I dislike all these protracted Rooney arguments but it is a truth universally acknowledged that Rooney has never mastered the art of the WEIGHTED GROUND PASS.

elampiro: Afrodoc what makes Rooney short passes poor? You have also bought into that fallacy? Rooney gets lots of assists from short passes. His short passes makes it possible for Valencia and Welbeck to come one vs one with the goalkeeper many times. When we had a good run last season during Christmas, his short passes bailed us out when he played the number 10 but decided to drop very deep. We may have one or few off matches. RVP, Mata, Kagawa, Chicha have similar problems. But Rooney is more adventurous with his passes, whether short or long.

rooney is the only problem we have. if we have a goal machine in the attack, we would have won the game against swansea. rooney had 6 attempts at goal, only one went in.

compare that to sturridge today, sterling, ramsey, etc? how many chances should a striker like rooney get to score a hatrick? 21?

I would score Elampiro 3/10 and you 4/10 in this issue. It detracts from the more serious problems in the team, not like NL has any say in how the club is run though.
However if the board and management view the problem like either of you then all United fans are in trouble. Rooney is not the main cause of all United's troubles neither is he the panacea

On their Rooney debate i have always said they are both wrong. Rooney is not as good as Elampiro thinks and he is not as bad as Coogar makes him out to be. It is not a lie that Rooney's first touch is poor for a player of his status and his short passing is at times horrible. The final nail in Rooney's coffin is the fact that Rooney peaked at 20yrs of age.
HOWEVER Rooney is not the origin of ALL PROBLEMS in this team and there are many other problems and problem players in this team, just that all of us here have different opinions as to who those players are.
If Elampiro needs support all he needs to do is ask nicely,he should just not count on me in any Valencia argument

Practically everybody here has disagreed with Coogar at one point or the other. There is only one regular here who agrees with everything Coogar says, so you are very mistaken in your view that people just blindly follow opinions here.
The only difference is you appear to take the football debates too personal maybe because you are the only one here who equals Coogar in NL stamina and determination to win an argument.

I am afraid we wasted about 100 million pounds in the transfer market because i doubt if any of Fellaini,Mata or even Herrera will be helpful to us going forward.
Personally i never rated any of them really highly, cos they (especially mata and fellaini) have serious shortcomings. Only the tactical acumen and attention to detail of Van Gaal can save us this season, if not na another long season.

My advice to Van Gaal would be drop this 3412 system,work hard on the 4231 in training and go and buy players that can make it work.
I dont care who gets benched,be it Rooney,Van Persie,Mata or Herrera. Van Gaal's reputation is at stake

That salary argument is the most spurious one yet. Is he the only getting paid? There are so many other overpaid players in the squad and some of them are performing much worse than Rooney even if u factor in pay.

Ashley Young gets 118k per week and he is the 4 highest paid player in the team. Apart from worthless preseason games has he delivered on that salary? Mata is 3rd highest paid at 130k and has so far not convinced at all.

Llallana was on 35k in Southampton, Raheem Sterling is on 30K at Liverpool, Thomas Muller is on 85K, Pedro in Barcelona is on 60k, Iniesta is on 130K, Coutinho is on 35k at Liverpoool.

If we want to castigate only Rooney why can't Ashley Young at 118k per week give us similar play to Raheem Sterling or Pedro who are getting just a fraction of his bloated salary?

Today is one the reason I don't feel Januzaj will become a no 10 at least for a good while. He doesn't look up, particularly when he is the final 3rd of the pitch. A true number 10 pays a little more attention to his environment and teammates, even if they are very individualistic.
