Culture / Oniru Estate In Victoria-Island Under-Curfew For Oro Festival by Afolabs101: 11:58am On Nov 01, 2013 |
These notices were put up all over the estate after palace security drove around last Sunday announcing the upcoming Oro Festival. Residents have been informed that from between the hours of 10pm and 4am they are to remain in their houses "in their own best interest". No outside lights, all windows must be shut, curtains closed, no generators, no noise, no peeping! This is 2013 and Oniru Estate is prime real estate in Lagos, how is this possible?? Didn't Fashola say that people holding these traditional festivals should not hinder people of other religions from going about their business?? Can any other religious body enforce a no movement order because they are doing their special prayers 1 Like |

IGBO-SON: They are both on trial for the allegations against them. I believe they are guilty and I hope they both fry! Same goes for Stella. By the way, you do know that if Stella is removed, she will be replaced by another Igbo, so what's the problem?? When Bart Nnaji was removed, he was replaced by another Igbo guy, that's Federal Character. SO why defend someone who has been caught, why not call for her removal and replacement with someone better, maybe someone who will give the East 5 new international airports, not someone who's major concerns are buying cars 3 Likes |

taharqa: The Info used in this article is largely correct. They came from figures (d limited) ones d LASG agreed to release to d public on this FRAUD- I think it was from d Works or Finance Commissioner. There was a Thisday Article that reported d full scale of d figures involved as given by LASG officials (smone opened a thread sm time back here but I hv not been able to track it down; BUT I certainly wud and wud post it soon). You may then begin to get a sense of d extent of the FRAUD... Please provide a link to that article @Post, This has been a fraudulent project from the beginning. I suffer most days in traffic and then have to part with my hard earned money so because people are too busy looting. I strongly believe that with the money Lagos State earns plus Federal allocation, the state should have absolutely no problem upgrading that road from VI to Epe. The amount of tax collected by Lagos on that stretch is mind-boggling!! FASHOLA, REMOVE THOSE TOLLS |

Sincere 9gerian: What is obvious is that the N600 millions vehicles were purchased in 2011, there was complete LOCAL MEDIA BLACKOUT on the incident. The question is why? How is this obvious You and the site offer absolutely no shred of proof or evidence to back up the claim. Stop lying! Media blackout? But one website managed to defy the blackout. take dat: Recycling of falsehood is the order of the day. This was reported by some mushroom news site in 2011. Surprisingly, from 2011 till date, I know that Fashola's official vehicle has been a Range Rover and not a Toyota Prado. That alone defeats the authenticity of this story. That's true, he's been using that Range for years. Anyway, a Governor would always buy a land cruiser and not a Prado |

We need to see some proof, you can't just come out to make an allegation with absolutely no truth to it! However, IF this is true then it is truly a waste. 1 bulletproof vehicle per term should be the maximum for Governors. For the President it should be a maximum of 6, one per zone. |

But to answer your questions, there are no issues with the transmission. Don't know what you mean by "front shock clearance looks to low"?? The car has air suspension with adjustable ride height, so the ground clearance changes at any point in time depending on the setting |

Anyway you try to justify this, it is heartless and most selfish ordeal for her to put her husband and children through. Not to talk of the police resources wasted on the investigation. Whatever she may have been going through, there must have been a better way to deal with it. |
Politics / Re: Fake Police Commissioner Arrested In Abuja by Afolabs101: 4:55pm On Oct 15, 2013 |
This fight over which tribe is worst is extremely childish because it is impossible for either side to ever win as there is no way to prove it. This means the argument will go on and on and on and on forever. Nigerians will continue to commit crimes, which will be reported in the press. So here on Nairaland we will continue to have posts about criminals who have been caught. Some will be Yoruba, some will be Igbo plus others from other tribes. So will you people continue to argue like this on every thread? 1 Like |
Politics / Re: Lagos, Oando Complete N3.2b Power Plant by Afolabs101: 11:39am On Oct 11, 2013 |
9jadelta: firstly, don't read any meaning to my post. I didn't say the project is a bad thing, it is a welcomed development and I think every state should emulate it. I understand your points and I'm not here to defend fashola as I feel this discussion should be objective. That being said, I disagree with you on the $1m per MW as we do not know all that's gone into the project. What if they had to pull down some buildings where the plant was located, or if they had to encroach on land they did not own and had to pay compensation to land owners. We really don't know what had to go into the project. To me the N3.2bn seems high as I have assessed other power projects that were cheaper and I know how government works in this country. I can point to the Lekki expressway that I ride on everyday, that I do not believe for one second should cost N1bn per KM. I can point to the link connection they did for Falomo bridge which I was told was overinflated and I believe it was (just my opinion). However, we should be careful and be objective. Until you know exactly what went into the project or have the cost breakdown, you can not come out to categorically say that it is too expensive. |
Politics / Re: Lagos, Oando Complete N3.2b Power Plant by Afolabs101: 11:24am On Oct 11, 2013 |
eyenCalabar: I think almost everybody here can't be against Lagos State or it's progress on this. We have to accept this fact and move on, let's call a spade, a spade. The said amount of money is just too much for 10.34MW. I am not a tribalist but this is just the truth though it's a welcome development. Again, the project is just for a select few places and doesn't really affect the people [except via street light]. Government should embark on projects that really affects the masses and not something like this. Even if I was a Lagosian, I wouldn't celebrate this pls. I don't understand how people can just say the figure is too high when they do not know what the N3.2bn contract sum was used for. The amount of pipelines, other auxiliary equipment etc could have gone in to it. So if you feel it's too high, then investigate and come and tell us your findings. I live in Lagos and I'm Yoruba but I also call a spade a spade. If this contract sum has been inflated then lets come out with some sort of facts to back it up. You can't compare one plant with another built somewhere else, environment, soil, climate etc are all determinants of the cost of a power plant. @eyenCalabar, if you see my previous post, I have outlined five reasons why this is a good project. This affects the masses who rely on the state government and reduces recurrent expenditure which affects all of us 1 Like |
Politics / Re: Lagos, Oando Complete N3.2b Power Plant by Afolabs101: 10:34am On Oct 11, 2013 |
9jadelta: my calculation The average cost per mega watt is $1m or approximately N160m, however that is for the machinery only. One would have to scrutinise the breakdown of the contract cost to know if the N3.2bn is inflated. Other aspects such as land cost and gas pipelines must be considered, because even though a gas line runs through the area, they will have to connect the power plant to it. What I would suggest is for people like you to investigate these things and bring them out into the open. An IPP that will remove 70 diesel generators makes a lot of sense but as with all things Government (whether Lagos, FG or any other state), lets ensure that we are not overspending. @ Those people rubbishing what Lagos is doing, I don't think you really understand the concept: 1- Lagos state government structures at Alausa are to be powered by one gas power plant rather than 70 generators 2- There will be a great reduction in energy costs, leading to lower recurrent expenditure 3- There will be a great reduction in pollution, especially for those who live or work within that environment 4- There will be no power outage, meaning more efficient government operations 5- By removing state structures from the National Grid, more electricity is freed up to be used by the rest of us. So how is this project a bad thing? 4 Likes |

babyosisi: The Court established that there was a relationship between the two, so already it would be difficult to prove the sex act was not consensual. When the Judge says the victim did not show bruising on her private parts, it is not to show the court or the Judge, but at least she soul have come with a Doctor's report stating there was signs of bruising or forced entry. Also she could have exhibited torn clothes or underwear as further exhibits. Without any of the above it would be very difficult for the Judge to find the accused Monarch guilty |
Politics / Re: Lagos Near Self Sufficiency In Power Generation by Afolabs101: 3:44pm On Oct 03, 2013 |
taharqa: GereguII was NOT started under OBJ; its construction started unda GEJ (see comment above).... The very Complex Implementation of the Power Electricity Bill practically started (except perhaps for d unbundling of PHCN ) unda GEJ in 2010/2011; Up to early 2012 for instance, no State Govt cud distribute any electricity even if it produces it.... Some of those mini Plants/Generators the LASG are building are evidently Gas-based, while sm are Diesel-based (and as I said, d programme is commendable)...... PS: I very generously acknowledge d very positive role played by OBJ in d Power Sector, particularly in his initiatives; but Assert that Virtuali all d Implementation (as well as sm other few initiatives) is been done by GEJ. It is GEJ that SAVED d Power Reform process and did/doing most of d work (Yar'adua for instance, not only didn't do almost nothing but in fact succeeded in initialing derailing it); any attempt to argue otherwise is what is been frowned on I'm not taking away what this administration has done in the power sector, mostly under Bart Nnaji who really knew what he was doing. However you are often times biased in your analysis. You began by rubbishing what Lagos State government is doing to then harp on about how great GEJ is doing. Fashola's work is very commendable and the power sector reform that GEJ is implementing started from OBJ, so I think they all deserve credit and not just GEJ |

taharqa: GEJ is right about now in Kogi to commission a 456MW Geregu II Power Plant which he built from scratch in about 3 years, part of 10 new Power Plants already built (a few almost completing) which wud provide a total of about 5000MW within d same period- this is apart d many Substations and thousands of kms of Transmission/Distributions Lines bn built across d nation; whilst, Fashola is commissioning very BIG Diesel Generators that wud light up only a few Govt offices and adjourning Street Lights!! And this even when d only reason Oga Fash is building these Big Generators- less than 10MW if am not mistaken- (which is a good thing by d way) is cos a certain GEJ has painstakingly undertaken the very complex job of Reforming/Liberalising d Power Market and implementing d Power Electricity Act (as acknowledged by Fashola here) as well as the fact that a large chunck of d money d LASG used in funding these mini power plants came from d CBN's #300bn Power/Aviation Fund set up by GEJ..... Oh, Yea! We know who d Action man and d Noisemaker (if there is any) wud be.... You, my frnd, are reali 'caseless'. 1- The NIPP's that you're talking about (including Geregu II) were conceived and started by the Obasanjo administration. It was stopped during Yar'adua's time over investigations into their cost. 2- Lagos State government are building Independent Power Plants that run on GAS o not DIESEL. If all of Lagos State sites are placed in clusters and powered by gas turbines, the state government's energy cost will be greatly reduced which means a reduction in the cost of governance in Lagos. 3- The Electric Power Sector Reform Act was signed into law by OBJ in 2005. This is the law that allowed for the privatisation of NEPA/PHCN and this law also allows for off-grid power generation and distribution. SO it is this law that allows Lagos state to build their power plants and come off grid. 4- While waiting for the discos, gencos and the transmission company of nigeria to improve our generation capacity, does it not make sense to set up gas turbines of between 1MW - 30MW for housing estates, industrial sites, government clusters etc? 5 Likes |

It's mere speculation and the title is misleading. Amechi and any other aggrieved PDPers will wait until the very last minute to decamp, IF they decamp and that's a very big if. But remember Atiku, he stayed in PDP a long time during OBJs onslaught before he jumped ship to AC or "alliance for corruption" as Baba so eloquently put it |

There's a huge amount of investment needed especially here in Lagos, to get to the stage we need to. Only time will tell whether these consortiums are able to raise that investment as they are. I'm sure if they list they'll be able to raise some good equity which is what they need. |

Most of these loans were given to captive clients where the electricity that will be produced will not go to the National Grid. Akute/Lagos State is for Lagos State government sites, Dangote's is for his factories, same with Nestle etc. In order for the masses to feel an improvement, we'll have to wait some time. Here's why: 1- The gencos and discos that were privatized were bought over by people using debt rather than their equity. Basically these consortiums took huge loans to pay for these privatized assets. 2- This means that before they can raise funding for upgrade and expansion, they'll need to liquidate the loans they took to buy the assets. We should be looking at 4 to 8 years before that happens. What should happen is the consortium buy the asset with their own equity, then they can take loans for development against the asset they have bought. So that upgrading can start as soon as they take over. Or government should have offered them a long payment plan. |
