theoctopus:

Stop talking nonsense my friend. You are not even questioning the fact that Saraki was going around with 7 policemen. How many policemen does Nigeria have? He is not entitled to police escort, period. If he had any, it was simply goodwill from the police and it was even ridiculous. If one senator has 7 policemen, the 109 senators will have 7 X 109 = 763 policemen. So how many will remain for the rest of Nigeria. Please stop supporting bad thing. He should go and hire man o' war and pay for his own security like every other Nigerian.

Actually Saraki is entitled to security personnel as a former Governor, as state in the "State Public Office Holders (Payment of Pension) Bill". Now I'm no lawyer, but I should think the Police would respect state laws, unless they don't have the manpower, in which case they should write to inform the state government.

Also, check and see which ex governor does NOT have mobile policemen guarding him. Even going by the Police's rationale, he is a public figure, former governor, Senator and a part of the group fighting politically with the President. If that doesn't deserve Police protection, I don't know what does!

If this man is assassinated tomorrow, the Police will come out to say the usual "we will leave no stone unturned until we catch the killers"

@OP, it's definitely Zenith and GTB and I think it's on purpose. Look at the staff you see in bank head offices and branches in the "VIP" areas like VI, Ikoyi, Maitama, Asokoro etc. I can only imagine what the staff at their branches in Aso Rock and the National Assembly look like. The recruitment process for front desk officer at Zentih Aso Rock branch would probably put MBGN to shame tongue

Either Suntai is well enough to lead the state or he is not, make up your mind and don't sit on the fence with this "one will rule, while the other one will give the instructions"

Find a military officer to pose as your relative. Many would relish the opportunity to teach an arrogant police officer a lesson. Better still I you have a relative who's an officer.

Or go and try to make a deal with the DPO

Either way, you'll end up having to drop some change!

taharqa: Lol... Keep foooling yourself there, Bros. As at today, GEJ fully controls 31 State Delegates. He controls d Board of Trustees, NEC and now, NWC. In fact, d reason for d Desperation shown by these Rebels is cos they know that d PDP Presidential Primary as at today is all but settled....

GEJ does have a good chance of winning the primaries as he can count on the delegates of the PDP opposition states, giving him 28 to the "New PDP's" 8 so far.

However, even if he wins the primaries, if these New PDP Governors go against him in the election, GEJ will be facing an opposition of 20 states to his 16. That will most likely lead to a run-off.

All it takes is for a Tambuwal or Lamido to defect to APC and be given the ticket. You might find some PDP Governors doing what Tinubu and Co did to Ribadu in 2011.

Billyonaire: How many people survive plane crash in history, people should be thankful for his life first, not bringing politics into it.

With the amount of ordinary Nigerians that die everyday in air, road and water accidents as well as this who are killed extrajudicially sometimes by the State, you're unlikely to find much sympathy for public figures on this site. That being said, we thank God he's alive.

However, he is 1 man in control of a state of just under 2.7 million people, the 3rd largest state by land area and with a vast boarder shared with a foreign country. So far no concrete evidence or proof has been offered by the state government of Governor Suntai's health or capability to run a state.

This poses a huge national security risk considering the very real possibility of BH under fire in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa deciding to take advantage of a power vacuum/struggle and move into the state that borders Adamawa, Plateau and Gombe (all 3 have terrorism problems).

He needs to address the state/nation to assure us that he's well enough to lead the state. Otherwise he should resign and attend to his health undecided

@eGuerilla - these churches stream their programmes online but people still insist in going to the programmes in person. You can not regulate the people that will come to your church programme. Will you advertise in the newspapers or give instructions to certain parishes that they are not allowed to come?

@topic -

1- There is free association of movement, so you can not reduce or control the people go to these services.
2- These churches do liaise with the FRSC and other govt agencies to try and reduce and control the traffic congestion.
3- Where else can these churches go? They must be on an expressway because of the large volume of people attending.
4- You can not tax a church because many people attend their site. You can place a toll on the road but there is no justification for taxing a church because lots of people attend. What about all the factories and all the trailers who ply the road.

The truth is we just have to grin and bear it and hope that govt fixes the road. Remember you don't need to tax the churches on that road because we already have enough provision for road construction and other infrastructure.

Jungle Justice is simply a way for the people in the area to gain some morbid excitement from a live show. They simply wanted to torture and kill two young boys that day.

1- The robbery that occurred was four days prior.
2- They were not found with anything incriminating (no weapons, money, goods etc).
3- They identified themselves.
4- One of the mob attempted to cut off the penis if one of the victims. This shows that the ringleaders simply wanted to torture those boys.

Career / Re: How Did You Succeed With Your 2-2 Or 3rd Class? by Afolabs101: 11:44am On Jul 27, 2013
I got a 3rd in my first degree which I did in the UK. I then did my masters there and came back to work in the family biz, so no problems there. Family biz kind of crashed so I traded for a bit on my own just to get by but I needed a job desperately.

This is when I found out how difficult it is for a 3rd class degree holder to even get an interview, let alone a job!

I finally got a job in a subsdiary of a govt institution and had been there for 3 years when the parent company announced they were recruiting.

Now the salary and perks were much better in the parent company and all the oga's who I worked closely with there said I was a shoe in as ii was considered an insider.

After a good interview and recomendation to proceed to the parent company on my level which at the time was SS03. However when the MD found out I got a 3rd in my first degree I finished 8 years prior, she changed my offer.

In spite of my masters, 7 years work experience (3 of those years within the institution) etc I was offered SS01. That's two grades below what I was on and three grades below what I'm on now!

The long and the short of it is if you got a 3rd, you need to do 2 things:

1- Get any additional qualifications you can

2- Go into business because no matter how many qualification you get there are employers who will not even give you a chance because of your first degree

I know Police, SSS, Customs, NDLEA etc have constitutional backing granting them powers of arrest.

But do KAI, LASTMA, or any group of poeple the state government put together have the power to arrest and if so where does it say so?

Foreign Affairs / Re: Cameroun Gay Right Campaigner Tortured And Killed by Afolabs101: 3:21pm On Jul 19, 2013
Firstly, I condemn in its entirety the act of torturing a fellow human being to death. In Nigeria like these other countries, homosexuality (state of mind) is not illegal, but engaging in homosexual practices is. So the law is clear, people caught in the act of homosexuality are guilty of a crime and are to be prosecuted and sent to prison.

Now, armed robbers are lynched because the people say the police will release them and there is the likelihood of the robbers coming back to exact revenge, making a clear case of defence. In the case of gays, there is no danger to other members of public unless the gay in question is violent or a rapist. So there is no need to kill them in order to "protect" the society at large.

Now for those who want to quote the bible to justify treatment of gays, please remember that it is a cardinal sin to take the life of another. So you can not say because someone is gay, we have the right to kill them.

Nigeria has laws in place that make any homosexual acts illegal, so if you catch someone engaging in this crime (just like any other), have them arrested.

For those who are here rejoicing about the torture and death of this man, remember that his killers committed a sin in the form of murder. Murder is murder, there is no justification

The Commissioner of Police has on several occassions stated clearly that he has banned any form of demonstration/protest. When it's pro-amaechi it's banned but anti-amaechi supporters gather with weapons and become violent and the same Commissioner now says the aiprot is a public place.

@ the bolded, that's a really dumb statement. Nobody has the right to be violent and throw stones, destroy property and generally constitute a nuissance. And the police with tear gas couldn't disperse the crowd or at least control those that had become violent?
Politics / Re: Will Loans From China Salvage Nigeria's Infrastructural Deficits? by Afolabs101: 10:12am On Jul 14, 2013
@ujoinme, my fear is the chinese govt will choose chinese firms who are partly owned by the chinese govt.

How do we know the chinese firms will do a good/complete job before the chinese govt pays them?

With China completely byspassing nigeria in the bidding and award of contracts, we have no say in how much it will cost us. What if they insist that it will cost N10bn to do 1km of single lane road?

Also, there is the issue of revising contract sums which chinese firms may insist on as they colude with their Nigerian govt friends.

Also, no local content. China may choose to import all ther materials, even those available locally. For example they may choose to import all the cement they'll be needing.

Also, this presents a dangerous dimension as we are basically outsourcing our governments work to a foreign govt and China lest we forget is known to be slightly corrupt, with a govt that is highly un-transparent.

In a comunist country, there's no bidding for contract, the govt just decides who to gve it to. These are the people we trust our nation with?

Last bullet: we've basically told the int'l community that we're so corrupt we can't even handle our infrastructure development

What do you want to happen? Hand them over to the police and by next month they will be bailed and then come back and kill the recharge card seller and all those that exposed them?
A thief is a thief. He can repent when he is dead, not before

What's wrong with jungle justice? How do you know the person being beaten and burnt is guilty? The word of a couple of random people is enough for you to join in the brutal killing of someone?? See below:

1- ALUU 4, we all know about that one
2- Samuel of Surulere, a 12 year old boy was accused of attempting to kidnap a younger child. A mob grabbed him, took the N50 note from his pocket and said he was using it to lure the child into kidnapping. No single witness to the supposed crime or the child who Samuel was accused of kidnapping were present.
3- Two destitutes in Lagos were eating raw meat that some people claimed was human meat, they were stripped beaten and almost killed but for police intervention. In the end it was confirmed that it was beef they were eating.
4- A woman again in Lagos was walking with her children and their cousins. A mob said she was a child kidnapper as it is not logically possible to have that number of children with her. She was stripped and beaten before police intervention.
5- The many cases where someone has accused an innocent person of stealing his Joystick and the next thing is the mob starts the beating.

There are many more examples of innocent people accused of theft, kidnapping, hit and run accidents etc who are killed in the name of jungle justice.

I am not against the death penalty for armed robbers and kidnappers, but let us be sure that the suspect is actually guilty before we kill them. There were lots of comments of people saying "good riddance" and "they deserve it", people were basically rejoicing the killing of the ALUU 4.

Next thing we hear they were not robbers and were innocent, now the tributes start flowing in and those that rejoiced earlier ate their words.

Remember that God is watching, so as you leave comments saying how good it is that those people died, remind yourselves that you do not actually know whether the people who were killed were armed robbers or innocent. If the police are willing to kill innocent people and label them armed robbers, it stands to reason that other unscrupulous members of society may do the same.

Jungle Justice is dangerous and must be stopped, however if it is what the people want, it should be regularised somehow.

The reason I say this is too many innocent people are killed in the name of jungle justice. Once two or three people start shouting "ole ole", that's it for you. You may be an innocent bystander and suddenly a few area boys start calling you thief, the next thing you know, you're beaten to a pulp and then set on fire. Even if you claim your innocence, they will say you are lying. They can even take the money from your pockets or any of your belongings and say it is "evidence" of your theft.

This can happen to anybody, here are just 5 examples:

1- ALUU 4, we all know about that one
2- Samuel of Surulere, a 12 year old boy was accused of attempting to kidnap a younger child. A mob grabbed him, took the N50 note from his pocket and said he was using it to lure the child into kidnapping. No single witness to the supposed crime or the child who Samuel was accused of kidnapping were present.

4- A woman again in Lagos was walking with her children and their cousins. A mob said she was a child kidnapper as it is not logically possible to have that number of children with her. She was stripped and beaten before police intervention.
5- The many cases where someone has accused an innocent person of stealing his dick and the next thing is the mob starts the beating.

There are many more examples of innocent people accused of theft, kidnapping, hit and run accidents etc who are killed in the name of jungle justice.

I recently saw the video of the Uniben student who was shot for no reason by a drunk DPO, as he was lying on the floor bleeding to death, the crowd that had gathered were there singing and shouting. Aside the fact that he was an innocent student, should we really be dancing, singing and rejoicing as a human being is being roasted alive, or in this case bleeding to death??

YES, a lot of times, the only way to stop a criminal is to kill him, so that he will not continue with his/her reign of terror, but we must be sure that the person being killed is guilty otherwise it is a clear case of MURDER

The solution: take photo's of the armed robber, deliver him to the DPO and tell him that if that man is released the community will raise hell for them. If the mob can repel two teams of policemen, they can force the DPO's hand.

KINGwax: u shld ask why england, whom her citizens pay as much as 40% in tax still pay tolls for bridges.
Most times u guys talk without reasoning!

The simple reason for tollin is

1. To discourage congestion on the new bridge

2. Free space for the old lane

3. Collect more cash from the rich who are not complaing anyway

4. Use the same cash to provide free amenities for u poor Id!ots that evade taxes and still want free things!!!

In the UK, only the highest earners have the highest portion of their income taxed and you can in no way compare what they get in return for paying tax.

1. LASG should have followed the original plan and had the bridge run from Femi Okunnu to past Osborne, linking 3rd mainland. This option would mean much less traffic without having to toll.

2. See above. This would have freed VI and Ikoyi from traffic in between Lekki and the Mainland.

3. The majority of people passing that route everyday are middle and lower class. People working white collar or blue collar jobs commuting from the Mainland to Lekki to work or vice versa. This myth that it's only the rich getting taxed is absolute rubbish.

4. Most people are willing to pay taxes if they feel it is being put to good use. Building a bridge using tax payers money and then turning around to say those tax payers should pay to use the bridge to me amounts to double taxation.

2 - Which political party will want an NGF chairman who will not be loyal to their party? And since they have the majority, why will they not want to influence it?

3. Excess crude account, SWF: Is rivers state not a major beneficiary of those funds with massive projects like the east west road going on?

4. Amaechi as VP: This is 2013, 2 years from 2015. So why will Amaechi be campaigning for VP to anyone in 2013. why will he be campaigning in 2013 for the 2015 election?

5- And to think that he was seen, according to some of the reports out there, having meetings with opposition people, how should his party react?

1 - This is a completely unsubstantiated claim, any proof?

2 - So it is OK for the PDP, with GEJ as the leader to influence the goings on of an association. So they should disregard an election where 35 Governors participated in, collated votes and declared Amaechi winner with 19 votes to Jang's 16?

3 - The Fed. Govt. wish to withhold funds meant for the states and local governments without their permission. The Fed. Govt have a budget and works ministry, it is either they use those mighty federal resources to fix federal roads or they request permission from the states and LG's to deduct some of their allocations for the SWF. Afterall, this is a FEDERATION

4 - Another completely unsubstantiated claim, any proof? Where or when has Amaechi ever campaigned for any office in the 2015 elections. Please do not say campaign posters that appeared in some area of Abuja for a few days as posters of GEJ, Sambo, Babangida Aliyu etc have also been seen.
