federal Government do not know how much oil is extracted from the ground, they rely on the IOC's to give account to them. Put in meters at all flow stations and monitor them. Otherwise do not complain about oil theft. Pipeline stealing accounts for only a fraction of what is stolen. Politicians in collusion with NNPC and the IOC's fill VLCC's with crude they do not pay for. The real problem is at the terminals. CORRUPTION - According to Transparency International, in 2011 we were 143 out of 183, in 2012 we were 139 out of 174, which is slightly worse. In our history as a nation the longest prison sentence served for corruption is 18 months (Bode George and Alams). Both of whom are PDP top shots with regular access to the President and other officials who have a duty to fight and abhor corruption. The $12bn oil windfall, $16bn spent on power, the pensions scandal, Halliburton, Siemens, the subsidy scandal and Farook and Otedola, the list goes on and on. SECURITY - At least those of us on Nairaland are well informed of the extra judicial killings carried out by the Police and the Military in the South alone. Just read Metro section of Punch and every other day you will count another victim. I don't live in the North but is it not the same military and police? Also, there is no clear plan to deal with BH - dialogue one day, no dialogue the next. The "BH are in my Government" statement and the links that have been established between Government figures and BH show that there is clearly some level of Government complicity. My President needs to put me and the rest of us first and chase out those in his Govt who are involved in this complicity. Now I'm not saying GEJ is responsible for all of this but with the way the country is, the President can not just say "we are working and things will get better". He owes it to the people to firstly admit the flaws, then decisively deal with them. |
Politics / Re: Christiane Amanpour To Interview President Jonathan Tonight by Afolabs101: 5:49pm On Jan 23, 2013 |
I don't know why you guys are arguing over naming 20 presidents and insulting each other. The fact remains we have serious problems in this country and it does not seem like much is being done to address them. There's no plan, no agenda! Under Yaradua we had the 7 point plan (even though it was not followed) now we don't have any plan. GEJ's intelligence is irrelevant for now as he is there for the next couple of years still, if he likes let him name every world leader, but we still have the menace of BH which does not seem to be going away. We've been told over and over again that BH's days are numbered, that they will be eradicated by June 2012, that they are in retreat etc. But the bombings and the killings go on. Do you know what would have happened if the Emir had been killed? We could well have had a war on our hands when the Imams tell the hungry and poor Northern youth that its the south or christians who were responsible. And we haven't even got to the economy yet. The West are putting in place austerity measures while Nigeria is spending more. Our number one revenue earner (NNPC) can't even meet its debt obligations (can anyone say insolvent?). We're borrowing hundreds of billions of Naira to fund a budget deficit based on a budget that is flawed (recurrent expenditure is way too high). IOC's are no longer investing in the upstream oil sector, which means production is reducing. The US is increasing their production which means oil prices will be coming down. Less production + lower oil prices will be catastrophic for Nigeria. So who cares whether GEJ can recite names of presidents or not, something needs to be done because if we continue along this path we will soon get to the stage where we start defaulting on our loans..... |
Politics / Re: Christiane Amanpour To Interview President Jonathan Tonight by Afolabs101: 12:35pm On Jan 23, 2013 |
If the interview is focused on terrorism then GEJ is finished. All she has to do is quote his previous statement about BH sponsors being in his government or Azazi's statement about how PDP is responsible for the violence or how BH members who have been arrested have been linked to the Vice President and other senior government officials. 1 Like |

Politics / Re: Nigerian Troops Ill-equipped For War In Mali! by Afolabs101: 11:57am On Jan 21, 2013 |
Kudos to the soldiers, it takes a lot to risk your life for your country. but they do not have the kind of training, discipline and kit to represent the N1 trillion the country is spending on Defence. 1- Being transported by road rather than military plane 2- No real special forces - US has the Navy Seals, UK has the the SAS, even countries like Poland and Bangladesh have their respective special forces. Please don't say Navy SBS, because they don't go on missions (I stand to be corrected). 3- Indiscipline in peace time can only lead to indiscipline in the field. 4- With the level of corruption going on in the country and within the top hierarchy of the military, you can not expect to have a stellar armed forces, even if the soldiers are good and courageous men. 5- Our military has been unable to put a stop to the BH problem (they just attacked one of the most important men in the North). 6- The Motive - the army commanders are alleged to chop most of the UN allowance the soldiers get, this is allegedly the reason they send out as many troops as possible. A retired General who very knowledgeable said that approximately 70% of Nigeria's army is abroad on peace keeping missions. The Nigerian military like all other public institutions (police, customs, civil service etc) needs an overhaul |

Now that she doesn't have access to subsidy money, she needs to get creative: Ban importation of private jets and issue waivers to those who are ready to part with substantial amounts of moolah! How else can you explain banning import of jets because you want to come up with a new policy and you say you don't know how long it will take Remember, this woman was one of GEJ's chief fund raisers in the last election. P.s. before tribalists come and start defending "their own", the Yoruba, Hausa, Ijaw, Efik, Fulani, Kanuri etc politicians are just as corrupt as the Igbo ones. 3 Likes |

Foreign Affairs / Bulgarian Politicians Heart Stopping Moment (VIDEO) by Afolabs101: 10:56pm On Jan 19, 2013 |
Heartstopping moment would-be assassin aims gun at Bulgarian opposition leader's head and pulls the trigger... but victim survives after weapon misfires A Bulgarian politician today survived an extraordinary assassination attempt when a man stormed the stage and held a gun to his head as he was giving a speech. Fortunately for Ahmed Dogan, leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, the weapon misfired giving him time to react and hit the would-be assassin's hand out of the way. Before he could attempt a second shot the unidentified suspect was tackled to the ground by security guards and delegates attending the conference in Sofia. Television footage showed the man jumping out of the audience and interrupting a speech by 58-year-old Dogan, who has led the party for almost a quarter of a century. In a split second, he raises the gun to Mr Dogan's head but it appeared to misfire. The politician then knocked the gun away and fell to the floor as he attempted to flee. Security guards and delegates rushed onto the stage where they wrestled the attacker to the ground. A separate group surrounded a shocked Mr Dogan in a protective shield. Politicians then appeared from the audience and begin rained blows on the suspect as he was pinned to the ground. He was later pictured being taken away by police bloodied and bruised. 'Ahmed Dogan is in good health. Everything is under control,' Movement for Rights and Freedoms official Ceyhan Ibryamov told journalists. Police said they arrested a 25-year-old man from the Black Sea town of Burgas who was also carrying two knives. The liberal MRF party represents ethnic Turks and other Muslims who make up about 12 per cent of Bulgaria's 7.3 million-strong population. Dogan is seen as one of Balkan country's most influential political figures. Two years ago he was acquitted after a high-profile corruption trial into payments he received as a consultant for a hydro power project. The MRF was a junior partner in the previous Socialist-led cabinet before switching to the opposition following the 2009 elections. In 1996, former Prime Minister Andrei Lukanov was found shot dead near his home in Sofia, though attacks on politicians are rare. Are we at war with the US If we're not, they have no business sending drones into our airspace. With the level of corruption going on, the country is heading for a disaster. With all the money NNPC is making, why do they have to take loans to pay debts? Remember NNPC is where the majority of our money comes from. If we're unae to pay our debts by next year, do you think there will still be a Federal Government? Election can come next year if the President and VP are both impeached or both resign. It can also happen if there is military intervention. Major civil unreast/revolution can lead to the Govt resigning and a caretaker Govt taking over until elections. |
