Please read. *RED ALERT FOR STRUCTURAL ENGINEERS AS MARKETERS IMPOSE IMPROPER DIAMETER ON USERS OF REINFORCING STEEL* The looming danger is the ignorance in the procurement of this structural item without due dilligence. When, 12mm @ 92pcs is requested to be supplied, what you get is, 10mm @ 92pcs for the price of a ton. If you are lucky to detect, you might be able to obtain a fictitious discount for a bedraggled deal. Similarly, for 10mm @ 133 pcs you get supplied 8mm @ 133 pcs. The danger here for the Structural Engineer is that calculation outputs are usually specified, and if what is supplied is to be used, a reappraisal of the supplied diameter becomes inevitable. *The fraud by some manufacturers is that 12mm inscription will be seen on the supplied 10mm, same goes for other diameters.* Arising from this fraudulent practise have resulted in 14mm supplied for 16mm and 22mm supplied for 25mm.e.t.c. These bars in equal numbers don't have the same strength. Simply put, For those Clients that bridge the protocol of obtaining adroit Professionals, the integrity of the structural strength of the building may be compromised. it is only wise to request for the designed diameter and quantities, however, this is only visible for Corporate entities and discerning Clients. Funny , most Clients that choose to procure reinforcing steel at their own peril don't accept fluctuations. It is possible that exchange rates is taking it's toll on this item. But building collapse resulting from the mismanagement of manufactured reinforcing Steel supplied to construction site will be a disaster waiting to happen. The Structural Engineer is advised to carry out due diligence on the reinforcing Steel to be used on the site *with respect to designed and supplied*, and where possible recommend laboratory tensile strength test. To Him who does what no man can do , I give praise. This year amid all the pandemic and chaos God kept us. He made ways that no man can make. He sustained us and bless us in ways we cannot imagine This is my best year so far. It's been blessings upon blessings. Thank you Jesus. Awesome wonders. |
Ok, but the problem i'm having with a biodigester is that it must protrude to the surface making it obvious that it is there. Normal septic tank can be made to be so flat and at the same level with the entire floor you won't even notice it is there, I don't know if same is possible with biodigester. [/quote] |
n3xt:Does this have to be on the ground surface? |

neduboo:You need to carryout a soil test. The result from the soil test will determine the appropriate foundation type and even the depth to firm soil. It is very wrong to engage a welder in this type of construction. Get a structural engineer involved. The rebars you need will be calculated from the structural drawings. A swamp needs professionals. Pls do the needful. |
I understand why people have vowed not to invest in Nigeria because of its numerous uncertainties but I still admire those that brave the uncertainties, wriggle their way through the bad system and invest in the country. |
n3xt:Beautiful. |
Gigaset:What's the bearing capacity of the soil from the soil test report and what type of structure do u intend to build on it. Piling is expensive and should be done by experts especially if needed in a built up area. Wish you well. |
Essquare:The difference is the appearance and the strength of the cast concrete. Plank gives a rough cast with honeycombs due to the space between them caused by the segregation of the aggregates during casting and vibration. But when ply wood is pinned on the planks ,it gives a better finish and strength just like when you use a marine board. Marine board because of it's smooth edge and surface has little space between them hence the cement slurry is able to bind the aggregates together, keep them in place and this increases the strength of the cast concrete and gives a fine& smooth finish. Marine boards are reusable just like the planks but must be kept free from water. |
Further to my training on marine board as framing wood, what width should I cut it down to? Thanks.[/quote It depends on the width of what you want to use it for, either beam , column or slab. |
Too bad. This shows they dont feel our pains but they take our gains. |
ladyteeks:Can you request for detailed breakdown of each item of the labour work. |
Chekitaut:Noted |
jennann:The bolded is not true unless the 12mm is local while the 10mm is the imported brand. For your slab please use 12mm as against your supervisor suggestion of 10mm bars. |
One4me:The issues here is that everyone has become a jack of all trades but this shouldn't be. We all have our clear and distinct roles to play on a project , which makes us experts in what we do. Every party is vital to the successful completion of a project but we overlook them because of their fee. However the construction of any structure should be about quality, cost and time but most times we tend to value cost saving over quality control . |
KolaShangOne:Ok.Thanks |
