Petitioner asks court to nullify former Senate President’s election http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/09/petitioner-asks-court-to-nullify-former-senate-presidents-election/ Makurdi – The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 28 senatorial election for Benue South, Mr Daniel Onjeh, has asked the Justice Mosumola Dipeolu-led National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Makurdi to nullify the election and order a fresh election. Onjeh said this on Thursday during the adoption of the final addresses of all the parties in his petition challenging the election of Sen. David Mark of the PDP in the election. He said that the result forms produced by INEC did not reflect the actual votes cast during the senatorial election in the zone. The petitioner tendered several relevant documents, including his written statement, on oath and certified true copies of result sheets from the nine LGAs to prove his case. In his submission, counsel to Onjeh, Mr Tunji Oso, alleged that Mark was prophetically declared the winner by INEC while collation of results were still ongoing in seven local government areas of the zone on March 29. Oso further alleged that there was no evidence of holding of election or collation in 107 polling units across the senatorial zone as form EC8A (1) for the said polling units were not produced by INEC. He submitted that the results of seven local government areas, Agatu, Obi, Okpokwu, APA, Ado, Ogbadibo and Oju which were proved to be collated on March 29 could not be part of the votes upon which Mark was returned since he was declared winner on March 28. He urged the tribunal to expunge the votes of the identified local government areas from the total votes of parties where Mark supposedly polled 99,538 votes while Onjeh polled 50,115. Oso pointed out that votes were only validly collated in Ohimini and Otukpo local government areas where Onjeh polled a total number of 16,033 votes while Mark polled a total of 27,137 votes. The Petitioner’s counsel insisted that more than half of the votes cast and more than half of the polling units where elections were supposed to have been held were vitiated and invalidated. He, therefore, urged the tribunal to nullify the election and order for fresh poll. Oso noted that it was a settled law that where more than half of total votes cast or half of total polling units is vitiated, the tribunal ought to nullify the entire election. However, counsel for Mark, Mr Kenneth Ikonne, urged the tribunal to dismiss the petition, arguing that all the allegations in the petition were criminal in nature and the onus rested on the petitioner to prove it. Ikonne said the petitioner alleged irregularities, malpractices, allocation of votes, multiplication of figures, over-voting, over accreditation, concoction of results but failed to prove his case. Counsel for PDP, Mr Chris Alechenu, aligned himself with the submissions of Ikonne and also urged the tribunal to dismiss the petition. The Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Mosumola Dipeolu, commended the parties in the matter and informed them that judgment date would be communicated to them through the tribunal Secretariat.(NAN) http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/09/petitioner-asks-court-to-nullify-former-senate-presidents-election/ |
Flets:The local content is a major achievement of the GEJ era that I cannot fault. It is of immense benefit to the country. |
disloman:It is you that actually don't have knowledge about this. Why not make your findings before spewing trash. This one you are screaming stop lying portrays you as an unintelligent person. An intelligent person when confronted with facts will counter it wt valid points. Moreso when even given a similar case study. How come u fail to pick where I said an electric current can only shock when it flows from a body to the earth. Exercise your brain Kid. |
disloman:That u don't have knowledge of something does not mean u should be accusing another person of lying. I have done a lesser one myself as demonstration during my undergraduate days to show that electric current can only run through a person that is earthed. I placed a blanket on a plastic chair, I then stood on the blanket on the plastic chair and touched a live wire. I didn't feel any electric shock despite the current in me. I asked my spectators to use a tester on my body and the tester showed light, even though I didn't feel any electric shock. What made this happen? It is simply because I was not connected to the earth, a person feels electric shock just becos the current flows through the body to the ground. When the connection to the ground is taken a way and the current is not extremely high to the point of arcing, the person will not feel an electric shock. Although I have never tried that of the mains homes and shops connects to. But as I mentioned earlier, I have seen an electrician that touched it with his bare hands and there was light, and he was not electrocuted. You can make your independent findings about this, and the come back and apologise to me. Based on my background I didn't attribute what the electrician did to superstition or funny assertions that he held his breath. It was simply because he was well disconnected from the earth. He was midair resting on a perfect non-conductor. |
disloman:I have seen an electrician touch a high tension wire with current flowing through it with my own eyes and he was not electrocuted. |
TonyeBarcanista:Typical PDP supporter, putting a little bit of ethnic sentiments in your response to garner support from the tribalists. Typical Barcanista, already making wild allegations in write-up, but now trying to somewhat portray a balanced opinion in the closing to fool superficial readers. I have been wondering if it was actually you that was back, but your pathetic writing patterns of mixing half truths, making wild baseless allegations and then asking rhetorical question to seem unpartisan has convinced me you are one. In some instances to justify your highly biased opinion, u put some references containing only part of the entire picture. Chai, keep wallowing in the exhortation of 'only' your gullible party members. Your writings show u intend to do only one thing, sway opinions in any way possible. You already have the xters of the Nigerian politicians our generation will do away with. A typical political jobber. If you have a political ambition which I guess is your ultimate aim, you have to stick to justice and equity and mother nature will favour u at the right time. But trying to play on the intelligence of people will not get u anywhere. Back to d matter, it is a silent truth that the bridge is too expensive and skewed to the detriment of the Country in the way the contract and concession was packaged. Any patriotic citizen will support the review being carried out by PMB on the concession. And why should it be the second major bridge that connects the SE to the rest of the country that should be tolled?? Is any other major highway tolled in the country?? Are we saying given the strategic and economic potential of the SE, the FGN under Jona cannot afford to build d bridge for the total amount of 117 billion?? Have u even tried to think it out, that the excess money on the subsidy fraud of 2012 can easily pay off this bridge?? I'm sure if it is PMB that plans to build an entry bridge into the SE with the mindset of tolling it, the whole news media will be bubbling with criticisms upon criticisms on why PMB is doing that out of hatred and wanting to hold d SE region down, and that this is non-existent in any other part of the country. But what do we have from u guys as regards this project, silence, silence and even unreasonable support for it. May God open your eyes. |
There was no election in Rivers. Let everyone go and prepare for a fresh election. |
Well, bigotry and chronic political partisanship seems to be a better motivator than sound reasoning. No matter the points and valid reasons brought forward, they will never listen, they will never agree. I'm afraid because they are also kind of passing this across to some hardcore PMB supporters thru their hate of him. Since they have decided not to see reasons, they constantly attack and vomit virtuperations on PMB based on false info, silly info, half-truths and real truths in some instances. Supporters of PMB wants to have his back, and provide him with the moral support to succeed, and are also gradually being radicalised supporters of PMB who doesn't want to see any mistake done by him. This negative chain may continue this way. Only God can break Nigeria from this vicious cycle. |
Why is Wike releasing press statements about a case in court? This man is just too crude. Who does he think he is, declaring that a witness is lying. This is highly extrajudicial and he should be called to order. The people that even wrote the release for him are as dumb as he is, trying to use a fact-finding mission embarked upon by the INEC Commissioners sent by Jega during the presidential election to justify a gubernatorial election conducted a week after. Just go to Court and defend yourself. Simple. |
emperorchedda:Funny enough, the person that said it is even an Igbo man. Osita Ikechukwu. |
Vondata:Do u guys read the story fully at all? The person that made that statement against Okorocha is an Igbo man! Thisday is just trying to embarrass APC, by naming APC as the source of the outburst instead of naming Ikechukwu Osita. |
Cutehector:I'm a core PMB supporter, but sincerely I'm tired of the suspense. He should just name his cabinet and let the ball start rolling. |
Rivers poll: No election in Obia-Akpor Federal Constituency, say APC witnesses - The All Progressives Congress, APC, witnesses at the Rivers National Assembly and State Legislative Election Tribunal in Abuja have said that there was no election in Obia-Akpor Federal Constituency on March 28. They made the allegation when they testified at the continuation of hearing at the tribunal on Thursday. Mr. Anthony Chindu of APC, who contested National Assembly election in the constituency petitioned Rep. Kingsley Ogundu of PDP, the winner of the election. Chindu had earlier in his petition told the tribunal that there was no election in the constituency. The witnesses were Nwosu Michael, Alhaji Ali Bilyamin, Mathew Chike, Chukwuma Akane and Stanley Odum. At the resume hearing, Odum an APC party agent in ward 13, unit 13, told the tribunal that INEC provided all the electoral materials in the unit, aside result sheet. Odum added that though the electorate and all party agents requested for the result sheet, they were not given. He said, “no result sheet, no election till everybody left around 6:30 p.m. Another witness, Michael, a party agent in ward 12, unit 18, also confirmed that there no election in the area. “I was there when INEC arrived with electoral materials, which excluded result sheet, they promised to bring the result sheet before accreditation but failed to bring it till evening,’’ he said. He said he was shocked when Kingsley Ogundu of PDP was announced as the winner of an election that didn’t hold. All witnesses presented to the tribunal by their Counsel, Mr B.E.I. Nwafor (SAN), were put on oath before the resume hearing of the case. All the witnesses also told the tribunal they had submitted written complaints to the police in the various polling units in the constituency. They added that they reported their observation to the chairman of the APC in the area. Justice A. M Pindiga, the Chairman of the tribunal, adjourned the case till Sept. 11, for continuation. The PDP and their host of senseless supporters really messed up in that Rivers election. The PDP would have still won that election albeit by a lesser margin. But APC would have gotten some State Assembly seats including at the minimum 1 Senate and House of Rep seat. But in their attepmt to embarrass Amaechi, massage their own ego and cover up the fraud of the presidential election they engaged in what can be described as day light election robbery! This was also replicated in Akwa-Ibom and partially in Delta. What I find difficult to understand is how sane human beings and even educated folks will be supporting this fraud. Some blockheads are even already threatening fire and brimstone if the judgement of the tribunal did not go their way. It is this kind of threat that made the tribunal agree to relocate to Abj to ensure their safety. Let them continue threatening the tribunal, they are indirectly giving the tribunal more evidence on how the election actually was. If the PDP is so sure of wining Rivers 10 times over if rerun is carried out, then they have nothing to fear for, they have nothing to shout for, they have no reason to be soliciting public sentiments and they definitely have no reason for their media rantings. |
IbnSultaan:Amen. |
And the people will still gullibly vote the PDP that has done nothing save impoverish the people of Bayelsa the more. The irony of life. Imagine this thieving Alamesiegha trying to use tribal sentiments to campaign. This is the hallmark of the PDP. When they have nothing to show, when they have no projects to use as evidence that they performed, that is when they will start appealing to tribal sentiments. Now, this thieving Alamesiegha has declared that the PDP is the Ijaw party, and he tried to justify himself that it is so because Jonathan emerged as president. Why can't he brandish all the achievements of the PDP to the Ijaw people instead of the self achievement and enrichment of the Jonathans and their cronnies. How has Jonathan as president affected the general ijaw people save some specific individuals? How has the presidency of Jonathan significantly reduced the environmental pollution of Bayelsa state and indeed the Niger Delta. How has the presidency of Jonathan brought more developmental projects to the Bayelsans? How has the presidency of Jonathan improved the social-economics of Bayelsa state. How has the presidency of Jonathan ensured that the 'settlement' released by oil companies is used to build projects where everyone will benefit from and not just for the community leaders to pocket? How has the presidency of Jonathan blocked all the loopholes where the public funds of the Bayelsans are been diverted to personal pockets as was the case during the administration of Alamesiegha? Alamesiegha that is supposed to be stoned by the people for stealing their commonwealth and disgracing them in his attempt to evade the law is coming out to campaign for somebody. Chai, Nigerians don suffer. If it was in a more civilised society, that candidate would have automatically lost the election. But this is Nigeria, where tribal sentiments is more powerful than critical reasoning. I wish them well. |
light004:Your silence is fake. You already made insinuations and still talking about silence. |
tym92:You too! |

Femi Aribisala lol The hate-filled old man. The Wailers Grand patron and Fellow of the Chronic Wailing Wailers Association of Nigeria. ![]() It is no longer islamization right? It is now witchcraft. When are u guys going to get over this defeat?? Some of u people will die of beef and hatred before 2019 as you lots are going. Before the election, this Aribi-write-trash was screaming about islamization, now see the nonsense a supposed intellect is writing. When are u guys going to finally see that Buhari has no special agenda save to build a Nigeria we can all be proud of. That was his plan 30 yrs ago, but he was cut short by evil men that didn't want Nigeria to progress. The rot that followed his exit clearly vindicated his approach which a lot of people condemned then. Fate has smiled on Nigeria once again as the simple man who is passionate about just setting things in the proper perspective is back 30 yrs after he was sent packing. And some mofos think we'd fold our arms and let them frustrate him again?? The millions who voted him and the millions of his supporters that didn't even vote are ready to give him the necessary support he needs to fix this country. Wailers can continue wailing and coming out with preposterous conjectures daily. We'll always be there to counter u guys. For your information, as we are the majority that voted for him, we are also the majority in the background. Nigeria and PMB must succeed! A lot of u myopic and senseless lots has been chanting the opposite even on this forum. But your evil pronouncements will not stand in Jesus name. And neither shall it come to past. Nigeria and PMB will succeed!! |
God will definitely help Nigeria through PMB. Africa is unfortunately being led by a host of greedy and selfish people. So sad to see Africa struggling with extreme poverty, diseases and civil wars. Here in Nigeria where we are still having some relative peace, some mofos want to plunge us into another senseless civil war. Instead of every Nigerian to join hands and support PMB; tribal, religious and extreme political partisanship has blinded a lot of people to the extent they are wishing the man failure. Forgetting that a success by Buhari will be a success for all Nigerians. Reading this even gave me a sense of pride that Nigeria was not counted among those nations mentioned. Not that I seek the approval of other nations, but sincere unbiased assessment from outside sources can still be relied on for elements of accuracy. |
anwo247:Mike Mbama Okiro chaired the meeting that discharged the guy of all wrong doings and retired him, another Ikechukwu made the announcement, yet Wailers are already blaming PMB. Has Mike Mbama Okiro come out to tell you he was acting on orders from PMB? If PMB fires the Okiro guy now and put another more competent person there, they will still have something to say. That he is trying to fulfil an agenda. All you mofos, how come none of u is criticising the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr Mike Mbama Okiro?? Who was the chairman of the meeting. This man needs to be fired, how can someone complicit in the escape of a terrorist be retired with benefits? PMB needs to investigate this. |
Obviously the governor must have given his approval to the operation. One point that is amazing me that people are not talking about is the fact that Akpabio is still using the government house after 3 months of handing over and the new governor is operating from elsewhere. Maybe the new governor doesn't know how to politely tell Akpabio to vacate the govt house grounds hence, the covert support for this operation. With the mindset that Akpabio will have no choice than to move after the public searchlight is on them. Akpabio residing even if it is in the presidential lodge within the govt house is not proper. He won't allow the governor to have a full control, moreso since he was the former Boss of the governor. If it was Tinubu still living illegally in the presidential lodge of the Lag government house after handling over to Fashola then, people no go allo1 us hear word, newspaper headlines would have been screaming it daily. The present Akwa Ibom governor must be bold and take charge. Two captains cannot be in charge of the state government house. |
allcomage:There are legitimate ways a business person can transfer cash abroad for legitimate business. It is either the owner of this cash is a looter or engaging in a business restricted by the the Federal government of Nigeria. |
omogin:As if u voted for him before ![]() |
saintandsinnerz:Trash. A lot of people will not read that because of the poor formatting. Formatting write-ups is part of good writing. From the nonsense you wrote above, I can see that both of you are two sides of a coin. I think u have an eye issue. Did u see anything PDP/APC in my response?? |
Captainswag225:Nigeria has better team cohesion. All the basketball stats on Fiba website points to a win by Nigeria. All of them. 3 points, fast breaks, steals, rebounds, etc. Visit the site to check them, you'll be impressed. Angola just had historical advantage on their side. And this advantage usually confers more confidence on d court. |

nationwide1:You are speaking from both sides of the mouth. Earlier, u said PYO was forced on him. Making it seem as if PMB has no role to play in his selection which is totally false and ludicrous. You are trying to be smart by not crediting the choice of a VP to the person who had the authority to do the ratification. Is tht not ironical? You agreed the VP was a good choice, but insist that it was not PMB's credit to have such a sound choice. To whose credit then? Tinubu?? This is laughable. All the running mates PMB has been selecting were all good choices. Buhari is intelligent. He picks very good people to work with him. His choice of media assistants were superb. His choice of service chiefs were sound. His choice of NNPC head was bull's eye! His choice of FIRS Boss is beautiful. His new choice for Customs is also very sound judging from his antecedents. So likewise his choice for SFG considering the prevailing circumstances. My opinion has been tendered, I don't give a hoot if it makes u sick. PMB doesn't either. You have a right to your opinion as well. You are disappointed in me?? Wow, you honour me. Didn't know u had regards for me before. If u don't care who is appointed so far they deliver as u said, then why are u again expressing the North/South sentiments in your post?? You said you don't care, again u re saying I should compare Northerners/southerners appointed. You are contradicting yourself! If you don't care, then that is it. Don't care about region, tackle the options based on the suitability of the appointees. |
